Castle has already stated that the PvE elements in the PvP zones will get harder because of these changes, so it looks like your hopes are going unanswered.
[/ QUOTE ]
Ah... so the amount of griefing by teleporting people into mobs should increase then? Lovelly.
[ QUOTE ]
Not sure if he includes Mission instances accessed from PvP zones in that statement or its just zonal PvE content.
[/ QUOTE ]
I think the instances are classed as PvE, it's the getting to them that's PvP. That said, I'm not longer massively bothered since the amount of real PvE content in the late 30s has rizen to the point where you don't need to farm Warburg PvE missions for XP anymore. -

Techbot Alpha has been nominated as October's Villain, do we have a hero?

Liberty Girl?

I sent Pious a PM, but I'll post here for justification purposes.
I went with Shadowe. I was seriously thinks of going with Libby, but then I realised that maybe it would be better to go there next month, after Dan has fixed all the bugs in the page. -
[ QUOTE ]
Essentially ... I think you've extrapolated too far here, Ravenswing. Updating the existing PvP game in City of heroes does not mean moving a full resource focus to PvP, nor would it mean turning PvP into 'end game' for the entire community.
[/ QUOTE ]
Sorry, GR, but you're barking up the wrong tree, in the wrong forest, on the wrong planet.
My post was not responding to anything that NCNC have recently announced, or done, regarding PvP. I was responding to the specific poster to whom I was replying regarding a specific post he made.
He did not ask for PvP to be updated, he asked for it to become something that CoX "was renowned for." In order to achieve that, you're going to have to do a lot more work than has currently been announced, including changing the reward system in the PvP Zones, and marketing CoX (very heavily) as a PvP game. You would need to put a large amount of effort into the PvP side of the game. So much that it would detract from the PvE side. It would also attract a class of player I find personally offensive, and probably result in a fairly large defetion to CO.
Given that you made the mistake of assuming I was anti-PvP and was commenting on the recent announcements, and you were wrongI actually agree with a goodly bit of the remainder of your post. There is no reason why PvP enhancements cannot also be of benefit to PvE... it's just that it isn't generally the case.
[ QUOTE ]
Simply take a look at what ArenaNet have done with Guild Wars in recent months: they have taken a range of skills in the game and separated them into PvP and PvE versions. Take the skill into a PvP zone and it uses one set of values, take it into a PvE zone and it uses the other. They did it precisely because by doing so they could balance skills appropriately for PvE enjoyment and balance those same skills differently for PvP, as needed. Any rebalancing for PvP does not necessarily require that the balance change has an impact on PvE (or as large an impact). In most cases the differences are subtle, however in others they can be quite drastic.
[/ QUOTE ]
Well, all I can say there is that the highly responsive NCNC team are obviously listening better than Cryptic did, seeing as posts suggesting that kind of behaviour were suggested over two years ago on these forums, and we were told at the time that they couldn't/wouldn't do it.
Considering all the PvE elements in PvP zones, I'd hope they plan to 'rebalance' the mobs in those zones as well. Otherwise there are going to be some very unhappy players. That rebalancing will need to be done manually, of course, since the mob powers are independent of the PC ones... -
Something to bear in mind for next year, the state of Rhode Island (where Paragon City is supposed to be) actually has an official Hero's Day: [ QUOTE ]
The second Thursday in May shall annually be set apart as a day to be known as "Rhode Island Hero's Day." The day is to be observed by the general assembly in recognition of a Rhode Island resident who has saved a human life and/or performed an act of heroism which merits any recognition determined by joint resolution of the general assembly.
[/ QUOTE ] Source
More for the roleplayers than anyone, but I thought it'd be cool to realise that, even in the real world, people are thinking of those who save lives in the Paragon City area. -
Just for purposes of not nominating someone again, is there anywhere I can see who's been done before? I started into this late.
Oh, and glad to see that the front page is still getting updated from time to time. -
[ QUOTE ]
it would break the feel of the game as Incarnates seem very rare/powerful things.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah, currently they are, but they were once very common. In fact, that was probably how most heroes were formed back in days long past (the way I read it anyway).
If you go through some of the Midnighter arcs, especially Origins of Power, you start realising that the Origins are far from static (in theory anyway) and have changed over time. It's unlikely that the Science or Technology origins even existed back in the Age of Heroes, and the Mutant origin has only existed since the 60s, which means that the origins can change even within a "heroic cycle." Incarnates could come back...
I'm not saying whether that's good or bad, because it depends entirely on how they justify it through plot, and what mechanics it actually introduces into the game. None of which we've seen. There's some chance, however, that if we're going to see it, I15 could well be a prime target, since the dev team are muttering things about that one being a great big huge plot Issue... and I15 could well coincide with CO launching. -
[ QUOTE ]
To be honest it is unlikely. Most of the maps in the game are semi random based on the computer placing tile sets in a random but pre-determined fashion to avoid rooms with no doors, corridors with no openings etc.
[/ QUOTE ]
Shows how much you're paying attention.
[ QUOTE ]
A few are tailor made like freak olympics
[/ QUOTE ]
The maps are all pre-laid out with random(-ish) mob and glowey placements. I think they are constructed from 'tiles,' but not randomly by the game engine.
[ QUOTE ]
but it would be a lot of work for the devs to create a map editor complicated enough to appeal to the total design freaks but easy enough to use that the less talented amongst us can cope with.
[/ QUOTE ]
Oh yeah... in spades. As an example, the executable for the neverwinter Nights module editor is several times the size of the actual game which ran the modules.
[ QUOTE ]
I find the base editor simple
[/ QUOTE ]
And remember that the base editor does not allow for changes in level, or multiple floors, or doorways, or interior partitions, or windows.... -
Particularly the shaded version looks good to me.

