  1. I did a second build (well...actually i respecced my first build as i was using my second build) and worked SA into the mix on my elec/elec dom. Got it 5 slotted with SO's, 1acc, 2dam, 2rech...and honestly...it's not really all that bad.

I'm inclined to agree with Kitsune on Mids having some screwiness with SA. IIRC it was showing about the same damage on a dom as it was with the scrap...~30ish. On that particular piece of paper...it looks like total crud...but in practice...i'm finding it rather nice. My dom is only lvl 24 right now...so i don't have any AoE damage i can toss out, and SA is helping with that, even if it is only once every 70 or so seconds. Hopefully i'll be able to squeeze some more out of it if i ever manage to figure out one of those high recharge, near/or permadom builds without having to dip heavy into a bunch of powers i don't wanna take.

Actually, /elec has a bit more ranged attacks than melee. Charged Bolts, Lightning Bolt, Static Field, Zapp, and technically Volty...but that could be omitted. Melee attacks are Charged Brawl, Havoc Punch, and Thunderstrike.

It could be argued though, that in /elec's case...the melee attacks are better. Course it could also be that my build thus far doesn't have the recharge to make a steady ranged chain.

My grav/energy dom is in his mid 30's and can make a steady chain of power bolt>power blast>power bolt>power push when hasten is running.

First off I'm up for any AT suggestions, but this is a good starting point as it seems more people here reply, and also since severl scrapper options is in the running.

I'm needing range, melee attacks, able to withstand alot of damage.
One option for primary is MA, since he is known as a martial artist that seems to be a good choice, but from watching the cartoon we all know he's far more then just that. Ma lacks ranged attacks. So that brought me to KM. KM has melee and ranged attacks which seem to fit for what i'm needing. However the animation might hurt the concept a bit, to me I can look past that. Even if I go with a primart that doesn't have ranged, i can always choose an epic power that plugs the hole a bit (if that's the case any suggestions on which set? hero or vill. side)

Then comes the secondary, seems several of those could work so I'm open for any thoughts in this area. FA has some nice bonuses to help out and could give him the yellow flame look when he goes super. But some of the powers might not go aswell. Invul. I could see that working all the way around, been a while since I've played one so I might be forgetting about something. Energy Aura, again another one that could work but a couple powers might not fit the theme. SR could even be in the running. Just so many that could work but I'm wanting it to be playable and the powers to work good enough so I can solo even if it means getting a little off track with theme but staying close enough so others will get what I'm going for.

And with Brutes getting stronger as they fight, well that could make them a good choice aswell, so any thoughts here?

Then there's always Blasters. With the primary attacks and certain secondary I could see it working very well for the concept. Although it'll take a lot more to get him to be as survival as I would like. Again, give any thoughts or ideas you may hiave on going Blaster.

Now for really good survival, with Tanks getting MA that could be an options. Can't forget about KM for them aswell. Tanks primaries, just like scrappers secondaries alot of these could work, but which would be the best for survival and concept rolled into one?

Now that brings me to PB's. For some reason they stuck out to me for this concept for a while now. They get a good mixture of range and melee to tie it all together very nicely. With the new changes how survival will it be now?

I'm up for considering any and all AT's, just posted some of my thoughts as a starting point, so if there's something that I didn't mention that might would work better, please tell me your opinion.

I've been stuck on this for a while now trying to decide which way to go, so for whom ever might have some ideas, thoughts, pointers, opinions or whatever it may be, please feel free to tell me. I will greatly appreciate it.

Thanks for any and all help!!!

To pop another thought in your head...in regards to a melee primary (or secondary for tank) would be to wait a bit until Street Justice hits the Paragon Market. While it lacks in the ranged department, as most melee sets do, it has nice animations that can somewhat give that DBZ feel. And with the combo system that StJ has...it also adds to the flavor as alot of DBZ fights had a tendency to throw out numerous smaller attacks and then follow up with the big whammy (of course...this was after about 2-4 episodes of TALKING about said big whammy).

...There's always APP and Judgements for ranged options later on in life.

