  1. All this discussion has no real meaning unless you give an indication of the difficulty level of missions you're running. e.g.
    [ QUOTE ]
I struggle if there isn't a tanker in the team and espcially someone without an end rec power

    [/ QUOTE ]

It has no meaning because we don't know how big your mob groups are, what relative level they are, etc.

War Crow is a 41 kat/regen scrapper, currently his missions are set on Rugged. My normal mode of operation is to select key targets or the highest level mob I can see in any group and trash them. Once I've run out of key targets, I just continuously hit things until nothing is moving. I almost never use inspirations, I have powers for that.

In a team, his job is to squash bosses, provide damage output, eliminate things likely to ace the squishies, act as emergency tank if required.

Katana is a little faster than broadsword, but broadsword has higher basic DPS (I believe). Both have the advantage of a power which buffs your DEF when you hit something. 3 +0 SOs on Divine Avalanch gives you something like a 30+% DEF buff, which can be overlapped. So that's 60-70% DEF against all melee and all lethal attacks.

Stick that on top of regen and you have a part SR scrapper that regenerates. Stick on top of SR and you have an SR scrapper with a respectable DEF score.
  2. Me, I find myself not caring. For various reasons.
  3. [ QUOTE ]
Trite, possibly, but I liked the idea behind the statement.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Very trite, and almost always the answer people come up with for why people like that don't solve everything. It's patent rubbish, and inconsistent. Superman is close to that level of power and does choose to help. His writers don't want the comic books to end, however, so they never bother taking his powers to their logical conclusion.

Think about Minority Report for a second. Premeditated murder is a thing of the past in that world because you get caught days before you commit the murder. All they have left are rapid-response, sudden impulse killings. Everyone else knows it's not worth trying.

Superman would do the same thing for ALL CRIME.

You can rationalise it all you like. Stopping crime by making it an ineffective profession isn't acting like a god, it's basically social engineering of the kind we do already. The difference is, now there's a risk of being caught and criminals play on that risk. With Superman, there's no chance of getting away with it. People would stop committing crimes, apart from 'crimes of passion.'
  4. Wordy, both Superman and the Flash were well capable of going back in time due to the ability to move so fast (*sigh*). Superman could be active in more or less every point in the universe, and still have time to get home and spend a nice evening with Lois. He is illogical. They gave him too much power and failed to bother thinking about the consequences of it. Luckily, neither do comic-book fans.

The JLA has a space-station. It's members can be anywhere in the world in seconds. There should be no threat they can't deal with. Nope, Marvel may have just about everyone parked in New York, so they should be tripping over each other, but DC made too many of their heroes too uber, and it's taking them two 'Crisis' mini-series to sort out the mess, and I'll be willing to believe it'll still be a mess after that.

Nobody has any feedback to give?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Don't scan the Creative forum that much. I sometimes wonder how many good stories I've missed. Hey ho.

Technical point: I think I'd have gone back and picked a word for GhostWidow that didn't get '[censored]' slapped all over it. Otherwise it's technically well constructed, possibly one of the better pieces I've read for actual grammatical accuracy.

Story itself left me a little cold. It's well written, but I don't have the slightest sympathy for the character. Closest I come is the bit where s/he admits to quite liking the mercenaries. Having read GhostWidow's journel on the CoV web site, I have more sympathy for her, and she's a psycho.

I'd like to read more about Eressos (who I assume is the narrator) because, aside from anything else, you write well and I suspect I'd enjoy reading it. (And as everyone knows, the world is here for my amusement. )
  6. [ QUOTE ]
DC and Marvel have been around longer, so the way their hero elements work have a lot more substance behind them I guess, than a story brewed as a backdrop for an MMORPG.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    No, they don't, not really.

The universe continuity in both 'seetings' tends to assume that the various titles don't actually interact much. When the X-Men arrive in New York to battle something virtually unstopable, do the other 500 established heroes in the city turn up to help, especially the ones probably capable of dealing with it in 3 seconds flat? Hell no.

