Not a bad idea for a tank combination. The +def in Storm Kick will make it easier to get soft capped. Look at the Stone armor guides for build suggestions. Since stone is fairly reliable in most situation, I'm sure it would do fine in itrials as well.

No idea if it would be good for PvP, that would be better asked in the PvP forums. I suspect that it might be "so-so", but as someone who really doesn't PvP I really couldn't say.

I don't believe anything has been mentioned that we've been made aware of.

    CS issues

Eh hem. It was certainly not my fault, nor a Rangle Plot™ by any means.

Glad you got this issue solved...
  4. Your attacks are probably doing your endurance in.

Beheader isn't bad at 5.2 end per attack and even Chop is ok with 8.53. But Gash uses 10.19 and Swoop is 11.86 end/attack. Without end reduction in them you will suck yourself dry very quickly. Once you get to lvl 22 the SO enhancements will help. I also try and do a round off tip missions right of the bat so that I can get A-merits. 2 of them will net me a Miracle unique asap.

As far as the long haul, I think you'll enjoy the combination. Easy to soft cap, and some nice AoEs and Cones. The earlier levels are always a bit rough on tanks as they do mediocre dmg/end in the early stages. SOs will definitely help.
  5. Go for it. The builds I present are not to be seen as "do it my way", but a picture of what can be done. I also don't think any of my builds are perfect, just good for me. Hopefully people find them a place to start.
  6. A few minor tweaks. Shifted the IO levels down, where appropriate, to cover the possibility of exempting for some TF and teaming. Changed a couple of IOs to suit my preferences better. The Mako's Quad works better in Blinding Feint, and I decided I wanted the Mocking Beratement triple in Taunt. Only doing this because I felt I should have done it in the previous build I posted.

To the OP, this is what you original mentioned:

    Quote:
My Fire/DB Tanker has reached 40-or-so and in the process of getting those last few levels, I've noticed a few things:
    1. She is a bit squishier than I'm happy about.
    2. She sometimes runs out of Endurance much faster than expected, leading to defensive dysfunction and face-planting.
    3. Sometimes, it seems like the Taunts just don't Work! Baddies just head for the hills, usually returning when it's... less convenient.

I believe, right or wrongly, that the build I've posted covers those needs. As before, it really comes down to what you're looking for and willing to play. If it doesn't work for you, don't use it. If it gives you something to build off, great. If it gives you ideas, great. If you find it completely useless, bummer. Ultimately, it is your toon and you need to make it work for you.

    Anyway, here's the tweaked build.

  7. Kinetic Combat sets are known for being low on accuracy and endurance reduction, even though their set bonuses are highly desired. Not only did I add in the CI: Acc/dmg/end to help cover those deficiencies, I also made sure to add in the Kismet Unique to shore things up. I like the Kismet Unique as it gives you nearly the same +to hit as Tactics does, without using endurance. It's about the complete build. (Although there's also a small +acc bonus with the Oblits, it's not a huge impact on things.)

If you feel there isn't enough accuracy in the build for your preferences, I'm fine with that. Use parts of it you like, don't use parts of it you don't like. Throw the whole thing out if you don't like any of it, that's your choice. In the end you've got to be happy with the character. But to say this build is "Dangerously Low on Accuracy" just isn't true.

I approve of your idea for making a SO-build first - I usually do that too. It helps me see what is important and my practical limits.

By my lights, Rangle's build is dangerously low on Accuracy, although the Kismet will help. One could argue that a Tanker's job is not to 'arrest' those +4s, but simply to hold them, so the rest of the team can take them down, but I've always hated that idea.

On the other hand, that build Does have almost 35% Defense from the KCs and other fantastically expensive IOs. Even Consume is slotted to eke out a little more Defense, instead of endurance recovery.

It's all very frustrating. It makes me wonder if the Devs actually play these sets with SOs, or if they have secret boosters that they use to make it 'fun' for them. I don't have a billion influence to sink into this character.

    Be Well!
    Fireheart
While I probably should have gone with my first instinct and left the Crushing Impact Acc/Dmg/End in Blinding Feint I'm really not sure what you consider "Dangerously Low on Accuracy"? I should have put that back into BF. Although not all of your attacks are currently at the 95% chance to hit against +4 mobs, one successful application of Blinding Feint will do that for those that aren't. If you feel the build still isn't adequate, you can always grab the Vigor, or Nerva Alphas.

I didn't feel Consume really needed to be slotted for endurance with the way the rest of the build was crafted. I was more concerned about having the set bonuses, and getting the power up as often a possible so you can leverage it's secondary effect, endurance debuff resistance (should you need it). (The build I posted has an endurance differential of 2.45 end/second recovery. If you include Accolades, this will jump to 2.76 end/second. This doesn't include the two P-shifter procs which are typically expected to give, on average, the equivalent of .2 end/sec each. Which would drive your endurance recovery differential to 3.16. This doesn't include doing anything with the Alpha slot.) So, except for certain mobs, you really shouldn't be needing Consume for endurance recovery all that often.

