I suppose that could be classed as QoL features but that's game improvement right there without new content and minimal dev time.
[/ QUOTE ]
Um, don't make assumptions about the amount of dev time required to fix things like that. If a bug still exists after being on live for two years or so, then it obviously isn't easy to replicate. 'Lag' is one of those horrible generic terms that is generally the result of something horribly complex, or it would require a total server engine overhaul. The invite thing sounds simple enough, but you still don't know how much effort would be required to fix it. -
This is a superhero game, it only comes with extra cheescake.
-
In-keeping with the new advert system, the new power will allow you to order donuts from Krispy Kream online.
(Donuts, not pizza. Pizza's been done and we do have a nice in-game donut shop.)

What range are Spines attacks?
[/ QUOTE ]
Impale has a range of 40', Throw spines, 30' everything else is the standard 5'.
[/ QUOTE ]
Hmmm... would Spines work with a Shield? It's going to look odd. -
Cimerora reminds me of Carry on Cleo.
Scene: Rome, the slave auctions. Slaver is trying to sell his new, British, slaves to a customer.
Slaver: Look at this fine specimin, plenty of muscle, and I'm sure he has skills. (to slave) What did you do back home?
Slave: I was a hunter.
Slaver: There, see, a hunter. What did you hunt?
Slave: Romans.
Anyway, how can you trust a bloke called Imperious? You just know he's got airs and graces. -
What range are Spines attacks?
Not saying I like it as a melee set, cos I don't. It would mean 'rewriting' the concept behind Scrappers/Tankers/Brutes/Stalkers, which is that they are melee characters.
Of course there's that 'proposed' Spy AT and they could do anything with that.
But even if they did, dual pistols would not work with Shields. -

BTW, London, I think Combat Invis is "real" invis - IIRC Hyper Steath, the temp power from the lower level PvP zone is the stealth one.

They are identical powers with different names. I have both on one of the characters I'm currently levelling. -

Gun Kata = dual pistols/SR.

*shoots you in the face*
NO!
[/ QUOTE ]
*Is not where the bullet goes, when it passes.* (ranged +DEF will do that for you)
If you're referring to the final fight sequence with the wing chun-style batting the gun away, then there is precedent for including that into an offensive set. Katana and BS have their parry powers, which cause +DEF on a successful hit.
Good grief people, it's a fantasy game! It's the absolute epitome of cinematic combat. Yes, Gun Kata as it stands is a load of baloney, but it fits most effictively into a comic book genre game.
And it would not work with Shields. -

As I predicted in the other thread, I think we're basically going to be designing the missions from a single page of dropdown menus (somewhat like the costume creator is now), with a few fields to enter briefing/debriefing/boss text.
[/ QUOTE ]
All the evidence would indicate that this is not how it's going to be, unless the mission editor used by the mission design team is that simple... which I doubt.
Hang on a sec and I'll find the quote... Here we go...
[ QUOTE ]
With virtually no information to go on, some people very much underestimated what would be possible with the Mission Architect. Some got it spot on, and some people wanted features that were simply impossible to get into the system at launch. Even so, we are very proud of the system as it stands. Players can make their own story arcs using a customised version of the tool used by our mission writers, in some cases rivalling our own internal tools in ease-of-use. I am really looking forward to playing the stories you all create with this amazing tool!
[/ QUOTE ]
That's from Positron's address. The 'basic set of drop-downs' approach simply does not fit what he's saying. -
[ QUOTE ]
nope, gun kata has a lot more to it than pointing guns forward and shooting one or the other... which is what dual pistols is and would be if they introduced it right now as a set...
[/ QUOTE ]
Gun Kata is a martial art (though I doubt anyone has actaully done the study to make it real) based upon the bu-jitsu style of multiple martial forms. Training is given in unarmed forms, kenjutsu, iaijutsu, and effective use of ballistic weapons. This is combined with statistical study of combat situations to determine the most likely reactions of combatants and reduce the probability of being hit in a fire fight.
To incorporate all of that into a single set, or even a pair of sets, is unlikely.
Making 'dual pistols' as you describe would be, frankly, waste. I would expect a number of AoE attacks with swept autofire, as well as some straight single and double shot (or burst) attacks. To be 'gun kata' it would also need a barrage of defensive abilities and these are better off put into a second set. To be honest, I think SR covers it nicely since the principle is simply that of avoiding being hit by not being where the bullets are. -

