okay 19 people looked at this but no one said anything...doesnt anyone have an ideas about this!?!?!
I will toss a few ideas out off the top o me noggin.
Science - A power belt of testubes with concoctions in it that could do numerous buffs to self and grant temp powers. And an injection gun that will shoot debuff potions at enemies. A potion that has a jeckel/hyde effect, drinking it will grant you a few attack temp powers and makes you larger and gives you +damage to all attacks. When all of your temp powers are exhausted then your size returns to normal, and your +Damage ends. A formula that grants you temporary speed boost, +recharge +recovery.
Technology - Robotic Implants
This would give the hero or villain Super Strength attacks from mechanical hydraulics. It could also allow their arm to have little gadgets come out of it to shoot things. It should have a power called Backup Battery that will recharge 100% endurance that way they dont need stamina. An inherent travel where jetpack wings come out of their back would be cool. Cooler looking than the Raptor Pack though, nice shiney reflective metal looking ones. It could have a power that is always on and cost no endurance that would speed up the recharge time of attacks which would go well with the backup battery. -
LOL Yuri.
Hey I have been thinking about a new halloween event off and on since October. I keep hoping that they do something really cool and new. But they havent, so I just posted a new idea for halloween event 2010. Check it out.
I know you were JK but I think the power would be cool for guys too. Maybe it could be a special woman thing to carry a dustpan though...cuz I want to zip around on a broom, but I dont want to clean up after Forbin cuz word from the ladies is he is a very dirty! I am not sure if that is in the good way or the bad way. -
I really enjoy the Winter Event much more than the Halloween Event. Winter Event has its own special zone. There are lots of interactive things to do, hunt present boxes, give gifts, play games like the Ski Slopes. It has tons of great aspects.
The Halloween Event on the other hand has much less going on. Here are some Ideas that I would like to see in future Halloween Events.
1. Most Importantly, a new zone!
A place with a creepy vibe, like a town with a big haunted mansion, a cool cemetary with crypts and statues and old ornate stones, and a town neighborhood to Trick or Treat in with houses that have scary decorations. NPCs in this zone could walk around, but be clickable like contacts, to tell you about the history of the haunted mansion, or other things going on in the town. It would be a friendly zone for heroes and villains to enter.
2. Hero and Villain activities. Mischeivous activities could be performed by the villains. They would be able to run around and TP houses, smash pumpkins, scare NPCs, knock over tombstones in the cemetary, etc. while heroes would have to run around and clean up the houses and set out new jack-o-lanterns, reverse the damage, etc. Villains are trying to do all this bad stuff, and heroes are trying to do good stuff. The entire time there would be tracking of statistics, how many bad things happened, vs how many good things happened. And at the end of the event a special award (a badge, or a temp power, or a token for a random recipe drop) could be given to the winners (heroes vs villains) but there would not be any combat. And perhaps even a runner up (less valueble) reward could be given to the side that loses.
Another activity for both heros and villains could be bobbing for apples to give you a special buff power that lasts for 30 min of game time. But the activity would have a random success/failure rate so that you do not get a buff everytime, you could try again 1 minute later.
3. The Haunted Mansion Mystery. Go inside the mansion, talk to NPCs, click on non-glowing objects to find clues and open secret passages. Put pieces of the puzzle together to help you figure out what the clickable objects are, and where to find them. Riddles and objects could be spread out across the entire town, clues could include NPCs spreading rumors, books, statues, and objects inside the mansion, gravestones in the cemetary, hidden objects inside the crypt, a carving on a really old creepy tree, etc. Use all of the clues to enter a final room and confront the ghost AV that is haunting the place. This mystery could even change each year (i know it probably wouldnt but its a thought). Also there could be good and bad ghosts inside the mansion, trying to help you, or stop you. A ghost might randomly appear by a wall to show you there is a hidden passage there. Or maybe some bloody footprints lead you into a certain room and you have to find something there. Bad ghosts could attack you, or hit you with a special power that makes some clues dissappear, or inacessable. Maybe a bad ghost is sealing a door and you have to defeat him to be able to go in the next room to get the next clue. Then once he respawns the door closes again. There are many things that could be done in this mansion.
4. Halloween Candy. You can get candy from trick or treating, these special inspirations could have numerous kinds of buffs and abilities similar to the winter event ones, but with interesting differences. Some candies will have 2 or 3 buffs (damage and accuracy) (heal and defense) etc. but the more they have the less percentage they help. And the more candies you eat at once raises a chance to make you sick and reverse the effects debuffing you slightly.
