Quote:Fair enoughTechnically according to the Wiki http://wiki.cohtitan.com/wiki/Client#Game_Ports
It requires TCP and UDP ports to be open
--Rad -
Quote:The protocols are TCP - read the support articles on which ports need to be opened to the various servers. But, I am not saying they are or are not NCSoft's fault. I am saying there is more then the two possible causes presented; "my" computer and their servers.Unless you know the communication protocols CoX uses, you could be pretty wrong with saying it isn't a problem on NCSoft's side. It is the communication layer that should find broken routes with high packet-loss and adjust accordingly. Of course it wouldn't be able to adjust the routes if the problem is at the players own network or at the ncsoft entry node. As those can't be skipped by using another route.
You are correct that the route can be adjusted but this also would not be controlled by NCSoft, which was my point.

Quote:1. I have nothing running when playing the game so no it not my end 2.I play 7 mmo's atm and never have any prob other then CoH 3. If this is the prob there is nothing i can do to fix it and its NCsoft responsibility to provide a stable connection too their severs not mine. 4. I have talked to may ppl ingame that have the same prob. BTW i can play on guardian and justice and i dont lag but if i log on most any other sever it laggs bad.
To address 2, every single one of those MMO's traffic will take a different path to arrive at the companies servers. Just like every website you visit. Rarely is traffic sent directly between client and server. Generally, it is passed along from client to host, to host, to host. The amount of hops will vary. Packet loss and lag (a delay in the information being received between hosts) can happen any where along the route. Based on that route while it can be subjectively compared (I don't lag while playing on this game while I do here), it cannot really be objectively compared unless the path is identical which is just not going to happen. Then and only then can you compare them directly.
Which leads us to 3, if the lag is occurring somewhere in the route between your client and theirs it most certainly is not NCSoft's responsibility to fix it. Now they can certainly pinpoint the problem area based on problem reports submitted through customer service requests and reach out to the owner of the host with the problem. With the hope that they resolve it but, it is ultimately the owner of that hosts issue to resolve.
Regarding 4, as I have said before, others do not have this problem. This does not discount that you are or that others are. There are two problems with the statement: 1) it is just as anecdotal as saying I do not and neither do the people I talk to in game and 2) If it was specific to the Server itself then EVERYONE would have this issue, just as I stated before. I know that is not the case. Why? Because of my anecdotal evidence, I don't have the issue. You can believe it or not. Regardless, I have direct information that eliminates this as a cause. You saying others have it will not change that fact.
BTW, both Guardian and Justice are in the same location. It is unsurprising that both do not have lag for you.

Quote:No, that does not prove the problem is on NCSoft's side. The problem could be:I have no prob running my network or PC on ANYTHING other then CoH so yes there must be something wrong on NCsoft side.
1) On your end (programs running concurrently, using the same port as CoH where other games and applications do not) for instance.
2) A problem at your ISP. Typically though this would prevent any traffic from leave and probably is not the cause.
3) A problem on any point along the route to the NCSoft servers. And since other actions heck even other games, will take different routes this is probably the cause.
4) A problem on NCSoft's side. If this was the case every player would experience the problems as I have stated before. This is not the case. It is probably not the cause.

Quote:Ultimus, you may want to re-read that portion. It said we should have learned about the Coming Storm by this point. This is according to interviews back in the i10 or i11 timeframe. We were supposed to learn about it around issue 15. Priorities changed and that did not happen. It's still Coming.Wait what? Where did we find out what the "Coming Storm" was? What is it?

I've tried the same method I used for my Avatar but that fails.
If it matters, the image properties are:

Thanks!
2) Don't use the url option! Type the where you want it to go.

Quote:I had no intention to be rude or pointing fingers. But I am trying to take a foot stand to this re-occurring problem and solve it once and for all. I have tried to use "TweakCOH" but that has no more use than my tracert's in command prompt. I will probably send a message to NCSoft's tech support in the future but not just yet.
Let me give some more details about my speific problem to see if we can come up with a solution. Having multiple tracerts from different areas can find the problem much easier.
I play mostly on Victory and occastionally on Virtue. Leaving DXP out of this issue I have little to no "Dropped Packets on Virtue Server coming from Florida. On the other hand Victory has a massive amount of dropped packets. It might just well be a Local Hub or a International Hub right before my connection with the Servers. But casting all blame off of NCSoft does not fix the problem.
Teamwork is the only way to fix this.
The problem is that according to your traceroute, the issue is with tenge12/1.br02.ash01.pccwbtn.net not NC Soft server's. This is what bbphantom was trying to say. NCSoft should not be held responsible for an issue outside of their network.
If there was a problem with the servers, every player would be affected by it. That simply is not the case.
As for Virtue and Victory, they are in separate locations; California and Virgina respectively. Your traffic from Florida will travel a different route to get to each server. It is certainly possible for one route to be dropping packets while the other does not.
I do agree that having traceroutes from those with the issue could help pinpoint the trouble spot and resolve the issue though.

