They really need to rank SGs by the *quality* of the prestige. We all know that prestige purchased by the tears of the market are the purest form of prestige.

That said, I'm in as soon as I rebuild my bank of inf. I've gone a little destruction crazy, burning off a couple billion so my 7 year old could play base builder and buying high/selling low (or giving away) some upper mid-range IOs just for kicks. I don't think I have a single character with over a billion inf now.

It's mostly farmers who pay these extreme prices. If there is anyone deserving of the ire of the casual level 50 warshade just trying to purple out his 2nd build and slot up some Panacea IOs for his casual PvPing, it's the farmers. Without the billions of inf they generate, we marketeers couldn't get our billions from playing the market.

What I do find funny, though, is that people never look on the purple prices from the other side. Sure, they cost loads to buy, but why does no one ever mention the fact that if you sell them you get loads of money? :S
That's because in the history of the market, no one has ever sold any purple IOs for any amount of money. Those on the market come from a small horde of leprechauns the Smurphy forces to farm purples. He collects 2 billion inf per purple listed, forcing the leprechauns to take time out of the 13 minutes of break he gives them each day during which they hunt Miracle +rec IOs which they also sell to raise funds to pay the bunny.

It's a horrible, cruel joke this market. Turns out you can't sell anything on it because of the bunny.

Also, in case you were wondering, no team in the history of the game has ever completed a TF/SF without a pain dom. or empathy support character that has only 1 attack. True fact!

  7. Checked my stock on a few characters that had some in holding. So far, nothing of the right kind, but will check a few more and report back if I find anything.

  8. I have continued to buy and sell the same items on my 2 primary marketeers, and listed the first rounds of sales for 25-100% more than I sold them for pre-merger. So far, everything has sold in under 48 hours, so clearly my mark-up isn't enough. I figure that so much is still sitting off-market due to many people playing Praet content. I'm there to help the shoppers still wanting such things, and I only ask the tiniest of excessive convenience fees.

My thinking on this really is that the new HAM/VAM system is going to kill a lot of the pool C luxury market, and I want to unload as much as I can before the crash. If I'm wrong, I'll have a highly liquid pool to get back in the game, and if I'm right I'm trying to get mine before too many other people realize this and muscle in on my wins.

There's also a conversation to be had (and I think it's been had a few times) about "outing" niches. I dunno if this is the thread to have it in, though. I do suspect that you'd get angry PMs from people with no lives if you routinely outed "big" niches with screenies.
I would be surprised if that were the case. When I was more active in the forums, I know I along with many others would routinely point out exactly what niches I worked in and never once did I have someone move in on a niche in any manner that I could detect was causing me to reap smaller profits. I spent over a year telling people every time they asked for a pointer on where to start that Numina's were excellent easy resources, and after telling literally dozens of people to work there I still kept getting big profits. I can't say it's true for every one of the ebil bastiches working the market that also post here, but for me I even often go so far as to post my specific buy and sell points on specific IOs/recipes/salvage items without worries of losing my riches.

  12. I have billions of "stuff" on the markets. I'm just leaving it alone. Too much to track and worry about. If I lose some, I'm still stupid rich. If I lose it all, I'll just get more. If everything works without problems I'll just keep getting richer. Not even considering changing anything I currently do. I'll adjust when the market changes.

  13. Haven't done TA/DP defender, but I have done DP/TA corr. It's the only TA combo I've yet found that was any fun for me. I can't explain why, because I don't know why, but there it is. Redraw hell has never bothered me on the build.

  14. Oh, just for fun I'll take a shot at getting it, then. 300M.

  15. I so much hate that I missed this, just because I like to have what others cannot. I probably would have foolishly bid 0.25 * inf cap in the heat of the "auction" to get this and then wondered what to do with it and why I bid on it.

  16. My work was nowhere near as well done nor as helpful as what P^2 wrote up above/in the past, but I have left up my incomplete but almost useful guide on how I flip salvage that I wrote long ago to try helping people get started getting rich.