They could just bomb Galaxy City every 30 minutes after about 8pm. Some nights it seems like it...

[ QUOTE ]
If you actually read what I said, I didnt say make it the be all and end all of the game.
[/ QUOTE ]
No, you said, and I'll quote it again:[ QUOTE ]
The thing that could possibly bring people in would be if the PVP was worked on to the extent that it was renowned for being excellent, unlike now which is the opposite, sadly.
[/ QUOTE ]
To create something in this game which would be "renowned for excellence" would require that the focus of the game shifted from gameplay content and PvE experience, to end-game content and PvP experience. Essentially, the whole game focus would need to shift toward PvP.
[ QUOTE ]
Also, how would having good PVP destroy the current player base? If you dont like PVP, you dont go into the zones, its kind of simple to understand.
[/ QUOTE ]
But development would move off PvE and onto PvP. Balance issues would resolve in favour of PvP. More unnecessary nerfs. No new content, unless it's in PvP zones.
Result, the existing playerbase, which is largely PvE-oriented, and only here because of the constant content updates and community, slowly (or rapidly) leaves.
[ QUOTE ]
And I disagree about bringing in new people as some games thrive with both good PVE and PVP.
[/ QUOTE ]
How many of those started out as pure PvE games?
And how many of them are WoW? -
[ QUOTE ]
The thing that could possibly bring people in would be if the PVP was worked on to the extent that it was renowned for being excellent, unlike now which is the opposite, sadly. Even then, PVP is not everybodys thing.
[/ QUOTE ]
This game started without any PvP. Making PvP the be-all and end-all of this game would destroy the playerbase it has and would be highly unlikely to attract anyone new. -
[ QUOTE ]
I found this quote:
[ QUOTE ]
"We certainly have huge plans, plans that go over the next five to ten years, for the City of Heroes franchise."
[/ QUOTE ] here
I think that tells us a great deal about how they view this particular franchise: It's their core product, well respected, loved by the fans and unique in MMOs (to date)
[/ QUOTE ]
I would adjust that to one of their core products, but yeah. That was kind of what I was getting at when this thread started. -
Everyone bug reported this, of course?
Doesn't surprise me if it is bugged. What surprises me is that anyone is using the in-game email system. -
[ QUOTE ]
Yup, Barbarian, as it was used before Conan was invented, is basically a synonym for forgeiner.
[/ QUOTE ]
One who does not speak Greek, to be exact. The Greeks used to think that all other languages sounded like "ba ba ba", and anyone who didn't speak Greak was clearly uncivilised.
And from this we get a lot of our culture. Explains a lot, don't it?
[ QUOTE ]
As far as the cimmerarians are concered, the heroes and villains are barbarians, since they aren't Roman.
[/ QUOTE ]
The Romans are barbarians, they don't speak Greek.
I think the Romans were a bit more specific about it than the Greeks. They actually knew that not everyone outside the Empire wasn't the same, amorphous blob of non-citizen. They could tell you which kind of barbarian thug was banging on the gates. (Not that they would call them thugs, that one's Indian and much later.) Plus, the Romans tended to work on the theory that if you acted like a Roman, you would get some leeway. The Greeks would just look at you and giggle. -
