Quote:Lothic,There are plenty of reasons Caprica failed as a show.
But at least one of those reasons WASN'T that it was geared towards 15-20 year olds.
A few teenagers in a show does not automatically make that show a "teenaged" oriented show.
Disliking a show like this is fine, but at least dislike it for non-silly reasons. *shrugs*
I see your comments. I never understood or better yet took the time to understand the show. I only caught episodes here and there. In reading the post. I guess the show was about the cylons first attempts at humanism.
Also, if a show only shows "teenagers"...it's a teenaged-oriented show.
Seriously, golden girls ain't for kids. Also, I did add this in my comments
" it seemed" -
Blood_Wolffe,
I'm cracking up online. How did you get your wife to go along with this?
I love RPGs !!!!! :-)))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))) )))))))))))
Thanks for the post. -
Quote:Caprica was a joke. I see in the $1.00 bin at the store already. Just curious, what did the girl trio have to do with the story? Every time, I tuned into the show I saw them doing petty things. It seemed like the show was geared towards 15-20 year olds.http://ausiellofiles.ew.com/2010/10/...ncels-caprica/
OH, for any that didn't know, the new BSG series will be called "Blood and Chrome.". Rumors of Caprica's demise sparked up immediately after it was announced. -
Quote:Your okay, FTP still means file transfer protocol.I just repeated this on Facebook, maybe it should go here too.
(I've probably been on the net since before you were born. To the vast majority of today's netizens FTP is as alien as Gopher.) -
Quote:This was the funniest quote of the day. Amen!! I like the F2P heroes start in Galaxy City :-) and the ignore F2P "feature" request :-)If it does go F2P, all I ask is for the following.
1. That I can still pay my 15 bucks a month to get my CoX fix.
2. Everything continues on like normal otherwise for those paying the sub fee. New issues, new content, that kind of thing.
3. Make all the F2P heroes start in Galaxy City and have to purchase access to Atlas.
4. A new starter zone for Villians given the same treatment.
5. If those cannot be done, at least allow me to ignore all F2P players or at the very least tripple the size of my ignore list. -
Quote:Some problems we can't solve right now, that was the point of my post. Latency is a real issue. Going From one contintent to another over the internet creates a great distoration/delay. I keep seeing all of these people trying to get on NA servers but the EU and other countries have a better telecom infrastructure for gaming than the US. It's VANITY at work.If you think that playing with people on another continent is going to slow down your play session, I'm not about to trust your judgement when it comes to who should have the fastest connections to more local servers.
Unless you've played exclusively solo or with a select handful of people you know in real life, you've played with people on other continents and not even noticed. Of this I am sure. Not to mention that if you and a friend across the room are playing there in Maryland, both your signals are still travelling from one end of the country and back before you see what they just did on their screen.
People ask for the merger of US and EU servers, for the good of the community, not because of lack of technical knowhow. They know people on the EU servers get the short end of the stick when it comes to number of servers, number of people to team with, and potential for fun. -
Quote:First about Mcafee, that's R&D stuff I shouldn't have mentioned that. I'm sorry.No.
Your assertions make no sense and you still haven't addressed where people from Asia, Australia, and other parts of the world will play.
First off, you're apparently ignoring that people from all over the world already play on US servers. i know several people from Australia and New Zealand who play on the US servers as well as a few who live in Japan and play here. i frequently team with a bunch of other people who live outside the US that i know from in game even if i don't recall exactly where they live.
Your reply to how you can tell where spam comes from makes even less sense. In game McAfee tells you nothing about where a spammer originated. Outside the game spam can also originate almost anywhere and applications like McAfee are of limited utility in determining actual origin. A fair chunk of spam is generated by botnets, and the individual computers in the network and the controller of the botnet can be anywhere on the planet that has internet connections.
About the reason for post, I don't have the solution. I don't run a hosting business and I'm not a game developer all I care about is my ingame experience. -
Quote:Basically, the F2P is speculation. This is a business but just ask the user what they want to pay for. I see all of these companies doing everything but talking directly to the users. Niches can be profitable if the terms are well negotiated. I would be willing to pay more under the right conditions. But business is business. Change means less. Charge more and give less. This why they don't want to talk to us because we won't agree to this.Free to play is has the advantage that it allows the skeptics in, but rather than asking for a price upfront before allowing them in for an evaluation. However, this game has trial accounts already to do this.
