[ QUOTE ]
"Pax, you know as well as I do there's only one superhero on the island - and that it's not me."
[/ QUOTE ]
Pax didn't even skip a beat in replying, "We also remember seeing you take a fireball to the back without so much as a scratch. Most people would consider that fairly superpowered, at least on the Earth we came from."
[ QUOTE ]
Although the ones around here are well, more dragon like.
[/ QUOTE ]
Pax gave a quiet chuckle at that one. "In our experience, that puts you in the minority. Every single one of the ones we've met so far have been like her", Pax commented with a casual gesture at Sarah. "We've yet to meet one that fits the more traditional human idea of a dragon. Well, western dragon at least. We met one that was fairly close to a Chinese dragon once. Or is that Japanese, we can never remember which is which."
[ QUOTE ]
"You go girl!" Adam splirted out.
[/ QUOTE ]
"As we told the bard here, a moment's thought before you speak will save you a lot of trouble in the future", Pax told him in a slightly exasperated tone. Inwardly she wondered why he hadn't tried hitting on her yet - he seemed eager enough with all of the other females they'd run across so far.
[ QUOTE ]
"Just what are the odds that two beings from other worlds happen to appear in the middle of nowhere at the same time and know each other."
[/ QUOTE ]
Pax just grinned at him, resisting the urge to wag a finger in a 'tut-tut' sort of fashion. "Actually, when we're involved? Surprisingly high. We seem to be drawn toward significant events or people we know, so when a place and time has both? We're practically gauranteed to pop up at some point. But don't let that stop you, it's a perfectly good theory for most other people."
[ QUOTE ]
"Pax I bet your the logical thinking type the "BRAINS" of what ever group your in."
[/ QUOTE ]
Pax gave him an almost dumbfounded look before bursting into wild laughter, such that she almost fell right over from it. "...not really, no...", she finally managed, after calming down a bit. -
[ QUOTE ]
I don't think the city has such an attitude. I'd say it's implicit in accepting a license that the hero is committing himself or herself (or itself) to at least the same code of conduct that the police operate under and preferably a more stringent one from a moral perspective.
[/ QUOTE ]
According to the game background, specifically the Citizen Crime Fighting Act, this is indeed exactly how heroes are expected to behave if they expect to keep their license. -
Pax smiled slightly as Sarah reverted to the form she remembered from the last time the two had met. "There, that's a little more familiar. Not to mention far smaller, we never were fond of being towered over."
[ QUOTE ]
"I'm sorry if I scared you, but that's no reason for insults like that, you racist little Vulcan creep. Honestly, the nerve of some people."
[/ QUOTE ]
"Yeah, songs are nice and all but a word of advice from people who learned it the hard way - a few times over, even. Take half a second to think before opening your mouth, it'll save you a lot of trouble in the long run." The Kheldian turned back to Sarah. "And for the record, he's not a Vulcan. He's an Elf. Though admittedly, depending on the specific example of either they do sometimes tend to be interchangable almost."
[ QUOTE ]
"Ah now speaking of stories. I have a bad feeling some higherpower is pulling strings around here. Like Adam said all this outragosousness at once seems more odd to be by chance."
[/ QUOTE ]
"What, superpowered aliens aren't high enough for you?", Pax asked with a laugh, gesturing to herself and Sarah. Plus, with this world's apparent level of technology, that gun the Tsaiv was carrying probably qualified as such too. -
[ QUOTE ]
"Oh! Right! Yeah, I was. I guess you could call it a kind of transformation magic. Just about everyone on the island can do this, so it's easy to forget. Sorry."
[/ QUOTE ]
"Hmm. Yes, the mysterious Island we still haven't managed to find", Pax replied, apparently considering that enough explanation for the dragon's rather different appearance from the last time they saw each other. Of course, with the Kheldian being a shapeshifter herself, it probably was in her mind at least. "Anyway, what brings you here? Just having fun playing the part of the giant monster everyone's terrified of?", she went on. -
[ QUOTE ]
"People do that often where you come from?"
[/ QUOTE ]
Isabel smiled, resisting the urge to laugh. "Just out of curiosity, does the name Rularuu mean anything to you?"
[ QUOTE ]
If not though, and der Reichsmann really is no longer a threat to anyone...well, then I'd say you've nothing to worry about."
[/ QUOTE ]
Isabel sighed at that. "Welp, we already told you he's not. Up to you if you want to take our word for it. At least send a scouting party or something before launching an all out invasion, geeze." Since they'd already established there wasn't anything more she had to convince him other than her word, she wasn't really sure what else she could add. -
[ QUOTE ]
"Pax!" the Tornado's face lit up with excitement, and she sprang forward almost instantly. She shoved her nose into the woman's arms with a big smile in fond greeting, tail awag, apparently expecting a hug in return, "It's been forever! Where've you been? How've you been? Find anything cool? Weird? Gross?"
