  3. This is a bit of an old thread but...yeah...gotta comment.

I've got an Earth/Earth dom somewhere around lvl 45...and he rapidly turned into my second favorite dominator, with the #1 slot going to my Plant/Thorn dom.

Yes...as previously stated...Earth Control has a near metric crap-ton of control options. One of the key powers for me is Stalamites...AoE stunnage. Stomp down this and follow up with Stone Cages...and go to town on hapless victims. Combined with /Earth Assault's Powerboost...oh yeah...they're in trouble. Double up with Powerboost AND Domination...that's pretty much game over.

Then there's the "i'm gonna getcha from around the corner" controls of Quicksand, Earthquake, and Volcanic Gases. You don't even have to poke your head out to land these beauties of controlling goodness. Just stay outta line of site, and go to work. When you've got things setup...run in and wail away. QS even recharges fast enough to perma out the gate without recharge slotting. A slow or 2 and your golden...unless you're working a set for bonuses...and it def debuffs.

Right now i'm working on an Elec/Earth dom. Tried an El/El...but he's not really floating my boat very well...not sure if it's cuz he's only lvl 21 or what. May give him a little more time and effort to get to at least SO's before making a final judgement call on him. But my El/EA so far is turning out to be just plain fun. Maybe it's because of the SMASHy feel of earth assault and it's own built-in soft control of tending to knock things on their butts.

Hmm...did not know that. Duly noted.

I alternate opening vs spawns with seeds and creepers.

By teh way, you need generic accuracy in creepers, not just recharge and not set-based accuracy. The creepers have multiple powers. If you slot ranged, then the slow and cones don't benefit, if you slot AoE, the the ranged don't benefit. I have Nucleus HOs in mine. The difference is pretty amazing.
Unless i'm missing something...there is no tag-specific ACC in the game. I.E. no +accuracy for just AOE, ranged, melee...it's just plain accuracy. Slow is a totally different animal with different slot needs, and all the accuracy in the world won't buff that.

In all of the rants about build elitist in the game, I have yet to see one comment about a defender's secondary. People vastly only care if you are Rad, or not. Rad/dp and Rad/psy is the same to them. In 5+ years of playing on Freedom, I have yet to be kicked from a team due to my powersets. I have yet to see somebody openly kicked due to their powersets. I guess how I play the game leads me to avoiding those kinds of people. If somebody is specifically looking for something in broadcast, you likely might want to avoid them.
Lucky you...i've been kicked because of powersets. Particularly when i was running my TA/Archery defender. There were a few times i'd get a team invite and would see "Yay...we have a healer now!"

    "Uh...no...sorry. I'm TA/Archery."

    "...oh" <kick>

Yup...ran into a few of those situations that just cuz someone saw that little blue shield of mine they thought "HEALOR!" and found themselves disappointed.

Flipside of that, though, is i got invited to a few teams that found out i wasn't a healer but didn't kick me off the team, though a comment or 2 about how TA sucks flashed across the screen. At least until the found themselves steamrolling over mobs cuz they were debuffed to high Hades. One team in particular didn't even realize what was happening at first, and this was a "TA Sucks" team. The started putting mobs down alot faster and actually asked me "these things are dying ALOT faster...is that cuz of you?"

    "Yyyyup"

    "TA ROCKS!"

    made my effin day
  7. GD isn't the greatest thing...but for me it's had it's uses. I've only ever had one /dev blaster and that was an elec/dev, so droney was paired up with Volty. They were a pretty handy combo when i nuked a spawn and end crashed...they just kept right on dealing a bit of damage for me till i could start shooting again myself.

How about Brawl Melee power set. All powers are Brawl.
All attacks have the same animation; Brawl.

    Description:

You are a pure Brawler. You are so effective with the basics of street-fighting that you don't need to learn fancy kicks, flashy movements, or netherworld powered attacks. All you need is your fist and something to hit. Anything...it doesn't matter...just as long as you can connect it to your knuckles.

As simple and unrefined as it appears, your Brawling is so powerful that you can bring down even the greatest of foes with astounding ease and often with a single blow. However, there is a price for possessing such great strength and power. People, both friend and foe, flee at the mere sight of you. You clear out entire city blocks by just being present in the general vicinity of anyone that could potentially incur your wrath. Everywhere you go, you're always alone.

    on a serious note....oh yeah....me likey KM

If you're talking To-Hit enhancements via slotting...then no. CC and FT take accuracy...not tohit buff.

