Quote:A handy tool indeed. That's how I found out quickly that Hamster never had the misfortune of being involved in a Rangle... er.. uhm... team.Ctrl + F brings up search in most browsers (and most text-based applications in general).
Not trying to be a jerk about it, just letting you know it's a handy tool. -
Quote:No that is not what I'm saying at all. Although I feel that people are telling me that I should have an emotional attachment and Im suppose to feel like them and since I dont feel like them, I dont care about the game, I'm an NCSoft employee, and etc. No one is trying to understand me while I tried to understand them. Hey, they resorted to insults so I stopped trying to understand them just as they are trying to tnot understand me. They drew the lines of, people that want to join the COHTitan and everyone else that is a heartless ncsoft employee. So how am I suppose to try to understand them if they dont have the courtesy to do the same?
Just as you said, feeling like them, aint going to happen. I'm not going to fake it. And I'm not joining COHtitan regardless even if I was in grief over the game, I think they are not good for the cause but that is my opinion. But since I wasnt drinking the kool-aid, they didnt bother trying to understand me.
So as long as people wont try to understand me and label me things because I'm not attached to the game as much as they are, then how am I supposed to try to understand them why am I expected to keep trying if they wont even try to. See, I applaud you for trying to understand and I appreciate it, and many others could have simply done the same and it probably would of went something like this. But nope, they basically catergorized the people into two groups. Them vs the rest. And I made three posts saying maybe both sides can stop the nonsense and get back to the way that it used to be at least going out as one but think anyone even acknowledge it? Hell no. But as soon as some one says "well I dont think Plan Z is going to work." They are on those statements like flies on crap. Funny think is that many acknowledge that plan z may not work but since it's not one of them saying it, it's a problem. No one that I know of said that they hope that Plan Z fail and etc. or hope is stupid or have emotions or lack of like me or else.
How do you explain the colors of the rainbow to someone who's colorblind? How does someone who's colorblind explain how they see colors?
Communication lies within a common ground, and sometimes it's difficult to find that on both sides of a conversation. Once certain assumptions are made by any one party it can be very difficult to change views about what "may or may not have been said/implied." It's possible, but not always easy. If "you" can't step back and re-evaluate the original assumption, how can "you" find better communication? -
The greatest likelihood is we will never truly know what was offered for the game by anyone one faction (credible or not), how much NcSoft wanted for the game, or how profitable/unprofitable the game really was. NDAs have a way of keeping information like that under wraps from any first hand sources.
What we will get is more information leaked from "Anonymous sources" which will always lead to skepticism. Anything beyond that is pure speculation based on what little we do know. Depending on what accounting tricks NcSoft may, or may not have used, even the numbers we do "know" may not reflect the total truth.
For the Plan Z folks, I wish them the best of luck. It's certainly an endeavor I wouldn't take on, but more power to them. I have no idea if they'll succeed or not, but they've got a very steep hill to climb to find that success. If they fail, I can only hope they learn from it. Should they succeed, good for them. People do amazing things all the time when they put their will and beliefs behind it. (By belief, I do mean beyond religious connotations. ) -
My take on it is this, instead of an expected, "we can't help you with this" response, he received lawyer speak "we can't discuss this at this time." or whatever it was he quoted.
It's not the communication tree I would have used, but I can see why he may have felt he'd received, what I would say is, an "unusual response".
As an FYI, I was working on this before Avel's last post... -

Happy 10th Birthday, TheNet. Now you're old enough to go out and train to be a Pokemon Master. It's time for you to go pick your very first Pokemon!
(This is funny because he's actually 14 years old).
Happy Birthday TheNet. -

You're references to the blogger used the terms "he" and "guy". Unless I'm missing something, the note at bottom points to the blogger in questions as being a she. That's all I was trying to point out. -
Quote:From the bottom of that blog:You missed the point big time. Sure in the blog (if you read it) he does mention a bit on the sexualization, but it's mostly about proportions. I wont put words on the guy's mouth but basically he is talking about the artist in charge of the design, not about the game in general. Here is a quote from the blog:
Quote:About wundergeek
In addition to being a cranky feminist blogger, I am an artist, photographer, and somewhat half-***** writer living in the wilds of Canada with a wonderful spouse and two slightly broken cats. -
Quote:I look at it as if I've got a friend who's moving to another country, and I may never get to see again. Maybe even the last days of college before you graduated and everyone moved in their own direction. I'm trying to enjoy what little time remains. My confession is that I'm not interested in the remaining days of the game. In my defense: imagine that you own a building that's been irreversibly condemned; nothing you do can save it from being torn down. It'd feel pretty futile to work on the building, wouldn't it? Any improvements, additions, etc. would just end up hauled off with the rest of the rubble. That's how I feel about CoH right now. I could work on getting another toon to 50--or closer to it--or try to get a purple-recipe drop to sell, or make a new toon. But, no matter what I do, it all vanishes before dawn of December 1st. Even if I heard that they made all accounts VIP, and made everything in the store available to all for free for the last month, it'd still feel futile. When I tried bringing back Pumpkinette, my usual Halloween-event toon, for this year's event (it's supposed to be Fusionette, who painted herself orange and dyed her hair green to trick-or-treat as a pumpkin), I just got no joy from being in-game. My mind keeps saying, "You know, you have other things to do that won't vaporize in a few weeks." Does anyone else experience this?
-
As someone who enjoyed both soloing and teaming, I preferred more options. The game, for the most part, allowed me to both when I wanted to.
While some preferred to solo, and some preferred to team, more options would have been better for all. Just because you liked to play the game your way, doesn't mean the other perspective was wrong.
More options=better game. -
Quote:You forgot the Apple enthusiast crowd...Emotional attachments? To your pastime? A fictional, virtual pastime of silliness?
What planet are you from?
We here on planet Jyrkth laugh at puny, infantile fools that have emotional attachments to such things.
Business must cater to the most fickle and unattached customers as possible, for that is what our calculations tell us is the most extreme optimal income glory.
Only children with dolls and baseball cards get such feeble attachments!
And sports enthusiasts...
And television watchers...
And movie watchers...
And book readers...
And coin collectors...
And in politics and religions and pie-making contests...
And wickers... don't ever get in the way of someone making a wicker-basket.
Hehe, every cold move such as this negatively affects the market and the potential (and former) customers.
Unfortunately, this is a market that is continually proving that they don't want such customers. They want the crash and burn customers. The locusts... swarm in, destroy and leave. Only... they all think they can somehow stop them from leaving and/or continue to attract a consistent amount of new locusts. None of them have been able to do that so far though... And they all keep scratching their heads as to why they're not more successful.