[/ QUOTE ]
She'd probably be rather disappointed then, as Pax did no such thing. Instead, the Kheldian developed a somewhat perplexed expression, tilting her head to one side as she tried to work out where (and when) this dragon knew her from. As well as if it'd happened for her yet. "Umm.... do we know you?", she asked, obviously confused.
Looking closer, she noted the dragon's distinctive colour scheme - which she'd seen before. "Wait. Sarah, right? Man, it has been forever. Weren't you smaller, last time we saw you?" -
(( Oh look, Devious has a dragon character. Why am I not surprised in the slightest?
))
[ QUOTE ]
"Oh, and Pax, the things in this forest make werwolves look like cute little puppies."
[/ QUOTE ]
"Oh really...?", Pax replied, clearly not believing him. She almost considered going Dwarf form just for shock value, but decided against it in favor of simply following along with the rest of them, until something grabbed her attention.
That something of course was the sound of singing coming quietly from a nearby tree. She looked around, but saw nothing. She'd keep her guard up though, no bird she knew of sang like that. Someone else was out here, and likely didn't want them to know. "You know, you really shouldn't eat those things", she commented offhandedly to the bard, referring to the leaf he was chewing on.
Of course, then something else showed up to distract her. Namely, the dragon. Pax seemed oddly calm in its presence - perhaps she'd met one before? Or just overconfident, maybe. Either way, she walked right up to it and gave a friendly wave. Well, just outside of easy stomping/mauling/eating/whatever range, anyway. She might be confident but she wasn't stupid enough to not give herself enough room to get away on the off chance it proved hostile. "Hiya", she greeted the huge creature cheerfully. Certainly more cheerfully than most would when faced with a colossal dragon, at least. -
So very tempted to add 'This is a type R character' or some such to all my bios. Shame it'd put half of them over the character limit.
-
I'm still here at least! Though that may or may not be a good thing
-
[ QUOTE ]
Mainly because my kind are dying out already.
[/ QUOTE ]
"...Are they now?", Pax replied, with the sort of grin that suggested she knew something he didn't and wasn't going to tell. "Righto then, whatever you say", she laughed, before turning and walking away with the obvious intent of following Nadda into the forest.
[ QUOTE ]
"Lusha forest..... it doesn't just have your average lions and bears so to speak."
[/ QUOTE ]
"Pssh. Lions and bears are easy. Try werewolves and chaos demons, then we might think about reconsidering", Pax shot back to him before gently lifting off the ground and flying after the Tsaiv, faint wisps of energy trailing after her. The rest of what he said, she apparently ignored. -
[ QUOTE ]
"Another dimension?" the Nadpráporèík queried with a puzzled expression, the blue glow dimming from her eye until it had disappeared, both oculae now meshing with one another.
[/ QUOTE ]
"Well, the last people of unknown species we met turned out to be from an alternate dimension, so it's a perfectly sensible question we think. Meh, nevermind then", Pax answered, before not quite laughing at the bard's next question.
[ QUOTE ]
"Wonder what making love to someone like that would be like... nevermind forget I said that."
[/ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
"And you, don't even think about it. Having a mating with a human? That is disgusting...!"
[/ QUOTE ]
"Disgusting to you, perhaps. We humans find it perfectly enjoyable. A matter of differing viewpoints, we suppose." With that she went over to another of Raven's little group and waved a hand in front of the dazed-looking man's face. He didn't even seem to notice her. "What'd you do to these guys?", she wondered aloud.
[ QUOTE ]
"Unless it was some kind of ploy to get into my pants, if that's the case I'm sorry to inform you that I don't do that on the first date."
[/ QUOTE ]
"Nor do we, so stop dreaming", Pax said flatly, half to Adam and half to the bard. She didn't know or particularly care if either of them had actually been entertaining such thoughts regarding her, but it's always good to lay down the ground rules early.
[ QUOTE ]
"I will be sure to differentiate to his human and your human-with-pointy-ears from here. With luck, it will be cause for war."
[/ QUOTE ]
"In several timelines, it was...", Pax mused absently. "Not precisely here or now, but still." -
[ QUOTE ]
I wonder what this expansion will break.
[/ QUOTE ]
Can't be any worse than the bugs they apparently got in I14 beta. I heard at one point they managed to break levelling entirely - you'd go to a trainer to get new powers and stuff and it simply wouldn't let you. -
[ QUOTE ]
"I'm ready to consider believing you two. So, what did you want to say to me...?"
