like conjuring objects from thin air
[/ QUOTE ]
This talent makes her one of the worst God Mod characters at GG. I'm not sure you ever considered the ramifications of it.
The one thing I always pushed with War Crow was that he could do almost anything with magic, but it might take a long time. It's a balance. Even then, the character became unable to interact with plots without messing them about.
In reality, you should have the same problem. Maybe you don't think it through, or don't care, but at the level of magic she has, almost nothing is beyond her and she's a bane to anyone trying to run any plot that doesn't involve sheer force.
Of course, last time I looked, very few plots revolved around anything other than pure force because there were way too many characters around with too many resources, able to bust a plot wide open with barely a thought. -
[ QUOTE ]
Infact, I think I'm weird for a RPer as everything I do must be able to be explain in-game wise
[/ QUOTE ]
I prefer it if things which interact with other players' characters have an in-game basis. Random stuff doesn't matter.
Example: I wouldn't give War Crow an attack he doesn't have, because I couldn't take someone to the Arena and use it on them.
Similarly, I'd be unlikely to accept someone using a power on my character which didn't make sense for their powersets, e.g. a Mind Controller being able to rewrite memories; not only does nothing else they have give that power, but it's a significantly more powerful power than anything in the MC set.
Doing it the other way, I like my toons abilities in-game to have some basis in roleplay. War Crow was a magician, I could justify almost anything, however, he also used to make potions and magic items for other people, giving them the benefit of Health and Stamina from the Fitness pool. -

alot of weaknesses of course
[/ QUOTE ]
I don't create anything with a weakness in this kind of roleplay. It's asking for someone to come along and tell you they can abuse it.
FFM: No, I wouldn't have been spitting blood, I'd have just been somewhere else. -
[ QUOTE ]
Come now, he wasn't THAT bad and did actually have his uses! Afterall... One of his favourite passtimes was taunting and winding Jester up... Something that was very worthwile!
[/ QUOTE ]
Maybe, but he used to wind me up too. That's me, not my characters. I used to avoid your roleplays like the plague when you were on one of your Voyd trips. -
[ QUOTE ]
even to the point where many a time I was about to post a thread that got us all to agree on certain things in game so that RP wise we don't mysteriously have clashes.
[/ QUOTE ]
Don't even think about trying. Various attempts have been made before. What you get is a lot of bad blood and disagreement.
[ QUOTE ]
However A Marvel type universe with too many established charaters that are the best or second best in there filed kinda downs your creativity abit I think. You say I can lift 200 tons, and then someone says, can't! Thor is the strongest being and he can only lift 150 you have to lift less or you ruin the universe!
[/ QUOTE ]
Have you ever actually played a Roleplaying Game, UN? Not an MMO, not a computer RPG, a real, pen-and-paper game?
In a game like that, you have statistics for your characteristics. If you say you can lift 200 tons, then you better have the Strength Stat to do it, and the rules will tell you if you can. There's no guessing, no "mine is bigger than yours", you just compare numbers.
Real games often have carefully constructed backgrounds as well, without holes in you could fly a Rikti warship through. They publish background details beforehand, and then you have a GM who passes out the information to the players as required. So, if you were playing a Kheldian, the GM would hand you a package of basic information every kheldian should know (i.e. half the stuff you get from playing the game).
The kind of thing we see in the Kheldian arcs is what I like to call "elitist player syndrome". It happens buckets in Live RP. Let us take an example from one of the systems I play, Lorien Trust (LT). It goes like this:
New Player (NP): Hi, I'm new here, I'm playing a farmer and I'd like to know about the worship of Sithis.
Old Player (OP): Well, tommorrow at time-in, get your kit on and go talk to a Priestess of Sithis. This is a roleplaying game, you know.
NP: But... I'm supposed to be a typical member of the country and all the peasants worship Sithis, right?
OP: Most of them, yes.
NP: So, surely I should know something about the worship of Sithis already.
<pause>
OP, who now has a fixed grin and glazed eyes: This is a roleplaying game. You have to find out through roleplaying. Excuse me, I need to go get my weapons checked...
So, my first character in LT came from outside the Heartlands. That way, the fact that he didn't have a clue what was going on made perfect sense. -
[ QUOTE ]
Actually, Voyd did NOT, and still doesn't, break canon; I checked that most carefully before making him!. Simply because he comes from a time where we have NO canon material.
[/ QUOTE ]
Creating canon is breaking canon. I think I said that the first time we did this. You created (basically) an origin creature for the Kheldians. That's bad.
[ QUOTE ]
Yes, he WAS a mistake to make, and he's not coming back; please bear in mind though, that he was made when I was still fairly new to RP!
[/ QUOTE ]
And this is why it must be brought up again and again so that younger roleplayers don't make your horrible mistakes.
We shall track down your great-grandchildren so that they can be told the story, and pass it on down through the ages. Oh how they'll laugh. -
[ QUOTE ]
Personally, I don't have that issue as, as long as I don't break the canon we DO have
[/ QUOTE ]
As I recall, you have, a couple of times. Voyd being a case in point.
To the OP: I was pretty much there when 'community' RP started on Union, and I stuck with it until I couldn't take it any more, which took about 18 months. The totally unstructured characteristic system of the game has, in that time, resulted in just about everyone god modding left, right, and centre because there was no one and nothing to stop them.
I created magical amulets for anyone I liked which gave the wearer a screen against empaths and telepaths which could not be bypassed because I was sick of people abusing those powers.
I created a man who could not ever die (Jason Caine), because it isn't actually possible to die in this game.
I think not having an actual character structure to provide some level of consistency between the realisations of our characters has been very bad for roleplay in the game.
I think the poor background (Kheldians are worse than most, but the actual city background isn't a lot better) has been even worse for roleplay in the game. It doesn't help that the background is designed to make you feel like the only worthy hero below the Phalanx when everyone else is doing the same missions. It doesn't help that they keep rewriting the background whenever they need to tweak something (*cough* Faultline *cough*).
BTW, while walking would be cool, the number and types of emotes has got so much better that Cryptic need congratulating. -
While I don't go into PvP zones much, when I do there usually aren't very many people in them. Generally, it's really, really quiet.
I'm not sure if you're implying that things have become suddenly worse, but even if they have it'll be transitory. I spent a fair time in Warburg after it opened (levelling mostly) and that's the only time I've heard much background noise of a bad sort. That's a while ago now.
You don't say which server you're on? -
Regarding Smoke Bomb... it'll be great if they've fixed it since it's a multiple target Placate. At release, it was broken and didn't work. I don't know if they've fixed it yet, check the release notes.
-
Sounds like you went nin/nin?
My stalker is nin/nin and it's a really sucky combination to take if you have trouble making choices.Way too many good powers.