And if you're talking via IOs/Set bonuses... then again no. Buffs you get thru IO's affect you directly, not your pets, and CC counts as a pseudo-pet of sorts.

Bit of a nitpick but...a scrapper's crit chance is 5% for minions and underlings and 10% for anything above minion class (LT, Boss, EB, etc.)

Certain powers, usually a tier 9, have a slightly higher chance to crit or give a bonus to crit chance for a short time.
  11. I've got a E/E Dom At around lvl 42 and he's a MONSTER! I went with the /Fire APP for some added AoE carnage. For single target...he hits like a 5-ton truck and can nearly one shot minions with pretty much just SO's in his build. One of these days i'll sit down and work out an IO build for him to see how much i can boost him up...maybe reach for permadom status. But even if i don't...he's still one of my favorite doms to play.

  13. For the patrons...you'd have to go full villain, as contacts won't give you missions as a vigilante.
  14. Found a bug in the Buck Salinger mission Seek clues from Red Caps mission that you have to rescue Walter Daschle (think i'm spelling the name right) who summons some Fir Bolg after you defeat the Caps around him. But...instead of the Pumpkins spawning friendly, they spawn as enemies that immediately attack you.
  15. My Earth/Stone and Plant/Thorn doms are a blast to play, tho in different ways. My P/T just causes absolute havoc with all the stuff he tosses out. SoC...Creepers...Water Spout...and lots of pointy stuff flyin just...EVERYWHERE! To this day is STILL giggle like a schoolgirl watchin him work.

My Earth/Stone dommy Rocky Martin is just....wow. Even with just reagular SOs in his build...he STILL hits like a 5 ton truck! It's just plain sick how as a dommy...i can damn near one-shot minions into pulpy oblivion. I've got a Stone/WP Brute...and i SWEAR he don't put out nearly the same amount of damage! Its INSANE! Toss in his controls...and stuff is just plain destroyed. Stalagmites is just TOO good of a power once you get it good and slotted. Follow up with Stone Cages...and you've got ghetto hold. QS and EQ from around a corner...stop, drop, and flop mobs..then proceed to POUND.

Still tryin to get into the Elec control vibe but so far...it's just not clicking with me.

Yes I read can't afford part before the highlighted part. The title reads good builds.. If it read Fantasy Builds it would fit more what your trying to point and defend him against..

Look if we are just going to post whatever we want anywhere then no need to have different forums for each arch type.. Might as well mix PvP talk in with Development. The search for the forums / Site is already limited. I use Google to search this site to get better results. Why we trying to complicate it by posting all different builds in all different forums ? Are you going go to the blaster forum and post a Mastermind build next ? Of course not.. Or hope not..

    OP had good intentions..
I agree every AT forum should have a thread that players can look at good Vetted builds for reference
    .

As some mentioned his build is lacking in some areas.. BUT the simple review quickly showed he failed the rule of 5. Beyond other errors or inefficiencies.
    Stealth...mule for LotG: +7.5% recharge.

But you saying some didn't get what he is saying when we did or maybe he fell off the track when trying to post and we need to figure out what the OP really meant is just getting him beat up a bit more for no reason..

IF the OP was really concerned he should come back and fixed or reposted the build.. But I think he understands his intentions were good but just in the wrong place.. I would check the appropriate forum for his thread as he might have moved it there hopefully as its a good idea..

Nonetheless you should follow the OP and post in the correct forums so everyone looking for a Dom build can enjoy what you posted.. Further stealth does not work the way you might be expecting ( I' m now extrapolating what your thinking ) so your defenses are not going to be that high even though your resistances are decent you might be falling a bit short defense wise. Focus Accuracy ? Many will tell you not worth the end cost.

But again wrong place to discuss this build.. Again its not a slight its just pointing out you put a drinking cup where the dinner dishes belong..

My build wasn't going for top end, soft capped defenses, tho i was going for a decent amount to compliment the resistance. This build puts him at around 28.5% S/L defense, 18.8% F/C, and 20.3% E/NE, with a smidge of psi tossed in. Not SUPER high numbers, true...but some added mitigation to stack with my resistance..most of which are in the 41-49% range. 83% global recharge, +105% damage, and a few other tidbits here and there. My goal was more of a mixture of bonuses. Could others do it better...of that i have no doubt.

and FA...pretty much a set mule...and i really didn't need to pick up Conserve Power, which was my only other choice for first power in the pool.

