Why? What's happening on October 21st?

    [/ QUOTE ]

I think that's the releaser of "Warhammer: The Age of Dissapointment".

    [ QUOTE ]
I've been trying to play my Defender more like a Controller, which was never gonna work.

    [/ QUOTE ]

True, it's a well known fact that if you're going to solo with a Defender, you play them like a Blaster. It's possible to solo with Defenders, but they are hardly optimal for it, even a confirmed soloist like myself knows that. You need to reel yourself back and take on lesser targets. You just don't have the damage output for big targets.

I have to disagree with the statement made that this game is geared toward teaming, it isn't, but several of the ATs certainly are and I think Defender is one of the most team-focussed ATs there is. The game itself is one of the best there is at giving a good challenge to both solo and team players, with the instances scaling the way they do. (In, for example, WoW, putting together a team to do most quests just means you mow through them without a thought, they don't scale to a team level unless they can't be done without a team.)

Is this how Superman would behave

    [/ QUOTE ]

It's a well known fact that Superman is a d**k, and has done much, much worse in his time.

If any Moderator wants to move it that's fine - would've done it myself but I couldn't figure out how to

    [/ QUOTE ]

The only way you can do it would be to delete the post and report the contents. Moving threads is an admin level operation.
  3. That's way too long. Restart the download. Generally it will pick up where it left off, not start from scratch.

You may also want to check your supplier's policy on large downloads during peak periods. Your bandwidth may be getting throttled.
  4. [ QUOTE ]
Obviously, that is the part that needs to be considered, should the idea be taken up by development. Not how 'small' the development times/costs will be.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Sorry, but how much development time is taken up, and how the existing or new mechanisms for handling payments to NC can be used to get the money together from this system are exactly the kind of thing that needs to be considered when putting together a scheme like this.

Fundamentally, you are proposing a gimmick designed to provoke (and I'm using that world entirely neutrally) people into forking over money to a charity. You have to persuade a company which has just laid off a load of staff, that this is a great idea and will have publicity benefits, and will not cost them too much time and resource.

It's probably better to focus on one or two charities, because I think otherwise you're going to fall into the trap of it costing more to run the scheme than the charities actually receive from it.

It's all very well putting fluffy posts up saying "wouldn't it be great if we could support charity X in game," but if you want everyone to just say yes or no, then I'd suggest another forum. People who put successful suggestions here, tend to think it through and come up with a workable plan.

I'm sorry if you feel insulted, but as someone who works for a software company, you should know better than to make unthinking remarks about development costs. Everything has to be justified, even if it's for a charity.

    AFK!

    [ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]
That doesn't affect me. I have quite literally refused to seriously roleplay with people I had got to know quite well because they thought it was fine to wander off and do the ironing during RP sessions. I have got very angry with my other half because she insisted that she could roleplay live, and in tells with someone else at the same time (not technically AFK, but it gives the same result).

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yea i can see that having half your role playing squad AFK would break the emersion.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Immersion-smershion... I just think it's flaming rude!
  6. [ QUOTE ]
I do see issues to be honest. The biggest is out leveling your own content, but in a way that's a non issue because debt is so minimal and levelling is so fast, we do that all the time anyway.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yes, you do, but you don't actually do it that fast once you get into the 30s. That used to be the area where there was least content, which was a problem, but it's thickened out a lot.

The issue you are ignoring is that people will simply not see any content, they will be too busy maxising their xp by doing the highest level missions they can, either with level 50 friends, or with farmers happy to have easy space filling.

And, as anecdotal evidence from AoC would suggest, you have the added issue of low levels hanging about in PI begging to be power-levelled.
  7. [ QUOTE ]
Development-wise, I'd imagine it would be a tiny thing,

    [/ QUOTE ]

Ah yes, the cry of the unthinking player. "It won't take much effort!"

    So, how is this implemented?
    Is it a skin change?
Is it a model of a ribbon?

If it's a skin change, is it a new overlay pattern, which means someone can't have a normal pattern with this over it? Is it just a chest detail?

If it's a model, then how is it added to the costume? Does it take up the Chest Detail slot?

From a practical standpoint, I'd suggest this was implemented in the same way as the Wedding Pack and the upcoming Cyborg pack. Charge a nominal fee for it, and donate some reasonable percentage of that to a charity, perhaps one you pick when you purchase the pack, perhaps a rotating on over time, perhaps just go for the charity that NCEU are already associated with, 'Draw The World,' not that they have ribbons.

