  1. Sunday is fine, though I'm (currently) supposed to be popping over to see my parents that day, so it's likely to be late-ish. I have work the next day, but it's late shift so I can stay up a bit later.

I must warn though that I am a not an experienced RP'er, so I may have a steep learning curve ahead!

    [/ QUOTE ]

To be honest, an SG like this could be perfect for you, then. Part of the trouble of RP is working out how your character should think and act. This SG helps by fixing some of that (or at least providing some framework for building it). You need to know less about 'roleplaying' and more about 'the Soviet Union'. (And that's half the secret of roleplaying, just getting on with acting like you're an alien princess instead of worrying about roleplay technique.)

and fight crime Eastern European style!

    [/ QUOTE ]

That means one of two things:

    1. You keep secret files on everyone and so are able to stopany crime before it takes place (unlikely, you don't have the staff).

    2. You're enormously ineffective and probably corrupt.

Neither of thses options sounds good.

As long as Saraya, Yancha and Ellie are included, I'm happy.

And I can make jokes like that since they're pixels, and one of them belongs to my SO anyway.

None of that! For every tear Ellen sheds God would kill a kitten, but there aren't any left due to all the Wings and Banks Suggestions. You realise Heaven is knee deep in little kittens with wings and halos, right?
  9. BTW, should warn you, katana/sr is horribly squishy. Once you have Divine Avalanch up and running you'll be able to withstand about one-sixth of the damage of a kat/regen and about a quarter of a Dark Armour scrapper. Before that, you're about as good as a well buffed Blaster.

This may improve a bit under I7.
  10. I have both, and they both perform very well. It's a matter of taste. However, katana or broadsword and regen is probably your best bet. Dark Armour is actually remarkably good too, but not nearly as good as Regen with either Parry or Divine Avalanch. The combination is so awesome, I want to get my main to 50 before I7 in case they nerf him.

Ah. What you were reading was the AU setting I was writing and posted a bit of... and never finished. In the current setting, Hannah is Tessa's niece and was adopted by Zorielle last March.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Um, that would be Tessa-1's niece, since the Tessa everyone knows is Tessa-2, from the same universe as Haywire, where Alan Drek (Drake) created the Freakshow. This Hannah is technically totally unrelated to this Tessa.

Great story, but I'm going to pick holes in your composition just to be a meanie. Try scanning the story and looking at the first word in each paragraph, especially near the start. Most of them are 'Hannah'.

I do remember seeing Electron Kid around, but not much about him. I think I was having one of my off phases at the time.

If at all possible, try to pick a night when Alcatraz and Anastasia Kade are at GG, then try hitting on Anna. That way Wordy can have a chance to punch the Kid's lights out, since he plays Alcatraz.

    Is GG Dying?

I know this is a bit late, but:

    [ QUOTE ]
Okay, I admit my ignorance, but if I didn't know that there was a valid in-game reason for meeting then how are my characters supposed to know?

    [/ QUOTE ]

They could ask. Being one of the few still around from the time, War Crow was asked recently if that was really "the Prize who started the gatherings at Galaxy Girl."

Or, put it another way, why do you need a reason? The fact is that heroes gather under the Galaxy Girl statue. I and one of my toons happen to know why, but not everyone does. They go there because heroes meet there, and heroes meet there now because heroes "have always gone to GG to meet." That's what happens in real life, traditions happen for a reason, but after a while they happen because they are traditions.

    [ QUOTE ]
I had assumed that a group of RP players had chatted and decided that it was as good a place as any to meet for some "proper" roleplaying (after all the Atlas statue is a "very silly place").

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well, yeah, of course that's what happened. The_Prize (player) suggested it, we all agreed and made a date to turn up. But you wanted an IC justrification for why heroes meet at GG not the OOC reason GG was selected.

For the record, it's the best place we've found. Atlas is full of tools. PDP was full of tools and had lousy access. Various other places have been suggested, but they all fall down based mostly on easy access by level 1 RP toons. Pocket-D is about viable since you can get there relatively easily from King's Row station, but that was only introduced recently, and I think you'll find that running serious RP sessions there will prove as bad or worse than PDP was.