  17. I use a large portion of my ebil riches to help cover the cost of BaB's summer vacation home. We all know he actually runs everything.

Aside from that, I listen in global channels to people who want to buy modest goods off the market instead of trying to get the top-end stuff. When they can't afford such things, I go buy the stuff they want and drop it on them. I give moderate millions to SG and coalition folks so they can frankenslot early and start planning on better builds for later. I buy all salvage priced under 10 million and destroy it in categories where there are thousands for sale and zero bids (last time I did that, it took 3 hours to buy and destroy 11,000+ salvage!). I've converted a few billions to prestige so my 7-year-old son can play Barbie Base Builder in my private SG. I try to corner the market on a few of the "Good stuff" IOs and recipes, store them in my base, and keep supply low so others can profit more.

And, every once in a while, I like to try to do some marketeering and get richer but instead grossly miss the mark and loose hundreds of millions. I don't so much enjoy the losing, but I do learn and get better.

Give me a character name and I'll send you the funds you need to start getting nice stuff and a stealth IO that you can use. D/D is so awesome that you don't *need* the good stuff to play, but it's one of the power sets that improves the most in my opinion when kitted out. It goes from awesome and amazing to jaw-droppingly fun.

  21. Given that you're at 26, you are high enough to focus on what makes my D/D feel most effective. Shadow Fall plus either a +stealth IO or super speed. This gives you full invisibility. Make sure you have Darkest night, and slot it with at least 1 or 2 tohit debuffs. Then, run past a couple of spawns of enemies, put Darkest Night on a Lt. or Boss, then run back through the spawns you passed up. Doing this will gather 2-4 spawns together and bring them to you. Before they get there, drop Tar Patch to slow them and cluster them even more. Then, pop out of hiding and just hit the full spawn with Tenebrous Hentaicles and Nightfall over and over until they are dead.

The combination of a slotted Darkest Night plus the -tohit effect from your 2 cone attacks will put you in the spot of almost never getting hit. When you do get hit, Twilight Grasp should be more than enough to keep you alive. You don't even need to use your single-target attacks until you've beaten most of the enemies. Honestly, from about level 25 on I rarely used anything but Tentacles and Nightfall until I got down to 2 or 3 enemies. And darkest night is such an effective debuff that you can usually get multiple spawns gathered as long as they all get stuck in the debuff range, something you can ensure happens via tar patch.

Once I got those two attacks well slotted, I ran solo at -1/x4 until I got into my late 30s and had a number of good IO set bonuses, then I ran -1/x6 or +0/x4. It's not super fast, but it's pretty safe, and gathering multiple spawns does help with the speed.

Good luck - you have one of the best available sets in the game. Now you just have to figure out how you can get it to work well for you.

I posted to ask if he meant 100 million, and he responded that his suggestion of 100,000 was correct. I briefly explained why this was not workable and he basically said "I don't care". I was prepared to write him off as an anomaly when another person posted pretty much the same thing: add a cap to the market to stop the "greed".

So I was wondering, how many people do you think actually believe that this is a viable method for the market to work?
I know I haven't been around in the forums lately, but I still read them on occasion and still play. That excuse for my absence, I just wanted to come in here and say I, for one, would *LOVE* to see a crazy low inf cap like that on the market. I no longer play enough to need the uber IOs, but I still like making the big income from the market so that when I have time to play again later this year I'll be rich enough to uber IO my favorite characters.

Thank you, Eek, for bringing this excellent idea to our attention. And thank the person who proposed for me, if you would. I have loads of valuable IOs that I could get feeeelthy stinkin' rich selling off market were such a cap implemented.

Wow. I have crazy amounts of Karma and Steadfast KB protection crafted IOs across all the levels. I quite selling them quite some time ago after prices dropped to where I was only making 2-3M profit per sale. Looks like it's time to unload some of my excess.

  24. I've seen chatter in "TheMarket" global when folks are wanting stuff that can't be satisfied "Na0Z!" with the market down. Seems to work well for that, since we have the ability to mail stuff now.