The Broadsword katana is unlockable by killing Tsoo.
[/ QUOTE ]
Well that's dumb. I need to recreate my 50 as a BS user and kill a lot of Tsoo. I always hated the fact that katana is left-handed. It's just wrong.
PS. Katana and shield is just wrong too, to be honest. -

There's been a bit of discussion about this 5-6 missions thing, and in my opinion I belive that while that may be the maximum you can have on the live game servers at one time. Surely you'll be able to remove them as well. And don't forget that they probably mean 5-6 arcs rather than just individual missons.
[/ QUOTE ]
Well, I hope it means arcs, but don't bet on it.
I can see the reason for this, from a practical standpoint, but I've been wondering how the system would be made relatively useless to roleplayers, and this looks like it.
To unlock content, you need rated arcs. To get ratings, you need arcs available to play long term. Roleplayers need a lot of arcs and if there is a fairly small limit on the number you can have, no roleplayer is ever going to get a good rating, so they will never unlock any of the higher content.
Oh well. Hey ho. -

If you want a shield + katana style you can make BS/Shield scrapper and select a katana model for your broadsword.
[/ QUOTE ]
Only if they change the models available, and I can't see why they would. Currently, the broadsword customisation list does not include a katana model, or even anything vaguely like one. (It also doesn't include anything like a Chinese wu shu broadsword, which I'm a bit dissapointed about. I just ran my level 6 BS Scrapper over to IP Icon to check this out and she can't have a chinese-style sword.)

I run a couple of other fora, and that doesn't look like an option although I'm using pretty basic apps.

It's a PHP package. They've modified it such that it uses in-game authentication for forum membership. I should imagine they could arrange some other game-related titles be made available if they felt like it. -

Out of sheer curiosity, is there anywhere that lists the forum titles?

Or go read Positron's Address on I13. Down the bottom you'll see a paragraph on the Cyborg Pack, which is your booster pack.

talking to a friend once who was describing a computer problem and he comes out with the phrase "and the drive was just filled with a huge 100.2 gig T X T file" ... seriously, why say the letters TXT.... it stands for TEXT.. dropping a vowel and adding two syllables does NOT make it shorter!
[/ QUOTE ]Because a "TXT file" clearly means .txt, while a "text file" could be .txt, .doc, .odf, or several other formats.

Indeed. Precision is often mistaken for geekishness. -
Most true. The two sequels had considerably better storylines and very much better scripting.
Oddly, the best bit of the main NwN2 campaign was a sub-game which had you building up a ruined castle into a working fortress. Quite satisfying. Sadly, your efforts have almost no effect on the battle that happens there. -

Another thing I would like if to be able to pay the rent on a SG base automatically before shutdown, its annoying having to go to pay it, specially if you don't got permission and have to search for a leader. Maybe there could a check somewhere to enable or disable it.

I have this vision of City Admin Form Z47-D, SG Base Direct Debits. -

Yes because, you know, any wet-behind-the-ears-player can, in like 10 minutes, think of something that the whole team of developers, who are gaming professionals with years of experience, have not thought in the several months that they have spent developing this feature. Of course.
...
I am of the opinion that believing any of us is more clever than the collective brains of all the developer team is...well... a bit arrogant.
[/ QUOTE ]
Well, taking NwN as an example of what player-created content is like, there will be vast amounts of dross and some absolute gems. There will be players out there who are just as creative as the designers at NCSoft if not more so in a few, rare, cases.
It will not require ten minutes, it will take a whole lot longer. Good NwN modules are crafted over months, just like good missions and arcs in CoH. Frankly, I don't expect that the Mission Architect will be even a patch on the flexibility of the NwN module Editor, but no arc worth playing is going to take less than a week or so to build.
Assuming that the playerbase contains no one with the creativity and skill to make arcs as good or better than the ones NCSoft have designed is kind of inverted arrogance. There will be good stuff out there, the question is whether we will be able to find it amongst the heaps of no-story mob bashes.
As an aside, perhaps we should run a sweepstake on how many modules have to be written before the first non-Freakshow one comes out... -

Dual Pistols!