I'll go read the rest of the thread now.
  14. hmm... put that way:

Anastasia Kade is a 6-foot, big chested, long-legged blonde who poses in various degrees of undress for cameras. She was in both the UK and US editions of Playboy a few years ago, prior to marrying her favourite photographer and retiring from the model business to have a family. Unfortunately, that family was destroyed when her husband and daughter were killed by a bomb meant for someone else and she became a hero in an attempt to get revenge on those responsible.

On the surface, she's an attractive woman who wears revealing clothes. Her hero costume is heavy on the leather and she'd probably get classed as a dominiatrix if it wasn't for the fact the leather is purple (she likes purple).

Originally, she used to keep her hero and real identity seperate because she didn't want the other heroes looking down on her for her day job. Over time, she's grown more confident, and now doesn't bother so much. Still, she wears a black wig in her hero ID to make herself look quite different.

She now has an adopted daughter, and a new lover, something she didn't think she'd ever get around to doing again. She's a lot deeper than people tend to think from the blonde exterior, and she more or less helps run the model agency she's signed with. However, as Wordy can attest, I hope, she's still very feminine, even dressed in a lot of leather and lording it about in the Pits of Hell.

But the basic idea behind the character was to make a superhero who happens to be a glamour model and see where it went from there. (Actually, it was after the introduction of the scaling system and I wanted to see how silly you could make a female toon on test. Max chest, max legs... and then I decided I quite liked her... and I needed a temp toon while my main was busy elsewhere... and then I got toon-napped by Z.)

    Is GG Dying?

    Taking this backward...

    [ QUOTE ]
I can understand going to Pocket D; It's a night club and because of that it has an in-built reason to go

    [/ QUOTE ]

Quite a few characters I know of will not go to Pocket-D because it is a night club, or because it allows villains in as well as heroes. I strongly suspect that a lot of people quietly ignore the fact that their character wouldn't be seen dead with a villain in order to go to PD.

    [ QUOTE ]
but what reason would a character have to stand under a statue at 9pm every night?

    [/ QUOTE ]

    History.

About a year ago, The Prize, a relatively well known heroine, called together the heroes of Paragon City to make a stand against the Council on Striga Isle. She chose the statue of Galaxy Girl as a place to meet and discuss what was to happen. The heroes, even those without the security clearence to get to Striga, agreed that meeting under the statue was valuable for forging social links and exchanging information.

Since then, it has become well known that heroes come together under the statue, and new heroes know that others of their kind can be found there. It's a place you can go where people don't treat you different just because you have green skin... where everyone knows your... nevermind.

    [ QUOTE ]
Perhaps it's worth creating a new rationale to differentiate it from Pocket D and make it more popular/useful again... maybe by making it more like Speaker's Corner for Superheroes?

    [/ QUOTE ]

    That's exactly how it started.

Look, Pocket D is very nice, but after a hard day pounding DE into the soil, bad ambient music isn't necessarily what my character's are going to want for relaxation (and how Doc Temporis manages to stand the place... I can only assume he filters out practically all the sounds). A boy from mid-Wales, for example, might well prefer to sit in a square with friends, listening to the general chatter and the birdsong.

    [ QUOTE ]
Let's try and give the place a purpose and a reason for being visited, rather than just the people there.

    [/ QUOTE ]

You realise that's a silly comment, right. If there was no one in Pocket D, would you go there? Or, to be more exact, unless you find a happy time in roleplaying a solitary drinker, would you find Pocket D worth visiting without people in it?

    Is GG Dying?

Not wanting this to turn into another 'defense of GG' thread, but: [ QUOTE ]
You may say "But my character is aloof and dismissive", well that's fine

    [/ QUOTE ]
I recognise almost no one currently at GG in that statement. I have no idea who you are, mate, but if the above represents your opinion of GG, I'd suggest you haven't actually tried roleplaying there.

Now then. GG is not dying, it is getting a new batch of players in. To be honest, I think the population has gone up. There are a load of new people at the statue, I have no idea who half of them are, essentially there's a whole new crowd.

GG isn't dying, it's changing, it may even be restarting after a year, but it's not dying.

I'm technically one of the people who is 'pushing to 50', except I'm not. About one night a week I end up going AV hunting. This week (with Aisla on late shift), I'm not getting a lot of evening time to do anything, so I may choose to mission later, but I'll turn up at GG sooner or later. Or I might not, like last night, because I felt lousy, or I'm not in the mood.