SS couldwork for a dbz'ish heavy, knock guys all over the place, feel too...tho it wouldn't be my first choice (surprise...i'm one of the few people that DOESN'T like SS). Factoring in Rage for the "powered up" effect. Some of the alternate anims could work.

Edit: As an added thought, in regards to melee armor sets...SR could work too. How many times have guys in that been in a fight and one of them is so outclassed they can't even land a single punch as they were all DODGED!

As far as building a blaster in the vein of dbz...the closest i could ever come up with is an energy/energy blaster. Energy Blast has the secondary effect of knocking stuff around...and let's face it...you see that ALOT in the series! Although, with many of the alternate animations for sets like Psy Blast, where the attacks originate from the hands, and combined with some recoloring, this COULD potentially work as well.

/energy manip to me is one of the best fits for blaster secondary. 3 hard hitting blaps, and more self buffs than you can shake a Namek at. If you don't really want the glowing pom poms around your fists..you MIGHT be able to tone that down by a good margin by coloring the blaps with dark setting and using black.

Of course...this is all going off the basis of a Saiyan style character. There are other ways you could do a DBZ style toon based off ideas of other characters...like Guildo of the Ginyu force (he was the little green dude that could freeze time...Time Manipulation anyone?)...and he wasn't that tough either.

Edit2: Yeah...just caught the PB section of your post....aaannndddd yeah...that could work...but don't expect to reach anything that would scream "THIS! IS! DRAGONBALL (Z)!"...at least in the damage dept.

Spring Attack is the new Tier 5 power in the Leaping Pool. It's basically a teleport-esque attack in the vein of Lightning Rod and Shield Charge (tho i expect much crappier). You select it by having at least 2 powers from the Leaping Pool...and the earliest you can pick it up is level 14.

I'm pretty much the same with my 50 DP/Elec blaster. Every so often I've used a different ammo type, but for the most part stick to Inciny ammo. Defenders get better results from the other ammo types...but the damage is just to anemic for my taste.

that's a negative. Most of the Plant/ powers can be used from hover/fly with pretty much the only exception being Spirit Tree (and i can't %100 confirm this as i only ever had it briefly before respeccing out of it). A few of the powers require the TARGET to be near/on the ground however...but you can be airborne all day long.

EDIT: Just logged onto my plant/thorn dommy. And ALL power can be activated/used while flying in the air. Although 2 powers require you to place targeting reticle on the ground. Spirit Tree and Carrion Creepers. But you do NOT have to be on the ground to use them.
  12. well...some of what i had in that build was done as a sample from someone else. FA slotted with the GSFC was part of it...as were the shields and slottings (most of it anyway). I slotted the attacks myself and was mainly focusing on sets that boosted recovery, regen, and HP.

The LotG's would actually be funded by hero merits...so no real inf cost there...save for salvage and construction, of course.

I didn't add in OwtS cuz i don't usually mess with most T9 "godmode" powers much. ...Of course i say this and my lvl 50 elec/elec brute DOES have Power Surge...

Really didn't think too much about the LBE/FB thing...which is toooootally doable.

And after checking out the build you drew up in mids, Fin....yeah...you definitely whooped me there. Seems a much better build than what i came up with.

I really need to work out the kinks in my build making...but that's what i have you guys for. Still learning how to do all of this IO and Mids crap (i'm still stuck in the SO/Generic IO generation).

    Thanks for the replies, guys.
  13. A while back, I popped in here asking about a build for a Shield/Kin tanker. Was playing the toon last night and enjoying the heck out of myself tanking...and doing pretty well i might add for mostly SO's, if i do say so myself.

Anyhoo...I dusted off Mids, pulled up a partial build that someone had done to show how easy it was to softcap a shielder and started tweaking (the build mostly had just defenses slotted up to hit softcap). And...here's what i came up with. Probably a bit of a "budget build" for much of it.

    Opinions?

  14. concepts that work in my mind pretty easy...

Thugs/TA MM...if you're working on an all Natural theme...it doesn't get much more than this. You call in a bunch of hoodlums to do your dirty work for you, shoot people with pistols, and whip out a bow and shoot funky arrows that do funky stuff.

