Quote:So, it's okay if it's your first time? Riiiight. Why is it hypocrite?
Because i named a toon Raging Cajun, has red hair and a staff, it MUST be Gambit? It could not possibly be that Cajun referrers to the Cajun population in Texas and Louisiana? Trying to look like i have a French background?
This is what my Raging Cajun looks like:
Red/orange Barbaric hair, Face 1. Black Baron Jacket w/ dark goldish Magic print, dark grey shirt 2, no gloves, office belt. Dark grey Khakis, black w/ dark goldish baron print. Staff Wood w/ wrap. Now, set that up in your tailor, and tell me how much i look like Gambit. reason i have picked Energy as secondary, because most my melee toons have WP or regen, and i wanted to try something else. But you know what, if you think i look like gambit and made it so that it is Gambit, report me, they were saying they'd do that when the whole discussion started in AP with SnakeEyez, but i still have my Raging Cajun. So either they didn't report me, or CS didn't see enough ground to Gen the toon.
Anyways, like i said, if they Gen the toon, it would be my 1st Gen toon, and that is fine, at least i'm not being a repeat offender making toons who look exactly like, named as and include a bio like the character it is based off, and that is the difference.
He's Staff Fighting/Energy Aura, which are the de-factor power sets for Gambit. The only alternative would be "Energy Weapon Throwing", which doesn't exist. If he also shares the hair, and the nickname? Yeah. We know what you were doing. This isn't even a Captain Erzats or a Proxy; you made Gambit.
And considering Paragon's history with Marvel...
... You're worse than those guys, really. Why? Not because of that, but because you're chastising other people when you're guilty for the same thing.
Bloody hypocrites... -
Nope. This whole thread is based off hypocrisy. Do not defend yourself with "B-But it'll be the first time onii-san punishes meeeee!"
-
Quote:This thread is done.I don't like posting here, ever, but one of my scouts led me here. If you're so upset about people making pre-existing characters in CoH, Dark Energon, then why did you make a Mutation stalker named "Ragin' Cajun" with staff fighting/energy aura? You even used Gambit's nickname. He's not even straddling the line between homage and imitation.

Quote:I will at least comment on this;He doesn't need to "play it up" - there's also a PPD rank of "Interrogator", so to become "Chief Interrogator" suggests that he was pretty good at his job - which is torturing people.
Does that mean all official police interrogators in the real world, simply torture people and are evil villains?
That's a shot to the foot of your claim, GG. Unless you'll honestly claim that, then I'd love for you to meet a real-world interrogator, and stop generalizing. -
-
Quote:I understand your point, simply pointing out what my stance was. If someone is doing an Expy or Captain Ersatz, back off. If someone is BLATANTLY COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT, shove a report up their butt. The point I'm making is that the statement you made is exactly the argument the people making blatant rip off characters use. They want everyone to ignore the fact that they were breaking the rules in the first place. In their minds they are victims and the real bad guys are the ones enforcing the rules.
They make the same argument when they get caught using names the GM's deemed offensive. -

Wow. What a garbage article. How did this get posted? It's not journalism, in the least. It's nonsense. No wonder it didn't have the cojones to tag it as City of Heroes.
I almost hope someone gets beaned in the head for this one. Nethergoat nailed this mess on the head, this is a ludicrous thing to see posted on any gaming website that fancies itself as 'journalism'. -
Quote:He never played it up, anyway. If you can't acknowledge the man was very noble and put the people, and even the player, before his own safety? I'm going to feel REALLY bad supporting you in the past threads, GG.Anyone who has the job title "Chief Interrogator" in the security force of a dictatorship is not a good person
Not everyone in a 'dictatorship' is in the same boat. You know better.
And really, Cleo? With all of her so-called 'information', couldn't even be ***** to bother knowing you were with the Resistance or otherwise? Kind of questionable. Even so, she herself did some questionable things. It's a shame EITHER had to die, in the end. But, when it comes down to it, Washington was nothing but noble, while Cleo was sort of skirting. -
-
Hrm. That is a lot of work to still be less effective than Thugs or Demons.
Working as intended. -
Quote:Stop boozing for a moment and read what I said. I meant, and stated, specifically in the cases of an Expy, or a Captain Ersatz. Both are protected well enough by the law.See what I mean? It's not THEIR fault for breaking the rules, it's YOUR fault they got caught.