Or a different candy idea would be new Halloween Salvage. In real life when you go trick or treating you always get something at each house. Maybe it is one piece of candy, maybe it is a handfull, maybe it is kettle corn or a caramel apple. So the idea I have is introduce a lot more kinds of event salvage that is like different kinds of candy, and you can use this salvage to purchase things the same way that candy canes work for winter event. That way you always get something good at every door. Then you could use this salvage to get random rolls like Costume Salvage pieces (the four salvage pieces from the old halloween events), recipes, enhancements, permanent costume pieces, etc. But since you get one or more pieces at every door, it takes a lot of candy to purchase things.
5. New enemies. With the winter event we got the Winter Horde enemies. Why cant we get some kind of new enemies like a special GM or something. The zone could have a giant cornfield, with a creepy scarecrow in it. And when something special happens the scarecrow could come to life and run around the town. You have to recieve a special Temp Power to weaken the scarecrow in order to defeat him.
The something special to awaken the scarecrow could be like a certain number of NPCs walking into the cornfield that do not return. And there could be certain things that you can do to make NPCs go into the field. A hero could tell them not to go into the field, that there is something scary in there taking people. but the rebelious nature of the NPC would just make them want to go because they were told not to. Or they want to prove that there is nothing in the field. Villains on the other hand could frighten NPCs so that they run away into the field. (just an idea i know it sounds kinda tough to make it happen).
6. A Costume Party. After a certain hour people could gather Inside a creepy old gothic cathedral. There could be a bunch of NPCs wearing costumes. It would just be a cool looking place to go hang out.
Out of all of these ideas I mostly want a new Halloween Zone, and the Haunted House Mystery. But if any of these other ideas are a possibility I would love to see them played out on halloween. I know this is a lot to do so I wouldnt expect it for this year. But if it could be done for next year it would be very cool! -
I am a fan of Magic origins and I think our Halloween event needs lots of new stuff. This would be a great Temp power, and it could also be implemented as Magic Pool power.
I have a thread about a new Magic Wand/Wizard Staff Powerset. And this would go with it very nicely. Please have a look at it!
Great Idea! -
When the invention system suggested being able to "make powers" I was thinking about it being more like this. I was very dissapointed when I found out that we werent actually "creating" anything, we were merely purchasing a temp power with salvage.
My only concern is, if we were able to "create" powers, the devs would have to create lots of animations, lots of weapons, lots of powers, and then figure out a way that we can combine them into our own. I am hoping that the power customization system that is on its way will be similar to this.
Dont get me wrong, i LOVE this idea and i am dying to see something new and cool in this game. I believe that anything good does not come easy, so no matter how hard it is to do this, it would definately be worth doing. Good Idea. -
Thanks Bookkeeper_Jay, I am very happy that people are starting to back me up on this. But I would like to know more about what you think. The people that dislike the idea have lots to say about it. So if you like it, tell me what you like the most about it.
Also I have posted a new thread about other Origin Specific Powersets. If you like or dislike this post, you might have some input for powerset ideas of other origins. Go there and type up an idea for a Technology Robot Powerset, or a Mad Scientist Powerset! Thanks. -

Like have an NPC follow you, paparazzi-like, or save someone from non-combat threats...
[/ QUOTE ]
Having more NPC activities would be really nice. Like when you see villains spraying grafitti on the walls, you should be able to clean the grafitti up afterwards. When you rescue a person you should be able to interact with them by asking them questions, like asking for a reward, or asking if they need an escort to the hospital, ask for their phone number if you want to do something social with them. Maybe not like a romantic date, but like a date for friends or fun. Ask the person you rescue for a kiss. Interactivity is always fun.
And I know what you mean about more stuff to do in the game. I often get very bored of the constant click, kill, click, kill, repetative stuff in the game. When the Midnight Club was added, there is that little badge hunt where you have to go find all of the clickable objects, they dont glow, or give you any clues they are there, you just had to find them. I thought that was very fun and mysterious.
I would like to be able to go into stores, bars, casinos, etc. and do stuff in there. Like if you could play the games inside the casino. Possibly gamble away all of your influence, or win loads of it. You could click on a slot machine, and a window could pop up (like Wentworths, or the Mission Architect) with interactive buttons to set your bet amount. Winning or losing could trigger emotes like Grief or Cheer if you win or lose.
Think about all of the stuff that you can do in GTA4, like play pool, darts, bowling, go out on dates etc. Some of these things would be nice to see in the game. Of course it would not be as "raunchy" as GTA is. But there are tons of things that a hero could do when he gets bored of hero work.
I can see how some of these ideas might be very difficult, but I have said it many times. Nothing great is done easily. The more that is added to this game, the better.
