Ah ... but it's the rare times when you get to pull the reverse on a Defender that are the most glorious and precious.

I was on a Weekly SF with my Huntswoman ... Leggs ... and we had a Defender on the team. If I'm recalling correctly, she was an Empath (I think) ... but as we played along, I started noticing that the Defender was hanging back, playing "defender" all the way and essentially "flying the guages" trying to be ready to Heal everyone should it be necessary. Problem was, between my Auras (+21% Defense vs All) and everyone else's native powerset protections, we were taking hardly any damage at all (and if we did, it's because someone decided to "leave the pack" and go do their own thing).

So by the second mission in the SF, I'm really noticing that this Empath basically isn't doing much, because she's doing what she's supposed to when she's totally focused on being a H3al0r ... which is monitoring the team, rather than engaging the enemy. Problem was, we really didn't need her healing ... we were doing fine without it.

Leggs: By the way, $Empath ... feel free to OFFend whenever you're ready.

I actually saw the Defender's avatar *STOP* and there was a very significant pause, before the response came back ...

Empathy Defender: *What* did you just say to me?!?

I very much got the feeling that our Defender was feeling affronted/insulted by my comment ... and very likely taking it the wrong way.

Leggs: Feel free to OFFend when ready. After all, you're so much more than *just* a DEFender ...

I can only imagine what was going through our Defender's mind after reading that ... especially since this was all happening DURING combat with a spawn group (so I was dropping DPS to type in chat). Significantly though, I saw our Empath pull out her Bow and help finish off the rest of the spawn group before replying.

Empathy Defender: That may very well be the nicest thing anyone has ever said to me ...

After that, we had the most Gung-Ho Empath rockin' out beside me you could ever want. She'd fill stuff up with Pointy Sticks, and I'd fill them full of Hot Lead (and stand ankle deep in brass). The two of us were practically inseparable. Anyone who stayed near us ... LIVED. Anyone who wandered off to solo stuff, was on their own (and they were fine with that).

Didn't hurt that the rest of the team encouraged our Empath to get medieval on everything we encountered either. After all, we needed Kill Speed more than we needed Healing. I like to think that we TOTALLY made her day.
  3. PEGASUS RYUSEI KEN

    And obligatory Pegasus Fantasy ...

Note that reconfiguring Flurry to work like a single target Shield Charge that lands a "flurry" of punches instead of a PBAoE would be very much in keeping with the spirit of a Pegasus Ryusei Ken

(and yes, I've been watching anime for longer than a lot of people on these forums have been alive)

  6. Let's not beat about the bush here, Doctor Vivian. Your position (which, by the way, all historical evidence supports) is that Bases are trapped in a vicious circle of Self-fulfilling Apathy. It can essentially be summed up that as long as nothing changes, the reasons to continue to change nothing become ever more and more compelling, simply as a matter of institutional inertia.

    Self-fulfilling Apathy.

Please note that while such a position may FEEL extremely satisfying in the great traditions of "I Told You So!" ... it does absolutely nothing to advance *solutions* for how to break out of the vicious circle of Self-fulfilling Apathy. Worse, defending the vicious circle of Self-fulfilling Apathy as a sort of "as it always has been, thus shall it ever be, world without end. Amen." is one in which it is very easy to continually "move the goalposts" such that IT IS ABSOLUTELY *NOT* POSSIBLE to break the vicious circle of Self-fulfilling Apathy.

And as such, all offered solutions to try and break the cycle are needlessly strangled before they can be given a chance ... and the cycle continues, world without end. Amen.

There have been times when I have told people that I would rather NOT be proven right.

Wouldn't you like this to be one of those times, when you are not proven right ... Doctor Vivian?

One major difference between Dechs' build and mine is that I decided to go with the Medicine Pool on my WS, and the Leadership Pool on my PB. I simply found the synergy of Shadow Recall+Resuscitate+Stimulant, along with Aid Other and Aid Self, to be WAY TOO USEFUL on teams (and especially on TFs). I am quite honestly surprised with just how much mileage I routinely get out of the Medicine Pool on my WS ... both for myself and for others. Being able to Aid Self when there are no corpses around to Stygian makes a really big difference in being able to "Keep up with the Joneses" on teams, and in solo situations too.

