It's true that there is some debate over whether the Golden Age ended in the 40's or lasted until the beginning of the Silver Age. But either way, I wouldn't characterize the early 50's as the "dark ages" of comics. While it may indeed seem like a dark age from the perspective of a superhero comic fan, this was a period in which other genres-true crime, horror, science fiction, jungle adventure, romance, etc--flourished.

And yes, any classifying of comics into ages is highly arbitrary and oversimplifies the reality of comic history. But for better or worse, certain events, such as the 1956 relaunch of the Flash (considered the beginning of the resurgance of superhero comics) have become milestones around which fans and historians tend to mark the beginning and end of certain trends (which rarely actually have such concise start or end points).

If I couldn't do it with that sort of combination, something is severely screwed.
Is there any chance that one or more bifurcations were out and you simply didn't see them? I recall several times where Trapdoor summoned bifurcations at quite a distance from himself. On one occassion, I didn't realize he had summoned one until I noticed my attacks were having little effect, and I had to go hunting for it.

Besides that though I remember vampires popping up all through comics.
One of my favorite Marvel vilains was Baron Blood, the Nazi vampire, from the WWII era Invaders series. Marvel also published a Dracula seires and had Dracula cameo in plenty of their mainstream superhero mags such as Xmen and Thor. Marvel also had a pseudo-vampire character named Morbius. So yeah, no lack of vampires in superhero comics.

Actually, the Silver Age of Comics is generally considered to have begun in 1956 with the introduction of the new Flash, so 1951 was still within the Golden Age (as for when the Silver Age ended, that's another can of worms)

    Did you know...

I always group my heroes on top, the villains on bottom. And each group is ordered highest to lowest by level. I'm kind of anal.

    Children

Sometimes in the Rogue Isles (Port Oakes in particular), I will see an unusally short citizen walking around. Maybe its just a glitch with the NPC height scale, but sometimes these shorties are even sporting "youthful" looking clothes and hairstyles, which makes me suspect they are meant to represent chidlren. Although they still kind of look like just really short adults.

    Never see them in Paragon.

Once I was playing a level 40 blaster and got hit by a Malta stun grenade. I deleted the characer, remade him, and leveled him back up to 40 because it was faster than waiting for the stun to wear off.

    True story.

Okay, maybe I exaggerate. A little.

    Going Nuts!

Last time I did this mission, I went to Warburg first and did the mission to get the Nuke power twice. It really helped to clear the field of those pesky Rikti.

For the record, I had a couple of friends with me. But solo, I would still recommend a Nuke or two.

Funny, I once created a character named Flower Power. Yes, she had long hair and wore trippy colors (with a day-glow peace sign on her chest). Not a character I played, but a character in a spoof AE mission I wrote.

That's simplified but I hope you see what I mean.
I believe I know what you mean, and I agree. For me, creating a Silver Age style look usually involves selecting skin-tight spanex and then experimenting with colors and patterns. It doesn't require the wide array of complex accessories that the more modern look does. Therefore there are more parts in the costume designer that favor the later.

It just gets treated as the latter because some players (and devs) don't really care for super heroes, don't bother to respect the genre and setting or simply have a very lax opinion of what a super hero is.
I think one of the worst things the designers could have done would have been to try and impose a strict interpretation of the superhero genre on this game. I've been reading comics since the 70's and I can tell you that heroes based on a wide variety of genre--science fiction, fantasy, horror, you name it--have been a part of mainstream superhero comics since forever. You must think that Marvel and DC also have a very lax opinion of what a super hero is.
  11. I've been a fan of superhero comics nearly all my life. At 41, I still buy and read them more than ever. I'm not a huge roleplayer, but I do tend to design my heroes and villains around a good character concept rather than optimizing them for killing stuff.

I'm afraid every MMO probably has its share of players who just aren't into the genre. I imagine there are fantasy fans playing WOW asking themselves "doesn't anyone here like fantasy fiction?" right now. Fortunately, I mostly solo or play with friends who are also comic fans, so I don't really care what the rest of the playerbase feels about the genre. I can see where it would be an issue for you if you team a lot, but it sounds like you've already been steered toward the roleplaying server.

I don't agree that the costume creator is unduly biased toward the 90's era of gritty comics. One of the things I love about this game is that it gives you the freedom to create heroes from all across the spectrum of superhero comcis. I am personally a fan of the Silver Age, and have had no problem creating characters with a Silver Age look and feel.