Quote:It's always possible the $80 million number people have heard is what NcSoft wanted to sell the IP for, not what they were offered. As I mentioned somewhere else, I believe the IP was worth less then 1/3 of that prior to the announcement. I think any group that valued the CoH IP at $80 million (buyer or seller) should have to have their heads examined. Mind you, we've seen Corporations do silly things before.BTW on a side note: People who even think that NCSoft was offered 80 million for CoH are delusional. NO company is going to pay $80 million for CoH. It would take 40 years to even break even at the current profit rate. Heck even if CoH made 5 mill profit a year... that's still 16 years! Come on people....Common sense is your friend

Quote:While revenue certainly seemed to be down over the last 2-3 years, I'm not sure anemic is the correct term. I wouldn't be surprised to find out down the line that the game was making more money then "we" realize. I still believe, rightly or wrongly, that the game was making $5 mil a year in profits, if not more, before the closure announcement. Mind you, this is all based on hearsay and conjecture, from the things I've read and heard. To say that CoH was "healthy" is quite the stretch as it was BARELY maintaining it's revenue the past few years and is anemic in comparison to 2-3 years ago.
Should those turn out to be true, anemic wouldn't be the term I'd use. -
Quote:What I heard was this: The singer Psy (Gungnam Style) had made a Bieber homage toon and was showing it off in Atlas Park when he got generic'd. So he asked one of his biggest fans, Taek Jin Kim, to close down the game in a fit of rage.Really? I heard the opposite -- that Justin Beiber PWNED the NCSoft CEO in PVP on his Stalker, and he just couldn't stand it so he's shutting the game down to get back at Justin.
Behold the power of Gungnam Style. -
While I have no direct knowledge of how profitable/unprofitable City of Heroes was, several individuals who are closer to the devs keep hinting that it was highly profitable. For CoX,what would be considered highly profitable? What if we find out after the game closes that they were making 4 million a year in profits? What if it turned out to be 6-8 million+ a year. What if it was making that on top of the cost of the second project? Where in those set of numbers do we step back dumbfounded as to why the studio was being closed down when it was making "that kind of profit"?
If the rumors are true that several members of Paragon Studios were trying to purchase the game, we can only assume it was making enough money to make it worth while for them to purchase it. Most businesses look for profitability within the first 2-3 years of operation, if not sooner. My "best guess" was that the IP was worth around $24 million before the closure announcement was made, although I could be horribly wrong. (This is based on reading different articles speculating about CoH, and other games that are out there, nothing all that scientific.) If I'm even somewhat close to the mark, the game was probably making $8 million+ a year in profit.
Personally I don't think it had anything to do with what the revenue/profits were. I believe in the end it will turn out to be politics. Maybe one set of management liked the game, one set didn't like it, or didn't like the other "guys". A few shifts in personnel and a minor shift in power balance, and poof, CoH get's shelved. (Maybe Matt Miller forgot to send a birthday present to the right guy in June.) Maybe they could never justify getting rid of CoH, but when they decided to drop the second project they threw the proverbial baby out with the bath water. Mind you this is all pure speculation on my part and we'll probably never know the exact truth.
In the end it's unfortunate that the game, as it stands, is closing down. It will be interesting to see what the future brings. -

I always find discussions using both Deductive and Inductive reasoning rather amusing. Especially when those using Inductive reasoning believe they're using Deductive reasoning, when they're blatantly not.
Carry on. -
But at least I can continue to read the magazine's I own.

Should I go on?I do not think any corporation should be forced to do anything they dont wish to do with something they actually own and or created.
Maybe you'd like to be driving a Pinto...
You know, I had to add this:
While I'm not a fan of most Lawyers, I found this website interesting. It has a very, very long list of what they refer to as "Defective Drugs". AKA, Drugs that Corporations have released to the market that have caused personal injury, if not death, to those taking them.
I'm sure you're "so glad" that the drug companies weren't forced to do anything they didn't wish to do with something they actually own or created.. well, maybe up until it killed or injured someone.... -
