I'd be fine if it was gone at level 10 like originally designed. Someone probably cried about losing the ranged brawl damage, so now it's permanent.
[/ QUOTE ]
It was more like (and fairly quiet, too, don't recall much heat about it) "Why does my character forget how to throw knives/use a taser that looks like a civilian model/etc. at level 10?".
And yeah, the melee's like it to kill that one runner with 5 hp. -

I think temp powers should be temporary. This pack is a nice gift for a new player just starting out that paid double what they could have got from a bargain bin. Then it's gone like their money, but hopefully the player will stay and use a real travel power.
No permanent temp powers!!! It's oxymoronic!
Jer
[/ QUOTE ]
technically, doesn't our permanent unslottable "origin" power appear as a temp?
Of course, I agree with you, but just sayin
[/ QUOTE ]
Probably it was the easiest (& quickest!!) way to make sure they didn't mess anything up -it was just removing the line "expires on : level 10" from the powers.
-
[ QUOTE ]
Why do you think It is linked to some type of entitlement. We as a community have been wanting a jetpack for our hero concepts weather with a temp fly power attached or a receipt like rocket boots for sometime.
[/ QUOTE ]
if it was a permanent thing & you couldn't upgrade an existing account with it, I could understand it.
But if you want it, you can buy it, and it is NOT permanent. Hate to see how people here would react to everquest's model of a new toy with every expansion (which was full box price!).
I just don't get the hate over this.
And yes, I DO want a jet pack costume piece. Sexy Jay, get on it! Or lose the sexy. -

Here is the thing, Johnny there calls it "a new time card campaign". It's not, it's a game card. They are not trying to sell vets these cards, but NEW players.
Would there be this much upset if it was a box with the same stuff? I doubt it.
[/ QUOTE ]
I just wanted to chime in and reiterate this point. These point of sale cards are intended for new players and to acquire new customers. We understand the interest in the jet pack and/or additional ways to pay for existing customers, but that aside, please keep in mind the intent with these new cards.
[/ QUOTE ]
We understand the intent. But as for the mechanism...can we keep applying the game cards (at a $5 premium over regular subscriptions) to have them?
[/ QUOTE ]
According to what I have read, yes, but you will want to wait until your account expires ( the jet pack script is run when the code is applied, so if you apply 2 in one day, you will only have the pack for 30 days from that point, not 60, although the game time will properly stack). -
[ QUOTE ]
I want jet packs as a costume option, giving out a new shiney jetpack to new customers and not allowing people pkayign the game access to it is very annoying, I dont care how ya do it, make it like the wedding pack I'll gladly pay 10 bucks for access to a few jet pack costume options, some old and some new, preferably able to customize the colors, you guys are missing a cash boat here I have no idea what the hold up is.
UNLEASH JETPACKS NOW!
[/ QUOTE ]
But it's not a costume option, it's a temp power.
Just bug Sexy Jay again for backpacks/jetpacks. -
[ QUOTE ]
I was posting on Massively.com in an attempt to win the freakshow costume. I am one of the "lost players" that live on the "forgotten" East Coast, USA.
I found this very interesting post there...

This and other customer relations-oriented idiocy on NCSoft's part was the catalyst for me quitting the game last month after being on since the start.
Let me get this straight - a permanent goody is given in limited numbers to existing customers only who, with only a few exceptions, necessarily needed to already have plans to go to the convention. Net advantage: zero new customers, few, if any, new con attendees, a few hundred happy people. Net disadvantage: several thousand angry customers.
Meanwhile, in an effort to promote a new time card campaign, a 30-day real time temporary power is attached to time cards going on sale at retailers like Target, readily located just about everywhere in the U.S. Rather than make the power a permanent one, thereby assuring themselves of some nice early sales to veteran players and thereby impressing said retailers, the power is made a temp one with a real time expiration, virtually assuring little veteran player participation.
If COH still has more than 100,000 subscribers when Champions Online and DCU Online hit, I'll be shocked. It's a good game with a great community, but they continue to alienate people* like we are completely disposable - which is exactly how they will then be treated when the competition hits.
* the term "people" does not include forum lackeys "

