There are a handful of Bob's Big Boy locations in California, but they're all concentrated in the LA area.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Showing my age here I guess. I remember when there were Bob's Big Boy restaurants here in the Bay Area. I loved going there as a kid. Thanks for the memories guys!

    [/ QUOTE ]

Was there a Bob's Big Boy near the Winchester Mystery House? I recalled there was also a Bob's Big Boy in South Lake Tahoe.

    [/ QUOTE ]

That sounds right. I think there's a Flames there now? Also, the one I think I went to more as a kid I think is currently a Coco's.
  2. An era ends...

So long & thank you & Ele very much for being such a wonderful & colorful members of the community!!!

Arwen, what you say about Boston Market is true as far as being something you can make yourself, but I think their point is that you don’t have to make it yourself. I certainly appreciate not having to make real mashed potatoes every time I’m in the mood for them. The other stuff is ok, and handy when you’re pressed for time, but not something I’d look for as a real treat.

    [/ QUOTE ]

True, but I'm kind of a food snob. Sure, I love fast food (probably more than I should) and there are some days that nothing but a Big Mac will cure what ails me. But if I want some mashed potatoes, I'll make the time to fix them. Theirs are probably instant anyway, and instant mashed potatoes are vile.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Not as far as I could tell. I don't care for the instant stuff either. Which is why I go to Boston Market to satisfy my mashed potato cravings. If they're not real, they're close enough. I could go to Marie Callendar's (another home-style restaurant), but their serving sizes are too big and the only time I've seen them offer the mashed potatoes seperately is around Thanksgiving.

Kind of a funny story. Way back when, I worked at the UC Berkeley Faculty Club. Sometimes teh sports teams have dinner at the club. On one occasion that I can recall, the basketball team was scheduled to have dinner & the head chef decided to do something nice. She made a HUGE serving of real mashed potatoes, and went to the extra effort of making them creamy smooth & lump-free. One of the players complained that they tasted funny, that they weren't like his Mom used to make. It turns out what he wanted was instant mashed potatoes... "Worse" yet, he wasn't the only one.

Of course, that meant more for me when I took my club-provided dinner break!

Oh... and sorry if I was being a jack-[censored] about the fast-food burgers guys. Really, what I want to say is that they're so thick on the ground around here, I take them for granted. So I find it interesting to hear how people feel about them when they're a relative rarity. In general, it makes me appreciate the things I take for granted more when I hear people for whom they are a novelty or new experience talk about them. Probably not the burger-chains though...

    Looks can be deceiving.

The only good one is McDonald's.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Really? I think American McDonald's is gross... which is wierd because I love the Canadian McDonald's, and yes, they taste different.

I'd love to try Sonic, just for fun. In'n'Out Burger is one I'd love to try as well. I'd even hit Shoney's for the burger buffet, if they're still doing it. I've never been to a White Castle. I've never tried Jack In the Box.

There are so many places in the States that look so delicious... Boston Market being one, I'd KILL to have one of their sammiches, just to try it.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Sonic and In-N-Out are both fantastic. White Castle is good, too, but their burgers feel more like you're just renting them. They're called "sliders" for a reason.

I've never had Boston Market because it looks like food I can make at home, but I've heard they're not bad. There are no Jack-In-The Boxes near me, though the Cincinnati stations carry commercials for them. I did, however, get to try Jack-In-The-Box when Phantom still lived in Tempe and I went to visit him. They're good stuff.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'm a [censored]' junk food junkie, I love it all.

Something that you get a lot of here in this part of Canada is a lot of Lebanese food. Shawarmas are great. Donairs are awesome too (although strictly speaking their Greek) and a lot of places make the biggest, baddest, garliciest, meatiest, kick-[censored]ness donairs and shawarmas you'll ever have. Lebanese food is the best.

And I gotta say, Lebanese make the best pizza in the world, ever. The Italians may have invented it, but the Lebs perfected it. I'm thinking about learning Arabic just so I can go and hang out at some of the real authentic places and sip coffee and talk politics and religion.

Arabs are awesome, in general. Best people in the world.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Wow. I'm feeling deprived & spoiled all at the same time. Mostly spoiled though.

Liv, I envy you your Lebanese joints, they sound awesome.

