I'm out at this point. I'm having problems with the EU and NA clients. I uninstalled to do it fresh but now I'm only getting 15-25kbps now. It will take between 60-100 hours at this rate. Good Luck tomorrow.
Before you ask me this question. I have a 4G wireless card(33mb) and 150mb FIOs FTTH but Paragon throttles the downloads. I'm dead probably through the holiday unless I can find a full copy of GR/CoH/CoV online to download elsewhere or unless my hard cd copies come in the mail before Friday. -
Quote:I'm frustrated in that I don't yet see an Incarnate Power that lets superspeedsters move like Synapse and Neuron, without Travel Power Suppression.
But, since being Incarnate means being the equal of the signature heroes/villains, then obviously that's got to come along, too.
Soon.
DASHER
Dasher, your bringing up an interesting topic here. I will be silent here. Be patient, Paragon is working hard to solve the problems of the world even as we speak :-) -
Quote:These are the basis for my questions about the Fast track.I truly hope you were joking about this.
Besides what other people have said here (that the whole idea of the "fast track" was a story plot device) could you imagine how much nerdrage would be generated amongst this player community if there was an ACTUAL fast path that only a "few of us" qualified for? The screaming and shouting on these boards about how unfair it'd be that some people could be fast tracked and others couldn't would be monumentally epic. It'd be DOOOOMMMM! times a million!
"As I was saying, the Well of Furies seems to have awakened once more. It will seek out the most powerful individuals and grant them new powers and new abilities," Ramiel declared.
"The Well has become sentient?" asked Silos.
"More like--directed," replied Ramiel.
"What are the implications?" asked Silos.
"Statesman and Lord Recluse will not be the only ones possessing Incarnate abilities. The most powerful individuals from this point forward will struggle to unlock their inner Incarnate and discover new powers. These new Incarnates have affected the Storm, but we of Ouroboros may have created a different threat through our efforts."
Comments will follow here....

Part Two: The One That Got Away
Lord Recluse laughs, shaking his head.
You've come to ask me about Incarnates? I suppose it is well known where the source of my power comes from.
What did you seek to know, Character?
I'm here to find out the path towards becoming an Incarnate.
The path? There is no one true path, Character. Well... That isn't true. There are some ways towards becoming an Incarnate. Perhaps... You would like to offer yourself as an experiment to find out just -
Lord Recluse grips his chest as his eyes go wide.
Not... you...!
Recluse's head slumps forward, turning back and forth, as if struggling against something. After a moment, he calms and looks to you.
Recluse?
Recluse is not here at the moment. You are speaking to what many call the Well of the Furies. Recluse would never tell you what he secretly knows, what he secretly dreads. He is a... disappointment, really. He craves power, but seeks to gain it in every other method save for ones connected to myself. I can see in you this desire for power, however. You will never be able to gain it through Recluse.
That is why I am speaking to you today, Character. There are many who would stand in your way towards obtaining the power found within the Well. I would move to tip the scales in your favor. Do you know of a man named Trapdoor? He was part of Lord Recluse's plans to try to replicate my power without my actual power source. He succeeded... somewhat.
Trapdoor was recently a prisoner of Arachnos, but escaped. He tracked down an item that is connected to myself, an Incarnate artifact, if you will. He is aware of its power, but his twisted source of power will not trigger the artifact.
In this section, the well overtakes Recluse(and Statesman) to show itself to us, talks about the paths to Incarnate. The Well mentions that we can gain power if we want it. Then we go to Lady Grey and she gives more details:
Part Three: Consequences
Thank you for your aid, Character. You no doubt know by now that the Honoree... that Hero 1 was an Incarnate. Did you hear the voice? The one from the Well?
Yes, I did. Can it control any Incarnate?
What I am about to tell you must come with no questions regarding how or why I have this knowledge. The Well's control is very specific, Character, for there are two paths towards the path of becoming a fully powered Incarnate. The first is the fast path, one where the user is granted unimaginable power in a large amount. This is what happened to Statesman, Recluse, and Hero 1. Those who travel down this path develop a very close link to the Well very quickly. This is why the Well is able to control them.