Marvel isn't even too good at keeping up the whole Mutants Are Bad thing outside of the mutant comics.

DC made the mistake of creating too many heroes that are too uber. Superman being the case in point. They've had to retcon him so many times to make him beatable it's silly. And in reality, there would be no crime. You've got Superman to take care of everything except magic and kryptonite, and EVERYONE ELSE to deal with those!

Most of the RPG super-world backgrounds I've read have been better than DC, Marvel, or CoH, probably because they have no baggage to drag around and the RPG rules stop the characters becoming stupidly powerful.

    [ QUOTE ]
As for "Earth for humanity" IIRC it says Humanity, not humans. It could be an anti-metahuman message, an anti Kheldian message, or it could be war propoganda. I'm inclined to think the last personally.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Ditto. Or, if not propaganda, then just basic anti-Rikti.

That said, there's something to be said for anti-Kheldian.

What they are not is anti-mutant. Despite one or two people attempting to RP the whole Marvelesque "People Hate Mutants" thing, but I simply don't buy it. I remember being pulled up by Filth because my toon said he'd been fighting 'Freaks', "which was a common name for mutants." To which my reply was "not that I've ever heard." There's some anti-super prejudice, but it's generic (and very badly portrayed), not aimed specifically at mutants.

And my opinion of the RP setting of CoH: It doesn't have one. People go on about the rich background. Rubbish. I've seen better, more internally consistent, better presented RP settings drawn on the back of a [censored] packet.

    And I don't care.

I roleplay despite the game, not because of it. The only thanks I give to CoH for RP are:

    1. They actually made a superhero MMO.
    2. I've met people I can roleplay with, many of whom now fall into the category of friend.

Everything else is down to the players. Cryptic has nothing to crow about.
  7. Ravenswing

    Regen changing?

I also have both, though Velvet is only a baby at level 12. Regen has higher survivability than SR. Katana/Regen has the survivability of both. Katana/SR can get better melee/lethal Defense from using 3-slotted Divine Avalanch than they can from their toggles.

However, both have the same basic problem, getting hit. If a regen gets hit (more likely) he regenerates the damage, unless he's dead. If an SR gets hit, he doesn't, and while he's less likely to get alpha'd, the result is the same as for a regen. This is where the Resistance-based secondaries come in.

Added to this Quick Recovery, which tends to keep us high on endurance, and regen scrappers are perceived as overpowered because we aren't waiting around between fights.

Well, nowadays I'm waiting for clickies to recycle, but my endurance bar is full. (unless I've just hit a sapper or a Ringmistress. )
  8. [ QUOTE ]
Stalkers and MM's are the only original things to come out of CoV and should be applauded for adding to the games content.

    [/ QUOTE ]

And that is the answer to the OP's comment that there are so many Stalkers about. (Though, honestly, I don't see it.) The reason is that Stalkers are one of the few things in CoV that's new.

There are also a lot of MMs and a lot of Plant Dominators.

I have to say that, when a thread kicks off and, before the end of the first page, both Zephyrus and Rock_Eagle make posts I completely agree with, there must be something wrong with the universe.
  9. Ah yes, but my post count is so high it makes no difference.

The only way I get a major advantage in silly posts is if I assassinate The_Question first.
  10. But he did up his post count by one, much as you did.
  11. I always did wonder that about Gremlins. I mean, they were supposed to be Chinese...

    Regen changing?

    [ QUOTE ]
Ladies and Gentleman of the court i urge you to see, this assult on regen scrappers is merely kicking us while we are down.

    [/ QUOTE ]

You didn't actually read the thread before you posted, did you?

There is no assault on regen scrappers. This thread is just reporting a rumour, not any actual evidence of regen getting nerfed.

    [ QUOTE ]
I think regen is just as potent as the other scrapper secondary sets and not a tad more.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Under generic conditions, you're wrong. Regen scrappers probably have the highest survivability of any scrapper secondary. Go check out DrRock's thread on comparative survivable DPS rates in the Player's Guide section.

