How exactly is destroying stuff in the Rogue Isles, where it's probably already difficult to live for its citizens with poverty and supervillains around every corner, heroic?

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Ask those Terrorists in Longbow!

    [/ QUOTE ]

I wasn't aware that they broke the scenery, just ambushed the residents.
  2. (( Help, I may have to do some actual roleplaying... ))
  3. They do, rarely.

I remember Ring Mistresses used to be the bane of my life (well, and Sappers, and for the same reason) before I left. They seem to have been nerfed rather heavily since I just got all the way to Vanessa in the final Carnie Arc before I ran into trouble. May need a team for her. Anyway, these days I find Carnie missions rather rleaxing. Choppity chop and they die.
  4. Don't know about anyone else, but I did get where you were going with that.

You'll hate Seven, FFM, she has no clue about personal space, modesty, a number of other perfectly normal human reactions to other people. Not in her programming.

Doing it ICly can be dealt with ICly. By first explaining, and then emote shoving. It's the non-rpers which get my goat.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'll be watching for you being at the statue. *evil malicious grin*
  6. I believe the old technique (probably the new one too) was to run Carnie mission on Invincible with teams of 8, and not kill the Illusionist so you get multiple pet spawns.

I'll agree not to bump/shove/emote in your general direction if RPers consent to moving out of local distance of contacts and npcs I'm sent to talk to, it gives me a creepy sensation when I arrive at these people and some seriously weird text starts to creep onto my chat panel.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yeah, putting the GG meets right beside Charlie Sparks was, perhaps, a mistake from that perspective. It also gives people the chance to annoy the RPers by spam-clicking Charlie. But considering Atlas was pretty much taken up by the costume competitions and other highly OOC activities, GG seemed like the perfect place.

    Personal Space

You'll hate Seven, FFM, she has no clue about personal space, modesty, a number of other perfectly normal human reactions to other people. Not in her programming.

It only really bothers me if it's of the "stand between two people and do stupid emotes" variety. That isn't people being overly touchy, or game mechanics problems, that's just plain rude and deliberate disruption of other people's enjoyment of the game.
  9. (( Most people have asked for the data from the police reports or are out hunting the gun that Johnovich used, or should otherwise be able to find this information, so I'm mocking it up in this little story. ))

Seven unzipped her battlesuit, slipped it off her body and dumped it into a box under the sink. Her handlers would take care of repairs or replacements and she had several spares in the other box under the sink. Getting too close to that Rikti bomb had probably been a bad idea, but it had been on her route back to the precinct building and it had caused no significant damage that her repair systems were incapable of fixing. Scrapping across the road surface for a hundred metres had scuffed her suit up a lot though.

Not bothering to dress, she settled into her sleeping frame and remotely closed the latches. She was not planning to shut down, but it gave support and took the weight off her chassis for a bit. Doing it naked made the handlers give her funny looks if they came in, which she should not have really enjoyed, being an AI, but it did giver her a perverse sense of pleasure. They had given her the silly pneumatic body, they got to put up with the fact that she had no modesty programmed into her systems.

To work. She pulled up the police reports she had copied over regarding the fire bombing and the incidents surrounding it. Shuzzlemeyer had done the forensics work, which was good since he actually managed to not miss things most of the time. Simple stuff first then, the gun was a Smith & Wesson .357 Magnum revolver, but the four unfired rounds in it had been .38 standard ammo. The gun had been registered to Johnovich for just over two years. Seven had found a police report dating back to just before that time were Johnovich's flat had been broken into by Skulls. She made the mental leap that the gun had been bought for self-protection, .357's had good stopping power, but a bad kick and people would load the lower-powered .38 rounds to give better accuracy. The man had kept the weapon loaded, but with an empty chamber so it would not go off accidentally. Indeed, prior to the one shot used on Golden Vespa, the weapon showed no signs of being used.

The ignition point in the room was between Johnovich's left arm and side. No one had noticed anything before the explosion, so it was clearly a compact design. A petroleum jelly accelerant had been used, mixed with white phosphorous powder. A base explosive had distributed the fuel and ignited it, though the WP would have done the job anyway. That put the Hellions out of the picture, way too sophisticated for them. The fire had made replacing the blood samples impossible. It had reduced the body, the mattress and a good portion of the bad frame to ruins. Shuzzlemeyer had run toxicology on some bone marrow that had survived, but had come up with nothing very conclusive. Certainly there was no evidence of drug use, though there were a couple of unidentified molecule fragments. They were large, possibly organic, beyond that it was a guess. Shuzzlemeyer had also managed to verify that the body was Johnovich's, from dental records, though only from the upper jaw, the phosphorous had more or less destroyed the lower jaw.