I am supportive of "XvXDEADPOOLXvX" being reported.
I am against "Deathlake" being reported.
You may continue your boozing now.
Note: Expys and Ersatzs do not break the rules, either. So, your statement, in regards to mine, is false. Again, it helps to read and take whole context, not snip individual sentences. -
Retarded AI, pretty much. I love the AT, but the AI has gotten worse since i22. It's just not worth it anymore.
I will likely go back to Masterminds if they ever get Cold Domination, however. -
I do not think this is a case of "I am not bothered by..."
No, this sounds a lot like someone's immersive and serious roleplaying experience is easily bothered by, what is obviously, a pet peeve. You wouldn't go on and on about reporting people and demanding bans if it DIDN'T bother you.
I remember speaking to Beastyle once about this, and he said, roughly, "It usually doesn't matter. People do what they think is fun. If it becomes an obvious issue, we'll handle it."
This makes me believe that, at least in his case, a Captain Ersatz or an Expy are not really an issue, and people like you are the ones who MAKE them issues, or at least try to.
In my opinion, the only one really at fault is you for not letting people have their fun. You ARE, deny it or not, bothered by this. And yet parody laws and a slew of others will gladly defend Paragon for someone running around as "Captain Bromerica", a StJ/Shield user who is Blue, White, and Red.
Quit pooping on other peoples fun. -
Just another request to give us a confirmed date of removal, for the sake of anyone who wishes to buy into Celestial just before it is removed (IE: if they won't be getting their next token before the patch, so on.)

Quote:Player Characters have Human Intelligence as their advantage. NPCs don't lose offensive toggles and can't get 'locked' as a result. Quit complaining and adjust your play.I am running the Field Agent Keith Nance story arc with the NPC copies of myself on a gravity/time controller.
The first thing I do on meeting my double is hit them with Gravity Distortion to hold them.
The problem is that my double is using Time's Juncture, an offensive toggle, and it does not turn off when they are held, unlike the player version. It does not even suppress as it still affects my character.
This toggle is much too powerful to have that advantage, otherwise players should have the same advantage of it not turning off when mezzed.
This needs to be fixed or we players need to have our offensive toggles stay on even while mezzed, and our defensive toggles as well(since they suppress).
Edit:
FYI, the villain mission from Leonard after Dean MacArthur with the 8 clone army will likely be much harder, borderline impossible, due to this. -
Quote:Considering Blueside outnumbers Redside by, what? 3 to 1? I'd like to see those villains get a foot out the door before they're curbstomped to oblivion. Of course, Villains are Super Awesome Omega Immortal. Either way, Leo_G, enough of your blatant trolling. I can't dictate how the storyline guides my hand, only how my individual roleplaying does.I didn't say they were more than happy to. I say they're not actively seeking more heroic means of resolving things. You speak of the 'greater good' and 'necessary evil' but that's the *villain's* reasons for their actions in this war...
But I wonder, after this war, how many orphanages or metropolitan areas your heroe's lenience have doomed to destruction by an army of incarnated villains...a necessary evil, I suppose.
If I had a say, City of Villains would have never happened. As it never should have. -
Fairly certain continuing a war who's single justification has been shattered for months, and willingly annihilating his city and populace (evacuation being by Primal Earths hands, mind you. He was willing to 'save' his people through death.) is his own cause.
-
Quote:You're suggesting, by no in-game text, Heroes are more than happy to help Villains. You can't cite this, or even begin to cite this. And yet there's cases of organizations like Longbow and Vanguard Sword being absolutely livid about this (although to borderline villainous levels). The fact is, there is no evidence Heroes support this. At all.And how is going off a Villains perception of the game different from:
"To suggest it be willing and openly embraced is something my character personally scoffs at. A mission's a mission, even if she's terribly unhappy about the circumstances."
Which is a hero perspective. I suppose if you're basically handwaving villains involvement away, as if they're *only* helping out of the goodness of their heart or even their own self-preservation.
I have and heroes seem to always try to justify their own failings, in more than just the i-trials. It gets down to the meat of what a hero actually is: someone who tries to help everybody and do the right thing. But it's hard being right and it's impossible to rescue the world. Rescue hostage from mission but fail? "Oh, we teleported them out just in time!" Alexis dies? "Bah, the writers suck!" Have to work with villains? "Pfft, that's not my hero's perception!" Excuses excuses. Even the best of the best screw up, to turn one's nose up to those who may once have been a hero is practically the opposite of a hero.