Free to play is a gamble, in that rather than allowing access for 200 paying players, it allows 2000 hoping that 11% will pay at least $15 a month in purchases. If more than that pay, it's the obvious business choice. If less, then it's a failure.
At that point it's all about how good the game comes off to those 2000 players that they actually want to stay and pony up for stuff. ..And if it's too good, they have no incentive to pay for extra. What would CoX do? level cap 40 for non-payers? No power pools for non-payers? SF/TF's for a fee? No IO's for non-payers? One or two characters available unless you pay? The trick is that there's a fine edge between luring in players with palatable goodies for a price, and annoying the entitled new crowd by locking stuff away that seems arbitrary.
Nevermind the PR balancing act that happens when long-time customers feel cheated after paying hundreds of dollars, some over a thousand, for the game in the past.
The even worse outcome is when people don't like your buyable content, and you're forced to either (a) restrict free stuff even further, so that the new players have to pay for stuff that was once free, or (b) go back to a subscription model, removing everything that the free player once had.
I'm not sure I see NCsoft wanting any of these options just yet, as there's a lot of uncertainty and headaches involved. The fact is, it has to bring in more cash than the subscriber+booster sales already already does, and have a low probability of actually reducing game income. The game is lower in population, but not to the point that I see the bigwigs rolling the at this time. -
Quote:Honestly, I feel like I'm about to lose all that I've invested in this game in the next 365 days. Can't you feel it?
talk to someone about adjusting your meds, this dosage is clearly no longer working.
Optimism is the delusional thinking of the young. Talk to any older person about "Confidence" Hahahahahahaha.
Have you ever heard the phrase, "A sucker is born every minute?"
Where do you think that came from? All suckers were "confident" they could win.
If you want me to be honest, I feel stupid for investing in this game. I have wasted 8 months of life. -
Quote:Why do people say things like this? "Either way, a fair bit of your recent posting seems to combine misinformation with narrowminded intolerance and provincialism."Based on your recent spate of starting threads it seems you've either belatedly caught up on what's been going on for some time, or something in your own life suddenly got you worked up.
Either way, a fair bit of your recent posting seems to combine misinformation with narrowminded intolerance and provincialism.
Is this for me or for publisher? I know what I posted. For what it's worth you can call me an idiot...that's how much I think of your opinion.
Moving along, all of us everyday are protecting what we invest in. Some do it with their cars, families, looks, jobs, kids, marriages, or whatever. Who wants to invest in something that is ending? -
The only way in CoH is through the use of the AE. They need to restrict this to level 40 or higher. In addition, you will only level, you will not understand the game. I'm have 3 50s now and now that I'm done grinding am I really having fun with the game. The extra slots for costumes, the SGs, the AE, badge hunting, mentoring, 2nd builds on each character, etc.
-
Quote:Stop the C-Store talk. No NCSOFT BUCKS. Stop this talk now. Also most F2P games offer both subscription AND F2P. If CoH did this it would basically mean that the subscribers would get given a decent chunk 'NCsoft Bucks' every month and could spend them on the optional extras (aka booster packs) that came out (normally works to the equivilent of $10 worth of 'NCsoft bucks' judging by other games) while the F2P guys would have to shell out for the booster packs with cold hard cash.
I do agree that F2P generally does bring in a usually crappy crowd though. -
Quote:Bless you, ClawsandEffect.Speaking just for myself, I don't care HOW awesome an online game is if the people I'm interacting with are rude, abusive retards. F2P tends to attract the worst kind of gamer, the ones who only play to grief other people and in general be a jacktard because they aren't paying anything to play, and a ban just means they move on to the next F2P game to behave the same way.

This comment is totally illogical. How could a network connection be faster than a local server? EU was one of the first to do broadband deregulation. Actually, the EU and Asia should have the fastest connections.