  10. "I am the Incarnation of Death, and your souls exist only to feed my hunger for POWER."

My Tri-form WS ... Ms Terry ... runs BAF in Human Form, reserving Nova and Dwarf for "if needed or advantageous" situations. Prisoner Escape Phase is PURE HUMAN ... in which I can slaughter Wholesale, rather than Retail. Turn on the 3 Shields, Inky Aspect and Orbiting Death. Stand right up next to the South Center Door Spawn, touching the door (so your Orbiting Death Radius extends "into" the Door). Use Eclipse, Human Mire, Stygian Circle when recharged and appropriate. Unload Judgement at own discretion.

Orbiting Death will be ticking for damage LONG before the Prisoners spawn out of the Doors! With (Human) Mire powering up my Orbiting Death, it is actually VERY COMMON for spawning Prisoners to "fade out dead" just as they run out the door ... and not leave a corpse on the ground beside me. They actually DIE before they can exit the Door, if they're a Minion! The corpses I stack up around my ankles are mainly the Lieutenants and Bosses ... who manage to live long enough to actually get out the Door!

And if anyone tosses a Caltrop Patch around where I'm "holding court" on my Door ... NOTHING escapes the riptearshredmanglemaimbendfoldspindlemutilatedecap itateidevouryoursoulandlaughmaniacally of Orbiting Death.

On the Siege phases, I go park on the spawn point for Adds ... in Human Form ... and just Wash, Rinse, Repeatedlyripyourheadoffanddevouryoursoul every 30 seconds or so. Inky Aspect is great for neutralizing any Minion class mobs in the spawn group. It's easily possible to saturate Eclipse and Human Mire at the time of Adds Spawn so as to be an impossibly powerful Human Form Soul Eater full time. And if there's little to no knockback, there's plenty of corpses lying around for you to Stygian Circle.

BAF is a "happy place" for my Warshade.

Lambda tends to need my Tri-form talents more.

Street Sweeping and Courtyard Clearing and Turret Toppling are all done in Nova Form (it just makes things easier). Indoors, I switch to Human Form, dial up the 3 Shields, and go Cloak and Sprint Stealth Proc to make my collection run in "Sneaky Mode" to avoid drawing aggro. During the collection phase, I may switch to Nova or Dwarf Form(s) as needed by the circumstances and aggro. Marauder Phase is back to Nova Form and using single target attacks only (on Marauder) from altitude so as to not draw ground-bound aggro onto myself ... allowing me to "plink" away at Marauder with impunity (so long as he doesn't THROW A ROCK AT ME). If I get Mezzed ... Dwarf Form ... and retribution follows.
  11. Trick Question:

Would the Costume Creator feature of this game be anywhere near as "cool" or as big a draw for the game today if (literally) NOTHING had been done for and/or with it Dev-side since Issue 6?

Imagine if the Costume Creator were ... today ... as "old and stale" as the Base Editor is in today's game. You see all that excitement generated every time a new costume set comes out? Now imagine if even a fraction of that excitement happened in the Base Building Community every time the Devs did something (anything...!) for Bases.

    Trick Question #2:

How much of a fraction of the excitement we see with additions to Costumes would we "need" to see in the Base Editor in order to "break even" on the investment of Dev Resources?

    Trick Answer #2:

No idea. Only the people at Paragon Studios can answer that question, since it impinges on their business model in multiple ways.

    No.

The flying swords you see in Apex are basically melee weapons held in the hands of invisible NPCs. That's NOT what I'm talking about.

I'm talking about swords being HURLED as projectiles (think rocket propelled if it helps you) in a flat trajectory. If that's not good enough for you to help think about it would look like ... try thinking about Fistful of Arrows from the Archery set shooting SWORDS instead of arrows.

    LIKE THAT.

