Quote:Short answer: no...As a primarily solo player, after 51 months, I am finally getting to the point where I am fed up with having powers that I cannot use on myself.
Speed Boost, Ice/Thermal/FF shields, Single Heals... it is becoming slightly ridiculous.
Let's face it, City of Heroes subs aren't booming out of control, and there are points where teaming is hard to pull off, due to lack of people or become or off-times on the servers.
So, when myself, who plays mainly during the middle of weekdays (offtime) and primarily solos, takes a secondary but finds I have to skip 2 or 3 powers because they are useless to me, it gets frustrating.
Now, with the fact that these powers are becoming AoE (excluding ST heals), will they affect us if we are within the 30' radius of the powers?
If this is the case, that means we are forced to team to be able to hit ourselves with the buffs we want.
If this isn't the case, we still get the benefit of being more involved through other powers and less end use, but are still excluded no matter how you look at it.
I just think it is about time that we should be able to use these powers on ourselves, and I don't think that is too much to ask, or is being unreasonable.
Has anyone heard of ANY change to this?
Anyone know a definite answer to if the upcoming AoE aspect of the buffs affect us?
I love this game, but find it silly needing to make one build for solo, and one for team, because I am a "Bad player" since I didn't take my ice shields even though my play-time means I am solo 95% of the time.
Sorry, just needed to vent this frustration...
My apologies...
Long answer: The targeted AoE aspect change to shield buffs, SB, etc. will only hit other players and not on your, even if you are within the 30' range because they will still be tagged as "cannot be used on self"...which pretty much includes any and all targeted buffs and heals as you cannot "target", IE click on, yourself.
The change to the buffs mentioned in the Overview was done to help ease the "suffering" of many buffers who spent what they felt to be an inordinate amount of time buffing allies, particularly in the new iTrials, and less time actually participating in said trials. Granted not everyone felt this was needed, as well as some people aren't entirely pleased with it due to potential problems (see Memphis_Bill's concerns in the official thread).
Sadly...as stated...you're still not going to be on the receiving end of any buffs you dish out to your teammates. But then...many Defender primaries/'Troller and Corr secondaries, are much more geared towards team play than solo efforts. Among them are FF, Sonic Res, Thermal, Emp, and a couple of others. That's just the way they are...they're MADE that way (kinda like Lady Gaga...but that's a whole other bag of weird we won't go into).
As a slight aside...several of the Def/Troller/Corr buff/debuff sets are also available to MM's, so the powers you'd skip on a solo def/troller/corr cuz you get no use from you could take to buff pets. .....Jus' sayin'. -

Actually, i did. Even bookmarked it. Also found me a build (though not from Local) on an Ill/Stormy that's perma-hastened and only a 1.7 second lag between PA's. Gonna be a doozy tho...couple of purples in there...like Ragnarok.
-
FB also has a fairly decent chance to knockdown a baddie where gloom goes nom nom nom on their tohit. FB...potentially stops a runner from running. Gloom...just chews a hole in their butt while they run away.
Both are nearly equally as funny, really...then again...i just get a chuckle outta putting some poor dumb bas*ard on his behind cuz he thought he was gonna get away from me. (I miss my big rock on my Stone/WP Brute...) -
<Giant foot comes stomping down from the top of the screen>
And now for something completely different...(hehe...sorry...it just struck me with the randomness of the post)
In seriousness tho, this idea could work pretty well. I've thought about doing some "diamond-ish" stuff with my Earth/Stone dommy, Rocky Martin as a sort of bling-style costume. Never thought about thorns crystal spines. Could be kinda nice, actually. -
sorry to drag this one up again but....i got to thinking about something...
AFAIK, the individual ticks on Rain powers have their own chance to hit...
Each tick in HOB for DP has it's own 60% chance to hit...
Granted...HOB doesn't tick NEARLY as many times as most rains do (and OMG just thought about blizzard too...ick...but beside the point)...but would the reactive work the same way in HOB as it does in rains? -
Pretty certain that Bill and the others are correct on this. Proc's don't add to the "attack types" on powers, they just add a x chance of y amount of z-type damage every time you connect with your target...flat out. If they were added attack types, it would (or SHOULD) show in the detailed info for the attack. IE Mental Blast would change from "Ranged, Psi" to "Ranged, Psi, Fire" (or some such depending on proc).
But, since it's not an integral part of the power, then no...defenses shouldn't apply. -
woof...alrighty...thanks, LM. I'll see what i can work out...still an IO n00b
-
I'm thinking about dragging out an old Ill/Storm troller i've had sitting at lvl 21 for a loooong time and just curious...