[ QUOTE ]
they already stated that they want to make the mission creator complete or not at all, so if the enemy creator is in, i don't think they are gonna leave out the mission map creator.
[/ QUOTE ]
This is another one of those, "yes, and the resources required to achieve it will be significant enough to delay the Architect into 2010," conversations. -
[ QUOTE ]
What is annoying is Zone based hunts, of which there are a fair few in COH between 1-15.
[/ QUOTE ]
There are a fair few at higher levels, and they just get worse. "Oh, we need some information, just go out and beat up 60 Carnies, that'll sort it." Often followed by "They didn't know? Beat up another 60."
[ QUOTE ]
Of course, I'd rather get those missions removed and replaced with story missions (or at least made so that you don't have to hunt in a specific zone), than stop the Rikti raids.
[/ QUOTE ]
Amen.
Although... to some people, 8 man street hunting teams is levelling. -
*shrugs*
I have no idea what they plan to do with it and I'm certainly not going to defend the idea of allowing PCs Statesman-level powers since I've said it was a stupid idea in the past - and been roundly flamed for it, actually. -
I got the distinct impression that you would select one of the (insert big number) existing maps. Which is disappointing but far less likely to produce maps which don't function properly.

50 plus views, and no replies?

Only just noticed it, sorry. I'll take a proper look shortly, I'm still trying to get my head into Sunday.
I warn you, I get wound up by obvious mistakes and stuff, so you might not want me reading it if it's 'unedited.' However, the big red guy seems quite interesting so I'll take a peek and try to curb my baser instincts... when I'm awake.
PS. I was well over 45 views on a plot piece over on the RP forum before anyone replied, and my Nitoichi story is at 64 views and no replied, so don't take it too hard. -
Right, well this is going to be a "what I like" comment, because I think a lot of this kind of thing is personal opinion and preference and such. So, basically, make of this what you will.
Under 'normal' circumstances, I would say I prefer your test pieces. I'm a fan of fairly detailed artwork, I like relatively conservatively drawn comics.
However, I also like the artwork to fit into the style of the comic and the slightly darker, kind of 'urban' style you did the strip in just works. I don't necessarily think you need to fiddle with it. -
The Legend system was, IIRC, scrapped in favour of Inventions.
I think PRAF thinks that the Incarnate origin might be 'coming back.' Something to do with the Midnighters and Orobouros (or however you spell it).
When? I'd hazard a guess at I15 at the absolute earliest. -
[ QUOTE ]
This is not about joe the beat cop on patrol. This is about superheroes and villains. Normal humans should not be in the picture except as people who need to be rescued.

So, we're scrapping any Natural who isn't an alien, and the Technology origin?
