Quote:Sorry, but I start pretty much all my heroes in Galaxy, probably because Atlas is so popular.6: Galaxy City - Considering this is a starting zone... the fact that most have forgotten it even exists stands to testament Atlas Park's popularity.
Plus, I roleplay under Galaxy Girl's statue pretty much every night.
It generally doesn't seem that empty, at least on Union. -
Ecky-thump, the great northern martial art. Involves hitting people with a large black pudding.

(( PMs have been dispatched to those investigating. ))
(( For general information, I'll be dropping information anyone might come across in this thread and others. Anyone wishing to investigate specific things will get PM'd the information, or they can talk to me in-game. As a first for me, I'm going to try to terminate this plot line with a MA mission, which I'd better start working on now, because my ability to work with MA is not as hot as some folks around here. Hopefully, by the time we get to the finale I'll have something interesting to give closure. )) -
From the IC Rumours thread:
Quote:"I heard it was a bunch of Circle of Thornes came out of Perez and did it."
"Well, I heard it was Hellions sacrificing to a demon so they could fight off the Circle."
"Sure sounds like those magic-types are up to something."
"Yeah, they deserve all they get. Killin' kids, it's not on."
Two policement talking in the Galaxy City preceinct building. -

Children Found Dead in Gemini Park
Two children were found dead in Galaxy City's Gemini Park late last night by shop keeper Barry Marlow. At time of going to press, police had no comment on the deaths.
Marlow gave the following statement: "They were so young. No more than 7. The monsters who did this deserve the death penalty!" -

Quote:Since the demo'd the NVidia 3D solution at HeroCon (on Aion), I think you'd find they'd do it that way.Sorry for the confusion. I know how the 3D is done, was more asking how this game would do it.
The '3D encoding' is already embedded in the graphics calls. You just need a system that interprets and displays it.
If I'd won the one they were giving away at HeroCon, I'd have been very happy. Since I didn't and you need a $200 gadget plus a 120Hz screen, it's way, way, WAY too expensive for what amounts to a very sexy gimmick, which currently doesn't even work with CoX. -
Quote:Then you clearly didn't bother to read what I wrote. There are more things you can do with more space than write bios
Besides I think bios (or other things) that go into more detail would be more fun to read even if they are long
With the exception of a few bios which are generally spoofs of the kind of long bios you are talking about, the vast majority of long bios are:
* badly written
* badly spelled
* written by someone who's first language isn't yours, but they wrote it in yours anyway.
* and finally, entirely anathema to any form of good roleplay (or even bad roleplay half the time). -
Correct. Equally, there's no reason to increase it when there are far better ways to use resources and far better places to put a long bio.

Not many...
Operative Seven is an autonomous AI belonging to 'Section 19' of the PPD, a unit tasked with finding novel ways of fighting crime.
Nitoichi was created with the express intention of fighting Rikti. Her only reason (initially) for fighting crime was to gain enough experience that Vanguard would allow her into the War Zone where she could off Rikti to her heart's content. She holds no particular rank with Vanguard, but does do 'special operations' for them.
I don't really like embedding characters to heavily into canon organisations because the structures are usually too badly described in lore. Whatever you do, you end up creating something which doesn't quite fit, or later gets made inviable by lore updates. I also tend to have issues around characters ending up with rank in such organisations since you can't actually earn it. -
GURPS IST and the White Wolf's Abberant have both produced fairly realistic settings featuring supers. Worth a read if you're interested in that kind of thing. The CoH background is actually fairly well constructed. I think it's moderately fair to say that a lot of the consistencies we see (on Union anyway) are actually the result of player roleplay rather than actual problems with the background.
The press in real life would be what the press are: highly variable. We see that in Paragon City and a number of other settings. Some papers would treat heroes as heroes, others would dig into their background until it broke, others would consider them a menace. The press needs distinction to create a USP which brings in their readers. Expecting one, consistent attitude from them is like asking for consensus at the UN. -
Quote:That's actually part of the background. Run the Origins arc. Essentially, everything comes from the same source, so it's hardly surprising that everyone can do everything. You can be a wizard that messes with ppl heads, or with very forces of gravity and summon a levitating orb rp'ed as a spirit of some sort, but so can a mutant right next to you.
Origin-specific powersets don't actually exist, and they aren't going to start including them. While some sets lend themselves to some origins more obviously than others, they aren't specific.
e.g. There's no reason why you can't have an Energy/Devices Mutant Blaster. The mutant power is energy blasts, supplanted with gadgets.
Willpower is a perfectly good Magic origin set, Mutants could have enhanced neural systems which provide the effect, Science could have done the same, implants could provide a tech alternative.
It's all a matter of conception. -

So, the first person to get to the highest point in Praetoria City dressed in full Roman armour who says "This Is PRAETORIA!" gets the special 'Tyrant Facepalms At You' badge.

