  1. The other day I was playing my level 12 corrupter in Cap Au Diable. I had just picked up a mission from Dr Shelly Percy, but needed to leave for a bit to do some errands. Before logging off, I parked my character right outside the mission door, which was a cave entrance on the south-east corner of the map, just past the Arachnos airfield. A few hours later I logged back in and found my charcater in the lobby of one of the buildings in Aeon City near the AE buidling. This was nowhere near the location where I logged out, nor had I even recently passed close to that area.

This has never happened to me before. Is this a known glitch that just happens sometimes?

I know this. Hence my telling the OP that DESPITE the existence of a filter, profanity is against the TOS. I'm not sure what it is you think I'm starting or what your objection to my comment is.

Good point. I can't imagine Dr Doom using the F-word, for one.

To the best of my knowledge, profanity is prohibited by the TOS (despite the presence of an optional profanity filter). I'm pretty sure there is no general monitoring of player dialogue for infractions, so you are safe to use profanity in semi-private chat (like Team or Supergroup) if you know that the other members of your team or group will not have a problem with it. However, if you use profanity in broadcast or local or if you group with people you don't know, there is a possibilty that you will be reported. (why someone offended by profainity would not be using the filter I can't say, but they're out there). Since it is against the rules, a ban could result from complaints.

Villains, rogues and vigilantes can be pretty freaky folks. Murder is all in a day's work - so I'm assuming topics of murder, torture and inhuman experiments sort of have to be in the clear
I can't see why this would be a problem unless you get into really graphic or gory details. Plenty of in-game content deal with these issues.

Again, just don't get too graphic when in public chat. I don't think you're required to avoid the topic entirely, but keep it clean if you don't know who all may be listening.

    Ala Chun Li?

    Maybe Capcom threatened to sue?
  6. I've only had to petition a GM on 3 occasions. My longest wait was about 10 minutes, the shortest about 2 minutes.

I haven't had to do so since GR. I imagine the spike in player population has overtaxed the support crew and caused inevitable delays.
  7. Redside, I'd pick St. Martial. Those Casinos, which are already pretty cool looking, would look absolutely fabulous with a Praetorian style make-over.

Blueside, I'm thinking Steel Canyon. Those lackluster skyscrapers could use some Praetorian architecture, and also some new and interesting level 10-20 missions would be good.

    You forgot the Resistance.
  9. Also, I believe you have to be level 5 for Provost Marchand to direct you to the next contact (actually he offers two and you choose one). Maybe you were only level 4 when you talked to him? Go back, he should give you a new contact now.
  10. The CDEC building in Imperial City grants the professor day job badge.
  11. By the way, the design for the Trading House in Imperial City is just awesome. I love the display cases with all the exotic goods. And adding power suppression as a feature will make lots of players happy.

I did. I admit I was a bit skeptical about Going Rogue bringing the population back up to big numbers. And then I logged in yesterday and saw that the load level for every single zone was either yellow or red. I have NEVER seen that before. And when I logged in, even the low pop servers had crowds of players everywhere. So much for DOOM, eh?

Fortunately, I have characters across many servers, so I had no problem finding one with no wait time. This was something I was told I should do back when I started. Now, finally, that advice really makes sense.
  13. Go to Sharkhead Isle and look for them on the beach running along the graveyard (Potters Field, I think?) I believe in the badge description it mentions Nerva, but they don't actually have to be defeated there, the ones in Sharkhead count too. And they are much easier to find in Sharkhead than Nerva, at least from my experience.

    So, LGTF Hamidon

I haven't done a task force in a while, so I had to check paragonwiki to make sure I had it right, but it says:

    Quote:
On a "signature" Task Force, enemies will spawn based on the task force's maximum level (and the leader's notoriety setting) regardless of the team's composition. Therefore Signature Task Forces are usually done by characters at (or above) the top of the level range.
    .

The proceeding chart on that page shows that the LGTF is indeed a signature task force, level range 45-50. Shouldn't that mean then that the entire arc would spawn enemies at level 50? Sounds like it's a bug if only Hamidon was level 50.

