  1. As has been mentioned, Carnies can be problematic.

Depending on the mission settings, you could have been -5 levels to them. (Which would indeed be rough on most, if not all tanks.) On a level 50 team you'd be SSK'd to level 49 on both of the tanks you mentioned. If the mission was set to +4/8 that would have made the Carnies lvl 54s. Without a ton of outside buffs I can see you having issues surviving, even with fairly well put together builds.
  2. Even if you drop your Aegis to level 40s, your not going to see much of a drop off on your resistances. Dropping to level 35s would show some. Quite a few folks craft their sets at level 35 for exempting.

I generally don't stress too much about F/C defenses as I'm leveling up. On the occasion where things "might" get hairy, you can always pop a purple. Using Dull Pain when needed can also alleviate problems. I also have a couple of Invulnerable builds that didn't incorporate Resist Elements as I wanted other powers more then I wanted to include it.

    As always, YMMV.
  3. Pretty much everything Chad mentioned. While at the Plummit (Player Summit), Synapse did say that he "might" try and get Radiation Melee put together as well since there was a thematic synergy between the two. From what was said, Rad Melee has also been a very highly requested set as well. That's the only reference that I've heard from the Plummit on.
  4. My mistake on the Torrent then. I'm always knocking back enemies with most of the ones I've used, so I'm expecting to see kb, not kd on them.

As for the +9% accuracy, take a look at your attacks and see what the final percentages are. In the build I presented; the lowest accuracy attack, with one in range of Invincibility, has ~167% accuracy to even con. It will be higher with more mobs in range. That being said, you're final chance to hit can never get better then 95% so you've got some fudge room.

    Diamagnetic can be resisted.
  5. I'd do some minor tweaks to your latest. I'd make all your Generic IOs lvl 50. Keeping them at lvl 35 or 40 wouldn't matter for set bonuses, and you'll get a little more out of them at lvl 50 even with some ED kicking in.

I don't think you're gaining a whole lot 4 slotting Combat Jumping, much less 3 slotting it the way you have. You're not gaining much with that 4th slot. I would take at least one slot from CJ and move it over to Dull Pain. I'd then 5 slot Dull Pain with Doctored Wounds. Better recharge, better healing.

Since the defenses scale with critters around an Invulnerable tank, I think KB powers are a bit self defeating. I'd replace the Endurance/Recharge in Energy Torrent with the kb>kd converter. You'd still get the kd, but they'd still be in range of Invincibility. Win-win in my mind.

With those changes in mind, here's what it would look like.

  6. No problem. Honestly with an Elec/Nrg I'd be hoping the minions stayed alive long enough to keep fueling Power Sink till the bosses be dead.
  7. I grabbed an Inv/EM build Hyperstrike posted in another thread here and reworked it for Inv/SS.

It's soft capped to S/L/E/N/F/C without using Maneuvers. Dull Pain is perma. I left Maneuvers as your level 50 power so that, when needed, you could use it for incarnate level situations.

Anywhosit, most of the heavy lifting was done by Hyper so I can't take most of the credit for this.

Electric Armor has some very good resistances in it and works fine on SOs.

Energy Melee is very Single Target oriented, with the exception of Whirling Hands. So large mobs of minions may take a bit to whittle down, although the damage aura will help with this a touch. Because of the lack of AoE you might end up feeling like it takes "forever" to get through missions. On the converse side, you'll do well enough against bosses and EBs. You could always shore up your AoE damage via Epic pools.

I have an Inv/EM toon that I like and it doesn't bother me that it's fairly ST oriented. I do occasionally wish I had a Damage Aura on him. YMMV
  9. Even without seeing the changes to the fighting pool in beta, my initial response would be "doubtful" that I would ever take all 5 powers from the fighting pool.

If this was my toon, I'd probably drop touch of fear and replace Energy Mastery with a different epic pool. You can build in enough endurance recovery without needing Conserve Power and Physical Perfection.

If I wanted more direct attacks, I'd probably continue with the theme of dark and grab attacks from Soul Mastery. I think Gloom is considered one of the higher DPA attacks and would probably be better then either Kick or Boxing. (if switching redside doesn't work for you, this wouldn't be a good choice)

If I wanted more AoE damage, I'd go Pyre Mastery. Picking up Char, Fire Blast and Fireball.
  10. Keep it exclusive for a while, then put stuff on the market. Maybe a year +?

Puts more funds into Paragons pockets, which in turn allows them to make more stuff.

What's wrong with that? Sounds like a win-win proposition.
  11. Dark Armor's "endurance issues" can be worked around with proper slotting, and/or IOing.

Stone Armor: you can create a build that lives outside of Granite for the most part. Focus on +runspeed, +recharge, soft capping S/L/E/N and Psi. Plus lots of endurance management of course.
  12. This is what I'm probably going to change my current Dark Tank build into. Soft capped S/L/E/N. A touch less endurance recovery then her current build, but not so much that it should hinder this version at all.

Anyway, take a look and see if you find anything in there that you like, or could use.

Having a fourth one isn't recommended as you're not getting a huge amount of "bang" for your buck because of ED's diminishing returns. IMHO, the slots would be better used elsewhere.

Once you get to level 50 you can still slot up to lvl 53 SOs, so the +3 you're seeing is the equivalent of lvl 53 SOs.