How much recharge is needed to perma PA between, assuming at least ~95% in the power itself which brings down PA's recharge to somewhere in the range of 2 minutes. How much recharge would i need beyond that (my math ain't what it used to be....that and i never was good with percentages..........ok.....i always SUCKED at percentages)? -

As an add to DG's reply
...and you can respec into a different patron pool if you want. -
I'm also in the Stone/WP brute camp. I started mine in Praetoria, and soloed much of the content there with very few issues. Did a couple of farm runs last night with him and he was soloing +2 mobs of battle maiden's minions with absolutely no problems what so ever. Granted i've so far managed to get his S/L defense tp 29.68% and his energy def is 28% and change (which means i beat the hell outta rikti). My first toon ever to try and boost my defenses with. I was damn near out-tanking the WP tank we had on the team...course...he had no IO sets, he was either generic IO'd or SO'd.
Stone Melee is very ST oriented but hits like a 10 ton truck when it gets going on a brute. I'm going Stone/WP/Earth with mine. May not be the premium build...but i think i'm gonna like it. -
well....i don't have nearly as many lvl 50's as you do but...lessee...
when GR came out, i started with a stone/will brute named Wil Stone...
Oh..no..wait. I started with a kin/elec stalker named Kin Raiken...got him up to like lvl 10 before switching out to Wil Stone, who solo'd much of the Praet content. (btw, this was with the intent to team once a week with a regular group. Managed to catch him up to the rest of the team, got out of Praet Earth and gained a few more levels. At the same time i was tinkering with another toon by the name of Gunslinger Raiken. A DP/Elec blaster. I got so hooked on him that i switched him out with Wil Stone for that particular group night. Managed to keep him around on that team till he dinged lvl 50.
Did some Incarnate work with Gunslinger, managed to get him up to a second tier Spiritual. Got a bit meh'd with the repeated TF's and such, started a few new toons, one or 2 of which might have made it as far as level 12 before returning back to Wil Stone, who went from his late 30's at the time to level 44 now. Then i've taken a few weeks off.
And that's just been since GR hit.
Some of my projects before and after GR.
Kinetic Pistols: Kin/DP def
Infinite Bullets: AR/NRG blaster
Raiken the Summoner: Demon/Thermal MM
Teek Freak: Grav/NRG dommy
KinKitsune: KM/Nin stalker
Kinetic Raiken: KM/Elec scrapper
Devon Trace: SD/KM tanker
Shey Fioras: PB
Jack Blackheart: Widower
Rocky Martin: Earth/Earth dommy
Tel'a Jhin Va: Plant/Thorn dommy
Rick Raven: Thugs/TA mm
MekMaster: Bots/FF mm
Renzoukuu: Ninjas/Dark mm
Capt. Stormbringer: Mercs/Storm mm
Kaotic Storm: Plant/Storm controller
Swordmaster Po: DB/Regen scrapper
Ninja T: MA/Regen scrapper
...and quite a few more than i flip-flop back and forth between.
None of these listed are lvl 50 and run the gambit between level 8 and mid 40's. I've even been known to switch between 2, 3, and even 4 toons in the timespan of a few hours based on a whim (thankfully it's usually around friends that know me and have learned to put up with me...lol).
Sometimes i can focus on a single toon, but rarely for more than a couple of weeks at best. I swap moods for melee, range, control, SMASH!, pinata punching, support, like a woman changes outfits.
For the record: I blame my friend for this. Before i met him, i'd created a single toon and played him exclusively. That all changed after we crossed paths. Damn him!! -
yup...have had that happen when running my grav dommy with a friend's mind dommy.

Quote:Had a similar experience once, and one that i've have yet been able to replicate, much to my chagrin as it was cool and funny as hell. A team member hit a mob with air superiority, knocking him up at the same time i was Crane Kicking him. The result?
(also on a side note, on a power like levitate its rated to accept knockback IOs, however it does not increase the mag of the knockup at all, it has a mag 8 knockup, and in mids it shows that knockup going to mag 50 or something with a set of kinetic crash in it, but in game it doesnt appear to enhance the knockup at all)
Poor bastid went flying backwards doing the backflipping animation from the ASup hit...and landed on his back iirc. Coolest. Hit. EVER! -
Quote:...yeah..conceded...Many people like leaving their travel powers on in combat. This is specifically why I pointed out the end cost. I don't personally condone it but I see it very very often. Not as often as I see SS'ers leaving that on none stop by any means but not rare in the least
Seen plenty of SS'ers running it full time, plus there are a few times where people do run fly during combat, which is just plain silly to me but...suppose that if you have it and don't have hover...but need to be airborne...beggars can't be choosers.