Seven went through a list of potential perpetrators. Nemesis? Not his style. Council of Thorns? Well, it could have been magical manipulation. Carnival? Or mental manipulation. Then again there were those molecule fragments... Malta? Possible, certainly their style. Council? Maybe, but their methods usually seemed more direct, Mech Men and over-sized wolfmen. The old 5th Column employed more spies and coverts than the Council seemed to, but they were inoperative now, according to her intel.

Speculation was all well and good, but she did not have enough information to narrow the search parameters. She opened the latches on her frame and went to the sink to get a fresh suit. Johnovich's apartment... that was the next target.
  10. Absolutely nothing to do with PvP.

Not the terminals in the arenas, the things you see on street corners with the turning metal gizmos on top. No one really uses them because they are a total waste of an animation. Though I do recall actually topping the list of kills for something in one zone once. (Which shows how easy it was to do, frankly.)
  11. I believe the term 'need' in the above post should be replaced with 'want'.

I dunno, 'need' seems... too needy.
  12. I will never get 500 of those. Not in a million years.
  13. You don't think, maybe, that heroes are not supposed to be destroying the furniture?

Now, if they made objects destroyable in Safeguard missions and then deducted time when you destroy it... that would be more in keeping.

Perhaps a Colateral Damage badge which reduces your Inf gain by 5% since the populace have come to see you as a destructive lout.

    PUG Fun!

Have to say that my overall experience of PuGs was poor, which is why I don't do them. PuG = death and/or frustration.

The only character I've ever done successful PuGs with was my Empath, and even there I remember a delightful run where the entire team seemed determined to commit suicide at the first possible oportunity.

While the phonetic spelling is bad enough, I find the ones where various members say absolutely nothing are worse.
  15. Well, currently, the kill badges don't have a scale, and I don't think it should.

Zookeeper needs 1000 Rikti Monkeys (was 10,0000, see Mother's Empath badge thread). The Croatoa kill badges require slightly silly numbers of hits as well, IIRC. There are a few others with bigger numbers and they are a boring PiiA to get.
  16. Walking.

Yes, it's a QoL issue. I am fed up of having to tap movement keys repeatedly so that I don't overshoot things or get too close to the edge or whatever when being able to walk in the game would make careful movement far easier.

    Personal buff deactivation

Unless this already got added, if I've been buffed, right clicking on the buff icon should offer me the option to remove that buff. For all those helpful folks who speed boost newbies to watch them slam into walls, or even the ones who think it's helpful, but don't realise that it isn't always.

    Metal Armour

    [ QUOTE ]
Yeah, mainly to make up for the fact you won't have all the toggles till lvl 26. Also the toggles build up on each other.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'd suggest looking at existing powers then, before trying to design your own. Auto powers never give large amounts of anything and they certainly should not give more resist than toggles. Your concept is deeply flawed if you think you need that.

It's also flawed in the idea of adding +recover to overcome the toggle-heavy nature of the build. Take Dark Armour: it is toggle-heavy and the way you deal with that is to slot up Stamina and don't run all the toggles at the same time. It requires thought and some skill.

And why should having metal armour make you recover endurance faster? Thematically it makes no sense. If anything, wearing big sheets of metal will make you get tired faster.

    The The

It's possible, since it's currently 'The' or nothing, that this db field is a single bit, so they would need to change that and all references to it to something else, which would make it a bit more likely to cause problems than you would imagine.

Doesn't make it a bad idea.
  22. Shadow Shard could certainly do with some exploration badges. And they could be put in some very, very obscure places. Maybe they have put them there and no one has ever found them.

    THE network file storage solution.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Aye, but it still has the term 'network' in it. Give me dedicated channels any day. Mind you, I learned disc systems from the guys that used to optimise subsystems at Tandem. They had the best clustering technologies in the world.
  24. [ QUOTE ]
So basically if they change the pre-requisites for getting the badge any progress into the badge as it was is lost?? That's harsh - surely there must be a way round it???

    [/ QUOTE ]

No, what was meant was that if they change the required amount of healing to a lower level, they are devaluing the achievement of those who got it at the higher level.

They have done this before with the Zookeeper badge which used to require some stupidly enormous amount of Rikti Monkeys to get and suddenly got cut resulting in various people who were working on it logging in to be granted it instantly. However, that was done because the game mechanics changed, as explained in Mumsy's quote: it became harder to kill vast numbers of monkeys, so changing the number required did not make it easier to get the badge.
