  1. What is it about the last three choices that makes you "uncomfortable"?
  2. If you're interested, here is a link to the wiki page talking about Invention IOs, Sets and Set Bonuses, Uniques, Proc's and how they scale within the game.

The information pertaining to your original question is further down the page under "Special IOs from Sets" and reiterates what Dechs has already mentioned.

Seriously, I do plan on making one. Like I said, though, it'll be "The MFing Dark Armor Guide," not a guide on how to play DA on a tank.

    Fix'd

  5. I started my Dark/Dark tank the same day i12 came live and was interested in everyone's input on them. If I recall correctly, Jebe's threads/posts about DA for tanks garnished the most attention/conversation at that time. He was one of the few people who had a clearer vision of the potential for DA on a tank, and was willing to promote that vision. (Which is why I believe in the end he created his DA guide for tanks.)

Just like now, Dechs is one of the folks who's willing to promote the vision that DA for tanks, built correctly, can be a monster of a tank. Both of them have different viewpoints on how to get there, not horribly diverse, just different.

For example, unlike Nalrok, I don't have Soul Transfer on my DA/DM because I couldn't fit it in to the build. So far I've found that I rarely need it. (Once i19 hits I will be able to fit it back into the build for those rare occasions.) Does that make my build better or worse then Nalrok's? Nope, just different. My build works for me, their build works for them and that's all that really matters.

I will always state that you should take a look at everyone's input on a build and find what works best for you, the individual player. What I think makes the build better doesn't necessarily mean it makes it better for you, or them. Read Jebe's guide. Read Dechs' posts. Read everyone's input on builds and find your own way.
  6. Without knowing the "bigger picture", IE your build, I couldn't make a good suggestion.
  7. Whoops. I missed the comment about repel in Dechs' post. I was just thinking that the heal needed to be better and was agreeing to that part. My bad.
  8. DA can be an Endurance Hog if not slotted well. My Dark/Dark tank runs 10 toggles for most fights and I only turn off the 10th one(Super Speed) in longer fights. I will occasionally use Dark Consumption, but most of the time as an attack, not to refill my end bar.

I do use Oppressive Gloom on both my DA/DM and my DA/Ele and the amount of hp loss isn't as great as I would have originally believed. On the incompletely IO'd DA/DM my regen is high enough that I barely notice a blip on the HP bar in a full crowd. It's also not presenting an issue on my DA/Ele. Even without a lot of Stun synergy OG continues to take most minions out of the fight, if not all of them. Getting it on the DA/Ele upped his survivability greatly.
  9. I'm hoping you do realize I was making a joke, albeit a bit at your expense.
  10. But Dechs' said "Dark Armor sucks. It can't tank anything".....

While it is true that SD gets you quite close to the Soft cap (positionally) at a bit over 40% with CJ and Weave you're not sitting at it or over it without additional help. So as easy as SD is to get you soft capped, EA with tank modifiers would be that much easier. In my mind to easily.

Again, not saying I wouldn't like to see it ported over to tanks.

I also like Dechs' ideas for changing it up for tanks.
  12. Probably because they're trying to figure out how to bring EA to tanks without it being to over powered. If you look at the typical difference in defensive multipliers, where scrapper/brute defenses are 3/4 as strong as tanks numbers, it would be extremely easy to soft cap an EA tank.

Translating ED capped brute defensive numbers with tank modifier's would get you around 34% S/L. Everything except Neg would be even higher, with Neg still coming in around 29.7%. Adding in the ED capped tank versions of Combat Jumping and Weave would add more then 10% to everything. So without adding in IO's you'd be soft capped to all types except Neg. and that would be sitting around 40%.

It's not that I wouldn't like to see Energy Aura come to tanks, but I'm sure there would be changes to keep it from being that easy to soft cap.

If/when Energy Aura does get ported over, I'm hoping that they will implement a "Force Field" look as an alternate animation.

I have commitee obligations in the Real World that I cant comment on what is going down at my office. Just because I can't comment, doesn't mean that I wont take my co-workers suggestions about the project. The committee I am on is in the very early stages and we are just not ready for the company at large for input yet. This is the same here. Give Dead_West and Turbo a bit of room to get this off the ground.

When they are ready and have a charter done, then all of the base builders can work together instead of fighting and back stabbing. There have been some great suggestions posted to get bases some love but if we dont have a unified voice, we all all cattle in the field mooing to a different tune. Now, if we all mooed and moved together, don't you think it will get noticed more?

I have known Dead for a while and I trust that Dead has our back. Let's see what he can do without ripping his idea down.

    Matt

First of all, as a friend of mine from the south would say "I have no dog in this hunt". In other words, yes I'd like to see bases get some love, but I really don't have an opinion on what happens.

I think your business analogy isn't quite right Matt, as within a business it is expected to keep things within the committee. I would look at bases more like the neighborhood park that was a nice place when it was first opened, but without a lot of attention over the years it's become full with weeds, bushes and a bit run down.

I get the feeling that over the last few years most of the base building community has viewed the lack of attention to bases as if the Dev's have scheduled someone to clean up the "park" once a year, with the occasional painting of a sign or building. Although they did remove a fence(raid pathing) recently.

Everyone in the neighborhood has been trying to get the city council to fix the park, but for the most part very little has been done in recent years. Everyone has an "idea" of how to fix the park up, but the city has been quiet on "if and or when" it's going to do anything. So now, Turbo and Sidhe have stated they've got the city council's "ear" and the park will get some love and attention and will make the park "better".

    Awesome right?