BS/REGEN does say "Magic sword" so that would be thematic.
[/ QUOTE ]
*nod* My 50 is a magic, kat/regen. He started out as a priest of The Morrigan, Celtic goddess of War and Battlefields. Her 'totem' animal was the raven or carrion crow, so he became War Crow. His sword wasn't magic, he was a magician, but his sword "has been revealed to be not entirely normal," over time.
You can get really outlandish with Magic origin. -
[ QUOTE ]
Kat/SR is huge fun. Mine is a current work in progress, but speaking to any experienced Kat/SR player will be more than likely to give the same responce
[/ QUOTE ]
I probably don't qualify as expereinced. My kat/sr is only level 12. She was such a total pain to level that I never got her any higher, and that's despite her being a roleplay character so having two costume slots would have been really useful.
I admit I haven't played her recently, so it could have got easier.
My one and only 50 is a kat/regen scrapper and I still find him great fun to play. -
BS/Regen is quite good (I prefer kat/regen, but people seem to like the extra damage from a bigger sword). Broadsword also gives you the opportunity to play a really dumb ox of a character, if you feel so inclined.

[ QUOTE ]
Seems silly that they'd change that yet up the prestige earnings because SGs weren't getting enough.
[/ QUOTE ]
No one ever accused Cryptic of consistent behaviour. -
Just replying on the end, not to you specifically.
I'm not saying you can't level Stalkers, I specifically said that I can level my Blaster faster than my Stalker. I have no doubt that I am not the best player in the world, but that applies equally to the blaster (I haven't played a blaster beyond about level 5 prior to this).
I don't have DOs slotted yet on the Stalker. Perhaps she's just underpowered for her level (16). I don't like buying DOs until I hit 17. That could be a bad choice in this case.
However, I still think the Blaster levels faster than the Stalker, because the Blaster didn't get DOs until 17 either.
Meh, just my opinion anyway.
The superspeed thing is an interesting point though -
That seems odd, but I maybe just read something wrong.
Hey! There's hope for my tiny little base yet! -
Did you build the teleport pad from salvage, or just use the default one? I think the buildable one uses less power, but can only have one target... or something.
-
Sorry. Would have been there but my stomach decided to mess me about. I did log in, but I was either early or late since I was the only person in RV on Test. So, I gave up and went back to feeling lousy infront of the TV.
-
On the vague off-chance that I might wish to engage in some random IC conversation sometime in the future (was that vague enough), where and when is RP happening on Union currently?
Pocket D gets mentioned a lot... -
I did a bit of playing on Test last night.
If you pick up an Oversight Centre (not cheap, but a lot cheaper than the other way) and the appropriate control/power source, you should then be able to get two out of the three basic base functions (workbench, med bay, teleport) up and cooking. You appear to run out of energy before you can have all three going.
There doesn't seem to be a way of getting more energy into the base without building a power room. I don't believe the dual function power/control gizmos can be extended. Which is a shame for small base builders.
So, if you want a "fully functional small base" it will need help from a friend or a huge amount of spare time.
OTOH, if you want a "mostly functional small base", you have more of a chance, but it will still take some significant time. You get 20k Prestige for each of the first 14-ish members in your SG, so you'll have 20k when you make the SG. An Oversight Centre costs (IIRC) 50k, and then you need to buy items to put in it...
(Edit: Or you could just build your base on Test, where the system will give you 32020000 Prestige when you create your SG. It's for testing base functionality, but it does let you play with a lot more toys.) -
The trick is to go with an Oversight Centre. This and the comensurate bits and bobs can give you basic control and power. Enough to get teleport and a workbench in anyway.
It can't be done quickly. You just can't generate enough Prestige at low levels. Even above 35, Prestige is not exactly fast to accumulate, and you'll be getting no Inf while you accumulate Prestige. -
Yes, and with the changes to rent it is now far more viable.