Be it Super Sims, Casino Games, hunting non-glowing Clickable Objects, or random NPCs following you taking pictures, if it can be done, it should be done.
Good Idea MrAmazing! -
I recently posted a thread called "Magic Wand & Wizard Staff Ranged Powersets". The discussion lead to the idea that it should be a new Unlockable Epic Archtype (EAT).
I am posting this thread because I want to see more ideas about other Origin Specific Powersets. Please read my Magic Wand & Wizard Staff Ranged Powersets post to fully understand what is going on here.
Think about the 5 different origins:
Magic
Mutant
Natural
Science
Technology
Think about what would be the coolest new powerset for heroes and villains of this origin. This would require a Primary and Secondary set, and possibly an additional Pool set. Think about ways that these powersets would be unlocked. Like completing new Origin Specific Storyarcs, or collecting new badges, or completing a combination of arcs by certain origin contacts.
These Origin Specific Powersets could be a very interesting addition to the COX world.
Lets throw some ideas around and let the Devs know what we want to see in the future for our Heroes and Villains!!!!! -
Yeah it might be possible someday to get power customization. But I assume that would just be some minor things, like being able to change the color, like the auras. But if we were ever to get to the point where we could choose a source, and be able to shoot a blast from a wand, a spellbook, or a magical amulet, then that would be great.
But yes I still want to see a set that mixes elements, and magic would be a great way to do that.
As an epic archtype I think it would be the best way to introduce this power. And yes I do want to see a new origin specific set for the other 4 origins. But I would rather keep talk on those to a minimum please. If you have an idea for one of those sets I would love to see a new thread on it.
I agree Blacier, Origin related powers would be a cool evolution to the game and I totally support anything new and innovative in this game. There have been many nice additions in this game, but no matter how many new missions and zones are added, my characters are still the same. I could make new characters sure, but then their powers would still be the same as the old ones. I hope they start adding a lot more powersets to the game, including 5 origin specific E.A.T.s with new power pools to match them.
Earning wands is a very cool idea, but the whole thing about the epic archtypes is that you already have to earn them. Like the Kheldian sets and the Arachnos sets. You earn them by getting a 50. An origin specific set, would be earned in a similar way, but with a set of missions, or badges, that pertain to that origin. Like perhaps they could make an entirely new Midnighter Arc, as I suggested above, or perhaps they could introduce some new badges for completing the first magic contact Azuria's Arc, then another magic arc in Steel Canyon, then finally a third arc in Croatoa. I am very much open for new and different ideas on how these would be earned. -
Samuel_Tow, thank you, yes that post is much better. I agree that my attitude was rotten. I apologize for that. I do not mean to censor anyones opinion. I only want to prevent further redundancy in this thread. If a point or an opinion has been mentioned 2 or 3 times, then consider it noted. At the least just say you agree with whatever statement someone else made, then proceed with something else. I dont want people to have to read through a page or multiple pages of the same comments over and over.
In regards to your statement:
[ QUOTE ]
You say forget Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings, but the simple fact is that, without them, you really have very little ground left
[/ QUOTE ]
This could not be further from the truth. There is a lot of ground for wand and staff weilding characters. In comics you have many characters like Skeletor from He-Man, who carries a staff with a rams skull on it, Blue Devil holds some kind of trident staff, Trigon carries a staff as well. Zatara, Zatanna, and Mandrake the Magician are comic characters that sometimes use a magic wand. Also Bubonicus, Doctor Strange, and the Wand of Watoomb, Molocule Man, Margali Szardos, Sister Grimm, Possessor of the Runestaff, etc. There are also characters like the vizier Jaffar from Prince of Persia, and Jafar from Alladin who weild a staff. Sailor Moon uses a Crescent Moon Wand. Maleficent also uses a staff. Hellstorm has a magical trident. There is a Cosmic Divining Rod in Green Lantern.
I am not a comic buff or anything like that. I found all of this by doing a little research. I am sure there are probably some better examples out there. But there are many characters out there that use wands, staffs, rods, tridents, and the like, that shoot some kind of blast or energy or have some sort of special power. -
Yeah I am going to post a revised list of ideas since everyone keeps saying "whiney whine Harry Potter blah blah". That is getting very annoying so please cool it with the Harry Potter stuff. This would be a lot different than Harry Potter, as I have stated many times. Please shut it! I hate repeating myself.
[ QUOTE ]
No Harry Potter in my CoX please.
[/ QUOTE ]
Atheism, If you aren't going to say something useful, then please button that bottom lip of yours back over your eyes. This is not a Harry Potter thread.
I am sorry if you guys dislike Harry Potter, but Magic is a part of this game whether you like it or not. So just deal with it already!