Even if Cole is having a temper-tantrum, a *true* hero would still have compassion for their enemy...but I guess annihilating him is just as good.
And Cole's annihilation is his own doing, nothing more. -
Quote:I doubt the villains flat-out say that. Again, you're making assumptions for your case and this is getting tiring in this thread. And assuming all heroes is doing the same thing... ugh. Done responding to this line of questioning.Still doesn't dismiss the villain element. Because, to many villains, they speak to Lady Grey under the conditions of "Sure, I'll help...but I'm taking as much well juice I can carry to increase my incarnate powers to run everything how I want so it's only a matter of time..." and her answer is pretty much "........... .......Granted."
You'd have to be pretty dense, as a hero, to not know this and beyond desperate to the point of insanity to actually pick up the axe and march into battle and not do everything in your power to resolve things some other way. Yup, Cole basically throws in all his chips in an effort to win...but heroes are doing the exact same thing...
And villains reap the rewards, of course...
...that is, unless those heroes are desperate to grab at that well juice too in order to attain a balance. Just admit it! You're no pure and shining light of justice, hero! An ounce of grey is worth the world in darkness for many villains but a hero attempting to justify the means is but a step away from black.
Making assumptions based off nothing but your own perceptions of the game is silly. Go by the lore or don't go anywhere.
It's almost like you haven't read the thread. -
Let me stop you... there. Again, necessary evil. When it comes to my personal roleplay, Villain Assistance is an absolute last resort, and has to come as a direct, higher-in-command order (Lady Grey, so on). To suggest it be willing and openly embraced is something my character personally scoffs at. A mission's a mission, even if she's terribly unhappy about the circumstances.
As for people only helping to become the Champion themselves, I have to admit to not liking that being railroaded in, and would like if Paragon pursued the options of people either wanting to become Champion themselves, or stressing that some people are simply doing it because a Hero is willing to make those sacrifices.
A lot of my issues with the Incarnate Arc is the level of... doucheyness that we, the players, are toward Prometheus. It plays us all up as being power-hungry and self-centered jerks. Unless it's to show us the Well is slowly making us more egotistical and insane. If so, well, bravo? But I don't like being railroaded.
In the end, my heroes do what they do because they have to. A hero will do whatever it takes, within reason, for the greater good. If that means shouldering the sins of a villain as they stop a greater threat, so be it.
But she will very, VERY often tell them to pike off if she seems them in Pocket D, or GOD FORBID the "Villains but are Hero Labeled for Easier Leveling" are known to her. They even get party kicked with an apology for it, OOCly. ;P -
And I use to stand up for Emperor Cole, but after Underground and due to I23, that's just not something I can stomach doing anymore. I was really, really hoping he'd have a bit of a turn-around after the Duray incident and the attempt to save Primal Earth from the Seed of Hamdion, but eh...
You don't always get good writing. -
Don't argue with Slaunyeh about the status of Cole right now. He's pseudo in-character, with a stance Emperor Cole and Praetoria are righteous, and 'Primitive Earth' is evil. At this point, if he doesn't accept the game lore for what it is, he's roleplaying a terribly brainwashed individual.
-
Quote:I was hoping for that, but nope. Oh well. While I'm glad he didn't get a face heel turn so we can get the climatic final battle with him, I'm almost sad he didn't get some epic moment of redemption and a final battle against Praetorian Hamidon to die as the hero Praetoria needed all along. I guess that's too anime of me, though.
Primal Earth foreva! Down with teh evil empuror! -
Quote:Right. As I've said, he was arguably a Hero at some point, but I prefer the term 'necessary evil', considering the state Praetoria is. Drugging and psychic-mind-washing your populace is not Heroic. At all. Even if your intentions are for the survival of all, that's not Heroic. Lawful Evil, maybe, if we need to use a tag.Probably both. I'll have to come annoy-I mean talk to you sometime.
But yeah.
Tyrant's a lunatic now. He's reached that "Last Resort" stage villains get where all their cunningness fades and they go berserk. Zant in Twilight Princess is a blunt example.
A Hero once, a Villain once he came into power. A 'Necessary Evil', which quickly turned into 'Temper-Tantrum Child Scorned' when things didn't go his way. His role was played, and his villainy fully exposed. What MAY have once been a Hero, died long ago.
