Quote:I'm pretty sure NcSoft is still making money off of people playing their game. If they're not, they made a really bad business design decision somewhere.Shame. Kinda figured with a lack of money being made off of characters resembling other characters, it'd be less of a problem.
Quote:Making someone original based on what what the game has doesn't push it as much cause it's a character designed for this game and it has the parts you want, for the most part.
If you really want to have fun duplicating copyrighted characters with the character creator, there's nothing stopping you from doing that. You can even safe the costumes on your hard drive and admire them whenever you want. You just can't use those costumes in game (without risking being genericized, that is). -
Quote:I don't have much use for transfers either, so I just ignore them. Not so sure I could just as easilly ignore a flaming bag of poo on my porch. It is something the majority of the playerbase has no desire for. Sure it is something for nothing so technically a "gift" but the same can be said if I were to leave a flaming bag of poo on your porch.
Don't forget the limited characters slots for premium players. Not an issue for those with few alts, but if I went premium, I'd have to pay serious cash for character slots or lose access to a ton of characters that I play regularly. That's what's keeping me paying $15 a month for VP. -
The city council made him stand in the corner of city hall because he was being bad?

They said it would take a few months for the point allocation date to align with our subscription dates. It wasn't clear to me if the allocation date will remain on the 11th until fixed, or if it will slowly move closer to the correct date each month. Either way, not a big concern for me.

Quote:I guess I'm one of the dumber MMO players, because I don't see it.CoH contains some of the smartest players in any MMO, and we are more knowledgeable about this game than any other game community. If a game company intends to turn us into puppets, we can see the strings being tied to our fingers.
Quote:Now we have a delay in reward points that just happens to coincide with the release of a long-awaited powerset. But this 'technical problem' can be overcome easily by just giving them extra money. Isn't that convenient. -
Quote:If you mean that subscribers will no longer get free goodies with each issue and we'll have to buy all that stuff with points instead, I have yet to see any evidence to support that conclusion. Issue 21 came with plenty of freebies for subscribers and Paragon has promised to continue this trend. Looks to me like the Market really just replaced the old expansion packs they used to offer. Except there's more stuff offered, I can buy items piecemeal if I want,You're under a misapprehension about the new system. Everything except basic access to the game is now monetized. "Freebies" were such things as new costume pieces or the Mission Architect system that were introduced to all subscribers under the old business model and which are now offered on the Paragon Market.
and I get $5 to spend each month before even usuing any of my own money. Sound pretty good to me. I'm certainly not complaining just because I get those points a little late for a little while. -
Quote:Looks like I'm an affected subscriber. My subscription date is the 4th, so for the next few months I'll have to wait an extra week until the 11th to get my monthly allotment of bonus points. The next important issue for Paragon Studios is how to retain the good will for affected subscribers and the playerbase in general.
Considering that they're giving me 400 extra points per month, and also that I received 1600 points at the launch of Freedom when I only expected 1200, it's going to take a lot more than this for Paragon Studios to lose my good will.
I'm still trying to figure out if the OP is being completely serious. -
Far from it. While Redside has never been as popular as Blueside, there are plenty of players who enjoy playing Redside 1-50. There are some really great story arcs there. In fact, I'm playing more villains now that I can take Scrappers and Blasters Redside.

If I recall, there are two or three faces under the "young faces" that look distinctly asian. I'm pretty sure Penelope Yin's face is from one of them. Only problem is that, as the label suggests, they are also rather young looking--not so ideal for an older asian female.

Another good reason for alternating between characters, other than saving up Patrol XP, is that you don't get bored playing the same character over and over again, which seems to be part of the OP's problem. I usually alternate between characters with different ATs and powersets so that I can experience a sense of variety. Also alternating between heroes/villains and different level ranges helps ensure a more varied experience.
-
For me, a big motivation to invest time in the game is leveling characters with powersets I've never played before so I can unlock new powers. Imagine if you could unlock an entire new powerset just by respeccing a level 50 character. Until now the game has mostly made most its money off of subscriptions (may change with Freedom), so it should be no surprise that you wouldn't see a major shortcut like this.

Minor point: sidekicks actually are set to one level below the level of the mission holder.

I've had an ambush follow me down the elevator as recently as this past week, so the feature definitely still exists.