The fate of those who travel down this path is one of constant servitude. Of the three, only Recluse and Statesman were truly aware of this. There is always the risk that the Well will seek to control them; this risk is increased when they try to increase their own power. In a sense, their freedom is confined. If they do not seek more power than what they've been given, they have a chance of fighting the Well's control. To seek more power from the Well itself... it would risk them seeing an end to their own selves.
This is why Statesman has always been fearful of trying to seek out more power, both for himself and others. Recluse, in all of his bids for power, has been trying to seek a way to destroy this link and still maintain his power. While Statesman remains in his place with the Well, Recluse seeks to defy it, to destroy it and earn his freedom.
You said there were two paths. What is the other?
The other is a slower path, gradually gaining more and more power from the Well. This is one that some have begun, but many of these people are not widely known. This path obviously takes much longer than the other, but those who follow this path have no risk of being controlled by the Well. The link of the Well to the person is not as strong as the previous path, meaning that one could tap into the limitless power of the Well without fear of being consumed by it.
However... there are still risks, even with this, but that is simply human nature. Once one gets a taste of the power of the Well, it may become increasingly difficult to resist the urge to try to gain more and more power as quickly as possible. To do this, however, would seal your fate to that of the Well's. This slower path is one that will ensure your freedom and the possibility of unending power, if you can resist its calling to let yourself be consumed by it.
Interesting... is there anything else?
Life's not Fair, Lothic...I want the option for the fast track!! :-) But this would definitely add a new dimension to the play, yes? I mean the power could last for a season or something, right? Would that be fairer, Lothic? What Agenda could the Well of Furies have? Could we get WFTFS(Well of Furies TaskForces) for those that choose/get the fast track? -
This question is nagging me. I'm just curious. I hope a few of us qualified at least.
-
Honestly, I think I19 will be the major update for a while. Don't get me wrong I like it. I love the new tfs but these things concern me:
1. The Shards - Who can resist these? I will push hard to get as many as I can get. Who knows how many you'll need?
I know you'll be able to sell them in the future.
2. The extra build and Respecs - This is $9,000,000 to stock this one(roughly 50,000x60=3,000,000 x stacked 3 = $9,000,000 per build. I'm considering an all recipes build just for fun.
3. The TFs. Why have us run these all again? And if you have to run these again for all of your characters, you're looking at least 6-12months.
Simply, this is a busy work release. They probably looked at the common stats and tried to find a way to get everyone to invest, invest, invest in this to hold off the big game. I just bought an EU account but with I19 I'll probably never get to play it until middle of next year.
Personally, I prefer quality over more but many feel the other way. I19 gives more, more, more...if you know what I mean :-)
Finallly, did anyone get the Fast Track to Incarnate? NcSoft/Paragon should allow a few of us to do this. Its bad that we have this cutscene about it but no one qualifies. -
Quote:Golgothen,After fleeing from there myself, I have to agree.
I'm not really grinding anything out anymore. I did for the first few days after I19 release but now it's back to running Tips in the afternoon and if anyone is trying to form a TF I'll usually try to join...or I'll log off and find something else to do.
I got rid of my second account so am down to 10 or so 50s. And as far as I'm concerned most of those can be deleted. I picked one character and uber'ed her with a bunch of purple sets and originally she was to be the only one who is an Incarnate. Now that she's got an Uncommon slotted and is sitting on a few dozen shards I'm thinking I'll go ahead and Incarnate my /rad corr just for those times when a team absolutely must have a debuffer.
So hey, don't like the grind, don't do it. Pick 1 or 2 characters and focus on those. It's really easy to get enough shards from casual play as long as you're not trying to build every Alpha path.
Golgothen
It is easy but we are trying to build every Alpha path :-) For example, if you didn't beat Trapdoor in the past few weeks. He'll be hard in now.
Don't loiter, Be rude and get your business done. Time is rude. It stops for no one!! -
Solutions that don't involve the helpdesk. Love it. I noticed your on Defiant. Would you mind telling me the ports you use so I can reconfigure my download. I installed it once and created characters on Defiant but since the patch, I can't get back without an the full download and it posting times of 60 hours to completion on my Fios FTTH(150MB), 4G wireless 33MB and on Campus. I'm pulling my hair in frustration. I need a solution.