Hopefully you got some ideas out of the build you liked.

    Ditto.
  10. If you guys want to "co-opt" the idea and make more Numerus, I'd be fine with that. There's only 4, maybe 5 in the SG at the moment. Let me know and I can give more back ground on the SG concept. If not, that's fine too.

Additionally, thanks to everyone who joined in on Sunday night's ship raid. That was a lot of fun. I had a couple of comments on Skype about "how cool it was" to have the Time super teamers on the raid. It is, as always, much appreciated.
  11. Here's close to what I'd craft for a Fire/DB tank. I threw in hasten because I think it helps a get Healing Flames up quicker, which for me is important on a fire tank. I'd boost the levels of the recharge IOs on Hasten and Fiery Embrace, but I left them as lvl 50s.

Anyway, hope you get some ideas you can use from it. It's certainly built using my preferences, but that doesn't mean they're yours.

  12. My. That is one TASTY biscuit.
  13. Rangle M. Down

    PPM procs

Zwillinger could probably send you to the right person.

Additionally; Synapse, for one, seems to be aware of some PPM issues. They're going through some major changes to procs in general in beta right now, which includes a.) making all procs into PPMs, and b.) normalizing SBE procs and "in game" procs. I think they're planning on these changes going live with i24, but that certainly could change.
  14. Nearly forgot. I picked up Number Cruncher about 2-3 months after Exhausted, er I mean Exalted went live.
  15. A few of the names I was surprised to grab here and there. I'll have to see if there's others I can't think of at the moment.

    Interruption, for a Dark/Dark tank.

Poignant, who is an Arch/Dev blaster.

Pejorative, for a Villain Sonic/Time Corruptor.

Almost forgot, Dark Consequences, currently a Dark/Time controller. Originally a Kin/Dark defender.
  16. If you want to make things interesting you could always do something similar to what I've done. The following is an example of what I'm suggesting. Not saying you should use this, but something similar could be fun.

So. I've got a very, very small themed SG called Numerous. Everyone is a Corruptor. Power sets don't matter, as long as you're enjoying playing the sets. Every member of the SG's name starts with Numerus (Roman number higher then 23), for Example, Numerus XXIV, Numerus XXV, Numerus XXX, etc. ("Numerus" = Roman Numerals.) So literally, Number 24, Number 25, Number 30, etc. The first costume uses a black/white Vanguard outfit that can have one or two pieces with a different color, or a different costume piece. I could go into the background, but it's really not necessary.

So you get a team where everyone's AT is the same, has a very similar name, and costume. With powers colored nearly the same. It's a touch confusing to keep track of who's who to begin with, but you get used to it. Imagine taking a team like that to an iTrial, or a Ship raid.

Maybe you could do something along those lines.
  17. Thank you for the time you've spent leading the raids. They've always been a lot of fun.

There was a KJ? I thought someone had wandered in off the stre.... er nvm..
  19. While I do admit to liking wine, it was mere coincidence.

However; the two of us visiting Napa Valley, while we were in the Bay Area for the summit, was all Impish Cat's idea.

Mag 4 does cover most of the game. You'll definitely see higher mag kb in the itrials, against nemesis, and in the hamidon raids. (If you plan on being a taunt tank on hami's you'll need mag 10+ protection.) Those aren't the only places, just the ones I can recall off hand. While I generally build with 10+ mag in mind, it's not "required". I certainly like to have it on my builds though.

Counter-example: If that same character has Unyielding, but also has Hand Clap, I'll let them play their character unless it starts to become detrimental to the team.

I tend to take a slightly different tact. I usually ask them, out of curiosity, if there was a particular reason they hadn't taken Unyielding, or a similar power. Once I get their answer, it makes it easier for me to explain why it's not a bad idea to have that power as it makes their life easier.

  23. eh hem...

There are no such thing's as "Rangle Plots™ ".
  24. One thing I don't recall anyone mentioning this (and I apologize if I missed it in another post), Grab the 4 accolades that give you permanent bonuses to your endurance and hit points. It ends up being 10 more endurance points, which will improve your recovery to 3.43 without the Alpha slot, and over 200 hit points to your build.

Red Side they are: Born in Battle, Marshal, High Pain Threshold, and Invader.

Blue side they are: Received the Atlas Medallion, Task Force Commander, Freedom Phalanx, and Portal Jockey.
  25. Not a fan of Cloak of Fear, mainly because it's such an end hog, that also needs lots of accuracy. I'm not willing to devote slots to it to make it work.

Anyway, here's two Dark/Dark builds I have. The first is what the tank was originally going to be slotted. The second build is what I'm currently planning on switching to, now that the Glad Armor +3 defense has dropped dramatically in price. There are things I've done differently then you have, and might give you some ideas for change.

Build 1. Softcapped s/l, e/n within one small purple from softcap.
