However, that is NOT the only place that lag comes from. Your computer's RAM and video card can be big factors in what you're seeing, too. As well as your CPU and other basic components. You may want to post your computer's specs over in the Tech Issues and Bugs forum, to see what they can do for you.

Also, you are on the busiest server. If you moved to a less busy server, you'd likely be able to play with few problems, if any at all.
My question isn't about getting more bandwidth. I solved that problem. I'm asking this question, how much bandwidth does the CoH client require to provide a fluid user experience? I've heard between 512k-1MB. I need a technical answer for this. I'm not looking for opinions. I need a developer response.

Freedom is one of the busier servers; I'd expect more lag there. GR has really increased the number of people on and I've seen Freedom red most nights.*

    2) I have never tried Fraps on CoX, so I can't comment. Never noticed it dropping my FPS in another game though. I did used to save to another hard drive, not the game one.

    3) I started off with this thread. A quick glance at post one here should enable you to decide whether your card is low/med/good/whoa level.

Also this thread and this thread give good explanations of each setting with pictures.

I can give you a list of my settings but if your card is much better/worse then it won't really help you.

    4) 50 people is max per zone. You will get lag on Raids; Hami or Mothership. You just WILL. Everyone can try and minimize it by using costumes without moving parts, lowering their graphics settings to minimum (and I never run with 50k particles but about 10k) but you ARE going to lag. Do what you can to minimize it and if it still isn't playable for you, you know not to join another one. First thing I do when I hit the meet point for a raid is drop my gfx settings to min. Every time.
Let me address some of your replies:

    1. When I first got CoH back in Febraury up to June, my gaming experiences were fantastic. I was so happy. I quit and came back in August and the experience has been significantly less appealing. Drops, MapServers, lag is part of every experience now. I have not changed computers. Yesterday, I had a rare moment and it was directly related to bandwidth. I started measuring it daily/hourly to attempt to troubleshoot my problem.

I have no comment at this time on 2&3.

    4. The hami raid we have had other issues I'm sure. Some were heroes and some where villains. I won't do a raid again knowing that 50 is the limit. I just don't want to come online and lose two hours wading through lag. it's just not worth. I need my time online to be gainful. Also, how do you tell other to lower there video settings? Can CoH post a sign when you enter the zone or something? The Hami raid was a zoo just trying to recruit while everyone is asking me when are we going to start. I would have never done if I had read this comment earlier. I'll stick to 8 person missions for now.
  4. This weekend I tried to play CoH/CoV nonstop. My gaming experiences have been poor thanks to number of reasons. I need to address these so my experience will be better in the future. Any solutions to any of these problems:

    1. How much bandwidth is actually required to make CoH run correctly? For the past few weeks my game play has been laggy. Sunday, I was in SharkIsle on Freedom and was Mapserver-ed to hell. Repetitive Deja Vu is a polite way of saying it. Monday, I had 2MBPS of bandwidth and my game play was awesome.

    2. Video recording. I've tried several solutions to record my fun. I tried Xfire, while a nice product that's easy to use(30-50 FPS), it reduced my system performance noticeably during the game. I finally had to turned it off to have a fluid experience. Does the Coh video recording or Fraps do recording without noticeable system degradation? How many frames can I record per second without noticeable degradation, 5 or 10 FPS maybe?

    3. Video Setting, can I get a recommendation on what settings I can turn down in the options menu to enhance the fluidness of the game play. I tried to turned down to low water reflections but it didn't seem to do anything. I even turned them off for awhile so the water was black when I played. There are so many settings in the options menu.

    4. I attempted a Hami Raid Sunday night in the Abyss and has so many people in the zone that the zone was nothing but lag. We aborted the raid and went to other places. I took a lot of flak from users for my decision. How many users can be in 1 zone at time? We had about 50.
  5. Is there a way for me to import my 3D character models in 3DS Max or Maya? I want to make some 3D Flash movies but don't want to start from scratch.

All I care about is level and money/inf. No system is perfect. I can buy the rest. I just want to avoid the lag. Even when you use a different build you have to start from Scratch, right?

I didn't mean to sound like I was arguing with you. I'm just unhappy right now with the game and I'm venting on you. Busy servers are good but too busy creates indirect problems like lag, disconnects, etc. I'm sure in a month everything will go back to normal but how do you build a more flexible gaming platform that can adjust to demands of game play. If a server spikes and I'm a paid user, shouldn't I be allowed to utilize the same server on another server? Also, does NCSOFT have detailed server utilization reports online? I'm curious to see what they're dealing with day to day.

Usually Freedom is actually at the bottom of the list, along with Virtue because nowadays the servers are arranged by [Last one you were on] followed by lowest to highest population.

There is currently no way to pick which server you want to use for any character, you have to explicitly transfer them there. I think the free transfers are still running though.
I'm not interested in free so much as the ability to play without problems. About the last server selected comment. I was disconnected from play on monday and saw freedom at the bottom on my return 2 minutes later. If what you say is true, then Freedom should always be top. This can't true.
  9. I know there is a transfer but I'm looking for other options. Here's my problem over the past 2 weeks. Freedom and Virtue have been fully loaded with players. I've experienced freezes, disconnects, lag, etc. I'm tired of this. I just want to be able to play. NCSOFT refuses to move the Freedom server down on the list to solve this problem. Everyone new to game choses Freedom because it's first on the list.

Is this option possible? Allow me to put my character on all servers, for a fee or not, so I can select a server based on moderate usage to play my character(s). This will allow me to play with whoever whenever I want to with the best experience.
  10. How much load does this generate on the server? If I have team of 8 can all record at the same time?
  11. I want to record some of my fun inside of CoH. I see video all over the internet with people recording gaming sessions. How can I do this?

Is this number for only Coh or all NCSOFT revenues?
  13. I'm assuming your using windows 7.

Step one: Download the intel driver you need. x64(64 bit) or x386(32 bit)

Step two: go to control panel | devices and printer| device manager

Step three: select the moniter, right click and uninstall it. Reboot the computer.

Step four: install the new driver and verify it by going back to step two.
  14. There are scare tactics by the pc mfgs. I have an emachine and had to do the same thing...but after I uninstalled the mfg driver and update to the new intel driver my coh game play was superb.
  15. This is exactly what I meant. You must uninstall the driver back to the generic windows driver then install the updated drive but download it first before uninstall.

The mfg drivers won't work. You'll need to go to intel and install their drivers. Why? because the manufactur only tests drivers to rollout the pc/laptop. New drivers they may or may not certify.

    that is correct :-)
  21. FYI, the video card graphics driver must be manually uninstalled. The new intel drivers will now overwrite. You will default to windows driver and then reinstall the intel drivers.

    I just went through this.

I would prefer a female if possible around my age or at least 35+. So if any female wants to team up with a 47 year old latino 69 month vet. I'm available at this time if you can play during my hours that is. I am in california....I play after 6pm daily af often as I can. Thanks.....Bye bye....
I'm a male and I'm 40 and I plan my gaming to avoid the kids. Check the calenders for planned events. The events are higher quality there. I'm on Freedom. My next event is over labor day. I don't trash talk. I just want to enjoy the game play.

I can't understand your comments. The initials are time zones in the US. EST(earliest), CST, MST, PST(latest by 3 hours).