My cynical side suggests that this would not result in huge sales, but you never know.

    AFK!

    [ QUOTE ]
Depends if i know them or not, if i do i dont care how many AFK's they have.

    [/ QUOTE ]

That doesn't affect me. I have quite literally refused to seriously roleplay with people I had got to know quite well because they thought it was fine to wander off and do the ironing during RP sessions. I have got very angry with my other half because she insisted that she could roleplay live, and in tells with someone else at the same time (not technically AFK, but it gives the same result).

I actually find that I get more annoyed if friends basically take advantage of you by afking during missions, thinking you won't mind because you're a friend.

Mind you, this is why I solo a lot, if I really do want to stop in the middle of a mission and chat (or go to the toilet, or stop to make food, or wander off down the shops), I'm not putting anyone else out while I do it.
  9. Just about all the villain missions are more humerous than the hero ones. About all we get are the in-jokes, and most of those are in the radio missions.
  10. [ QUOTE ]
If a level 10 could make their way to Peregrine Island and still be in with a fighting chance against the white mobs they come across, a lot of the sense of "scary place for the big boys" is taken away.

    [/ QUOTE ]

More to play Devil's Advocate than for any desire to see this implemented...

It is a bit illogical that the city is divided into chunks with increasing levels of threat, but actually growing civilian populations. (Talos Island is teaming with peddies, far more than you see wandering around Atlas Park.) With the GM code in place, the threat level remains constant, but as you gain level, the amount of XP you get in the higher level regions goes up. Of course, with the GM code in place, why not simply put level 50 mobs everywhere, and you might actually increase the population in some of the mid-range zones...
  11. [ QUOTE ]
If you feel strongly enough about it maybe you can raise the the profile of the next similar event in your area?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Thing is, men rarely ever do. Being ill is a terribly private thing. We don't have mental problems, we don't have odd pains, then we keel over into our wheatyflakes one morning with some heart condition that should have been diagnosed three years earlier.

Last thing men want to talk about is prostate cancer. I know I sure as hell don't, so I'm gonna stop now and go do some housework.
  12. Well, I was going to say something about one of my characters (FFM should be able to guess which) supporting this, but after that little tirade, I don't think there seems much point.
  13. It's funny, but I can't actually get it to fit the tune. Ho hum.
  14. [ QUOTE ]
But I work from a different angle to this.

To me I look at something knowing there will ALWAYS be a down side.

The first question I ask myself is: If I can achieve my goal and eliminate the downsides, will it be worth it?
If the answers yet, I take the concept, look at the downside and see if I can address that. If I can address the problems then we're on a winner.

So, in my mind, this idea works.

    [/ QUOTE ]

The problems that have been pointed out by FFM and Feralyn are based on the psychology of players, especially MMO players, even more especially casual MMO players coming in from other games. They are used to MMOs such as WoW/LotRO/whatever where the game concept revolves around hitting level cap ASAP and then doing end-game stuff. And they are presented with a way of PLing their characters... they are going to take it, and then find that there's nothing to do except farm. I figure they could probably be in and out inside of the one month subs you get with the game.

Now, the downside of the existing system that you are trying to get around is one thing, but you are creating an alternative with just as big, if not a bigger downside, and claiming that it still works.

Fundamentally, the existing system isn't broken, and doesn't really need fixing. You are looking at it from a point of view of helping casual players, but actually, it was designed to help friends play together, even if one gets a bit ahead on the levlling stakes.

Alternatively, Champions Online will, apparently, allow you to SK up to 5 other players. So we'll see how it works, or doesn't, in the future. (Though the explanation of how it works in AoC suggests that it will just be a PLer's Paradise.)

I hope my summary meets your requirements for intelligent reply. It's been a while since I've been up this early and I'm not entirely awake yet.
  15. Hmm... War Crow didn't have a costume with a cape and a superhero look until he got a fifth slot and I decided to give him a 'formal' superhero costume. He uses it on Vanguard missions mostly.

I tend to agree with Merrow on this one, lots of non-traditional (or at least non-Golden/Silver Age) costumes about.
  16. Y'know, I've kind of changed my mind about this one, but mostly on a 'that's not fair' basis having dropped back into WoW today.