Yesterday I built a placeholder page for Gunwitch, who's coming along with Going Rogue and it occurred that we're going to need some new categories for 'alignment.'

Quote:There's so much wrong with this.First, let me explain where I am coming from. I am a Christian. As such, evil is a matter of intent. It involves free will, choice.
To kill deliberately a million people, regardless of your ultimate intent, is an act of evil. Despite any good intentions you are lending yourself to evil in this action. Even if your goal is to save the world and you consider yourself to be the savior of mankind, you've comitted an act of evil. Despite the purity of your intentions you have defiled yourself and committed murder.
Evil is a matter of intent. Your words.
To kill millions to save the world is evil. i.e. Your intent does not matter, it's what you did that sets your state.
That's a logical contradiction.
Evil is a matter of intent.
It involves free will, choice.
Highly debateable, but, given the example above: if I choose to let the entire world die when I could have saved the world by killing a few members of it, that makes me a good person?
The problem you are faced with here is that defining Good and Evil in absolute terms, the way you have done, is simply wrong. I don't believe even the Bible is that absolute, but setting that aside, pigeon-holing people as Evil because they don't fit into your moral view of reality, or worse, because you don't understand their moral standpoint and don't like it much, now that's evil. -
Early morning issue, Paragon Times, Society Pages
The rich and famous gathered in the prestigious Marloborough Hotel last night, raising money for the Paragon Youth Drug Rehabilitation Trust. Pictured among the gathered businessmen are film star Dirk Bendgrass and ex-Playboy model Anastasia Kade. Mrs Kade brought with her a number of glamorous young ladies belonging to her agency, Paragon Pets, and their presence certainly brightened up an otherwise rather dull fund raiser.
(( The picture printed with the article shows various models from the agency, including Annette Barrington, gathered together for a publicity shot. )) -
Good and evil are human terms and, like moral and immoral, they depend entirely on the person defining them.
Is it moral, or good, or evil, to kill one person to save a thousand?
Some would say yes.
What's the balance point? Is it okay to kill a thousand people to save two thousand? Or a thousand and one?
There's no actual answer to the question, would be my point. -
Quote:I put essentially no effort into gaining the Vanguard tokens I've used to get all the costume pieces I wanted. I levelled a fair bit from 35 to 50 in the War Zone, because the payback was excellent. On top of that, the average Rikti Raid at Galaxy Girl nets a fair few tokens as well. I recently discovered there were 'Vanguard katanas' available for DB, wandered over and discovered I could pay for them without flinching, and I barely play that character anymore and haven't played at all for several months.Mind you, I'm not a fan of locking things behind TFs, but locking them behind insurmountable cost is actually WORSE.
Now, I primarily solo. The roman kit which is 'locked away behind a TF' is essentailly barred to me completely. The Vanguard kit was easy. I'd much prefer it if I could get the roman gear for the very moderate cost in time that the Vanguard gear is available for. -
My current main is a full natural and she started crime fighting specifically so that she could gain enough rep to join Vanguard and start slotting up Rikti, so naturally, she's quite fond of Vanguard.
She uses the Vanguard costume change emote for quick changes. "A Vanguard mage taught me the spell. Comes in useful when there's a raid, or just for showing off."
I don't use the full Vanguard costume kit, though I think she actually has access to most of it. Definitely uses one of the arm-guard sets and the helmet. She did use the chest plate for a while, but I think I went back to a different one which looked better. The complete Vanguard kit is a little too clunky for her fighting style. -
I met David, briefly, at HeroCon (I was one of the two crazy people from England) and he seemed like a nice guy.
Well done, David, and from what I saw of your artwork, well deserved. Gratz on the level up. -
Theory 3 - your flag can get shunted to the default for no readily apparent reason, in which case they don't know.
Theory 4 - They teamed with friends for some reason and then forgot to reset their flag.
i.e. lots of reasons.

Late breaking news.
The Unity Vigil tonight issued a statement that the hero known as Air Razor was taken into custody and later released following psychic verification that he was, in fact, in school at the time of the attack in King's Row.
Any requests for further information are to be routed through the Unity Vigil press office. -
Ni remained quite still, watching the spoiler. She hated riddles. Besides, others were far better equipped to deal with the situation.
He wants them to find it anyway, Annette commented internally. If these bombs go off, he'll kill himself and he doesn't want that.
He's a jerk, Ni commented. Annette found it rather hard to disagree.