Well, maybe. What is their idea of making it "better"?

    • Are they going to turn that park into a skater's park?
    • A kid play area, ie very family friendly?
    • Pave it and turn it into basketball or tennis courts?
    • Make it more of a artistic place with a big old fountain in the middle, and add a wi-fi hotspot?
    • Are they going to turn it into a baseball or soccer field?
    • Maybe one big dog park?
    • What about a pea patch were everyone can grow their own stuff?
    • Are they going to make it a runner's park with lots of paths?
    • Golf! Maybe it should be a community golf course?
    • Are they going to just mow the lawns, trim the bushes and cut down a few trees?
    • Maybe they'll just pave it and make it a Park and Ride; to heck with the original park.
As you can see, without REALLY knowing what the "committee" is thinking, the community is left wondering what will happen with their "beloved park".

Right now, no one knows what the Committee (Turbo, Sidhe, etc.) are pushing to do. Is it more of the same (A few more elements to play with occasionally)? An upgrade to the park having a few elements making it more useful (better base building tools on top of more elements)? Is it something the community never wanted (bases are now a PvP zone), or are they pushing for it to be paved over for a Park and Ride (get rid of everything except teleporters and be done with it)?

Until the community understands what the committee is planning on pushing forward with, the community will dread that the worst can and will happen without "their voice". It's like having a politician say "trust me to represent you!" without knowing what they stand for or who they are. (I don't think so!)
  14. Thanks once again for everyone's input on this.

The new motherboard arrived a couple of weeks ago, but I couldn't get the original Hard Drive to boot up into Windows.

I loaded up the windows recovery software off the other partition, and was in the midst of that when the power cable got knocked loose, screwing things up more.

I downloaded the recovery DVD from Microsoft, but with what had already happened with the first round of recovery software, the HD no longer showed a valid Windows installation and the software couldn't do anything. Great. I ended up ordering the full recovery/reinstallation disk from the OEM (Gateway), and purchased a new Seagate 500gb drive so that I wouldn't lose any/more data off of the original drive.

Double checking the new motherboard to insure that it was good, I grabbed the HD out of my wife's computer (AMD3 system), and plopped it in my computer(Intel Core2Quad). It worked perfectly. Throwing it back into her system gave me the delightful BSOD. Fortunately I could get it back into Win safe mode. Doing a bit of research it turned out that my new motherboard had created a reg change on her HD that would cause Windows to lock up if it didn't see an Intel processor. Gee, thanks Intel.

Once the OEM Windows installation software showed up, I got the system up and running with the new hard drive. The original drive was seen, but showed up as needing to be formatted. After trying a few data recovery trial software packages that I found via zdnet/cnet, I was able to get nearly all my original data back. It didn't cost me the $1/gb one of them wanted to charge. As for my original back up/secondary drive, the system isn't seeing that at all, so it's going to become a paperweight/door stop, or just get recycled. Not sure what I'm going to do with the original main drive yet.

In the end it's possible that it wasn't my original MoBo that was dying but the original HD, even though it showed no errors when "chdsk'ed" on my wife's system. But for now, I have a few newer components that will hopefully keep the system running longer.

At least the upgrade that I'd done to my wife's system before I jumped into fixing mine went perfect.
  15. This is how I view the change;

    • More options = greater flexibility in your build(s)/character(s).
    • Making fitness an inherent = more options.
    • Seeing inherent fitness as a bad thing = inflexibility on your part.
  16. Personally I'll grab whatever set(s) work best for the build. Sometimes that means grabbing a set of Gaussian's for it's bonuses, or a partial set and throw in recharge IO's. Sometimes it's Eradication w/ Rectifying Reticle. Sometimes it's Rectyfying w/ Adjusted Targeting. Sometimes even greater franken-slotting. Sometimes that just means 3 recharge IO's.

It depends on what I'm looking for out of the set/build.

    Uhm...

    Uhm...

    I don't think I have a tank there....

    MUST fix that.
  18. I have a lvl 50 Dark/Dark and a lvl 28ish Dark/Elec. Both work well in their pairing. I would expect that Dark/Fire and Dark/KM would also work well. Considering what Dechs has done with his Dark/Fire, very well.
  19. With the recent ability to change Dark Armor's effects, it's not as much of an over powering look any more.
  20. Happy Birthday Ice. Have a cool one.
  21. Unless my work schedule changes I should be around for the invasion.
  22. What you're not listening to Poker Face or Alejandro?

So... did I get those stuck in your head now?
  23. No biggy. I didn't think you'd called me out at all.

I figured a goofy explanation would help.
  24. I debated using "most" vs "all", but since I have no knowledge of a successful all tank Hami, Kahn, or CoP it's hard to say all.

I'm not saying they haven't happened, just that I'm not aware of them happening.

    Da/em

DA/ELM isn't a no no build. I've got one sitting in the mid 20's and yes, it was a bit end heavy to start with, but once I got stamina it's evened out better.

Even though some folks (like Nuclear Medicine) don't like Oppressive Gloom, it does work well with ELM's few stuns.

The things I've focused on with my DA tanks are the following: more endurance management (set bonuses, unique/special IO's, and powers), recharge (getting dark regen up more often) and as much resistance/defense as I can muster without gimping the toon.

    Recommendations to start with:
In Dark Regen: Theft of Essence: Chance for +end, with some additional end redux.
In your Primary or pool powers somewhere:a Steadfast Unique Res/Defense.
Also somewhere in your primary/pool: at least one -kb IO (Karma, Steadfast, or Botz), if not 3 for a total of 12 kb resist.