-
Quote:This is thin ground but it's a valid comment.I know I'm treading real thin ground w/this reply, but here goes...
As to seeing CoX go the F2P model? I personally don't feel the development time to implement system changes to mirror the F2P changes over there would be worth while. While a F2P player would be a glorified trial player, the additional burden on the Market, E-mail, and other background systems might make more problems than anything else. I can't see that as a good thing. It might also open up a new wave of RMT issues on Freedom and Virtue, more than anything else.
I just hope the higher ups at NCSoft look at what they have and know it's a good thing.
Thank you for the time...
What does the USER get with F2P?
What does the Dev get with F2P?
What is the value of the Lifetime Sub?
Users get less content and have to pay more with F2P
Dev get more money with less content with F2P
Why buy a lifetime sub? A lifetime sub is a manipulation. You Pay now but the future isn't guaranteed. When MMOs go F2P all who bought lifetime subs must be feeling pretty stupid right now. Why pay a dev for content you haven't rec'ved yet?
How is the developer going to give me better content on a pay as you go model if he/she couldn't deliver on the sub model? The game changes but the works is still the same...creating content!
Paragon needs to be smart about this. All people don't think the same. Some like sub, some want pay content, some want free. Leave all options open. -
I saw a post here and on Blizzard for people requesting unified play for other regions.
This sounds attractive in theory but is difficult due to a well known problem called latency. I'm bring this up not to support unification but to understand this movement.
Latency is a real issue it reduces the quality of play for everyone involved.
1. I hate having my sessions held up because your almost a day away from me.
2. When companies create regional servers, they feel there is enough business to support it. Play and support your region! Show your intelligence and purchase your regional copy. If I hear another lame excuse like " I accidentally bought a NA edition." I'm going to puke...we can see your through your lies. People are not a dumb as you think. We trained you better than this. Don't embarrass this fine community with your ineptitude.
3. Why would Koreans want to play with NA? I'm just using this as an example. There is a 12 hour difference. I'm getting up, your going to bed.
4. I get plenty of regional spam now on CoH. Why would I want global spam?
Why? Why? Why?
The comment line is now open. -
It's not crying doom. It's more like selfish concern for MY INTERESTS!
Lady Attitude, Diva Attitude, and Dynamica Attitude are my virtual children and I'm concerned about their futures :-)
Moving along, I do have concern for the state of the industry. Too many bad games will/are dilute/marginalizing the good ones. Cryptic is giving a bad name to everyone with the C-Store nonsense. Free will not solve Cryptic's problems. They seem to be avoiding the obvious...richer content. -
Quote:Healthier? Didn't Paragon just fire...I mean layoff talent? RIP BAB!!I think we may be healthier then other things so that model may not be applicable at this time.
Honestly, I feel like I'm about to lose all that I've invested in this game in the next 365 days. Can't you feel it? The purge is coming... -
I hope your not going F2P. F2P attracts the worse kinds of people. At the last Trial weekend, I played CoH with some of the rudest people I have ever played with since I've joined the game. Talk heavily about this before you do this with the community. Raise the fees or something...anything but going to F2P model. I beg you!!
-
I noticed recently that on the CoH website, the older videos are being purged. Does CoH plan to convert the older videos to MPG4? Flash is nice but the MPG4 is so much richer. The files are almost twice the size!
-
I have no clue whatsoever about "client-server" architecture :-) Why don't you share your knowledge on the subject. I'd like to hear what you know about client server though. What tier is this "client-server" application built on? Explain to me to what the application and database servers are in use? I learned a lot of things at Harvard but absolutely nothing about Client Server. I envy guys like you who "claim" to know it all.

Quote:I noticed over the weekend, that a lot of the users on US servers are playing from other regions. All weekend long I kept meeting EU players who claimed they "bought" the US editions. I know this has to have an effect.I play on Freedom. I was getting map-server issues all weekend also. It wasn't just you. And it wasn't just me. Every team I was on had people saying the same thing. It was even difficult maintaining a full team with so many people quitting after encountering so much lag.
Since it wasn't an individual person with this problem, I suspect it was server related, and can't be fixed on your end. -