Stealth is also a mule for a second LotG: +7.5% rech

    Good Builds

Just to clarify the intent of the OP (as some seem to have missed it), he wasn't posting a build for critiquing as much as "hey...why don't we start a thread that showcases builds we'd like to have, even if it's something outlandish or mostly out of our reach", and he started it with a Dommie Build.

Which...I think i'll will add one of mine.

He's definitely gonna be a tough toon to work towards completeing as i've got him planned. Some fairly decent S/L defense (wasn't going for softcap), 90%-ish global recharge, and a few other perks. Certainly not top-end...but looks workable on paper.

Edit: Shows as a 48 scrapper cuz my silly butt forgot to add the very last slot.
  18. I picked SM on an elec/elec stalker and i love it. Kick in SM, run into the middle of the spawn...hit BU, AS the boss...then LR the rest of the mob....GLORIOUS!
  19. You can have my pistols when you pry them from my cold, dead fingers with the jaws of life.

Yeah...I like Dual Pistols with it's over-exaggerated gun-fu moves and everything. I may not be the beast that is Fire/...but i still had an absolute blast playing my DP/Elec blaster to 50...and is the first (And thus far ONLY) toon to have unlocked Alpha Slot.

Assuming Recharge/Heal alpha uncommon. It would use the cremate - incin - GFS chain against AVs and tough targets (throw in a Fire Blast during the few seconds while Hasten is down). 20% def to everything allows it to softcap as needed with 2 purple insps. This build skips Burn and takes RoTP, that's right ; don't care much for Burn's activation time and radius, and I hate going to hosp/loading times (and this is why "perfect" is always subjective ).
    <knocks on Nil's head> psst...he doesn't have and can't use Mids cuz he's on a mac.

    LOL
  21. One of my toons uses ninja run + sprint for travel (well...actually most of them do after the MA pack was released), and what i ended up doing was tacking in an extra slot into sprint and slammed a celerity +stealth enhancement into it. Worked better when the procs in toggles worked for 120 seconds after you disengaged them than after the fix on those...but still works pretty well.
  22. My /electric armor brute laughed at sappers...and pretty sure my /elec stalker did too. They would shoot me with their "i'm gonna drain your end" blasty thingy and...my blue bar twitched....MAYBE! I was laughing till i ran up to give him a taste of his own medicine by hitting him with Power Sink and...

NOTHING!! He couldn't drain me...and i couldn't drain him. I felt so robbed of my POETIC JUSTICE! CURSE YOU MALTAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!

I've seen an ice/ice tanker avoid the Carnie Death Drain by hopping up and down in place as they died...usually through the combined actions of an AR blaster and TA/Archery defender. We nicknamed him Hopping Ivan. Plus it was funny as hell to watch.
  23. <throws flak at Signal>

    That's Green Arrow's/Speedy's schtick!

<throws more flak> ...oh wait...that's flan! nom nom nom...

Edit: Can you believe that the forum censored Signal's name when i used initials??? wow.
  24. I have a Plant/Thorns Dom that is sitting at 46 and can be an absolute beast. Plant is a good control set and Thorns isn't too bad either. Pretty good damage...maybe a little light on the AoE with just Fling Thorns and Thorn Burst. I suppose you could TECHNICALLY count Thorntrops (basically caltrops)...but i skipped that power.

You get one of your major, key powers at lvl 8...Seeds of Confusion. This is practically a bread-and-butter power for planters and worth every slot you dedicate to it. Fairly quick recharge, for an AoE confuse, with a large cone so it's not too difficult to line it up and smack almost everything in the spawn, if not everything. If there's a downside, it's that unlike other confuse powers, mobs WILL notice it and aggro to you.

I went Plant/Thorn/Levi mastery so i could add in Water Spout. I still laugh my head off with the amount of havoc he creates. SoC > Roots> Carrion Creepers > Water Spout...then commence to shredding. Absolutely no end of fun.
  25. One point of correction, Leo...the Burst power (the pbaoe) power DOES work with Power Siphon. It does apply a -dmg debuff and applies a damage buff to you. Hopped in game and checked it. The only power that PS doesn't work with is Repulsing Torrent. All other KM attacks apply the buff/debuff.