On the NA downloads I get great speeds but for the EU client I'm getting 21-30 kbps. -
Frankly, I'm installing the software into two separate directories and it is "bleeding" into the other. This is a software design flaw. I have no problem uninstalling and reinstalling the EU and NA copy but EU copy takes 60 hours for some reason and I have ultra fast internet access.
-
Quote:1. I believe those the NA and EU updater files have different things in them. Renaming them is creating further problems. I have downloaded copy of the eu updater file now.1.)Because it's possible for a file to know what it's own name is, and act accordingly. Changing the name of the Updater file tells the updater program to change the minor areas of the client to point to different servers. 2)The point people were trying to make is that the bulk of the game (the pigg files) are exactly the same no matter which client you are using (except for test and beta of course). That means that you can save considerable time by copying those files instead of re-downloading them all over again.
2. Do you know what files I need to copy over? I have created a second directory but the updater still requests a whole new download, right? So what does the piece meal copying do? Can the updated sense what files are there and only download the missing? From what I've its not that intelligent. It will download all. -
-
I've opened a troubleticket on this. I'm having slow downloads too.
If you find a i14 AE, EU or NA copy online please tell me. All I'm finding are complete updaters that start from zero. -
I did this yesterday and it requires 3 hours. Can we start at 2pm? We lost an hour before the group refused to kill all the mobs at a key gate to the 3rd level.
Count me in. Lady Attitude. I'll have enhancements and a rebuild this time :-) -
Before you post a reply, let me say some things.
I had someone in the EU send me this file, cohupdater.eu.exe. It's 1.34MB
I put in folder called EU inside of my CoH directory. It displayed a different splash screen when I used it. I was no longer able to reach the old CoH.
Then I emailed tech support and they gave me this link, http://www.cityofheroes.com/account/...of_heroes.html
I downloaded a file called CoH_EU_Setup.exe. This is 10.5 MB that expands to 11.5MB after unzipping it.
Both request new files from the network and cannot use the NA client.
Also, I tried this CityOfHeroes.exe -project "eucoh" but this didn't work and I found out later it was unsupported. -
Quote:If you say so.Nothing, they are linked to post count.
The above solutions DO in fact work, I've renamed my cohupdater.exe to cohupdater.eu.exe then made a shortcut to the new updater on my desktop, and launched using the new shortcut, it asked me to install, I told it to install to C:\Games\CoHEU\ it then proceeded to see my CoHEU install and connected me to the EU Servers for CoH.
How is just renaming a executable redirecting it? I don't even want to address the "shortcut" issue. What kind of computer are you using? Are you on a Mac? Even so, my big issue is still the downloading, it will still pull new files, right? -
If the clients were the same, Ncsoft wouldn't have needed 2 different clients. Now think about that.
-
Just for the record. I have created 2 directories. One for CoH and One for CoH EU. The Eu installer detects the NA copy where it is and proceeds to download new files over it.
-
I'm so embarrassed. I went online today and was going to do respec on my character. The new build I used yesterday had no enhancements at all. I'm sorry.
-
Does anyone know how to redirect the NA client to EU. Please don't quote me the wiki stuff. It's not supported.
-
Can someone adjust the download speed for the EU client? The past several weeks, I have only been able to get download speeds of 21-30kbps. I cannot stay online for 60 hours!! I have tried this on my verizon fios line(150mbps), 4G wireless(33mbps), and at Harvard(OC-48).
-
About Trapdoor, did you go back to your trainer and adjust you combat level down? If you have it set to +4 you may have problems.
-
Were the plasma or fire shields useful? I probably will not be using my "team" controller next time. I was only able to watch the action because my higher powers were muted. Also, how did my doppleganger die? Do the DGs have access to our powers. Can we start a little earlier next week maybe 2pm EST?
-
Thanks for the update, Spectreblade.
-
I'm bringing my Grav/Controller, Lady Attitude. I have different builds:
1. Solo (crowd & offensive)
2. Team based Grav/Controller(only with team-based enhancements - resistance to holds, smashing, forge, rez, cauterize, etc.)
3. Flying Grav/Controller w/healing & solo.
Which one do you want? -
It wasn't a compliant just a question.
Have you decided to post a schedule for these? Can you run these during the week? Time is getting away and I really like to get these dates on my calendar.
Do you think Positron will be more than 2 hours today?