As mentioned...Mercs/Traps or /TA could also work, and Demons/Thermal. Demons/Pain works too, but when i first heard about Demon MMs...the VERY first thing that popped into my head was Demon/Thermal. No brainer for me.

Necro/Storm and Demon/Storm MM could be worked as well. Necro for the Banished Pantheon angle and Demon is just plain "you're a summoner". But that might be stretching it a smidge.

One of my first Kinetic toons was a Energy/Kin corr. Just seemed perfect to me. Energy Blast is the "kinetic" or "force" blast set of the City of... verse IMO. Why? KNOCKBACK! Most of the attacks in the set can put mobs on their rear end, often to the aggravation of the masses. If sending a guy flying 20 feet away doesn't SCREAM kinetic energy...i don't know what does.

I could probably come up with tons more if i sat down and ran over all the powersets for all the AT's...but i'm honesly too damn lazy for that. Lol!

Honestly...after looking at what you've got here...I'd say that your "issue" here isn't CONCEPTUAL holes as much as it is THEMATIC holes...i.e. matching, or close to, powersets such as Fire/Fire, Electric/Electric, Ice/Ice...etc. You can make a concept out of anything...but making it fit a theme, or motif if you will, may or may not be possible. Just my POV.

Still though...some interesting thoughts you've quoted to virtual ink. And I agree...much of the controller stuff has NO rhyme or reason! Sad really.

I can confirm this. I think it was either the numina or the miracle proc i had in RttC and it only kicked in when i was in range of mobs.

Actually, this bind would switch in between the two everytime it was used. I've used this, a hover/fly, and CJ/SJ bind to great effect, albeit on a different key. Works like a charm. As a note however, you have to put everything after /bind c (or your chosen key) in quotation marks, otherwise it won't work right, just as PR demonstrated.

  21. The day that Defenders are made obsolete by Corruptors is the very same day that Controllers will be made obsolete by Dominators.

This is by way of (hypothetical) logic:

Dominators have pretty much all control sets as Controllers do, minus Illusion. When perma-dommed, they have controls on par, or better than controllers, mez protection, and better overall damage. If they were to proliferate Illusion Control, then there would be no further need to play controllers when you could play an Illusion Dominator that can attack while his PA soaks up aggro.

    ...blah blah blah...

Nah...don't really see this happening...in either case. Even IF by chance that ALL sets were proliffed to their respective counterparts, you would still see a mixture of AT's being played. I don't see any AT being "useless" anytime in the forseeable future (save for MAYBE stalkers...and yeah...i do have a few of those too).

So please...leave the dead horse in peace. Poor things been through enough hell.

+1 SO user here. I don't often use IO's below level 33 when i can start slotting 35 basic IO's, and only have a couple of toons that have IO sets. My first major success with sets is a stone/wp brute that's lvl 47 right now and is a small purple away from S/L softcap...and that was fairly recent.

My grav/nrg dommy slotted KB sets into both Lift and Propel (the one that gives a + rech and KB protection).

I was kinda planning on slotting the End Mod proc of chance for stun (forget the name) into basically every power i could on my elec/elec dommy...but that didn't get very far. It sounded better on paper than it did in practice.
  23. Gonna have to ad a +1 to MM's too. I have a Bots & Bubbles MM and a Demon/Therm MM that were somewhat shelved for a while. I might jump on one of them for a mission or 2 then log to something else because of the constant buffing of all of my pets. Well...constant as in every ~4 minutes...not including death.

Plus, with the halved end cost for Pet Buff powers...now i don't really mind seeing my pets fall as much because now i don't have to worry about bottoming out my endurance thru resummoning and rebuffing. And I can do it in a FRACTION of the time it would have taken me before if i had multiple pets fall down.

Also...gonna have to toss in a +1 to Kinetic ANYTHING. They probably had it as bad or worse than shielders due to ID and SB being such short durations. I haven't broken my Kin/Sonic Def since the change went live (been working on MM's...including a new one. Necro/Thermal that just dinged 14...my highest necro EVER)...but i shall...at some point.