I’d be happy to trade for some of the local Jack-In-the Box, I’ve got two within a couple miles of home, four not far off the commute to work, and two of those are close enough to hit for lunch from work. There are four In-N-Outs that I know of and can get to without much difficulty. One near home, two near work, and the last only slightly out of the way on the way to several friends’ places. (It’s also close to a Krispy Kreme if you’re into that.) Also plentiful are McDonald’s, Burger King, Carl’s Junior, and Wendy’s.

Given the ready availability of fast-food burgers, I think you can see why I might be interested in something more… distinctive. [u]Which is why I’m looking forward to giving Redrum/Murder Burger a try.[u] Locally, I’m partial to Kirk’s, Mojo Burger, & St. John’s. A bit further out is a place in the East Bay called Val’s which is good when I’m out that way.

Arwen, what you say about Boston Market is true as far as being something you can make yourself, but I think their point is that you don’t have to make it yourself. I certainly appreciate not having to make real mashed potatoes every time I’m in the mood for them. 6. I'd guess that you already did some research, but in the off chance you didn't here's a link to the Wikipedia entry on Golden Age Superheroes. Take a look through & maybe you'll see something that inspires a name.

I guess it's also potentially useful as a resource as to what names not to use! (At least the one's associated with super-strong, invulnerable flying guys.)
  7. I'd assume it's because Hide allows one to take shortcuts through mobs that other archetypes can't.

Maybe we can do a meet and greet at Murder Burger in Davis one of these weekend?

It's kinda funny...TA, Sassy and I were contemplating doing a MB run really soon (there was some talk about maybe even this weekend, but nothing set in stone yet).

Just let me know which weekend. I can also bring Chewie. Maybe Red Gren will come this time if he is not sick...

  10. Being an issue that's pretty light on the goodies, that's probably a good call, especially if you like surprises.

The only reason I can see to log in is if you'd like to experience the new TF & SF as a non-speed run, but even then you probably aren't seeing the finished product. Oh... there's the finding bugs in the TF/SF too, but I imagine some folks are disinclined to participate due to lost faith in beng able to contribute meaningfully via the beta process.

Hopefully, there are still enough folks with faith in the process to help the devs get a polished & fun product out to the general server population.

Personally, my curiosity was piqued when I saw someone say the SF pwned the TF & then someone else said in the blame thread that the SF was meh (correction: upon re-reading the opinion, I think a more accurate summation would be that they thought it was doody). I may (still) be compelled to investigate.

Sorry Merm. I seem to be doing that a lot lately. It was funnier in my head. I thought I was being blatantly silly.

Also... geeze go into one little meeting & see what I miss!?! Ok... admittedly, I think I'm glad I wasn't here for the blow-by-blow rollout of posts, but wowzers. Did you guys start drinking!?! I hope you at least had the class to drink from a glass. 'Cause you know what I "always" say "The fly-guy does NOT drink from a bottle!"

I've been drinking most of the time. Thanks for asking!

Glass or bottle? I needs to know!?! An "important" decison hangs in the balance!!!

I'd provide the helpful links for newbies, but from your introduction it sounds like those aren't necessary, and I need to jet off to a meeting so... uh... welcome & have fun.

  19. Hrmmm...

This exodus might be a good reason to come out of my cave. I've always been averse to those sites because they seemed to be about vanity, self-centeredness, and self-promotion (to me.) Thanks for shining a new light on it, but... y'know... because I suck at this, I don't know that I'll actually sign up/join.

I lul'd hard. The suit stays with me. Ele and I like to RP.

Ok. Before, I was sad to hear that you're leaving. NOW, I'm utterly destroyed!

Like Sam, I hate to see y'all leave, understand why you're doing, still hate to see you leave, wish you the best, hope to see you around in some other MMO's of mutual interest whatever they may be, and hope that one day you might return because I hate that you're leaving. Still, as much as I might hate that you're leaving, I can't fault you for your reasons even if I don't know the details. I do know this though. Long-time subscribers don't leave for no reason, or on a whim.

I'm making note of the contact info that people are leaving, but admit that more than likely I won't do very well with keeping in touch because I suck like & at that.
  21. Happy Birthday Torroes!

I'm going to a bbq today, so I'll grill one up & eat it in your honor!
