Then I realised that what I don't like about PvP in RV is that it's really difficult to worry about the other PCs when you're standing there and Lord Recluse arrives with a couple of buddies.

    [/ QUOTE ]

hehe. I rememeber bouncing out the base and seeing the camp robot c3po sitting in the nearest pillbox (actually I had no idea what it was at the time, but it COULD have been c3po). Land almost right next to him for a closer look and before i can say "omg! its positron! DIVE DIVE!" he takes me to 1hp. Was lucky to escape :O)
Didnt go last night cos I was out, should be there next week.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I wouldn't mind, but this is actually the second time Recluse has got me. I didn't even see him until after I was dead the first time.

I think Recluse has it in for me and I'm not playing with him anymore. *stamps little foot*
  2. If you can find Lilith Pendragon or Neutron Fields on Defiant, then you can try roleplaying with them. I warn you though, poor Ms Fields will have to have her personality made up on the spot. I do have some clue what she's like, but I haven't been expecting any roleplay while on Defiant.

Still not enough to make a full team on either side though and Pillboxes were all but forgotten.

    [/ QUOTE ]
We had a full team villainside, and even had to turn people away at one point. The heroes in the zone certainly had enough for a full team at more than one point, but instead opted to try to solo the massing horde.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I turned up early. Got splattered a couple of times (well, got slowed into oblivion and couldn't do anything).

Then I realised that what I don't like about PvP in RV is that it's really difficult to worry about the other PCs when you're standing there and Lord Recluse arrives with a couple of buddies. I was standing in a pillbox and I lasted about two minutes. But that was only because Recluse was busy attacking the pillbox and not me.

I think (maybe) that if you really want to hold big PvP events in RV, you need to stop anyone from taking pillboxes.

Just a thought. Might be back next week.
  4. Recap: None of my characters went to Pocket D last night. (I was watching A Town Called Eureka at 9pm.)

    Just thought I'd mention it.
  5. Folks. This is stickied as a helpful hints page for roleplayers. If you want to argue about this, I suggest you create a new thread.

Otherwise, anything useful that's in this thread is going to get lost in the spam.

More Dom's too would be sweet.

Indeed. Can't have enough Doms out there

Not doing one until we get a Whip powerset.

    More corruptors.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I made a rad/rad Corrupter last night. She's level 3. Should be ready to go take a look in BB in, say, couple of months.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    I have a rad/rad Corr! Aren't they FUN?

    [/ QUOTE ]

I think I'd have to go with "give me a chance, I've played for for, like, an hour," in answer to that. She's also on Defiant, I might add. I've run out of slots on Union and I don't want to delete anything right now.

but it seems to degenerate to duelling, PvE only or running around each other with travel powers

    [/ QUOTE ]

So, just like a real fight then?
  10. I've got it, to make everything totally fair, in I9 all use of powers in PvP zones will be banned. Instead, you'll take damage from losing RPS matches.

I'd honestly have to say that I'd consider that build really sub-optimal, with or without MoG.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Why would it be suboptimal? Im propably going the no-MoG route myself with my MA/regen. Instead opting for revive, hehe.

    [/ QUOTE ]

It's not really the lack of MoG I find non-optimal, but it's probably just down to playstyle.

War Crow has Reconstruction, Dull Pain, IH, Resiliance, Tough, Revive, and MoG. I run Focussed Accuracy (3 EndRed, 3 AccBuf). I think all his attacks are fully slotted. He's lacking a good AoE since I didn't take Lotus Drops on this respec. If I wanted another attack, I could drop a Travel power (he has SS and TP), though slotting might then be an issue.

It's difficult to see a point in leaving MoG out, and I find it useful. So, really, with slotting, I have MoG or Lotus Drops. Something to think about on a PvP build, I guess, but then I'd probably be looking at a load of other changes.

Now not being set up for PVP and as a controller I didn't fancy my chances against a Regen [censored] with a rep of over 300!!

    [/ QUOTE ]

I have a badge says I once had a rep of 400. I'd imagine they've fixed that bug by now.

If im about to die and can run away I WILL RUN.