All NC cards work on all NC products, that's the point of having removed the specific games to them. They're one product. If you apply them to any of the given games, the effects will differ based on what each game needs. (So we get the jet, the other one gets coin, etc.)
[/ QUOTE ]
Not true, Zekiran. These are game cards - the code given is like the GvE code, etc.
For plain time, you still want the simple "PlayNC" branded cards. -
[ QUOTE ]
Cool and all, but LH, is there a plan to sell CoX cards for just 15.00 a month? Will the Tabula Cards work on a CoH account too?
Some people (like me) would prefer to pay with game cards, but the extra 5.00 a month for the jet doesn't justify the expense to me.
Especially on the Villain side, as there are repeatable missions to get a Temp flight pack in game already.
[/ QUOTE ]
You want the regular time cards.
THESE ARE NOT TIME CARDS.
They give a full copy of the game, plus a 30day realtime temp power to the account using a rocket pack that was in the korean version of the game. -
Jazman :
Everquest was the first MMO I had heard of.
Every so often (something like every 9 months or so, I think) they released new content in a pay-to-get expansion. This cost as much as the basic game, usually, for the first several months it was out.
While, from my understanding, World of Warcraft releases content every so often as a normal game update, their big stuff (new classes/races/skills) are in paid-box expansions. Without paying for them, you can't get into things like the new zones, etc. that WoW releases.
Other than City of Villains (the "stand-alone expansion") the City of Franchise has never had a boxed expansion.
So when they say "free updates" they mean "at no additional cost beyond the monthly fees." -

boo... buddy of mine that is there went to get me a Pocket D pass with the item, but they wouldn't give it too him because he doesn't play... lame.
[/ QUOTE ]
*rolleyes*
Not really, it's item is for people who are at the con and play the game. It also ties into an event for Saturday, IIRC.
If your friend is their Sunday, have him try then, but don't get upset because they are giving out with the intent that con-going Co* players be the receivers. -

Anyone that goes to preview tonight, or if LH can chime in and let me know what the Booth number is this year?
Would appreciate it.
Thanks!
[/ QUOTE ]
Hey man, according to the official site of SDCC, NCSoft is at booth #5209.
That's the first place Im going so I can get a pass to the party on Saturday. I dont even really care about the ingame stuff, I just want to drink and party with people I dont know. Woo Hoo!
[/ QUOTE ]
Can I have your (ingame) stuff then? -
[ QUOTE ]
Specifically in that Lighthouse is saying that whether or not a post will be banned or deleted is going to be completely at the whim of the moderation staff
[/ QUOTE ]
Not really.
The rules boil down to this : Be Clean, Be Courteous.
They rest of the rules are basically calling out examples, and some things not readily apparent. Don't think that if the moderation staff starts taking action against anyone who annoys them little bit that THEY won't have to face actions, as we can always appeal to someone above them (support tickets, or one of the favorites for making sure it gets to where you want it, "Signature of addressee required" letters, although those actually cost money.
Rules for social interaction are mostly guidelines wherever you go, Peregrine, with a few hard & fast points (never threaten someone's jewels near a microphone on TV, you never know if it's on, etc) -
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
I agree with Flea. I do think that the community should know why locks/bans/suspensions happened.
NcSoft doesn't need to tell us WHO they banned because that would have some legal issues. But if the community got, for example, a monthly newsletter that stated the number of bans and reasons why.
It would tell the community what is and what is not tolerated while keeping personal information confidential.
[/ QUOTE ]
Ummm, the rules themselves tell exactly what is and what is not tolerated. What it sounds like you're looking for is a public whipping square to satisfy a morbid desire for "revenge" or "closure". NCSoft is playing the bigger person by enforcing the rules but not publicly ridiculing the offenders like many individuals hunger for wrongly.
[/ QUOTE ]
They are basically asking for a report kinda like this on a regular schedule :
Four people temp banned for X, one permanent.
Six banned permanently for cyberstalking.
One banned for TPing people into those towers in the PvP zones so people couldn't play.
Etc.
Which, as you say, is unneeded. If something becomes a huge issue, they usually post a "Hey, this is wrong, you can be banned for it" message. Like with the PvP watch towers and teleporting people into them. -
[ QUOTE ]
It should be "are not tolerated."
[/ QUOTE ]
If the word "behavior" was plural, yes. But it is not. -
[ QUOTE ]
It'd be nice if the long long long ago concent of CoH being free style when choosing powers etc was to be implemented (ie Archetypes becoming only an inherent power set up and nothing more) but I don't think they're gonna go this route.
[/ QUOTE ]
There is an MMO that did something on the same scale as this.
Google (or Wiki) "Star Wars Galaxies" and "NGE".
The fallout wasn't pretty.
It would have to be something for CoX2. -