  15. Gravitic Judgement (Target AoE)

Step 1: -1000 Mag Fly to targets for 30s

Step 2: 100,000 Mag KnockUP. Intent is to hurl targets to the "ceiling" of the zone, even if they have Knockback Resistance.

Step 3: Damage is not caused directly by the Judgement, at the time of casting. Damage is dealt by FALLING from an incredible height. Since Falling Damage, on its own, cannot defeat anyone (PCs, or NPCs), at best this Judgement will reduce all targets to 1 HP when they fall to the ground. After that ... it's just a quick Brawl to take them out (assuming they don't get scattered TOO far apart). Needless to say, Damage will be "better" on Outdoor maps than on Indoor ones (especially Indoor maps with low ceilings).

It's only an "end hog" if you don't slot it (big surprise there!). I hate to say it, but Icicles is THE MOST EFFICIENT WAY you have of turning endurance into damage. Even against Single Targets(!) ... Icicles does more damage per endurance spent than any other damaging power you've got. Icicles is *phenomenally* efficient at converting endurance into damage.

Don't believe me? Take a look in Mids' on the Power Graphs and set it for Damage Per Endurance. It's been a while since I looked, but I think there's a slider in there for Icicles so you can specify how many targets are within the PBAoE.

The only drawback that Icicles has is that it doesn't do damage QUICKLY. Instead, it does damage EFFICIENTLY over time. And when you've got Chilling Embrace helping you out with keeping hostiles stuck to you like flypaper, where your Icicles can riptearshredmanglemaimbendfoldspindlemutilatedestr oyannihilate ... you'll start to understand just how POWERFUL Icicles is, even with "only" Lethal Damage.

Oh and it's Lethal Damage because it's conceptualized as "piercing" damage (as should be obvious from the animation), as opposed to "time to take a bath in liquid nitrogen" cold burn.
  17. Here's an anime inspired Judgement.

    Step 1:

Spawn a big PBAoE circular "rune circle" (for lack of a better term) that has a Bright color palette. Note that for the purposes of this animation, even the Vanguard Sigil (scaled up) would qualify.

    Step 2:

Within the PBAoE "rune circle" ... a variety of swords come vertically up out of the "rune circle" hilt first until the blade point(s) clear the ground.

    Step 3:

All blades, in unison, re-orient/pivot from a floating, point down, through 90 degrees to be floating parallel to the ground plane (in this context, that would be the PBAoE "rune circle") with all blades aimed downrange.

    Step 4:

All blades, launch/fire themselves downrange at high speed as projectiles in stages.

    Game Mechanics:

Basically a "spawn flying swords" styled Cone Attack. Compared to other Judgements, this one could do Lethal Damage (yes, I know, highly resisted) and deal damage to targets in a (relatively, for Judgements) narrow cone ... of say ... 10 degrees. The difference is that the range on the Cone would have greater range ... of 150 ft. Essentially a "narrow cone snipe" styled Judgement, which would deal damage as a DoT of multiple hits to each target over a few seconds (think Rain of Arrows, but with Swords, fired horizontally, rather than Arrows falling from the sky).
  18. I've been using the new launcher for quite some time now and have no problems with it.

The memory leak in the game client however appears to be OS Agnostic and is something that also afflicts Windows game clients too ... meaning there's a problem in the fundamental game code.
  19. Can't speak for playing it on a mac book pro ... but I'm playing on a 4 year old iMac (24" screen was NEW back then!) ... and on my machine, with a ATI 2600 Radeon card, the performance is much better on Mac side (OS X 10.6.8) than on Windows XP.
  20. You're basically talking about porting over the Reflections Aura that you see so much of in the Shadow Shard.
  21. Dark Mastery's Petrifying Gaze is complete crap compared to Fire Mastery's Char.

Soul Storm from Soul Mastery wins hands down as the Crowd Pleaser though, if you're talking Holds, instead of Immobilizes.
  22. Noble Savage ... has anyone in the art department thought about apply the new "Nifty Face Tech" to our Bare Hands?? You know, something where we can get better texture/shadow mapping for our fingers so it doesn't look quite so obvious that everyone has flippers with thumbs on their arms?