[/ QUOTE ]
Isabel raised an eyebrow at the man taking the big chair, so to speak. Was he actually the Sovereign and merely pretending before, or was he just filling in for his absent leader, she wondered silently to herself. "Nothing that I haven't already said, no", she replied eventually. "I think Zeo here was the one with things to say. Nice office, by the way." -
[ QUOTE ]
"Now what should I do? Target practice? Is boring."
[/ QUOTE ]
"If you're really desperate, we'll go a few rounds with you later", Pax answered, a faint hint of amusement in her voice.
[ QUOTE ]
This left the face of the Tsaiv woman still semi-covered, but in such a sloppy fashion that the most prominent details were easy to see.
[/ QUOTE ]
Pax looked over at her, noting all the important details that were visible from her angle. "Hmm... Not a species we've seen before", she commented. "Are you from another dimension or something, by chance?" -
(( Gah, this is what I get for being lazy. ))
[ QUOTE ]
"Acunim is your present location, date six point twenty-two, year 2236, SSR standard." she nevertheless informed the newly arrived woman, "I am not sure of local equivalence..."
[/ QUOTE ]
"Nor are we, and we're not familiar with that system", the woman replied, sounding mildly irritated. Not at anyone in particular, though.
[ QUOTE ]
"We? Are you talking about yourself in the plural? Your not royalty are you?"
[/ QUOTE ]
"No, we're not. Though occasionaly people mistake us for such. It's either annoying or useful, depending on the situation. And what's wrong with our voice?", she added to the woman with the gun, but got no answer as she was already leaving.
[ QUOTE ]
"My apologies M'lady but I live by my urges." With that he picked up his lute swung a travelers bag on his back and walked out.
[/ QUOTE ]
"So do we, usually", she replied before trailing after him, watching as he put all of them to sleep without apparent effort. "Hmm. Nice trick. We're Paxtera, by the way", she added to the group in general, but mostly to Adam because he was the one who asked. "Shorten it to just Pax if you feel like, everyone else seems to." -
[ QUOTE ]
"Whoa, a lady who appears from thin air! Now I've officially seen everything! Wouldn't you say uh, angry lady with the really big gun?"
[/ QUOTE ]
"You shouldn't say things like that. Every time we've said it in the past, we've immediately found something new and even more ridiculous", came again that strangely echoing voice from the woman on the ground. She sat up slowly and looked around, obviously a little dazed by her trip through whatever that portal had been.
Finally standing up (though still a little wobbly), she came over to Adam. "Apologies for our rather rude entrance. Could you perhaps tell us where and when we are?" -
[ QUOTE ]
"At the moment, it is." Wolfgang answered Isabel neutrally, "Until we know better, you are still potentially hostile elements. I passed your request along, however."
[/ QUOTE ]
"Potentially hostile? All those guys we beat up and we're only potentially hostile?", Isabel asked in return, a faint trace of amusement in her voice. Admittedly, every one of the ones she'd beaten up would be fine - she'd obviously not meant to kill them, just get them out of their way - but still, she had to question the man's logic on that one.
"Fine, whatever. Guess I'll tag along with you lot instead then if that offer's still open", she said eventually, before moving to follow them away.
[ QUOTE ]
"One moment please," Vlasta's voice greeted them form the large leather office chair beyond the desk, its back presently turned, "I'll be with you right away..."
[/ QUOTE ]
Vlasta could take all the moments he felt like taking, for all Isabel cared. She was too busy looking at the pictures on the walls - mostly the one of the shipyard. -
(( I think it's more that the setting appears to have no relation to the CoH world at all, so people don't have any reason for any of their characters to be so far from home. That said, what the hell... ))
As if the commotion of the last few moments wasn't enough, the empty space a bit to the unknown woman's right suddenly turned in on itself, forming into a vortex of sorts from which an odd golden light glowed. Oddly, though the thing had apparent depth when looked into, it didn't seem to extend backwards as it should.
However they would only get a few seconds to wonder at that if indeed they were going to at all, because with a soft pop the space snapped back into place, disgorging a single person in an unceremonious heap onto the ground in front of it before fading away entirely. The person in question was clearly female and by all appearances human, save for the odd pale blue aura that hung in the air around her. "Ugh... One day, we'll manage to get the landing right and the whole universe will end...", she muttered to herself in an oddly echoing voice, like two of her were speaking at once and weren't quite in sync. Hopefully she was joking about the end of the universe bit.
