Quote:How does everyone having equal access to the same IO's for use in PvP translate as a desire to having better gear than another guy just to make them unhappy? That's a pretty huge leap of logic.Its really hard to summarize any community as a whole, especially when that community has the potential to contain people with multiple personalities ;-) But,The vitriol over the idea that everyone should have a third pvp build only for use in pvp zones, that could be built out however they wanted using any available IOs was intense. There was no mistaking where they were coming from. The funny thing was there even seemed to be pve'ers who felt making a great build was a needed form of one upsmanship for them and this would diminish it.
So yes, I would go with the bulk of the community felt that way and you can take it as evidence that some people can't be happy unless they know others are unhappy.
Why not at least modify your statement as a more accurate "some members of the PvP community would like..." rather than using an inaccurate wide brush? It might be a bit misleading, but at least it would be better than a generalization. -
The community as a whole, or are you using the personal preferences of a minor fraction of the community to speak for them all?
-
Just Spirit Shark, the ranged blast. Hits like a bus and causes knockback against unprepared targets.
-
But you weren't killed with one attack, that just happened to be the one attack that killed you. If a blaster hits me with Flares, Fire Blast, and Blaze, then a Defender tags me with brawl and kills me, I don't say that I was one-shotted by a Defender with brawl.
-
Because one can not be sure why person A is in the zone until they state as such. All person B knows is that there's someone in the zone that can kill them and if they want to survive, they had better strike first.
-
PvP zones are also the only level gated areas on that side of the game. The devs may have wanted to use that to regulate how early one could actually get those accolades.

I enjoy watching a match as it happens when you're on vent with one of the teams. Much easier to see what's happening when it does.
-
Placate is currently broken (and has been for a LONG time) for stalkers in PvP, and there hasn't been one-shotting stalkers in the game since i7. Not saying I agree with the OP, just clarifying that little bit.

Quote:This is more of a half and half statement. I consider myself part of the PvP community, and I would love to see more PvE content as well. It gives me something else to do while I level up those characters. Some others feel the same as I do, while some don't.
The PvP community, on the other hand, could care less if there is more PvE content, because the ones who are here for PvP usually PL their characters up in order to PvP. More PvE content is wasted on them unless it gives them a more efficient way to PL their PvP characters while skipping as much content as possible. -
Get Stealth, Invis, Phase, a Stealth IO, Sharks and Hibernate. After that, everything else should be standard issue.

Quote:Actually, he says in his articles that playing to win and being a jerk are two separate things. You can still play to win and be friendly and sportsman like. You just don't hinder yourself with arbitrary rules because other people could use the factors of those rules to beat you. One's attitude as far as how they interact with you is a different issue all together.As previously stated i dabble a little in streetfighter 4 i aint a raw noob but i aint a mega combo king either. I play because i enjoy the game. This apparantly is the wrong attitude to have in games! note this site http://www.sirlin.net/ptw catagorically describes why my/our attitude is and i quote 'superfluous and counterproductive' the guys in street fighter would have me powerlevel/farm/gank in anyway just to get ahead. I cannot belive this is the attitude becoming of gamers these days. am i getting just too old and wrapped in my cloak of niceness or is it something else i am having trouble sorting right from wrong here. i'd like your oppinions (fyi this IS CoH topic as its about your gamer attitude IN game)

