Not going to happen. The devs have pretty much said they are happy with pvp the way it is. Some of your suggestions just takes it back to issue 12 pvp.

With that said I'd be happy if they did some/all of these.

    Unfortunately this.

  2. Well, it was actually all of the current team that stayed, save for Jack and I believe one other. Most of the people that actually created/worked on CoH initially (Poz, Geko, etc) are still with Cryptic. Luckily, I believe they decided to keep Geko away from the power balancing in CO.
  3. I'd probably go WP for general purpose PvP use now. It tends to do the best overall with the way PvP is now.
  4. I think it's because the devs said "Hey, we want that guy to be right, so we made i13. Keep that thread around so it looks like this was demanded by the players."
  5. It's got almost perfect rhythm. I listened to it way longer than I should have.

  7. 1) Would most likely never see one another. The spiner might have the range advantage, but if either died, they failed badly.

    2) Sonic/Cold would be my guess. Turn them powers into dots with -recharge and shout away.

    3)Confuse + MM = ouch

4)Neither should lose again, but the Fire/SS still has the advantage, I'd say. That WP/Dark isn't a PvP character, but should be able to play defensively to recover in any situation.

    5) Interesting match. I'd probably give it to the dom though.

And we're totally doing something exactly like what TribalHavok suggested for Travel Suppression.

If they follow you to the base, then by all means, go to the base. This is a tactical advantage as well.

At your base, you'll have the NPC advantage as well as having your opponents near your drones and far away from their base. In a one on one situation, if the opponent keeps you in eye view long enough to see you enter your base (provided you couldn't beat them before), then you can use your NPC's to your advantage and get your kill. Alternatively, you could drone them, which has the effect of allowing you time to change your position and prepare to ambush them shortly after.

In a team vs you scenario, attempting to pull an aggressive team too close to your base so that they drone themselves (always funny) can cause their team make-up to crumble and allow you to get a kill or two in before having to retreat. With your NPC's backing you up, your base becomes your team to even out your numbers. If the enemy doesn't want to face that risk, they need not pursue you all the way to your base.

And if they don't pursue you that far, then running to the base or not isn't really an issue, is it?

    PvP i13 forward

    I say it is PvP.

There are two basic objectives when in a PvP zone. One is to kill your opponent. The other is to make sure he doesn't kill you. In the event that objective one is not a current possibility, you prioritize objective two until you are able to complete objective one.
  11. MA is probably the best give the devs gave PvP'ers since they ruined PvP. Now one doesn't have to spend all that time in PvE getting a 50 just for it to be made useless.
  12. If you're going that route, then good luck. I'd grab MoG, build for +HP and Recharge, and pray.

Also, SJ isn't absolutely necessary, you can get away with just SS and CJ.

Yeah, debuffs are good now. They took defense's place when elusivity was nerfed.

    Buffs are still junk though.

Think about how you were killed. Then return and work with what you learned. Getting damaged badly? Purples, Oranges and Greens. Losing a war of attrition with an elusive opponent? Yellows and Reds. Getting TP'd to hell and back? Pop an orange. Enemies awaiting for your return from the same direction? Take an alternate route and ambush them.

In a zone, after every kill, you have the time you need to reflect on what you have done and what has happened to you. And in those defeats are the lessons to gain victory. This is true for every PvP'er that has played in the game. We were all noobs once, and we all have been rolled.

Perhaps you did have a chance. If I can take a non-PvP built Ice/Dev into SC against 6-7 villains and get kills, then a pair working together in BB (where insps are readily available) can get kills.

What I would like to know is, how did it level the playing field? There are still FotM's, bad builds, etc. While fights can (but not always) last longer, often the chance one had at victory was considerably smaller. Before, one could do well with even a "bad" build in an environment of good builds, provided they knew how to play it. Now, a bad build is only mediocre against bad players and useless against anyone halfway decent or better.

Even outnumbered, one can get their kills with the right application of tactics. ESPECIALLY in Bloody Bay. Getting a kill or two, even if the result is dying, is still getting a kill.

You're right. I made an unjust assumption. I apologize.

But wouldn't more players in the zone, jerks or not, given you more opportunities to get your kills? Again, there were plenty of ways to deal with unseemly types that didn't involve killing the game for a lot of people who enjoyed PvP as it was that weren't out just to ruin someone's day.

    Stop Nerfing PvP

I seriously doubt the majority mocked you for anything if you asked. Most PvP'ers on the forums aren't that big of jerks (except to one another, which is another matter all together).

In any PvP thread that asks for help, you'll generally find the info you need from a majority of the good responses. There's usually a joke or two thrown in, but they are the minority compared to the real responses, and even fewer are ever with any malicious intent.