As for 'new locations taking over', rubbish. When the Vigil was at its height, you lot would decamp to a rooftop and have private RP sessions. The Rooftop Generation sucked practically everyone out of GG after about 10:30 every night to go street hunting and RPing in King's Row. The Cirque have always had their SG meetings and RP sessions (which is why, quite frankly, they are a successful, well knit RP SG). Maybe I'm a bit more sensitive to this than most since my characters don't seem to join SGs, and I found the bandwaggon jumping that was the whole teen-super thing a bit much. The only difference now is that the private RP sessions happen in bases, and the new Pocket-D is attracting a lot of attention.

And people have always come and gone. The number of people still RPing at GG (or even in the game) since this time last year is very small. A few have returned (Prize and Finn, for example), but a huge number have moved on to other games, or just don't want this kind of RP anymore. Old people go, new people arrive. That's how MMOs work.

So, sorry to say this, Wordy, but I think you'll find it's just your vision of GG that's dying. GG has probably never been quite the way you thought it was, and now it's changing again. That's all.
  19. [ QUOTE ]
Basically, I'd like to know absolutely everything there is to know about female superheroes, and how they'd act in varying situations.

    [/ QUOTE ]

My female toons used to outnumber the male ones. I still have one relatively active female character (in a relationship with one of Wordy's male toons, btw), one I bring out for light relief, and a female villain. They all act according to how I feel they should act and aside from applying some stereotypes that tend to be relatively accurate (Anna will go all gogo over babies, men tend to forget a lot of women are like that), I play them as people, not women.

In general, I think the fact is heroines don't get treated much differently then heroes. At face value, a hero is defined by their powers rather than what's behind them. Now, female heroes probably get more attention from male civvies. They often wear skimpy outfits, or at least skin-tight ones, that tends to have certain effects on visually inclined males (i.e. most of them). However, I'd imagine a lot of male heroes get 'hero worship' along the same lines as boy band members, so it's swings and roundabouts.

About the only thing I'd say is, don't make her a lesbian, it's getting very tired.

As for being hit on OOC, yep, had that in beta. My defender tryout was (is) my 'light relief' character in live. She's short, blonde, wears a little white dress and thigh boots and, since she's pre-slider, she's stacked. A guy I was teaming with came on to her and I took it IC. Eventually, he asked OOC what sex I was, and was a little dissapointed when he found out I was a guy. (Then he found out the six-foot female who'd joined the team was not only a guy, but batted for the home team, so to speak (stupid filter).) I don't mind anyone hitting on my toons, as long as they keep it IC.
  20. I just don't have a clue.

    Period.

  21. [ QUOTE ]
The imitative, organised by the teachers of the cities primary schools, is designed to give children more trips outside the classroom, an activity that has been curtailed since the war for the children’s safety.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'm just thinking that should read 'initiative'.
  22. I'd point out that it doesn't give a name, just a title. One can assume, if one wishes.
  23. We weren't, but I thought you might show up to ask questions.

I'm going to short circuit this anyway and just give you the info, cos I'm not spending an hour with you lot sneaking around an emprty building.

The place is basically being used as a mail drop. Inside the door is a plastic mesh basket (lots of clockwork about, remember ) containing about three letters. Two are addresses to Gina Pelham, one is to the Director of Research, DTR Pharmaceuticals Inc.

The rest of the building is empty aside from the usual bits of paper, hair grips, carpet tacks, and other items you never manage to get out of a house when you leave it.

    Proceed from there folks.
  24. Being as how Nevermore didn't turn up last night, I don't think anyone needs any excuses.
  25. I'm writing this lot down now so I don't forget it, you can assume you discover the information at the appropriate times. It's basically background and description for the location of the address nevermore has located.

At the far south west corner of Boomtown one or two brownstown buildings are still standing. This one is tucked away in a corner of the War Walls. A few clockwork are busily trundling around the area in front of it, but don't seem to be bothered about the building itself.

A lump of fallen masonary is leaning against the east wall of the building, but it appears largely undamaged. Even the windows are intact. The lower floor appears to only have a single door in it, but there are windows on the upper floor. There are air-conditioning ducts on the (flat) roof, but the arrangement of fans looks like it would be difficult to crawl in, so your entry options are probably the front door (don't forget the clockwork), or a window.