Quote:It would be epic, if it weren't so ridiculously and punitively low a cap.
I know, I know, balance, but seriously, I'm practically getting beaten by Ninja Run here.
I often beat flyers when using NR toons. Even more so when said NR toons have such things as Quickness, Lightning Reflexes, and the like. ...Or if i'm using my Kin/Sonic defender. Siphon Speed+IR+NR=Buh-Bye -
Quote:Ever since Fly got its end cost reduced (geez...how many issue ago was that?), i've never had any kind of endurance problems while flying nor have i ever needed to slot an End reducer into it whether it was a toggle heavy toon or not. And this is on toons that are running either SO's or generic IO's. No buffs other than stamina and no IO bonuses. The only time end cost from fly should pose a problem is if you're trying to run it while you're in combat, which if you are...you should be slapped. It takes 1end/second. Thats as much as having Tough, Weave and a Patron shield all running at the same time with no end reduction in them.
The reason your not noticing the end drain as much could stem from any number of things but a combination of buffs and IO bonus is my guess
The increase to the base speed of fly (read: pretty much capped from the get-go) is just an added bonus. Now it doesn't need end redux OR fly enhancements. Slap in a Freebird: +Stealth (or other IO of your choice) and call it a day. -
Just as an add to the HoB discussion...
Yes...it is TONS better than it actually sounds on paper.
When even conning, my DP/Elec blaster routinely wipes out minions with ease, unless they're lethal resistant, in which case they're usually at least seriously hurt. I have done some street sweeping with him in IP on a few occasions and jumped into some of the larger groups of mobs like Nemies and HoB usually takes out 80% of the group...at least.
Its a good power, if a little risky due to the 4s animation and it's DoT nature.
Solo, it's probably better to Death Blossom with standard rounds as you'll usually knockdown mobs for a bit less incoming fire. If you've got someone around to act as an aggro sponge...Incendiary Rounds all the way. the extra fire dot adds up nicely. -
-
Well...most everyone else here has pretty much covered your questions here so....i really don't have anything to add but...
Welcome to CoX, MetalBeardSolid. -
I'm not sure about an IDF (hell...i don't even know what that IS..lol) but i did do an ITF with him before making my current second build....and he died all of once on it. I suspect he'd do a bit better if i tried that one again.
(IDF? Idiotically Dumb Faceplants? ....There's no force in the world capable of stopping that.)
EDIT:
Logged back onto my brute...who is a former Praet...and it hit me...IDF...Imperial Defense Force....LOL -
I've been playing CoX for close to 6½ years now and have finally accomplished something i've never managed to do until now...
Solo a +0/x8 mission...
I recently setup a second build on my Stone/Willpower brute and was running thru +2, +3, and +4 missions pretty easily as it was. My defenses aren't soft-capped as of yet, but they're not too shabby. S/L is close to 20% each, F/C/E/NE are sitting at 29-30% and Psi is somewhere in the low-mid 20s. Not bad...but not top of the class either. But hey...for me, this is pretty darn good concidering that i'm still pretty much a novice with IOs and building up my defenses.
Still...for grins and giggles, fully expecting to get creamed, I crank my diff up to x8 for my next crey mission. I leap in and....wow...i survived. More than that...i kicked their ***! Second mob....same story. Still going strong.
About the 4th mob in, i get slammed with Crey Narcotic temporary power (read:aw sh*t...i'm effing debuffed now). Doesn't matter...I keep on trucking. At several points during the mission i'm taking on more than one spawn at a time and winning GLORIOUSLY!
Never in my days have i ever been able to pull something like this off. Granted, i'm not sure how well i'd fare against some of the other groups out there (tho i know i can do this with at least Rikti and probably Council/5th Column too) but for me, this one mission in and of itself is a feat for me. And Wil Stone is only lvl 42 right now...so he still has some room to grow.
I now, finally, after all this time...feel what it is like...to be truly....AWESOME!
Best part of it for me is...i really wasn't trying that hard to get there...just sorta turned out that way.
PS:
Yeah yeah...i know..."try it on a <name your brand of squishy here> sometime" and "You're a brute, you should be soloing <name your difficulty here> by now!"
Baby steps, people...baby steps. lol -
-
Small nitpick but...stalkers get a base crit percentage...around 10% i think...and a +3% for every team member within 5ft of them. Stalkers can crit when they're by themselves. I don't know what the crit rate for CS on a stalker is, though. Could be a smidge higher as per a scrapper.