(( And a screenshot, so you know what she looks like. )) -
"Not without difficulty, but last I checked it was possible", Isabel replied to Wolfgang's comment about manufactured memories. The next comment however came as something of a surprise. "....what?", she asked, before it properly sank in. "How'd they get here, if you don't mind my asking? And are you sure they're actually from our world?" She didn't bother to assert that they were lying, since it'd only be her word against theirs anyway.
[ QUOTE ]
Wolfgang told Isabel, "You're welcome to come with if you like..."
[/ QUOTE ]
Isabel thought about it for a moment before replying, "No thanks. I'd rather meet these 'natives' of yours, if that's not too much to ask." Clearly she believed them to either be from a different world entirely, or they were simply lying. Or possibly they'd been brainwashed somehow, who knows. -
[ QUOTE ]
umm... why is ninjitsu the only stalker set with hide?
[/ QUOTE ]
Because ninjutsu is the only stalker exclusive set. All the others use the tank/brute/scrapper versions. -
I could actually see that one happening for comedy, if our devs weren't as nice as they are
-
[ QUOTE ]
"never mind, I should just invent a GPS turnip."
[/ QUOTE ]
"I'd buy one, for the comedy value if nothing else", Ildela laughed, before finally remembering she'd won more money a while ago and going over to collect it.
[ QUOTE ]
"Don't worry, they're not chemically explosive in nature, nor dealing with excessive power sources."
[/ QUOTE ]
Coming back over with her winnings in hand, Ildela couldn't help but laugh again. "Since when does that mean they can't explode?", she asked with a grin. "I've seen normal boxes of files and wooden desks explode before, and you're claiming that a science experiment won't? In this city?" -
Isabel paused for a moment, thinking. "Nope, don't think so. Not from here anyway, if you sent us back to our world we could get proof for you but really, I doubt you sending us back is anywhere near likely. So you've just got our word to go on, unless you feel like taking him up on the mindreading thing."
She just hoped if they did take him up on it, they didn't care to do the same to her. Isabel had had her mind read a few times before - she even volunteered for it once, fairly soon after whatever event had lead to her appearing out of nowhere in the middle of Paragon. No luck there though, to most it was as if those memories simply weren't there. To the more experienced or powerful ones it was as though something was blocking them. In the latter case their inevitable attempts to get through that barrier had been rather painful, which wasn't an experience she cared to have again if she could avoid it. -
[ QUOTE ]
"Now to begin my evil experiment, muha muha muhaahahahahahahaha!" Doc Von Krayzee paused and held up an index finger. "Does anyone know if there's a Fresh and Save [tm] around here?"
[/ QUOTE ]
"Why does it always have to be an evil experiment...", Ildela mused, more to herself than to Von Krayzee. "And there might be one up near the Arena, I think there's a heap of shops up there."
[ QUOTE ]
the Night Widow sighed, "Maybe my shrink is right."
[/ QUOTE ]
Despite that not really being addressed to her, Ildela replied anyway. "Probably", she answered. "Shrinks usually are. Especially the ones around here that have powers of their own." -
[ QUOTE ]
"Well I don't know the address off the top of my head! It's not like I'm on friendly terms with those guys! Yeesh... Anyway, here ya go..."
[/ QUOTE ]
Cassie chuckled quietly at the man's excuse, but didn't seem bothered by it. Her robot on the other hand did its best to monitor the transmissions from that device just in case. She noted the comm unit beeping softly at her, the usual signal for one of the protectors having finished its task. surely enough, after a few moments the bot in question appeared in the doorway before ambling over to join the others.
"I think I've got about all I'm gonna get here without trashing the place", Cassie said over the comm. The unspoken question of course, being did they want her to trash the place. She'd rather not, but she wasn't leading this little group so she'd defer to higher authority if needed.
---------------
[ QUOTE ]
"Oh, I hope he ain't dead!" he shouted, "I am SO gonna enjoy killin' him slow..."
With that, Nukus started spraying bullets at the heroes.
[/ QUOTE ]
The wounded man would indeed not be dead, if Pax had anything to say about it. As a peacebringer she wasn't much of a healer, but she did have the ability to heal others in much the same way as she healed herself when needed, by use of her energy. Admittedly it wasn't that good on other people but it should be enough to keep the man alive until he could be given real medical attention.
Seriously, it must be world ambush day or something, she though to herself, shifting to her White Dwarf form in a burst of energy. Turning and facing the man she roared a challenge at him in some indecipherable language before disappearing with the flash of a teleport. Reappearing right above him, she attempted to knock him down and pin him with the Dwarf's sheer weight. Unless he had some fairly exceptional reflexes or some other way of knocking aside multiple tons of Dwarf, he wouldn't be going anywhere.