That doesn't mean Regen needs nerfing, and I don't think that it's going to get any. It's just a rumour, nothing more.
  13. I'm going to break a rule and say congrats. Well done, mate.
  14. [ QUOTE ]
*Nudges RW and points at Eressos' avatar*

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Errr... point, maybe.
  15. Post removed as being kind of pointless seeing as how Eressos retracted his.

No apology required, mate. We both got a bit overheated.

FFM, I had the same big nose, the one you saw in Brighton was the one after it got cut off on the forums. Beware of thinking your being reasonable, it's amazing how people take it the wrong way.
  16. [ QUOTE ]
Guys.... Please don't turn this into a slanging match. All you'll do is get wound up and get the thread locked...

    [/ QUOTE ]

FFM, you wouldn't believe how much trouble I've gotten into trying to be the voice of reason. I really, strongly suggest that you don't stick your nose in.

Eressos, I apologise, you're quite right, I was recalling a 'discussion' in one of the PvP threads and mixing it up with a one in Roleplaying.

Neither of us should be making sweeping generalisations about roleplay in either setting, but I would like to point out that taking something I said in October, replying to it in December, and then treating it as a recent statement that RP in CoV was terrible is a bit off.

When I start playing CoV at all again (I haven't played it since about mid-November) I would like to look in on some of the RP 'events', groups, whatever happening in that server. At no point did I say I did not wish to do so. Currently, however, I'm actually levelling my highest level hero (who got no attention through the whole of I5) and I'd rather do that than play my neglected Stalker.
  17. [ QUOTE ]
Then why don't you try CoV Roleplay, rather than immediatly dismissing EVERYTHING about it, and passing it off as [censored]?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Okay, first off, you're quoting something I wrote at the end of October, before CoV was actually live. Go check the posting date if you don't believe me. I could not have tried RPing in CoV, it didn't exist. I was, however, stating my opinion which is what this kind of community board is here for.

For the record, the standard of RP I met in the beta was poor, if not totally unsuitable for a computer game.

    [ QUOTE ]
Considering the poor Villain Roleplay was present in City of Heroes, it's a pathetic argument to say the City of Villains Roleplay would be the same; especially given it's an entirely different setting.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Based on the fact that the same people would be playing both games, indeed that the people trying to play 'bad guys' in CoH would be more likely to move to CoV... no, I don't think it's an invalid argument at all.

    [ QUOTE ]
Considering I spent the vast bulk of my time Roleplaying in Galaxy City on the American servers, I know what sort of things the Heroes can come up with.

    [/ QUOTE ]

So, I'm not allowed to base my arguments on the known player base of the EU servers, but you are allowed to base yours on the known player base of servers in a different culture?

    [ QUOTE ]
As far as I know, this is the first time I've discussed anything even remotely approaching GG with you. Either give proof of me saying such things about GG in the past, or stop spouting the "spurious" and "pointless" accusations you complain I'm using.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Could have sworn it was you, but if I'm wrong, I'll apologise.
  18. [ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]
As for RPing villains in general: I can see that becoming a rather boring affair where various toons sit around trying to demonstrate how hard/wierd/sick/psychotic they are, which doesn't terribly appeal to me.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Because the angst, "poor me" and overly-perfect-in-every-way Heroes are any more interesting?

    [/ QUOTE ]

No, because everyone who's ever tried to actually play a villain character in CoH has spent their time proving how much of a tool they can be while thinking they were doing stunning roleplay.

Is that blunt enough for you?

I'm quite well aware of the potential for roleplay in CoV. I don't happen to think that potential lies heavily in the area of mass meetings because villains are competative and (theoretically) heroes are cooperative. I can see it working much better in individual random RP and in SGs.

Also, I spent last night roleplaying a couple planning a date for Friday night, a hero discussing some strange murders and how to deal with them with other heroes, and (just for the fluff) a rather strange young woman who tends to say just what she thinks because she hasn't really learned not to.

No angst. Not one of the people involved was perfect in any way, and not one of them was going for any form of sympathy vote. They were getting on with their lives.