Over there in the "most popular MMO in the world" it's real easy to send items to yourself, or money. Instant transfer via mail. You can instant transfer between accounts, by actually walking up to someone and trading, but as an anti-gold selling measure, transfers's by mail take an hour.

Her in CoX it's almost exactly the opposite. Since you can't send anything via mail, if you're solo you cannot swap things within your account, but you can hand over as much Inf or enhancements as you like to other players.

So, WoW has a practical limitation designed to discourage gold sellers, and CoH has a badly out-dated system, relatively easily circumvented, for economy control that doesn't apply any more anyway. Stuff that, give us easy intra-account transfers.
  17. Well, roll on I13 and see what we get in that.

    Shields (Power)

Not sure what this is doing in suggestions, it seems to be a lot of questions. If you go look in the General Forum, you'll find a thread called 'Shield Sweepstake' which should give you most of the answers. Reading any of the developer comments on Shields would answer some of them.

    [ QUOTE ]
How exactly will this work though? Will we get a whole new cossie slot for shields? Will it be a whole new power set where you only use a Shield?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Shields is a defensive powerset for Tanks/Scrappers/Brutes/etc. It will work with some other weapon-based sets for attack, but not all. You can have broadsword and shield, but not katana and shield.

    [ QUOTE ]
Will we be able to choose its colors, detail etc?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Probably something similar to the customisation available for weapon-based attack sets. I would guess you could stick an emblem on it; some sub or superset of the chest detail emblems would be likely.
  19. @Alphane: Aye, PnP is Pen and Paper.

@mereman: I actually do use Mid's Planner to check values on enhancement placement before I consider slotting, but I don;t generally worry about it unless I manage to get my hands on a set item which looks interesting and I want to see what I can tweak without upsetting the normal enc bonus levels too much.

You'll also get used to some of the posters liking to rag on the older ones for actually knowing things. Sad, but true.

    [/ QUOTE ]

And you'll get use to some spending more time on the boards posting than actually playing the game and don't know as much as they think they know.. Sad, but true.

    [/ QUOTE ]

It's true, you will. Of course, the more experienced ones don't talk about what they don't know about.

You seem to be spending about as much time as me here, Blenus, so clearly you can't be talking about me, unless you're also referring to yourself.

Must admit, I haven't spent much time in game today. I, personally, wish I could spend even less time in it, but being unemployed has the unfortunate side effect of giving you too much spare time.

    There is no "Cartel".

    [/ QUOTE ]Indeed, there's just a clique.

I still don't know if I'm in it or not though.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'd say there's the clique, and then there's you

    [/ QUOTE ]

Actually, there's one clique per member of the Cartel.
  22. This page is the user entry for me, and has links to all the characters.

I'm currently working on adding some images.

When I get the characters done, I'll put some of the old fiction in there as well. It was great to see some of Zortel's old fiction up there (especially the famous Turkey Baster story) and I think it might be nice to get some of the old stuff I wrote up, possibly ammended so they make a bit more sense to people who weren't roleplaying at the time.
  23. Basically, it's a character which has been twinked out with the (current) perfect build, all the right sets, all the right enhancements.

The term originally comes from PnP where you have many, many more stats to play with allowing you to do some serious maths to calculate exactly where to spend your time improving your character to the point where it fulfills its role to the best of its mathematically perfect ability.
  24. You'll also get used to some of the posters liking to rag on the older ones for actually knowing things. Sad, but true.

Anyway, Firefly, do make suggestions, please, without them we would not get some of the improvements to game playability we do get. However, I'd suggest (a suggestion, for the suggestion forum ) that you gain a little experience and maybe take time to look through the Commonly Suggested Things thread pinned at the top.

Then people like me won't come over all patronising and nasty at you, and we'll turn into the lovable souls we really are when you get to know us.
  25. That's the theory, but it does, of course, depend on the Fear effect. Don't forget while you're spamming BFs, the other guy is probably trying his hardest to spam Fear.

A BF says it does:[ QUOTE ]
-10 Magnitude protection against Hold, Sleep, Stun, and Immobilize; -5 Magnitude protection against Knockback, Knockup, Fear, and Confuse; 50% resistance to Taunt and Placate; 25% resistance to Repel

    [/ QUOTE ]

So, it's much more ffective against some things than others.