Quote:Not really much of an exploit, as you can pretty easilly clear the map without using it. I almost always defeat the spawn in the lobby first and allow the timer to start, and yet I usually clear the map and exit with time to spare. No, not total BS. He asked how to complete the mission, not how to exploit something to clear the map.
I think bypassing the timer just reduces to pressure to hurry. And that way, if you need to pause or take a break in the middle of the mission, you can. -
Quote:As others have said, you don't have to kill the looters in the lobby first. However, should you still choose to do so, you generally should be able to take them out before the villain and his/her hencemen get back from the vault. Probably the reason you are having problems is that you're using a Defender. With a lower-damage character, popping a red inspiration or two should speed up your killing enough. The other possiblity is that you're taking too long getting into the bank. Once you see the message "the bank is being robbed!" you need to get into the bank pronto, because the villain will be heading to the vault soon. (although if you get there too fast, you may want to wait a few seconds because the villain may still be near the spawn in the lobby)I've tried: killing the initial looter spawn inside the bank (playing a defender)- while I'm in the middle of this, the villain gets back to the entrance, joins in and crushes me. This sends me to the hospital, with a waypoint to their getaway truck to stop them escaping- except the mission just fails without them coming near it.
The mission shouldn't fail until the villain or one of the looters (easy to spot, they'll be carrying money bags leaking bills) gets to the getaway van. If the mission failed without one of them escaping, something was bugged (did happen to me once). -
Quote:Well, call me stupid, because on occasion I've accepted random SG invites.Yeah they just go down the list and spam invites hoping someone is stupid enough to accept.
If I'm playing an alt on a server where neither I nor my friends have formed a supergroup yet, I will usually accept the first SG invite that gets thrown my way. This is in the hopes that I will luck into gaining access to a base with the basics--transporters, workshop with a vault door. Most of the time, this works out--even if said SG doesn't have a decent base, I often find that they're coalitioned with one or more SGs that do. That's really all I care about when it comes to an SG, everything else is gravy.
I've never had a bad experience from joining a random SG. My biggest and best villain group was a random SG that I inheireted after the guy who randomly invited me left. One of the few SGs I joined that didn't have much to offer was a young group with some really nice members and I enjoiyed helping them earn prestige and get their base up and running.
About the worst thing that's ever happened is that couple of SGs have eventually kicked me for inactivity (If I don't have my own SG on a serever, it's probably one I don't play on too often) But that's no big deal, as I just join the next one that offers. I've never voluntarily quit a SG, though I can do so with the push of a button.
I would never send blind invites for my own SGs, but I don't have anything against anyone who wants to blind invite me. I can always decline or even block the invites. Or I can take a chance and see what they got--I really don't have much to lose. -
Quote:Yeah, Cold Demons are rare on Thron Isle, and depsite what the badge text imiplies, it's not necessary to make the kills in that location. For this badge, I always go to the south west corner of Sharkhead and run up and down the beach below the graveyard. Almost always run into a Hellfrost or two or three each pass. Hordelings in Cap also count.I've been running my 50 scrapper to get as many CoV badges as I can before returning to Hero status.
I have a progress bar for 3 0f 100 Cold Demons on Thorn Isle. I've running around Thorn Isle hitting Succubuses for CoT badge but haven't seen any cold demons (Hellfrosts?)
Any help? -
I have this problem occasionally myself. The solutions offered in this thread--dismissing and resummoning, targetting the pets with a buff, and rezoning --never seem to fix the problem for me. The only thing I find that works is logging out and logging back in with that character.

Quote:It's been that way for me as long as I've been using enchancement storage. Be nice if it was fixed.Hello
I have noticed an oddity, when I right click on an enhancement in the storage bay in our Super Base and click on "Info" nothing pops up.
I have had to move it to my toon to look at the stats on it then move it back if I can't use it.
Has anyone else else run into this issue?
Thank you. -
Quote:I'm sure the testing is over, but everyone has not been switched to the new one. I know because I'm still using the old one and it works just fine (I've actually been meaning to switch, just keep forgetting/procrastinating). Can't comment on whether the aura is supposed to still be rewarded, but I'll check if I get it when I do finally switch (soon, I promise). If the testing is over, and everyone has been switched to the new one (which I think is the case; I don't know, I've been using the new updater since the day it was released), then the aura is no longer available.
Edit: I just upgraded to the new updater and started using it last night. When I checked the costume creator, the Wisps Aura was available, so apparently it is still being rewarded even at this late date. If you didn't get it, definitely bug it. -
This is one of the two I don't have. From what I've seen, the costume parts do look pretty cool, but until I get it and see everything I can't really compare it to my favorite packs. Also, interesting as they are, the Mutant costume parts I've seen don't look like they'd work with many of the character concepts I have, but of course that's just me.
-
I think my favorite may be the Martial Arts pack, not only for Ninja Run, but I also like and use a lot of the costume pieces.
A close 2nd for me would be the Origins pack, mainly because of the auras. There are a lot of really different and neat auras there that fit perfectly with some of my character concepts, and it's also nice to have access to a variety of auras without having to wait for level 30.
Probably the Cyborg pack would be my third choice, the costume pieces have helped with some of my android characters and Self-Destruct is a fun and often useful power to have.
Honestly, though, I don't think there's a single one I regret buying, and I have almost all of them.
