  1. I've always found a number of reasons behind Tanker Tuesdays.

    A. It's fun to run around not worrying so much about keeping others on your team alive. (What, no squishies? )

    B. It's a nice way to show off your tank to other tank enthusiasts.

    C. It's a great way to see how well other builds/combination's perform and to get ideas for new tanks.

    D. It's a great spot to ask questions about tanks and tank builds, especially for those that don't come to the forums or prefer not to ask on the forums.

    E. It's been great for showing that yes, tanks can do enough DPS to deal with most, if not all the content in the game.

    F. It's a fun social event if nothing else.

I'm sure there are a few things I'm missing.
  2. I was about to say. Ko Oni II, my Fire/Fire/Pyre tank hit lvl 50 over two years ago and is still one of my favorite toons to play. I've even posted what his build is/was a few times in the Tank forums.
  3. Frankenslotting is taking Set IO's from different sets to boost the stat numbers like Accuracy and Damage instead of shooting for set bonuses.

An example would be slotting Dull Pain with Heal/End/Recharge IO's from the Miracle, Numina's, Doctored Wounds and Harmonized Healing sets to boost all three stats as high as possible in four slots. Not that I would would prefer to do this, but this is an example.
  4. All of it?

I'll echo what's already been said, welcome to the nut house. If you haven't been informed or figured it out yet, Justice United and JFA2010 are the more popular global channels on Justice with JU being more family friendly, if you care.

Hope you have lots of fun.
  5. I tend to vary my settings depending on the toon. More AoE based toons will go +0/x8 or +1/x8 taking advantage of the AoE's. Single target based toons will go +2/x3 or higher, taking advantage of the Single Target attacks. None of my tanks are set to do uber damage so it's all about how quickly the individual toon can go through the missions. If it seems like a nice pace, I keep it where it's at. If it's slow, I'll make it easier. If it's too quick or boring, I make it harder.

If I'm getting killed every mob... well, that means I need to fix the tank.
  6. As I mentioned in the OP, I had already switched out the Power supply for a newer, more robust supply. I had been planning on making that upgrade anyway, but not this soon.
  7. Hadn't found anything behind the Motherboard that might have shorted things out.

No Molex or any other other things shorting out to case that I could see/find.

Pulled all the unnecessary connections and the daughter cards and still nothing. Even disconnected all but the power cord to insure no peripheral was causing an issue.

No smell of pc board burning, and I'm familiar with that "aroma". Fortunately that's never been one of my computers.

Thanks for throwing out more ideas. Much appreciated.

    Chain Induction?

I'll ditto what Flint mentioned. I've seen it hit everyone in a mob of 4 or larger more often then not.

    My first build

Unless you're planning on getting specific set bonuses, slotting more then 3 heal enhancements in Fast Healing or more then 3 End Mods in Quick Recovery will gain you very little.

The reason behind this is Enhancement Diversification, also known as ED. This is from the web page I linked, specifically concerning Schedule A enhancements (which both end mod and heal are part of):
Specifically, if you put six even-level Single Origin enhancements in one power, they will enhance the power to the following degree: 33.33%, 33.33%, 28.33%, 4.99%, 4.99%, 4.99%.
So you can see that adding in a 4th, 5th, or even 6th Heal or End Mod to either of those powers will give you such a tiny bonus compared to first three slots. The bonuses are even smaller for Schedule B enhancements.

Since it becomes such a minor bonus to the power, it's better to use the slots elsewhere.

    Yea I'm grasping straws here.

Edit: The good news it looks like it uses a standard microATX motherboard. This should work as a reasonable replacement with the exception of a single old style keyboard/mouse port instead of two. The only unknowns are the cabling to the case (power, reset, front ports, etc) and replacing the IO plate for the new motherboard but it should be straight forward.
I think the motherboard you linked to was the one I was considering. I certainly didn't want to go to a G31 chipset and was looking to see if there was a newer Motherboard that would work with the processor, etc.

Funny you should say that. Once the comment was made that it might be a memory issue I did something very close to that.

    A. Switched the RAM between positions.

    B. Tried each stick of RAM by itself in the primary memory slot.

I still didn't get the computer to power up again. So I'm thinking my first supposition was correct and that my MoBo has died... Thanks again for the feedback.
  12. Well, if I can actually get the system to turn back on I'll give the memtest a try.
  13. Before going out of town for business last week I shut down my gaming system. I didn't want it running unattended for the 5 days I'd be gone. Returning home from the trip I went to power the system up. It sort of started, then rebooted a few times before not powering up at all. I checked all the connections inside and everything was fine and tried starting it back up; this time it did for a bit.

Everything was fine until I tried running the game. The computer again rebooted a few times, before not powering back on. Opening up the computer again, I pulled all the power connections, ram and daughter cards and re-seated everything. Lo and behold, it started up again just fine, even to the point I could run the game. I logged in a few characters, responded to a few tells and proceeded to shut down the game. When the game closed the computer again rebooted itself a few more times, and again, wouldn't power on.

Now I was thinking it was possible that my power supply was going bad. I replaced the 400w supply with a beefier 500w Antec Earth Watts. Unfortunately I've come up with similar results. The system would boot up and run for a bit, then would reboot wanting to go into Windows Safe Mode, or go to a previous config. I tried both with mixed results, but the computer never would properly get back into Windows (Vista). Right now the system won't turn on. When I hit the power button the CPU fan shifts like it's received a little bit spike of voltage, but the rest of the system doesn't respond at all. It could be a flaky power switch, but there are other reasons why I think it might be the motherboard.