If I have insps that will get me back into the fight I WILL USE THEM.

If im on a PVP team I will expect help or help that team.

I will use whatever tactic's I can to win and accept death gracefully.

The rules are there are no rules.

The arena is the place for ruled PVP.

    [/ QUOTE ]

this should be on a sign when you enter a PvP zone... along with "dont talk about PvP Zone"

    [/ QUOTE ]

Do you think we should ask Mothers_Love if he could get a "PvP Zone" soap bar put in the Forumites Shop?
  14. Hmm, so you're working on the theory that if Integration + Instant Healing + Dull Pain (which you take very late) isn't good enough, then you'd rather just respawn?

I'd honestly have to say that I'd consider that build really sub-optimal, with or without MoG.

    Anyone else any ideas?
  15. Okay, prompted by a totally unrelated thread in Suggestions...

MoG is a controversial power. It's thematically stupid compared to the other regen powers and has remarkably little actual utility compared to some of the other Tier 9 Secondary powers.

I like it available as a panic button, but it's obviously highly situational. If your health is down to about 20%, then hitting it might keep you alive for another three minutes, which might be enough, but, especially at the levels MoG becomes available, the mobs you can use it against start getting small in number.

So, what do people do if they don't take MoG?

(Please don't turn this into another discussion about whether MoG is actually useful. That's been discussed so much it's worn grooves in my monitor.)
  16. Yeah, this was within the first couple of weeks of the PvP zones going live, not recently. I haven't been in Warburg in ages...

I tell a lie, I was in there at the weekend, very briefly. When I get the introductory missions to the PvP zones, I usually pop in, and I got one at the weekend. When he's closer to 38 I might take him for a spin (though I figure this last weekend is the first time he's gained xp in a year).
  17. [ QUOTE ]
    And well done, Raven

    [/ QUOTE ]

By the way, I wasn't after congratulations, just a cheap laugh. I am somewhat noted for being 'anti-PvP', even though that isn't actually my stance. I thought it'd be amusing to discover I'd been in there and fighting.

And Despare saved me from horrible debt! If he hadn't shown up then, I'd have got bored again and gone off to smack another pillbox. I think that would have set the AVs on me which would probably have been terminal.

PS. To be honest, I think the Heavy got Despare the first time. After that, he tried to avoid getting in range, and Crow can't fly. He was only in major danger when I caught him on the ground and almost trapped in in a knockback cycle. Hence me thinking we had a stalemate. His ranged attacks were too weak to do much damage, and with him in the air, I couldn't do much to him.
  18. [ QUOTE ]
but if you know of any power that will allow a villain safe passage past an array of Police Drones

    [/ QUOTE ]

Early on in the life of Warburg, I got AS'd by some bloke while standing on the deck of the boat. Of course, he got instantly wasted by the police drones, but he did get in there. I guess he got debt and I didn't, which would appear to make it a bit of a dubious victory, but it's clearly possible.

The lack of actual safety in the various safety zones was, afterall, why there was the campaign to move the introduction contact out of the actual PvP zone for those with a congenital dislike of PvP.
  19. 6.0! Yes, a whole 6 points!

Thanks to Despare, if he's reading this, for being the only other player in RV. Duelling a Spine Stalker against a kat/regen Scrapper with a Heavy on each side was interesting. Sorry I had to leave, but I think we were at a bit of a stalemate anyway.

Got my heart beating a bit wondering where he was. Who says computer games aren't good aerobic exercise?
  20. This is true, but it's very much worth being selective. You may see people in civilian attire who are playing their character's alter-ego. It's not a good idea to start calling them by their hero name, even if they are level 50.

Equally, to avoid a hail of 'abuse' about your roleplaying, if you are going to use this tactic it might be best to lead in with something like:

"Oh, you're War Crow, I've seen you on the news." or,
"Wow! Zortel... um... can I have your autograph, I've read all about you."