I hadn't seen that you were looking for brute/scrapper until after I posted it, so sorry about that. Maybe someone else will find it useful.

I wouldn't have suggested the accolades if you couldn't get them as a free player. That wouldn't have been nice on my part if you couldn't get them.

As for information on how to get those accolades, the Paragonwiki site has all that and more.

I was thinking about Bruising as a concept, and perhaps it's just not developed enough yet to have the effect they were hoping.

There are a ton of sets out there that have -Defense, but not a whole lot with serious -Resistance (outside of sonic and some debuff sets).

If Brutes get stackable Fury to help them generate damage, why not give Tanks a stackable 5 to 10% -Resistance on their attacks to compensate? Throw each on a 10 or 15 second timer, and you could maybe stack up to -50% resistance on a single target, or -20% to -30% on average with AoE damage.

Thematically this makes sense, as Tanks are the "big guys who hit really hard yet slowly". It would make sense that they could beat the crap out of a robot and eventually rip their way through it by simple sheer force.

Also, this would make them suddenly VERY desirable on teams, as not only can they tank like a Brute or some Scrappers, but a single Tanker will be adding serious -Resistance debuffs to the team's capabilities. A single Tanker to soften up some +4s would let the Blasters, Scrappers, et cetera with him wreak havoc.

I honestly think a stackable SOMETHING along these lines could work. It works so well for Brutes, why not extrapolate a different flavor of that concept for Tankers?
No disagreement from me on the basic concept. I've already made similar suggestions here and here in this thread already. I've also suggested it in the Consolidated Tanker Improvement thread. I think that being able to stack it up to -50% resistance would probably be leveraging it a bit too far. I've suggested that it should be capped somewhere between 30-40% so that it doesn't step on true de-buffer's toes
  17. This would be a first blush look at an SO only SR/Staff tank. It's been a while since I've created an SO only build so it's certainly far from perfect. I would probably approach it slightly differently for myself in the earlier levels, as I've got plenty of Vet attacks to cover taking the staff attacks later in the build, but I didn't want to skimp your earlier attacks.

I also recommend getting the four accolades I toggled on: Received the Atlas Medallion, Freedom Phalanx, Task Force Commander, and Portal Jockey. Combined they give you an extra 20% hit points, and 10% extra endurance. Both of which will improve your regeneration and endurance recovery nicely.

Anyway, take a look at this and see what you think. I'm sure others will have different, if not better input. Hopefully you'll find something to work with.

Please, if you're going to get hung up somewhere, make it the costume, not the powers. Think Batman, not the Atom). And, oh yeah, the price I'll pay to name his guy has officially doubled to half a billion inf thanks to a couple of fortuitous recipe drops and a very generous costume contest I won under Atlas the other day.

That's a five followed by eight zeros, kids.

Anyway, to respond to a couple of more recent posts:

"Aces and Eights" is taken (as is "Dead Man's Hand," another one I check often just in case). I could use the number 8 (it's available), but that's... awkward-looking to me. Maybe it's something I could get past, though. I'm thinking about it. I haven't ruled it out.

"Gamechanger" is taken as well, which is too bad -- I immediately had visions of a Kinetics defender/corruptor with Fulcrum Shift and was ready to declare a winner. I also checked "Game-Changer," and, well... also taken. Surprise surprise.

I won't be apologizing for having high standards. I know they're high. That's why I've sat on this for five years, and why I'm offering an ever-increasing payment for something that meets those standards. The vast majority of names I've seen suggested here have fallen into one of two categories for me: either they're very good, but not perfect, or they're near-perfect, but already taken. I'm looking for near-perfect but not already taken, and I'm willing to be patient. If I were in a rush, I would have already snapped up something decent-but-not-great for him years ago.

Anyone holding onto a name and waiting for a response: Thank you. And I apologize for taking so long to get back to you. But if you haven't heard from me on the subject by now, it's probably safe to assume it's not what I'm looking for. Feel free to hang onto it yourself, or set it free. I appreciate the effort, I really do.

Thanks for the enthusiasm and (mostly) positive response, everyone! Keep it up and somebody will take home the money!

Psstt.. What were the winning names that went with what pictures?

Do people use Oro for their content or still do it the old fashioned way?

    Because.

I don't think the Dev's outright lie, but like any good politician or advertising agency, they don't necessarily give you the whole truth. Partial, or even non committal information, can still be true "at that moment" even if it doesn't give you the whole picture. (Yes: they were working on crash-less nukes, but at that time: no, they weren't planning on them for i24. No lie, but partial information.)

That partial information can also send you off on the wrong path, whether intentional or not, and they aren't required to correct "you" when it does. Obfuscation works in many, many ways.
  21. Nice Start so far. I like that you're approaching it as a number of pieces, instead of a unified costume. Looking forward to seeing more.

  23. The answer is no. If you were inside the Dome and summoned, yes. Summoning Freezing Rain, then Dimensional shift on top of it, doesn't put the Rain inside the dome either.

Been there, tried that on beta. It's working as intended. Sorry.

A response from Arbiter Hawk when I had initially asked about this when the new DS was in beta:

However, the case you describe above of a pseudo-pet being cast from outside the bubble into the bubble and having no effect is working as intended.
