Wanted to explain the reasons for changing Burn...

It became apparent that Burn was the trump power...with it, a Tanker needed to do nothing else. He could lay down a Burn patch and Taunt foes in and out of it. The damage was so great that the Burn patch itself would do the defeating; the Tanker only needed to hit Taunt.

[/ QUOTE ]Yeah that wasn't good.
    [ QUOTE ]
The question has come up - "what's the point of Burn now?" Well, it still offers Immobilization defense (we're actually going to increase that duration).

[/ QUOTE ]But we can get that more reliably from combat jumping, especially since we need Acrobatics for knockback protection.
    [ QUOTE ]

And Burn does do a lot of damage. Taunt alone might not bring mobs into Burn continually, but stunning, holding, immobilizing mobs in Burn is just plain devastating.

[/ QUOTE ]That's a big but, and the stunning one isn't even true. Area holds and roots are fairly rare, and with the new AoE limits there's a good chance not everything will be locked down.

Burn just makes you lose too much aggro, and then the spawn is heavily spread out, making it nearly impossible to regain aggro.
  2. Don't forget to include this fact in the patch notes, so people will know what's going on.

It might even be a good idea to tag a note onto the in game description for a while. At least until this becomes common knowledge.
  3. [ QUOTE ]
Just a note.. Hurdle does actually increase forward speed, equal to swift at an unenhanced level.. I think after that, each jump enhancement adds an equally low amount of forward and verticle motion...

    cheers!

[/ QUOTE ]Hurdle+Combat Jumping is almost its own travel power. It's faster than low level Fly in a lot of situations. It's also probably the least safe method of travel.
  4. All other SOs are either 20% or 33%. I couldn't imagine flight getting it's own special number. In that case they are probably 20%, but that does suck. They need to be 33%.

  5. Are you sure flight SOs are only worth 15%? I've never heard that number before.

You are just too slow keeping up with the party unless you take Swift (and let's face it, everyone takes Fitness).

    [/ QUOTE ]
This is the same fallacy as "everyone takes Hasten." NOT everyone takes Stamina. NOT everyone takes Hasten. Get that into your cranium. Just because YOU get a power for everyone one of your heroes does NOT mean that EVERYone does. I have yet to get Stamina for any of my heroes. Altho, one, out of the 20+ I have, will be getting it...eventually.

[/ QUOTE ]Still, a majority of people you team with do have stamina. Judging by the people I team with, at least 50% of the player base gets stamina by the low 20s. In the high 20s when respec becomes available and there are a few more powers available, even more people have stamina.

Granted this is only a sampling of people I have teamed with, but I don't know why strict soloers wouldn't take the same power choices as the people I team with.
  7. [ QUOTE ]
Concept, there are those of us out there that don't choose powers based on min/max equations. I don't mean to sound harsh but it seems rather unfair to make decisions about the game and powers based on how min/maxers and powergamers are going to react.

[/ QUOTE ]Not really. In fact arguments of balance aren't for the min/maxers. A min/maxer will simply take the best choice and be happy with it being the best. Balance is important for those people who don't min/max, so they can be close to as powerful as their min/maxing brethern, without having to worry about all of the math.

In fact, if you want to get a good idea of what is balanced and what is not, min/maxers are the perfect place to look. They're like the canaries of this game, finding what's unbalanced long before the casual player gets around to it.

I'd like to see a scrapper with superspeed and hurdle in the pvp arena vs. a blaster with hover and fly before I fully agree that fly is the weakest travel power.

[/ QUOTE ]If the scrapper had fly and the blaster had super speed, who do you think would win?
  9. The problem with fly is that it has a few small problems that add up.

Fly is slow. Fly is the slowest of the 4 travel powers in pure speed. Someone has to be slowest. Being able to move in a straight line does make some difference, but vertical obstacles are rarely much of an impediment.

Fly is costly. Fly is the second most costly power after teleport. The equivalent of a single origin endurance reducer makes fly break even endurance-wise, but you can't run any other toggles. Also Stamina alone makes unslotted fly break even if no other toggles are used.

Fly is not combat friendly. The accuracy penalty on fly is HUGE. I tend to go overboard on accuracy for my characters and I still can't hit regularly while using flight. Even if fly had no accuracy penalty, the endurance drain of both flying and using the toggle ensures I couldn't stay in flight to fight.

I hate to point out a seemingly obvious thing, (and if this is already mentioned I apologize, I didn't read the whole thread) but...

why not just allow flight and SS to stack? I mean...if we're gonna go through the hassle and sacrifice of taking both SS and Fly, why not let them stack so that you fly faster?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Shush, you. That would make sense. Can't have that.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I've actually been saying that since beta, but I never miss an opportunity to bring it up again.

[/ QUOTE ]The answer is because you could take Super Speed and Hover and use Hover at flight speed.

    [ QUOTE ]
If flyspeed had the same max as runspeed, why would anyone ever take superspeed?

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Hasten.

[/ QUOTE ]People keep saying this. I hope they realize they are more likely to get Hasten nerfed than Fly buffed.

Personally, I don't mind Hasten getting nerfed, but I know a lot of people who would be really upset about that.
  12. [ QUOTE ]
How is it slotted? I have a friend with an electric/energy blaster who drains alot of endurance, and is actually quite an effective blaster.

[/ QUOTE ]I wonder if Power Boost boosts endurance drain? I've never had it, but from it's description it sounds like buildup for secondary effects. It could probably be made perma.