Thanks for the post Lancek. Regarding your post:
[ QUOTE ]
Make it slightly more generic so the Starmen can use it too.
[/ QUOTE ]
...this is still a MAGIC ranged set, so the powers will not be "genericized". In my opinion that is one of the few things wrong with this game. Too many current powers are already very generic, for lack of a better word. I understand that you want to be able to take these powersets and use them in very different ways, so keeping it simple is important in that respect. But this idea is the Yin to the genericized powers Yang. I am hoping that the devs take this idea into consideration as an unlockable epic archtype, as well as implement other origin specific powersets. This of course would be discussed in a different thread because I am concerned about the magic origin only because of its minority stature. So in summation, your starman rod could have a similar weapon customization model. I would like to have a rod of some sort. But as for the powers, I do not want to see any "generic" content in this set. Thanks for the post.
The revised version will be posted when I get the drawings done. I plan on taking out the Latin for you Potter haters...your welcome I guess. And I am also going to look into the "balance" issues that some of you feel may be a problem. Also I will be illustrating some concepts for wand ideas so you can get an idea about how diverse this could be.
-
Thanks a lot Blacier, it is about time I got some positive feedback on this. Good suggestion as well, this is just an idea guys, no reason to tear it to pieces.
I will continue to back this idea and say that Magic is a part of this game wether you like it or not. There are magic origins, magic enemies, and magic organizations and storylines like the Midnighters. There is nothing wrong with building on that with a new powerset like this. If you have some kind of personal pet peev against magic, single hand wands, or any wands in general, then keep it to yourself please. Comparing this to Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings is very narrow minded, and it only illustrates the conformity that I want to get away from. This has a lot of possibilities if you broaden your horizons a little. There could be many different types of wands, not just your little Potter sticks. You could have an athame (magic knife) wand, bone wand, tech or tech/magic combo wand, energy wands, metal wands, wooden wands, so please stop trying to turn this into Harry Potter.
And LISAR I appreciate you reading this but that quote really does nothing for this discussion. If you like or dislike the idea would at least be appreciated.
And thank you again for reading/posting. Even the negative stuff. But please lets not be redundant. There is constructive criticism, then there is just whining, dont be a whiner. If you dont like something in my idea, then state what you dislike, why you dislike it, and what you think would be better.
P.S. You are forgetting the main reasons why I want this powerset. 1. A new ranged weapon, cuz there arent many compared to melee weapons. 2. A magical weapon, cuz there arent many compared to tech or natural weapons. Keep that in mind. -
Okay, so I promised some sketches but I haven't had any time to do them. But as soon as I do, I will post them right away!
-
I am meeting with the villains in a dark alley for an early purchase of the goods. I brought a briefcase full of newpaper clippings rubber banded together with 20 dollar bills on top of them. And they will bring the box of... "ah yes here it is...pleasure doing business with you" as I walk out opening the much anticipated expansion I reach my hand in and pull out the glorious "WHAT....NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!" it was a copy of WoW. "I shall get you villains if it is the last thing I do!"
-
Well personally I mix and match things like this a lot. We discussed its applications, and the primary would be good for blasters, but the secondary would not be. So in that aspect blasters would have to mix and match by force. As for defenders, that could be completely up to them. Maybe they like the secondary but not the primary or vice versa. But if this becomes an EAT like the Kheldian sets. Then it would probably be set up as its own AT with a set origin. I don't really care either way I just think it would be great to see this in the game. What people choose to do with it is up to them.
-
Ad_Astra, first lets make one thing very clear. I did not call the devs lazy, yes they have made lots of new stuff. My praise to the booster pack, and the MA supports that fact. What I was saying, is your idea is a lazy way of getting around what I want to achieve with this powerset, which is something new, and change.
Jade Dragon, you bring up some interesting ideas. But I dont think people will understand what I am talking about unless I draw it out. Thankfully I have the skill to do that. So I will produce a few drawings with some different staff weapon customization options illustrating how you could use the same powerset for both wands and staffs. This will take a couple days so dont expect it right away. -
Yeah that is a lot of good stuff you guys have in mind. But as for the Summon Dragon, its appeal is that it uses a new skeleton. It breaks that barrier. Summoning a storm is something we already see in the game. These new mechanics are exactly what I want out of this. Something that changes things up! As for the balance issue, we have talked about that, now there is beating a dead horse, and beating a bloody spot in the ground where a horse used to be. Like i have said over and over again, this is a concept that would be up to the devs to decide how to make it work. That being said these ideas are not set in stone, and your new ideas for this set are good. The reason I like mine better is because it brings something new to the game. There is already a storm summon in the game.
