I get the feeling that they would if they could, but they can't. I don't know why not, because it doesn't really make sense to me, but it also seems logical that, if it could be done, it would have been done already, that's all.
  2. Just for reference, I did do what's suggested in the linked thread (which is basically to set the file where the character list is stored to read-only) and I haven't had any crashes on logout-and-back-in since.

Of course, they didn't happen all the time anyway, so I don't really know if this is fixed, but so far so good.

I put this down to a great extent to leaders being able to see their party member's quests and making sure everyone gets a mission ticked off the list

    [/ QUOTE ]

Hate to say this, but I doubt that's the reason, seeing as exactly the same is currently true of WoW, and LotRO.

    [ QUOTE ]
As far as I'm concerned, LoTROs was there from day one, I came late to the party.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Possibly true, but irrelevent. By that time the majority of players had given it up as a bad job. If no one advertises on it, you can't find teams and it's useless.

    [ QUOTE ]
I can't stress how stupidly dumbed down they've made it compared to WoW & LoTRO's systems; logging into the game is more difficult than joining a team.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Okay, yes, that would be a help. Your average game user appears to have the problem solving ability of a decapitated stupid fish, who did a course in stupid at the university of not very bright, stupidville.
  4. [ QUOTE ]
CoH has the great advantage of being able to see what quests party-members have and be able to set the active mission

    [/ QUOTE ]

That tells you what a team are doing now, not what they plan to do, plus there's a 90% chance that the mission title is going to meaningless to someone looking anyway.

The reason Carni & I are banging on about the WAR LFT system is it does seem to work

    [/ QUOTE ]

Begging pardon, but the reason it works is that it was there from day one. LotROs was definately retro-fitted, I'm guessing that WoW's was also. It's too late for CoX, because the playerbase already thinks of the LFT/M system as a lost cause.

That 30 day requirement is going to be a bit of a problem for me

well assuming you are offline for more than 12 hours a day you can have a badge every 60s days

    I REALLY like this

I mean... REALLY REALLY like this

Yes, but GG never actually sleeps... or eats, or anything else.

You're being pretty pedantic yourself Ravens

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Well, no, but whatever.

Anyway, yes, it does sound like a good system, though it also sounds pretty much the same as all the other LFM systems out there (Looking for Member) aside from the fact that it seems like the team leader doesn't get to filter people joining (could be wrong, not played WAR, no intention to try).

Fact is, LFM systems don't get used any more than LFT systems do. There's a perfectly adequate LFM system on LotRO, actually a very good one. However, what people actually do is scream on Broadcast for members instead.
  7. I believe that Masterminds find Group Fly fairly useful...

I think this is at least the second time this has been suggested this month. It's probably about the 9 billionth time since the sliders were put in.

We all want it. The fact we don't have it would seem to indicate that there is some specific and fundamental reason why we can't do it. Repeatedly asking for it is not going to change that fundamental.

Nor of course is me posting that again going to stop the next person asking for the same thing in two weeks.

But the system we have is pretty rubbish

    [/ QUOTE ]

I didn't say it couldn't be better, I said you'd be hard pressed to get examples from other games which would improve it.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Sugar and myself have already posted an example : WARs Open Party system.

Edit : Carbifax, I like it. Makes me sound like a pasta-based snack food.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Are you being alarmingly pedantic today Carni? Or is it just a general thing?

'Hard pressed' does not mean 'impossible.' Well done, you've found one example in one game where a sub-component of the LFT system could be added giving an improvement.

PS. Typos can produce such glorious results. I corrected it in the original, but you lot are posting fast.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I didn't say it couldn't be better, I said you'd be hard pressed to get examples from other games which would improve it. LFT systems are almost universally rubbish, and are almost universally not used by players.

    @Sugar Rush:[ QUOTE ]
unlike the broadcast spam which lots of people used successfully until they killed it in favour of this.

    [/ QUOTE ]

You mean they killed the LFG channel, right? They put it back because people still refused to use the LFT system and they just switched to yelling on Broadcast instead.

Nitoichi crouched in the rubble in the courtyard, surveying for new targets. She could feel Annette trying to surface and see what was going on, but she was having none of that, this was too much fun.

There! What was that? Big thing, red and black, seemed to be heavily armoured and causing those girls trouble. They looked like Knives... but not. Well, whatever.

Ni ran, turning her swords over so that the longer edges pointed down. She took off in a long, high leap which turned into a dive as she brough the pair of energy blades down on the first of the powersuited figures she came across.

    12:06:25

(( Edit: Grr, I swore I posted this before Z posted hers. Just thought it'd be amusing if Annette, who was worried she might have hurt one of Richard's Knife friends, was actually helping them. ))
  12. That's one of those things everyone wants. I'm hoping to fabricate some and make a fortune.
  13. Frankly, I doubt you'll see many screenshots, because team search is a universally derided concept the (MMO) world over.