[ QUOTE ]
CoH - Retail x2
CoH - Collectors x2
CoV x2
Pocket D TP/Jump Jet Pack x2
Wedding Pack x2
I don't feel I wasted my money and have no animosity at all about expanding the full game to everyone.
[/ QUOTE ]
I paid for the same (CoV Collectors Edition as well) and was curious.
Will those of us who purchased City of Villains and the additional content actually receive some sort of "game" compensation for what have essentially become redundant purchases?
[/ QUOTE ]
You have already received the compensation - you already have access to it, and have for some time.
And why would you get compensation for addition content bought? They are not giving access to that away for free. -
[ QUOTE ]
Just to nitpick but houses in general appreciate in value over time...
[/ QUOTE ]
Not recently, if you live in the USA :/ -
[ QUOTE ]
(Wasn't this hinted at or mentioned before, around I8 or maybe even right before I6? - when they announced there would only be one Sub Fee for both Games??)
[/ QUOTE ]
A box set was talked about, but it got turned into the past three issues, IIRC. -
[ QUOTE ]
Just FYI that this isn't very likely. NCsoft Europe is a separate entity from NCsoft North America and the business dividing lines don't lend themselves to such a merge.
[/ QUOTE ]
As I recall - since you have to be subscribed to the game, either the US or Euro version, and NC Europe and NC USA are separate companies, it becomes an issue of privacy laws. -
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
Be sure to log in on the blue side and save your password on that side. They are basically 2 separate forums and not just skin changes. It's something we want to improve in the future, but you should be able to work around it.
[/ QUOTE ]
Huh. I did not know that. I always thought it was just a skin. What a nuisance that must be for you.
[/ QUOTE ]
Basically, IIRC, the two "colors" are mirrors of each other (one at cityofheroes.com, and one at cityofvillains.com) so the cookies only work for one of them. -
[ QUOTE ]
I don't remember now where I found the feed thingy from, it's been awhile. Just kinda confused me that it was being announced now. Y'know, like... uhm, what? So, yeah. As long as it's not just me and it's not just some weird time loop, mental breakdown, Stargate thingy, plot device then I'm good.
[/ QUOTE ]
Nope, it's a warp core/broken physics plot device. With Q on top...
This feed is the stuff off the front page, not the Dev/Community Digests. -
[ QUOTE ]
Having extra powers in the low levels will be nice but overall I am kind of disappointed, but whatever, would rather have them use the resources to make the game better than worry about these Vet Rewards..
Iggy
[/ QUOTE ]
Thing is, neither of these rewards really took many resources. All already in game, just had to put in a database entry or two. -
[ QUOTE ]
well this suck i bought the LE game for nothing,i was waiting for something new o well ><
[/ QUOTE ]
The helmets were not the from the limited edition version of the game. They were from the Pre-Order. Different things (You could get the LE and the Preorder). -
[ QUOTE ]
Well this is a nice plus for all those that didn't pre-order either CoH or CoV however I will now think twice about any pre-ordering incentives given in the future. I mean what is the point of ordering early just to have your bonus taken away at a future date?
[/ QUOTE ]
They said right from the get go that the helms would eventually be made available in some manner to all others (originally, it was expected to be pay-for). Pre-Orders still got the head start, and unless you got ripped off, it didn't cost you any extra.
[ QUOTE ]
Oh I wouldn't get to cozy with those nice Vet powers either as it seems they are Temporary Powers anyway. I imagine they will go sometime in the future as most TEMPS do.
[/ QUOTE ]
How long have you been playing that you can complain about the helmets yet don't know that the Veteran Reward powers, while based on temporary powers, are permanent? -

My office building is next door to the Convention Center where PAX is held. A list of establishments that are within walking distance of the Con :
Cheesecake Factory
Rock Bottom Brewery
Six Arms Brew Pub
Gameworks
Gordon Biersch
Pike Place Brewery
This covers some of the more mainstream places within 6 blocks of the Convention Center. I left off Elephant and Castle as that was where the M&G was last year.
[/ QUOTE ]
You might wish to note which establishments are 21+ (and what times, if they allow minors some of the day).