I know you don't like GG, Eressos. You've said so in the past. if your only argument is that we only ever do angsty rubbish, then please get off your soap box and come down and take a look rather than producing unfounded, spurious, pointless arguments.
  19. For the record, FFM and I both have villains in The Concord. Not that I've played Lilith in weeks. Maybe if I'd actually got a hero to level 50 I'd be more excited by the prospect of playing a villain.

Not really sure that's true though.

    Regen changing?

Ah, Invincible with an 8-man team, right. In that case you deserve all you get, sorry.

    [ QUOTE ]
Not as bad as sappers, but judging by speaking to people in game and also looking on forums, everyone hates them!

    [/ QUOTE ]

Again at Invincible with an 8-man team I understand they are quite bad. Personally I generally solo on Rugged and sappers are boring. Worst issue is if one catches you by surprise.

I find Ringmistresses are a lot worse since they sap endurance worse than sappers and are bosses. I'm actually happy the 'nerfed' IH to be a clicky. If it was still a toggle I wouldn't be able to use it to keep me alive when taking them on. MoG is no use since they do Psi damage.

    Regen changing?

    [ QUOTE ]
regen when your instnt healing has run down, so has your MoG against nemesis is not fun in the slighteset, face plants very quickly I find

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Really? Why?

Or perhaps, what level of mission are you running? Nemesis usually fall over quite happily for me just with Integration running.
  22. [ QUOTE ]
Is now on test server in USA and will be brought in today prolly

    [ QUOTE ]
    City Zones:

    * Bloody Bay, Siren's Call, Warburg: When players in a PVP zone are revived at the hospital, they will be immune to PVP for 30 seconds.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    [/ QUOTE ]

Eh? When you revive at a hospital, you get a 30 second countdown timer. Are they saying this doesn't work and you're subject to PvP immediately?

I mean, it makes little difference, it takes longer than 30 seconds to get out of the hospital, and how, exactly, is this going to stop people from teleporting you after the thirty seconds?
  23. [ QUOTE ]
The thing that bugs my is that people are complianing about stalkers running away to rehide but no one seems to have a go about regeners running off and 30 secs later coming back at you with full health.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I play both, and don't complain about either. I also don't complain that those rotten Invuls reduce the damage I do to them, or the SRs keep dodging attacks, swines.

I'd have to agree with you about the thread. Like I said, I can't believe it's still going.
  24. Ravenswing

    Regen changing?

Regen isn't currently overpowered, IMO, but it is apparently one of the highest survivability Scrapper secondaries.

I honestly think that anything that happens in I7 will be very minor, unless you're a villain. I'd say I7 will see a few powers tweaked in the hero sets, a few up, a few down.

Personally, I think Controllers are currently overpowered in the lower levels and may see a slight downward mod to their Containment power. Stalkers will get a nerf that stops them one-shotting player characters, but that may be good for the rest of us since AVs and such won't be able to one-shot us either. Some of the Tanker sets may see a little upward mobility.

I don't see the Scrapper secondaries being nerfed, however.

    And I could be wrong.
  25. Ravenswing

    Hasten help?

Could I ask if someone's checked this recently? Or if the actual effect of Hasten is worth it for an attack-oriented class?

    Reasoning:

Last night, I decided to have a play with War Crow. I created a build in coh_planner without Hasten in it. I added one (1) Recharge Reduction SO (+0) into each attack.

I went through the maths and it looked like the attack chain would work they way I normally do it:

Divine Avalanch - Golden Dragonfly - DA (again) - Soaring Dragon - repeat.

I copied him over to test, did the respec, and found something I could hit long enough to see if it worked.

Now, the figures didn't quite work out as suggested in coh_planner. However, to be honest, the attack chain above doesn't quite work because Golden Dragonfly doesn't quite recharge fast enough, but then, it doesn't with Hasten on either.

I can't help but think that Hasten is now only worth a single SO's worth of recharge reduction.

Certainly, I think Crow is going to drop Hasten in the near future.
