    Ni's Blog

I set one up on Blogger.

    See what you think: http://nitoichisblog.blogspot.com/

Might, but then I'd have to set it up... I'll look into it.

    They're Alive!!

Well, I'll freely admit that if I were to wake up a 19-year-old, stunningly gorgeous teenage girl with fantastic martial arts skills, I wouldn't exactly be thinking I got a bad deal, particularly if I got a blonde, superpowered girlfriend and buckets of money to go with it.

    But then I am mad.

Which is kind of funny, since they specifically allow them when some nice company is using them for advertising...

And then there's the point that half the people on there are probably fictional (in the sense of being a con) anyway.

    Ni's Blog

I've started a page on the Union Wiki as a blog page for Ni. The explanation is up there.

It's somewhat interactive. If anyone fancies leaving comments from 'fans', or even from their characters, please feel free to edit the page, adding comments in the sections provided below each dated entry.

Meh, if it works it could be fun. If it doesn't it was worth a try.

I do that IRL if I think someone hasn't considered all the possibilities, or just has a lousy argument. I'm not the Devil's Advocate, he's my trainee.

    They're Alive!!

    [ QUOTE ]
Have you ever found that, during RP, your chars seem to do stuff that you would never ever ever, not in a zillion years, do yourself?

    [/ QUOTE ]

That, really, goes without saying. If they don't then you're not roleplaying, you're playing yourself with superpowers (or spells, or a big sword, or whatever).

    [ QUOTE ]
Am I possessed? Am I going loopy? Am I possibly suffering from MPD?

    [/ QUOTE ]

    No. Yes. Probably.

    [ QUOTE ]
Doesn't anyone else ever experience this with their chars?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Oh, of course. I think any reasonable roleplay 'suffers' from this. The only people who don't are the 'it's me with superpowers' crowd.

I'm not sure how you view roleplaying, but I see two basic styles: method actors and actors. Aisla, she's a method actor. She 'becomes' the character, so she tries to think the way the character does and uses that to react in a roleplay situation. Me, I'm an actor. If determine what my character is going to do based on what I know of their persoanlity and history, and then act accordingly.

I'm not sure which should be more susceptible to their characters running off and doing weird things, but, let's see...

Jason Caine talks so much better than I do it's insane. I've sat there looking at stuff he's said sometimes and think 'how the hell did I type that?' Of course, he's also far more sure of himself than I am. He actually can chat up women, I can't. etc.

Annette is another prime case in point. What's she doing with Libby? Velvet managed to go all that time with various girls throwing themselves at her, but she was into guys so, no luck. Annette was designed to be similar, but no, she ends up shacking up with Libby. What's that all about?

I recall an interview Anne MacCaffrey gave where she pointed outt hat she doesn't usually know what's going to happen in her stories until it does. She has a plot, but she can't guarantee that the characters are going to follow it, and as an author, I know I have the same kind of thing happen to some of my characters.

Now, to look at it from the other side, another author I saw interviewed was asked if his characters got away from him at times and his answer was, "no, they do as they're bloody well told."

    Server Merges?

    [ QUOTE ]
As previously stated I'd like a system where there are Crossover zones

    [/ QUOTE ]

That would seem like an excellent way to handle PvP Zones, but the technical difficulties would be... interesting. Most of the obvious ones (name conflicts) have ways around them (appending a server name to the player name for the duration), but the sheer fun involved in, for example, sharing the data between two databases and making sure it's all kept stable and up to date for zone transitions gives me a bad case of heartburn.

It also has the distinct disadvantage of leaving out two groups of players. It could obviously and easily be applied to the US servers, even if they had to be paired up, but the French and German servers would have no partners.

Still, it would be an elegent solution to underpopulated PvP zones, if the reason they were underpopulated was a general lack of population. However, I doubt it is.

    Server Merges?

    [ QUOTE ]
Why do people keep asking? There must be a reason, so ask yourself why.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well, if people really thought that a server merge would eliminate these problems, the answer is simple. They decide which server to support, and migrate their characters across.

So, Union is/eas the 'unofficial roleplay server', so you declare Defiant as the 'unofficial PvP server' and people who want to PvP move their main PvP characters to Defiant. PvP population goes up, you're happy.

I've noticed that it's often Defiant players who suggest this, so I assume Defiant has a (perceived) lower population, so why not move to Union?

Now, why is this not going to happen? Because the last thing people suggesting this want to do is actually make a choice, or pay for the move. It's there to do though, if you really think the server you're on is underpopulated.