WoW has one nice facility, which is that you can state that you are attempting to find a team for specific instances/raids/etc, but the way it is actually implemented sucks.

Of course, there are improvements which could be made, but if we're being honest, what's really needed is for people to learn to use the system they have rather than just yelling on broadcast. That's the case for every single MMO I've played in.
  14. Thanks. That looks cool and will definatey make life easier for some of my characters.
  15. [ QUOTE ]
Then lo and behold - you can save/load costumes. Well, we're halfway there. You've got to love the devs for being ahead of the curve

    [/ QUOTE ]

Sorry, I've been in the boondocks for a few days (that backwater, PoS town of London) and I must've missed something.

    What's this about?

I like to earn my experience not get babysat through a game, if I wanted that I would play WoW.

    [/ QUOTE ]

You'd play WoW, or almost any other MMO currently out there. It's Rest XP system, just about everything has them. I haven't checked WAR, but I'd imagine it's in there.

Funny thing was, I remember being told by people that levelling in CoH was too easy a long, long time ago. All the other games have been trying their hardest to catch up with CoH in terms of levelling speed.

I must admit that I don't understand the reasoning behind this change. I wasn't aware that high-speed levelling to reach end-game content was something we really needed in CoX. Perhaps NCNC know something about Issue 15 that we don't. (Correction: they do know something about I15 we don't, but... you get the picture, I hope.)
  17. 12:04:01
Annette blinked in the smoke, looking around. There were bodies. Women in greenish jumpsuits decked out in swords, knives, that kind of thing. Most of them were bloodied and lying still. One was winding back her arm to throw a shuriken.

Nitoichi ignored the throwing star, rushing forward, arms extending, enrgy blades driving into the woman's chest and then whipping apart with a spray of blood...

    12:04:15

(( Still don't really have time to get into this. Bit miffed, but there you go. ))
  18. Gotta say, I'm not in the best position to run with this, and my brain's not really in roleplay. I think Annette has let Ni out. I'll try to keep up, but if I fall away, assume Ni is probably getting a little over-zealous in cutting down the numbers of ambushing Knives.
  19. (( Catching up a little. ))

    12:00:45

Annette stepped off the train at Skyway City after her shift at the Well, she had changed into her battle suit back at the shop, and was tying her hair back as she arrived. She pushed her comm-unit earpiece into her ear and heard BODI's voice, just as she saw smoke rising from the general direction of Unity Plaza. Annette gasped.

Nitoichi jumped the rail at the station and ran full pelt for the towers.

    12:02:00

She spotted the first group of targets, women with stealth systems waiting for non-combatants to exit the building. Ni's heightened senses saw them easily and she dived in, pale blue blades of energy flashing as they cut at the women.
  20. Good one! I should've thought of that.
  21. I can only think of two:

Willpower, give it something to deal with alphas and a self-heal. I'd happily lose the tier 8/9 powers for those.
  22. I think, to be fair, so are the devs, but it's a rather old engine at this point.
  23. I have to admit, I think I'd have at least started hacking. I don't generally succumb to Scrapperlock, but that's just too appealing. I'd drop a lot of insps and wade in, all those tightly-packed mobs... glorious amounts of regen.
  24. [ QUOTE ]
I´ve done meshes for FF who used that kind of animation for thrown object, so it can´t be that difficult.

    [/ QUOTE ]

And, of course, FF uses exactly the same game engine as CoH...

The problem is 'weapon customisation.' It's exactly the same issue that stops spines being customisable.

The 'weapon', in this case the shield, can have its shape, size, colour, yadda, changed as much as you like, because the customisation is held in a costume slot on the character.

The graphics for the flight and impact portion of the attack, however, are handled as an animation effect on the target, which (currently) has no way of having the customisation data passed to it as part of the attack. If they did pass that kind of data to the target, currently the effects are 'baked' into the animation file for that kind of attack, which would mean replicating the animation file for every single possible variation of shield. That is (1) a lot of work, and (2) a maintainance nightmare.

And just on a practical point, there are bound to be shield models which do not look like a round shield. Anyone trying to throw a tower shield, or one of those barn-door riots shields would be laughed at copiously by every villain in the neighbourhood.
  25. [ QUOTE ]
But you can use the same people

    [/ QUOTE ]

No, you can't, as Lost Ninja pointed out. That particular 'exploit' is enormously easy to code against and just wouldn't happen. What you would get is people complaining they had lost several hundred thousand Prestige on the merger because they didn't read the merge dialogue properly. (Of course, two smaller SGs merging would lose nothing, which is as it should be.)
