All very beautiful . My only "criticism" is that all of those women would suffer from severe backpain.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I agree with Stasis on the beautiful, but would like to point out that all CoX female toons come equipped with genetically modified back muscles which allow them to carry around all that weight.

Oh, and by the way, I'll be sending assassins around to your house later since I hate people with genuine talent.

Young weed! There's no need to feel down,
I said, young weed, pull your roots from the ground.
I said, young weed, 'cause you grow in a town
there's no need to be unhappy.

Young weed, there's a way you can fight.
I said, young weed, come be a flowery knight.
You can join up, and I'm sure you will find
Many ways to kill the humans.

It's fun to fight for the De-vor-ing Earth,

We need to rush this one to Cryptic and tell them it needs to be done as the next CoV Promotional Video. In fact, they should have had it out for those free trials they're handing out.

Seeing as I'm not the person who quotes Hindu scripture incorrectly, we shall be taking my opinion on this as gospel.

  5. [ QUOTE ]
Sorry, I do alot of fiction on other sites. An A/N is an Author's Note. it allows the author to drop in footnotes and other info wherever possible.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'd never heard of an A/N either, and I've written fiction on other sites. Hey ho, just illustrates what's at the bottom of the post.

The most common system used for similar notes in online RP is OOC bracketing, usually using double parenthses...

Hello to all *bows grandiously* (( And hi folks, been a while. ))

Note the use of emote bracketing, using asterisks to mark an action rather than speech.

Main problem is, everywhere does it a little different. In open RP environments like GG, it's difficult to get a general opinion on how things should be done because everyone comes with their own preconseptions.
  6. Like I said, LOL and ROFL are starting to become actual words, but people don't actually talk in smilies.
  7. [ QUOTE ]
but Weasel, as he is, will use them incessantly

    [/ QUOTE ]

I don't actually ever remember seeing Weasel use them. To be honest, much as I like you, and enjoy RPing with Weasel, if he did use constant smilies, I'd make my excuses and leave. I don't think you use them half as much as you think you do, or you're very well behaved around GG.
  8. [ QUOTE ]
note to self: talk with Jess K more often.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Jess is a really interesting character to talk to. When Z is in the right mood, you get some stunning (if slightly silly) RP out of a conversation with Jess about napkins or other household objects.

    Jess is great.
  9. [ QUOTE ]
    What's better?

    "I'm sure you're a good hero "

    or

"I'm sure you're a good hero.", he added with a sarcastic tone to his voice.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Actually, I'd be happy with:

    "I'm sure you're a good hero. *winks*"

However, frankly, a winking smiley is not the same as saying something in a sarcastic manner, and if they meant it that way then they need to say it.

We put up with smilies from some people, but there are always better ways of expressing yourself because smilies don't mean the same thing to everyone. Your example, in particular, is a very bad one since I don't think a wink has anything to do with sarcasm.

So, SW, I'd say that using smilies is not a simple, short-hand way of expressing complex descriptions of emotions. Actually, it's a really poor way of doing so.

    Sorry.
  10. [ QUOTE ]
I know its the RP thing but i can imagine myself making a typo out in the field n getting slayed for it.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Everyone makes typos. In a situation like live, online roleplay, where there are certain performance criteria to be met, you tend to make more typos.

Thing is, in those same live, online RP situations, people only really pick up on typos that are funny. If Stasis actually did come to a GG event and start picking holes in everyone's mistakes, she'd get her throat ripped out in no short order. Yeah, we try to write nice English, but failing doesn't gain you automatic humiliation.

Also, if you come to GG (for example), you'll find that we have several people there who can't write that well. Generally it's some form of dyslexia, sometimes quite severe. We make allowances because these are generally interesting people to roleplay with, and usually make more of a fuss over their own mistakes than we do.

And then there's the non-native English speakers who sometimes make interesting errors.

Frankly, if we spent our time correcting grammar errors in the other players, we wouldn't ever get any roleplay done!