    [ QUOTE ]
I mentioned this on a board over in i14 suggestions, the server merge would solve the PvP issues, twice the players.. woohoo

Merge the servers and leave PvP alone!

    [/ QUOTE ]

Dumbest assertion ever! If you think these changes are being made because of EU PvP, you have a wonderful sense of humour.

No, these changes are largely for the US servers, which according to many have good, healthy populations and we should really merge the EU servers in with them! So, having more people to PvP with clearly does not solve the PvP problems in CoH. I personally doubt you can solve them, but then, I don't care.
  11. We're in for a warm spell, for the time of year. Morning showers will give way to a cloudy afternoon. High of around 16C and light south-southeasterly winds. The showers may return in a few places toward evening, but that blanket of clouds will keep the temperature up with a low of 12C.

Tomorrow, more rain and a little warmer than today.

    Server Merges?

Not to mention that a server merge has been (repeatedly) ruled out.
  13. I thought she looked delightfully metallic.

And your idea for the UK flag costume for Ni brought to techni-greyscale.

    [ QUOTE ]
WoW has it wrong - everything about it is wrong, wrong wrong
CoH has it's own style, which is a big part of the appeal - trying to copy WoW or any other game would dilute the things that makes CoH special.

    [/ QUOTE ]

The only thing special cox has left is lake of content, seeing as how they have removed the speed of the pvp now,

    [/ QUOTE ]

Of course, that entirely your opinion. For me, if they took PvP out entirely, there would be little change in my enjoyment of the game. And then, in WoW, having hit level cap (at 70) there was nothing there for me to do besides grind. The content is heavily restricted to raid teams. If you love PvP so much I can see why you prefer WoW, of course, but you represent a minority of CoX players and probably a (larger) minority of WoW players.
  15. It's odd, I had a good idea what your post would say before I looked at it, sorudo.

    Updated manual

I suspect the last 'update' was for CoV.
  17. Believe me, I know your pain. It doesn't happen to me that often, but of course it tends to do it when I least need it.
  18. You can read any or all of my character bios here.

However, I don't go in for the 'potted character history' school of bio, so you may be dissapointed. (Plus, some of them don't really have a bio aside from noting that I roleplay. It's useful sometimes to warn people... )
  19. I would very seriously consider a lifetime subscription deal on this game. I regret shutting my subscription down for the period I did, but I wasn't playing it and I'd just lost my job. This is one game I can see myself coming back to, unless CO turns out to be wonderful, which I'm sorry to say I doubt.

    P.S Traitors!!

    [/ QUOTE ]

11 million people cant be wrong can they?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Considerably more than that voted George W Bush President of the USA. Twice. Yes, 11 million people can be really, really seriously wrong.

    [ QUOTE ]
Cox yet to launch i13 and the players argue about the small content and huge changes to a core aspect of the game that they dont even like.

    [/ QUOTE ]

You don't spend much time on the WoW forums, do you? If you honestly think this is bad, you really, really lead a shaltered life.

To be really honest, I doubt there's anything to learn from Blizzard that NCSoft don't already know:

    1. If you have a huge marketting budget and a lot of dumb players, you can sell them the idea of constantly having to spend every waking hour farming drops.

    2. If you do have a property that's hugely successful (Warcraft and Diablo) milk the suckers for everything they've got.

    3. Do it with a smile.
  21. While I would obviously love a lower subscription fee, I am not willing to pay for that with fewer, lower quality updates. I believe, Phantoms, your view of the market to be wrong. If people aren't willing to pay the rate it's at, they probably aren't willing to pay for a subscription-based game.

Also, since you did it to me about IOs: give me a reference for those people saying they thought it was too expensive.

    i13 Upkeep?

    [ QUOTE ]
A little irritating that I can't have storage if I want to avoid rent. I actually prefer the old way.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Ditto.

This is a bit of a double-edged sword. I can now expand my base, add in some decorative rooms, perhaps, and it's just a one-off cost.

However, I now have to pay rent on a base which I rarely use since I'm not really playing the characters in that SG. I will now be forced to play them every so often simply to stand still regarding prestige.
  23. Do you mean Hero One, or Hero 1?

Thought I don't think a real name has been given for either.
  24. Probably be bad due to Wrath coming out today as well. People have been prepping for it. More people will be scuttling off to WoW now it's launched.
  25. [ QUOTE ]
Being an asocial ******* would never helped my SG to rank 9.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Boasting and an indirect insult in one stub sentence... well done. I can see where your reputation comes from for communication skills. Bye now.