Anyway, welcome to the game. I'm sure it won't take long for you to find other players who appreciate and share your love of comics.
  12. I mostly solo and have been doing tip missions since those seem to have a decent number of bosses in them. After running 9 tip missions (plus two non-tip missions) I still only have the single shard I got from Ramiel's arc. Am I just unlucky?

I don't think this particular charcter can handle the difficutly set to x5, otherwise I'd try that.

    Real Vigilante?

There are actually quite a few people around the country who do this. In fact there used to be a website dedicated to them I'm too lazy to look it up, but you can probably find it if you search for Real Life Superheroes.
  14. One unusual piece of misinformation I received back when I first started in January 2009 was that when I got a hero to level 20, I would have the option to create my very own archnemesis who would then appear as a reocurring adversary and fight my hero in upcoming missions.

After reaching level 20 on my first hero, I searched for the means to access this feature, only to discover that no such feature existed in City of Heroes. Apparently, the person who told me about it was mistakenly referring to a feature from the not-yet-released game Champions Online.
  15. I ran this mission with a Mercenaries Mastermind and didn't have a problem.

Although trying to keep my henchmen alive was more trouble than it was worth, I don't think I'll do it with a Mastermind again.

I have no idea if this will fix your freezing problem when loading the base, though.
  17. Usually I'll start with a concept and tailor the powersets to fit it.

Once in a while I'll choose powersets I want to play (mainly because I've never played them before) and then come up with a concept to fit them.
  18. About half the time I get the character selection screen, about half the time I get the login screen instead. A friend of mine says he gets the login screen about once every 3 or 4 times. So yeah, it's buggy, and more so for some people than others for some reason.

Bugs aside, I think this is one of coolest and longest overdue features.

The invasions provide experience, influence, and drops, all the same rewards that other content offers. And, of course, as already stated, for many of us, the real reward behind anything in the game is that it's FUN.

and why do we have to be forced into the rikti invasions it should be a choice, if its fun for some then others should not have to bare it, everything is a choice in this game except that. Makes no sense at all, they could make it allot more interesting atleast.
You're not forced to participate. If you don't stop and wait for them, the Rikti won't even spawn on your location.

This. I personally love the Rikti invasions. Not everyone does, just as I don't love every aspect of the game either.

As for there being no risk, sure, if you're over level 30 or are in the middle of a huge group spamming buffs and heals. Try facing an invasion with a small group on a low level character. You may find it rather challenging to keep from faceplanting.

Halloween isn't celebrated as much of a hervest festival in the States. It also isn't officially recognized as a holiday, so no day off for it (Most of us get TWO days off for Thanksgiving).

As already mentioned, Thanksgiving is too uniquely American to be included in a game with an international player base. Same reason we won't be seeing a 4th of July event. Also, not to knock the OP's suggestions, but I think there are really more fun and interesting things you can do with horror and winter themes than with a Thanksgiving theme (besides, hostile Native Americans might not be seen as very PC, and kind of goes against the spirit of the holiday which has often drawn attention to the friendly relations of the early white settlers and Native Americans).

Although I do have to admit a giant raging turkey would be a pretty cool GM.

In that case, it sounds like the Tank was doing something wrong. Specifically, it sounds like the Tank might have been attracting more agro that he was capable of hodling, which, as has already been explained, will cause the extra enemies to look for another target, such as yourself. Not your fault, not the game's fault, just a bad Tank.

This is what I've been doing. Of course, I keep thinking, "If I'd just waited until I19 to play this character, I would already have stamina at this point," but eh, I'm used to dealing with endurance issues pre-20 anyway, and not having to take the prerequisites for stamina is already making these lowbies more fun to play.

This never happened to me before, either.
This happened on Sunday. However, I've had that same experience winding up at the back of Wentworth's several times, but I think that one can be explained. The game loves to log you back in exiting from a misson door should you log out anywhere near one, and it seems the door on the back dock of WW counts as a mission door. Apparently standing near the WW NPCs is close enough to sometimes log you back in from that rear door.

In the case of what happened to me on Sunday, I logged out by a mission door in one part of the zone and logged back in at a mission door way on the other side. That I can't explain except to say it was probably a bug.

This is what I was afraid of, but nothing else seemed amiss, and I don't know why someone would hack my account just to move a character halfway across the zone. Maybe I better check my other character's stuff, but for now I think I'll just assume I fell through a hole like Aett suggested.