The computer I have is a Gateway FX7026 system that's been pretty serviceable as a gaming system since I bought it. (the only upgrade has been the new PSU I mentioned) I'd removed the factory OC on the graphics card using Riva Tuner a few years ago as the newer drivers created instability while playing the game. Removing the OC made things stable.

There have been a few issues over the last few months that lead me to believe it's the motherboard being the problem. I use a KVM switch between my laptop and desktop and a few months ago I noticed that the USB on the desktop wouldn't find the keyboard and mouse anymore when switching back to the desktop. (Power settings hadn't been changed ) Placing an older Wacom tablet into one of the USB ports as a dummy load seemed to resolve the issue. I also realized a couple of weeks ago that the computer was no longer seeing the second hard drive. I hadn't had a chance to look into that before I went out of town.

So, does this sound like a MoBo issue, or am I missing something else? Thanks for your feedback and assistance.
  14. There is also the possibility someone, not the ISP, called them so that they would panic and give up their contact information etc. Nice phishing tactic.
  15. JFA2010 and Justice United are the two main channels on Justice. Both are great for finding teams, TF/SF, etc.
  16. Oblits work better for you in Shield Charge and I'd put a full set of Mako's in Haymaker. That would give you totals of 48.5%/50.4%/48.5% Melee/Ranged/AoE.

If you want to spend the cash, change out all the LotG Defense/Recharges for the LotG 7.5% recharge IO. You won't lose any defense, but you'll gain global recharge. I'd do the same on the Def/End you've got in Combat Jumping as CJ really doesn't need an end redux. If you do that you could slot Touch of the Nictus in Jab and push your melee defense to 52.3% since you've made up for the recharge bonus you'd lose when you switch out the Crushing Impact IO's.

You'll probably have endurance issues as it stands, but try and get the +end accolades to help with that. (Portal Jockey and The Atlas Medallion)
  17. Interestingly enough, the two builds you show aren't slotted exactly the same.

If you slot a total of 3 lvl 50 resist IO's each into Deflection, True Grit and Tough, a Shield Defense tank will end up with 47.5% resist s/l and 23.8% to e/n/f/c. If you slot a Brute in the same manner you will end up with 35.7% s/l resist and 17.8% to e/n/f/c. Which is of course is an 11.8% difference vs. the 6% difference you showed in your two examples.

Now considering that without putting any enhancements into the baseline tank or brute, and including having taken health, a tank will be sitting at around 2436 hit points vs. a brute at 2061. Taking your 1000pts of s/l damage example, the tank will only be taking 525pts of damage compared to the brute taking 643pts of damage.

Why is that important? Well, 525 pts of damage is only 21.6% of the tanks hit points while 643 pts of damage is around 31.2% of of the brutes. So for the damage that does get through the defenses, the tank will survive quite a bit longer.

In the long run it comes down to preference in play styles. Some prefer the ability to survive more damage, some prefer to output more damage. For me, while I don't put out as much damage as a scrapper or brute, I tend to prefer the shear survivability of a tank. Considering my usual main is a Fire/Fire/Pyre tank, I'm still putting out lots of orange numbers.

  19. I'd like to throw out what might be an interesting pair to the discussion.

Dark/Fire tank and a Fire Blast/Dark Miasma Corruptor. Lots of stacked fear, lots of fire damage. Lots of synergy between Dark Aura and Dark Miasma, at least in my mind.

    Leaving the game

Sorry to see you guys going for your individual reasons. Best of luck to both of you in the real world.
  21. One of my first expectations when we started hearing about the incarnate system was that we would be earning incarnate slots. IE. Enhancement slots that would ONLY allow for Incarnate enhancements to be placed in them, and that we would be able to earn up to 10 slots. Maybe a bit too "hopeful" on my part. (Seems I read something into the information that wasn't there.)

Back to the original post. I know I mentioned what I was going to change on my Fire/Fire tank, but have a few other tanks that will get updated as well.

My SD/SS will end up getting Hasten, Conserve Power and Physical Perfection.

My Dark/Dark tank will re-aquire Salt Crystals, gain Quick Sand and Soul Transfer.

My Stone/Stone tank will gain Physical Perfection, and probably Teleport Foe and Maneuvers. Still not 100% sure about this but it's currently where I'm leaning.

My Inv/DM will gain Resist Energies, Resist Elements and Unstoppable.

And I'll stop my list here for now.
  22. If I get home from work in time, I'll do what I can to assist.
  23. I could only hope that if I was put in such a situation I could be as heroic.
  24. Someone recently pointed out this thread to me and it's a nice QoL trick. Since I use my number keypad for movement instead of the Arrow keys, I couldn't use the pad for pet emotes like most do. So now, instead of having a tray full of macros for pet emotes, I've set up a popmenu for those emotes.
  25. According to information coming out of the City of Heroes PAX panel last night, the fitness pool is going to become an inherent when i19 goes live. You'll still be able to add slots to it like you normally would, but now you'll be freeing up power selections that you may have taken to get stamina, etc. According to the information, characters already created will need to be respec'd to gain this change. So be aware that this is coming down the pike when you're looking at your builds.

I know my Fire/Fire/Pyre tank will be the first I'll change. I was already planning to respec the toon with the changes to FA, but I'll be holding off a bit longer. Unless I change my mind I'm planning on adding in Taunt, Temp Protection (for a mule spot), and more then likely Rise of the Phoenix to replace the three powers selections that the fitness pool took up. (Combat Jumping also looks tempting as does Hasten, but we'll see.)

How will this change your tank(s)?