I do understand the spirit behind why they made these changes, but they failed spectacularly. Things became more unbalanced, putting you at even further of a disadvantage. Powers that are often seen as gimp in PvE (Flurry, Jump Kick) are now better in PvP than most/all of your primary attacks. How does that help close the gap between a PvE and a PvP build? In reality, all one ever needed to do was take their character into a PvP environment and practice. One didn't need to build specifically for PvP to be good, but the myth around PvP in this game made it look that way.

In retrospect, this feels a lot like the whole "The devs nerf more than they buff" myth that was put out a while back.

I feel the changes they made have improved PvP. Among the people that quit over the changes were some of the most obnoxious losers that were driving off potential pvpers.

Since those guys left I even started playig enough to earn the Dimensional Vortex for the SG I'm in. I never would have bothered if the recent pvp changes hadn't driven off the jerks.

    [/ QUOTE ]

So, it wasn't that the changes improved PvP, but rather, the changes drove off people that you avoided in order to get a PvP reward without having to PvP.

Jerks in PvP zones might have driven off potential players, but so did driving off the people who would help new players get better. These changes drove off a lot of helpful and friendly players that have gotten others into PvP and would have continued to do so. It also killed off the interest in PvP in several people I had started to help teach. Now things are considerably different from how they work in PvE, making the curve a bit harder to fathom for a new player. Only thing is, now there's fewer players to help them learn, good or bad.

A number of my characters got "better" with the i13 changes, but that doesn't mean it was good for PvP just because my personal situation improved. I could see how buffers were affected, how melee was affected, and how teamwork and other tactics unique to this game's PvP were affected in a very bad way.

There were a number of ways to deal with a zone jerk that didn't involve driving a majority of your core PvP base out of the game. The first step would have been to ask for help.
  20. I missed two. Equation's fashion articles are actually entertaining at times (understandable why he hasn't been able to write more, given what's been going down) and Xury's article was great.

JMan's article had a very Hot/Cold reaction, depending on who viewed it. The ones who hated it seem to give the impression that they didn't understand it was supposed to be humor. The ones who were indifferent were just that. The ones who liked it seem to appreciate a good roast. This went farther than the PvP community, btw.

Em Smack was the high point of the comics for the CS. While there were a couple flops, the jokes generally had a bit of depth to them. Lattice's comics were considerably more shallow, with the punchlines being basically handed to you, thus taking the humor right out of them. Hecktic Life even more so. I can applaud the two for putting their work out there for all to criticize, but they're just below Marmaduke/Ziggy/Family Circus in terms of funny.

For writers that you might consider looking into/asking submissions from, I'd look at both Fearghas and Heroid. Even an interview of either of those two would gain more interest from me than what's been running recently. If you can find her, Soaring Valor would be an excellent source to draw from for articles. Seeing as how she used to do her own weekly for quite some time and were some of the best reads I've seen on these forums, I'd definitely check her work out. (If you can find her, as she's been incommunicato as of late).

And I'm sure if you said "Hey, could you do up some MS-Paint comics for us?" Xury would be all over that. He could probably do an entire edition of the scoop in MS-Paint weekly, if he was motivated enough.

The PVP Community that proved intractable, elitist and arrogant? The Devs informed the PVP community that changes needed to be made, and big ones. At every turn, they were met with "this sucks, change it back" when that wasn't an option. Rather than finding a compromise point, many hardcore PVP'ers simply took their ball and went home.

    [/ QUOTE ]

You must have come in late to the i13 beta. Also, could give us some names of the elitist and arrogant PvP'ers? Unless, of course, you believe that the broad brush covers the whole of the community.

When i13 was announced, many of the current PvP players said it was a bad idea. During the closed beta, many of those had given ideas and compromises to the devs along with reasons as to why their designs weren't going to work. Johnny_Mercone, Avid, NotPutzing, TribalHavok and myself included gave very detailed feedback with no "noise" to speak of. Other experienced players, like Ownage and Ajax, gave even further examples as to why certain sets were made even worse in comparison to others, thus widening the gap between what's good and what isn't.

When the devs lied about some issues ("We're working on a form of travel suppression much like TribalHavok's suggestion" when it was NOTHING like it) and then stated how the changes were never meant for us, that's when most of the core PvP'ers called it quits.

Do I agree with the OP's suggestion? Not really, as it seems as ill-thought out as the i13 changes were. But to state that the PvP crowd just blasted the changes without offering solutions and then ragequit is just dishonest and incorrect.
  22. Honestly, there's only been three people to have put anything in the CS that's been worth reading: Neuronia, Dirtwolf, and JMan.

These last issues haven't been getting any better and today's was no exception. There's better writing to be found out there in this game. Any way the editors of CS can go out there and find them so we aren't left with what we've been given in these past many issues?