The one thing that drives us up the wall is leet and text speak (and smilies) used in RP. Just don't do it. (I'd almost let someone get away with saying 'LOL' these days, since it actually appears to be becoming a word. Maybe even 'ROFL', but that's about it, and don't push it, or we'll set Purple Stasis on you. )

So lastly when is the time for these sessions?

    [/ QUOTE ]

9pm, UK local time (currently that's GMT+1), under the statue of Galaxy Girl in Galaxy City.

The link in my sig connects to a Wiki about the GG meets. Have a flick through.
  12. I finally found a theme song for War Crow - Adrenaline by Gavin Rossdale. (It's from the soundtrack album for XXX.)
  13. I don't really do SGs, but War Crow will enjoy laughing at you all if you get it going, so you've got my support.
  14. [ QUOTE ]
As slightly OT, heard an interview of the GW makers and grinched every time the refered to PvE as 'roleplaying' *shudder*

    [/ QUOTE ]

That seems to be the way most MMO manufacturers think. I'm pretty sure it's the way Cryptic think. I think it stems from 'Roleplaying Games' on PCs being categorised by those games where you sometimes have to talk to the NPCs.

    [ QUOTE ]
We should try to kick in a large request or sumthin' to ncsoft about a Roleplaying server

    [/ QUOTE ]

What Wordy said, basically, but beyond that... do you really think we haven't tried?

Cryptic add RP features to this game with the same pleasure as having their teeth pulled without anaesthetic. I think Bridger's stopped trying to convince people that Cryptic are interested in roleplayers, he was onto a losing battle.

You wouldn't believe how happy we were when they added new emotes in I6. It was like getting a pat on the head from God. "Hey! Wow! They noticed we exist."

Put it this way. If there are two choices of how to do soemthing in game, with no cost difference between the options, and one option would benefit roleplayers more than the other, then you can bet that Cryptic will go for the other option.
  15. See that little button up beside Reply... labelled Edit? Very useful for correcting mistakes.

Oh, and apology accepted. (Note use of Edit to add this line. )
  16. You didn't actually bother reading the thread, did you?

    [ QUOTE ]
i think there shud b more stories on this part of the forums no matter what they are

    [/ QUOTE ]

We have Creative for actual stories. Stuff here is really more character background sketches and such.

Story writing in Creative seems to have largely died out. Unfortunately, that's partially the moderator's fault. They started a compettion to promote the creative forum. They then awarded the prizes very late, or not at all, and to be honest some of the choices for awards were not so great. As a result, a lot of people gave up bothering.

    [ QUOTE ]
and thats the way it shud b 2 cut out the negative attitude

    [/ QUOTE ]

I can think of one (1) story which was greeted with a 'negative attitude'. Exactly one. It was really bad.

Most stories are read, enjoyed or disliked, and then commented upon with actual thought and care. Telling someone they could improve their writing in some way is not 'negative'. Telling them their writing is really great when it is not is not positive it's psychophantic.

    Lastly:
    [ QUOTE ]
and btw troll's are very dumb so it dnt matter if theyre grammar dnt make sense lol

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'm not actually sure where that came from, but it seems to imply that anyone criticising another person's writing is a troll. If that's your intention, I'll be reporting your post to the moderators. Having your first ever post here reported for insulting the population of the forums wouldn't exactly mark you as a great member of the community, so I'm hoping you didn't mean it that way.
  17. I've never played Guild Wars, FFM.

And if Blizzard want to run RP servers they need to:
    * Enforce the rules.
    * Not build their reputation on things like Diabolo.
    * Not create an environment designed to promote combat between enemies to the exclusion of diplomacy.
  18. Since you mentioned SWG Hoppy... WoW an RPG? I've been on one of their Roleplay servers... I don't think so.
  19. [ QUOTE ]
I must admit i dont agree though, why would anyone run around and backstab people with a 2 handed sword ?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Perhaps if you knew what a ninjato was, you wouldn't ask questions like that.