The idea about taking pets that already exist (veteran pets) is a pretty good idea also. But the problem with that is; I am tired of seeing the same things recycled in this game and applied to something else. It is boring, and lazy on behalf of development. If i wanted to summon a storm I would play a storm troller. If I wanted a Gnome pet I would use my veteran pet power for the redcap.
So leave the balance issue to the devs, and strive for something new!
I really like the idea of making this a new unlockable set. It could be like the Kheld sets in the unlockable aspect. And it wouldnt have to be limited to 9 power choices either. If they wanted to expand the story of the Midnight Squad and tie this to it somehow that would be great! Good Idea Textilian. I would love to see this as an unlockable EAT. That way it can keep its unique abilities. That is what im interested in anyway, change. -
Thanks Bureaucrat, but in rebuttle, the reason that I chose those powers is primarily because it is new and different. That is the basis of its appeal. Maybe the secondary would be better suited for a Defender primary or something else. But I would like one toon to be able to use both sets. I could take some nerfing on the abilities as well, like the dragon could only breathe fire. That would be fine. The same goes to the team support powers like Riigenatus Emoveil, you could take away the team +Regen, as long as the foe -Regen stayed.
-
Thanks Textilian, that makes me feel a lot better about it. Yes I understand the purpose of critique more than the average individual (im an art school graduate). That is why I posted it on here instead of trying to pitch it directly to the devs. I just expected more positive stuff I guess. Like I said i am glad it is being talked about, whether it is positive or negative, as long as it is genuine. So thank you all for your opinions!
There are reasons this needs a new skeleton, aside from the original Magic Origin concept; (if that concept is changed due to conceptual limiting, which I still stand firm on, then the former does not apply), and that reason is "It needs to be done sometime". It has to start somewhere. If this game is going to expand and become greater, new skeletons need to be made. I went to school with 3D animation majors at a private tech school. I have also used 3D Studio Max before. So I understand it is tough. But they can't lean on that excuse forever. Change and evolution is an integral part of any system that means to advance.
And I do not want to get into a discussion about the following, but I felt compelled to mention, I am not being bias toward a Magic Origin set. I would also like to see a tech based set, all about robotics or something. Or a science powerset, based on chemical formulas, biological experimentation, etc. I just prefer magic personally, there should be good powersets like this for every origin if possible. I just want to keep this one strictly magical because there is a lot of everything else. Magic is a minority in my opinion. There is a new found popularity thanks to the Magic Booster. But that is mostly a costume thing, it needs powers to back it up.
P.S. I was just thinking about monstrous hats the other day when on my magician toon I created a "dragon" sg costume. -
[ QUOTE ]
What else in the game required new skeletons? Nothing is springing to mind.
[/ QUOTE ]
Novas are completely unlike the regular hero skeleton. The monstrous legs were modified. Lusca and Sally are different as well. -
My appologies Memphis, I really do feel like this idea is good, and seems like everyone else that is posting is just trying to poke holes in it. Despite the fact that a lot of people I have talked to in game have said it sounds cool. So I am a bit heated about it. I am all for having fun but I want to keep this thread on topic. I spent a lot of time the other day researching, and concepting, sprouting ideas and bringing them to fruition. I want serious feedback please, be it negative or positive. As long as it is genuine.
-
yes the dragons would require a new skeleton, how is that any different than other things that have been put in the game that require a new skeleton. It wasn't a big deal then, and it is not a big deal now.
-
Well I really feel like you guys are just posting negative stuff on here to be griefers...lets not become hippocrits shall we. There are already weapons with inuendo in the game. what about "My sword is bigger than your sword" or "be careful with that outfit, you might make my gun go off". Don't try to give me the red-herring and make this powerset debate about something else.
-
"argue the length of their staff" WHAT?!? What is there to argue about?
-
Those are some pretty good arguements. I can see your point on using psuedo-latin. So I guess english names would suffice.
But I stand my ground on the mixed powersets. Balance is what you make of the sets. Like my concept for the Toggle Blast; this is an amazing idea. If I hadn't thought of it myself I would be on some other guys thread praising him. So now that I have blown my own horn on that one; the power would still have its limits. You would not be able to use it all of the time, because it would drain your endurance while using it, also while it is on it would disable all of your other abilities like rest, so you wouldnt be able to turn it on, hit rest, and keep your end up.
And if you wanted to get really anal about it, you could have a few magic wands a tech staff (Like the nemisis staff) and some other stuff. Both wand lengths would be one-handed. Think of blackwand vs. the Nemesis Staff, the Nem Staff is much longer, but it is still only a one handed weapon.