Or did they change this and the wiki is out of date? Like I said, I haven't done a task force in a while.

    Camera question

I believe it's working as intended since the camera can't see through the wall, and yes, I have seen the same effect in other games.

I find it most annoying when I get slammed back into a wall by an enemy's knockback and the perspective suddenly changes. Especially bad when I'm stuck on a low obstacle that I can't see and I don't know why I can't move (while said enemy continues pummeling me).

At this point you might be better served directing your questions regarding the EULA wording directly to NCsoft. Some of us have suggested possible reasons why certain provisions are in there, but no one in the Player Help section can give the definitive answers you seek. We're not lawyers and we didn't write the EULA.

As to the question of whether they care whether you own it:

If they really don't care whether you own it or not, why do they have the qualifier "third-party" in every single reference to copyrights or trademarks? If they didn't have that qualifier, that'd be clear and obvious. With the qualifier there, I can find no example of any policy banning me from using even an extremely well-known and trademarked name if I am the trademark holder. So why is the qualifier there, if as people are telling me, they don't mean it?
I think it's less an issue over whether or not they "care" if you own it as it a matter of whether or not they're actually going to take the time to verify if you are the actual copyright holder. I can't imagine why it would be worth their time to do so.

I've always assumed that the purpose of that wording was so that if they make a promotion video or demo or something that includes images of actual players playing their own characters, they don't have to go and get permission from each individual person to do it. Makes sense to me.

The argument makes sense. I think, though, you're missing a key point: Writers mostly have their heads full of ideas, which means it's very hard to find an idea that isn't either already in use, or likely to be worth using later. So even if you just go create a new character, a month later you've got a good idea for a novel with that character in it...
While it can be a challenge to come up with a truly unique idea, creative people are managing to pull it off everyday--or at least create material that doesn't infringe on existing copyrights. In the year and a half that I've been playing CoH, I've created 50+ heroes and villains, simply because I keep thinking up new ideas for characters. If I were to start publishing my own material, I have no doubt I could come up with another 50+ before long.

No, but Bob Kane would get his character gernericized in about 5 minutes, just like anyone else to tries to create and play Batman. And he wouldn't be able to name his character Batman, as it is blocked.

NCsoft doesn't have some sinister agenda to steal other people's copyrights. They simply don't want you to use any previously copyrighted material, period.

You compared it to a hypothetical situation involving a reward being taken away (in fact, the OP made the same exact comparison), which I think is unfair because that is a significantly different situation.

I think most of us agree that there is no good reason for the cape and aura mission to be linked.

Would the reaction to the OP's question be the same if we were talking about a decision the Dev's made that stripped all of us of TF Commander until we went back and ran Posi 1 and Posi 2 since.. "We have a new Task Force that covers that now and you haven't done it" ????
This comparison would be more apt if adding the new cape mission took capes away from players who earned them with the old mission. But they didn't. Is it annoying that players now have to redo the cape mission to get the aura mission? Sure. I think it definitely should be optional. But no earned rewards were actually taken away.

This is exactly the reasoning behind why I usually save the boss for last.

However, for a team, rule#1 isn't take down bosses last or take down bosses first. It's that everyone needs to be on the same page. It sounds like the problem in the example the OP gave was that the squishies were targeting the bosses (and risking drawing aggro) while the tank and scrapper were targeting minions. If everyone had been going after the same targets, I think it would have worked fine either way.

    What to do...

Well, there are about a million things you could do to occupy your time while not playing CoH, but it sounds like the real problem is that you need something to satisfy your CoH itch. So why not do something creative that you can later implement into CoH? Like....

Design a base. On paper. Make a diagram, mark where everything is. Sounds like you're already into making bases, so you probably have a good idea of what the possibilities and limitations are with bases in-game already.

Create a new hero or villain. Again, on paper (or in your head). Create an interesting bio/back story. Draw illustrations of the character if artistically inclined (you probably have a good idea of what the costume creator can reasonably reproduce) Maybe even get really creative and write stories about the character's adventures.

The creative aspect of this game is not necessarily limited to actually being logged in to your account!