(At this point, poor Zorielle probably takes off screaming, but it's all good roleplay. )
  21. [ QUOTE ]
And I've read EVERY post in this thread. What the majority are saying is "I can deal with Heavies; you must be rubbish if you can't"

    [/ QUOTE ]

I can't level a Stalker in CoV. I've come to the conclusion that it's my fault since other people can. This doesn't make me rubbish, it makes me weak in one aspect of the game.

Just because Hammerfall is generally very good at PvP, that doesn't mean he'll be good at all aspects of PvP. Implying that this makes him rubbish is wrong, it makes the people saying it sound just like the kind of PvPer that everyone hates.

On the other hand, I think implying that everyone thinks Hammerfall is rubbish because he can't handle Heavies is probably some form of slander.

Personally, I think this thread has reached the end of its useful purpose.
  22. [ QUOTE ]
Regen doesn't really suit a avian IMO

    [/ QUOTE ]

Birds generally have a far faster metabolism than normal humans. This could be reflected in more rapid healing.

However, the same rapid metabolism concept could be used to justify an SR build and I think that fits the concept better.

It's just that it's quite possible to justify /regen with a bird-based origin story.
  23. [ QUOTE ]
great guide Z! lots of information there although i might have put a bit more about God-Modding but that's just me

    [/ QUOTE ]

    I'm bored, so...

    God Modding 101

Point 1, God Modding is not roleplaying a god, or other stupidly powerful creature, nor is it roleplaying your own character more powerful than the game would suggest. Doing so may form part of 'a God Mod', but they can also form part of perfectly reasonable roleplay.

God Modding, or God Mode Roleplay, is more like acting like a god out of character. It is deciding the results of your actions on other player's characters. An example is usually the best way to define it.

Bill: PowerMax shoots CrimsonGod in the head, killing him instantly.

Bill has not only decided what his character is doing, but also decided how it affects Ted's character, CrimsonGod. This is wrong because Bill may not know all there is to know about CrimsonGod.

The correct form looks more like this:

Bill: PowerMax aims his pistol at CrimsonGod's head and pulls the trigger.
Ted: CrimsonGod dies as his brains are splattered to the four winds.

Same result, but with better description and a far more pleasingly gory outcome. Equally though it might have been:

Ted: CrimsonGod dodges the bullet easily.

    A more subtle example:

Ted: CrimsonGod kissed PuceAvenger on the cheek.

This could be fine, if Ted is sure PuceAvenger is going to accept the kiss. If the situation is more insecure, it would be better to go for something like this:

Ted: CrimsonGod bends down to place a kiss on PuceAvanger's cheek.
Alice: PuceAvenger smiles as she accepts the kiss.

So, in summary, creating a god character so that you can force other to do what you want is God Modding, but there are a lot of more subtle ways of doing the same thing.

    Hope that helps.
  24. Of course, I can...

    [ QUOTE ]
26: Why are somepeople speaking in <Policeman: text> or the like?

That's people directing an NPC. For example:
Person A turns to the policeman. "Is that my file I needed?"
Person A: <The Policeman nods. "It is, Person A, sorry for the delay. I hope it helps.">
Person A nods and smiles. "It should, thank you."
Person A: <THe Policeman smiles and heads off.>

It can be useful when you don't have someone about to play a needed NPC.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Be aware of this, because people will do it, however, if you think you need to do it, please consider the following rules:

    1. If you think you need to do this, you don't.
    2. If you still think you need to do it, check again.
    3. If you still think you need to do it, then maybe.

Really, this stuff confuses people. Keep it to a minimum.
  25. SO, you put a note in the bio saying:

(( Anyone with high-level security clearance or access to XXX, pm me for details. ))

One of mine, Operative Seven, has something like this in her bio:

(( Those with special senses, please pm me if you are examining Operative Seven. ))

She has a weird backstory, and those able to sense some things could look at her and go "Oh, wow, did you know that..." There's text there to tell people that there's something to uncover, but if I wrote down every detail of her plot in her bio, what would be the point in playing her?

Sorry, if you write their whole bio out in detail for all the world to see, that's an exercise in making yourself feel good, demonstrating you can actually write back history for a character. Writing the back history is about roleplaying. Putting it on public display and then complaining when people use it isn't anything to do with roleplaying.