Quote:Being robbed in real life is against the law. Being attacked in a PvP zone isn't. The analogy fails.It is also understood that certain areas in real life should not be traversed after dark. However, what happens if your mother (or another woman you care about) has car trouble in such a place and, not having a cell phone, has to get out of the car to find a pay phone? Is she then somehow responsible for any crimes perpetrated against her?
Quote:Next PuG I'm in, I'll just say, "I want to get the exploration badges from (name of PvP zone), so how about the 7 of you go along with me and put yourselves at risk? Reiraku said it was okay". I'm sure that would go over *very* well.
Quote:How am I suppose to "avoid" PvPer #2 when he's standing behind me (invis'd) and smites me when I'm trying to run away from PvPer #1's onslaught?
Quote:I'm *not* looking for XP in a PvP zone. Give me *some* credit! I've gotten attacked by NPCs who were near the exploration badge. Trying to run away from them has gotten me beaten up from behind while the PvPers beat me up when I turn around.
Quote:Easier said than done! My character's HP gauge has been dropped so low that I can't even see the red! Am I suppose to risk a one-shot for *you* so that *you* can claim that you bested me because of your 133t sk111z? I look around to make sure I don't see anyone, *then* I rest. Of course, if you're invis'd, then it's harder for me to see you. Right?!
Quote:Asking them to cease their unwarranted and unprovoked attacks is somehow wrong? Interesting supposition ... as is your assumption that you *know* what the Devs and other players are thinking. I also find it interesting that you -- who do not know me in-game or out-of-game -- would make the assertion that I'm "abus[ing] the game's rewards". Please explain that to me, because it sounds like you're saying that you don't want me to somehow get a PvP IO recipe and sell it to a vendor for hundreds of influence when you can flip it a few times at Wentworth's and get billions for it. That's it, isn't it?! -
Not really. It's the same on all the servers. There aren't roaming packs of 8 person death squads that shout profanities all over the place as many would suggest. The majority of people in a PvP zone usually keep the commentary to themselves and usually act either alone or in small teams. People don't see that though. They just see the one person spouting off and remember them rather than the other nine that didn't say a thing.
-
Thing is, people do exactly that and yet the offended don't care. It isn't the 38-40 nice ones in the group that get remembered, it's the one bad one. (To lift from another thread)
Not only have I seen quality members of the PvP community offer as a counter to the jerks, but also shown ways to eliminate interacting with jerks entirely. The most common response to these methods is "But why should I HAVE to do that?"
In short, there isn't a problem with the "community". There's a problem with people holding the community responsible for the actions of individuals. I don't hold non-PvP'ers responsible for things that jerk carebears say, mostly because I recognize that every person is responsible for themselves and how they behave. No more, no less. -
Quote:I always found that to be an odd reason. People won't sign off on the PvE game because of a jerk in a PuG, but will when it comes to PvP. Many will handily say "well, I'll just team with friends now instead of doing PuGs" but won't say "I'll just arena people in my SG/friends list instead of stay in the zones."You want to know another reason the PvE crowd hate PvP? It's the bad attitude a few of the PvPers have. You know the ones, they will gank someone that is new and them mock them till they get sick of it and leave. The number one complaint I have heard about PvP in this game isn't the lack of rewards, drops or even they way the powers work in the zones, it's the way the PvPers act. For every bad apple there are 30-40 great and helpful people, but all anyone remembers is the jerk.
-
Quote:Exactly, how do you propose one does that? The only person I'm responsible for is myself, same as you. When I get to control what other people say, then maybe that will change.If the PvP community doesn't want such types representing it, then the PvP community should stop *letting* such types represent it.
Quote:* Players attacking without provocation (I don't initiate combat);
* Players refusing to take "I'm not a PvPer, I'm just here for badges" for an answer;
* 8-person team attacking me;
* Players attacking me because they're bored;
* Players teleporting me into drones;
* Players watching me try to run away from a PvPer, then killing my character when I try to get around them;
* Players watching me whittle down an NPC, then killing my character just before I got the kill shot -- so they could steal the xp, etc.;
* Players invis'd behind me, who wait till I finish fighting an NPC, then Assassin Strike my character while she's resting;
* General jerkish behavior and the "obligatory", "Oh! I *thought* I was in a PvP zone" garbage. -
I kind of wish she were more prevalent in the game so other people could try her out. Maybe all the Nos complaints would fade a bit in comparison.
-
Also, Shields has a modest Damage boost as well, though that can be detoggled fairly easily.
-
It should also be known that Hot of War (of the SG, Korea) and Hero Base Drone 436-B have announced their engagement. We expect the wedding sometime next year, in the fall.

With TA, if you're helping your team in an effective manner, no one will ever notice it. It's just how the set works in this game.