    [ QUOTE ]
i havent actually tried ninja blade, but its the same as the scrapper one no?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Actually, no. They've done quite a good job on the model, and it looks just enough different from the katana to be about right.

For the record, both katana and ninjato are 'hand-and-a-half' swords, usable in one or two hands. While many of the classic kenjutsu and iaijutsu schools teach a largely two-handed approach, there is at least one very famous school (the Twin Heavens school of Miyamoto Musashi) which specialised in using a katana in each hand.

The ninjato is different from the katana in that the blade was shorter, straight, not curved, and had an over-sized tsuba (guard). This makes the thrusting strike used in the ninja blade AS far more practical. The actual reason for having a straight blade was in utility, ninja used their swords for more than just fighting, the oversized tsuba allowed them to be used (in the scabbard) as a step-up. The sword was pulled up after the ninja using the belt chord.

Why would you 'backstab' with it? Well, because pushing 28-inches of steel through someone's vital organs usually kills them quite quickly.

Actually though, paired daggers, or something similar would be a nice additional primary, and very much in-keeping with the AT concept.
  20. [ QUOTE ]
I had a look at /nin and it looks pretty interesting
Not that much lower defense than SR, and a heal just as powerful as /regen's heal, also 2 additional placates (??) further down the tree

    [/ QUOTE ]

Personal opinion: If you're looking at a concept build for a Stalker, ninjutsu is the one to go for.

Total personal opinion: If you're looking for a concept build for a Stalker nin/nin is the build to go for. (The neat thing here is that there's so many very useful powers in those sets that nin/nin is likely to be largely non-cookie cutter.)
  21. [ QUOTE ]
Putting these in Creative and linking them here

    [/ QUOTE ]

Or just putting them in Creative.

*Hands Reb his fully functional talent-stealing microwave system*
  22. SR got nerfed to hell around I5. Theoretically it will be more effective after I7, but I wouldn't actually believe that.

Regen for a Stalker is easy to play, but you'll die a lot. Stalkers ahve a lot lower hits than Scrappers, and regen is based on a percentage of your max hits. Due to this, regen Stalkers are relatively ineffective and quite easy to kill, even in comparison to other Stalkers. Regen Stalkers are certainly easier to kill than SR Stalkers.

Ninjutsu seems to have a good compromise, having SR features to stop you getting hit, and a self-heal. The survivability of ninjutsu Stalkers is rather higher than the other types.

Note that all this assumes you're slotting SOs and are at reasonable level (above 35, say).

    Parry Numbers?

    [ QUOTE ]
    1) 15%

    [/ QUOTE ]

Any idea when it dropped to 15%, I5 or I6?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Glad it wasn't just me that thought it should be higher than that. It's recent, and not documented, I think.
  24. Ravenswing

    Parry Numbers?

    [ QUOTE ]
I'm not a scrapper, but wouldn't 2 acc, 2 def, 2 redrec be better so there is more overlap? Seems a bit pointless to slot this power for damage.

    [/ QUOTE ]

It's not possible to get it to overlap more than once, and running Hasten, or a single recred, you can have it overlapped full time with one attack between each DA strike. This does reduce your DPS, you need to be chucking in something nasty between DA hits or you do no damage.

As with Idris, my experience comes from katana. To my knowledge, no DA and Parry have never been touched regarding their base DEF bonus. Expect them to be, possibly in I7. That's why I want to get my kat/regen to 50 before I7 is released. Don't think I'll make it, unfortunately.
  25. [ QUOTE ]
    just not feeling it atm?

will you still be about in game though?

    [/ QUOTE ]

This is the first time I've read the forums since Friday. I logged into CoH once over the weekend, to quit out of GGOOC. If I am in-game, I won't be teaming and none of my characters you may see in-game will be IC.

Unfortunately, I still can't find anything I like playing as much as CoH, so unless I get a life, I likely will be in-game. I've simply had enough of GG and its associated grief for now.