Hmmm. This is a tough question as I can't choose just one. My favorites though are below in no particular order.
Intensify (Fire/Kin Controller)
Conviction (Will/DB Tank)
Shamanistic (Plant/Emp Controller)
Roquelaure (Nin/Nin Stalker)
Delinquent (Thugs/Traps Mastermind) -
Quote:An incomplete game? Shenanigans! You judge incomplete games that are still being developed? How shallow.
It is set to go to open beta in 16 days, and GM in 30. It is probably feature complete for launch at this point or pretty damn well near. Most of the remaining development will be fine tuning. That is to say, they will not be making major revisions or adding systems in that time frame.
As for whether or not it is any good, I couldn't tell you. I have not played it. But, saying it is cannot be judged because it is incomplete is a load of bunk.

I have this power "taser dart" which is listed as a Temporary Power in my Power window. It doesn't show up in my Manage Enhancements window and I don't seem to be able to add enhancements. This taser dart is often wildly inaccurate so I'd like to be able to give it some accuracy. What is a temporary power? Is it going to go away? And is there no way to improve it?
[/ QUOTE ]
Taser Dart is one of the origin powers. It is a permanent temporary power (oxymoron, I know). They used to last until you hit level 10, but, they are permanent now. Really it comes down to it cannot be enhanced (like other temp powers) but, you will always have it.

So what is the first thing you are doing with this?

Buy it!

[ QUOTE ]
So I did a search and checked the FAQ and I couldn't find an answer. If it has already been answered, my apologies.
When you upgrade from a 14 day trial to a normal account, do you lose the remaining days of your trial or are they added to the 30 days you get from buying the game?
[/ QUOTE ]
The 30 days are added. So, UPGRADE (not add) away!

Nothing for anything volume or SFX in optionlist.
[/ QUOTE ]
ah well, it was worth a shot.

If there is one, it would be done with /optionset. Unfortunately, I can't seem to find one for SFX volume. I'm not ingame but, perhaps it can be found in /optionlist.

Southern Comfort seems ticked because he obviously likes to PvP and might not be happy with the fact that players going into zones for badges only will be in and out faster and just lead to less players in the zones, I know that is how I feel
[/ QUOTE ]
The problem with this point, Easy_Street, is that if those that are farming this set of badges choose not to obtain the badges at all because they don't wish to obtain them "the hard way" (as Southern Comfort suggests), then there is just the less amount of people in the zone that you describe after they leave. So, this begs the rhetorical question: Which situation is truly preferable for you? Do you want more targets in general or less targets who are more willing to participate?

I got a question. Don't bother telling me this is the wrong place cause I don't care. I have a question for players and I'm asking here.
IF the devs offered free transfers to everyone on Freedom server for one week, would you transfer all your main characters to a different server? If so which one?
I ask because I hate Freedom now that it has become a giant bucket of noob AE farm bile. It's always been a tad bit annoying, but I like the high population so I've stayed for 4 years...now I just want out but won't even consider paying $10 per characetr to find a new home. Just curious if anyone else would jump at this offer to make a new server your home for no charge.
[/ QUOTE ]
No. But then again, I only have only low level character on Freedom. Perhaps this would have been better asked here where those who presumably care about that server might read it.

One of the worst thing about getting rep badges the "right way" is rep decay. If spend a large amount of time earning rep and then can't play for 3-4 days all of your hard work is wasted and you have to start over. As awful as some may think it is, rep farming is one of the only ways to get those badges without months of frustration, especially if you are on a smaller server with little to no pvp community.
[/ QUOTE ]
So in other words you dont want to "Earn it" you just want to "Have it"
I have to agree with S Comfort.
Badges are accomplishments. A PvP badge is supposed to show you have what it takes and got enough kills to sport a title or have that particular badge
In the military you dont cheat to get your badges, you earn them
In the Boy Scouts badges are given out for excellence in a particular field
How is taking turns killing a friend to get a badge for PvP excelling at anything other than cheating the system?
[/ QUOTE ]
Even farming it they would have the "kills" to have "earned" it. They didn't defeat a less amount times then one who does it "right". No cheating there.
Or are you trying to equate some value to the badge beyond the numbers. Because unlike you examples, there will never be a value equaling, say a serviceman/woman being awarded the Medal of Honor, to earning any badge in a pretendy fun time game.

[ QUOTE ]
Heya, I'm just starting CoH and I'm thinking over what archetype to choose. I was wondering if there are any that are way overplayed or some that are generally underplayed.
The reason I ask is that used to play World of Warcraft; often times there were never enough healers or way to many damage dealers, and I don't want to be on the wrong end of that sort of thing here.
So, if anyone could give me some advice on what would be best to play, I'd appreciate it.
Thanks.
[/ QUOTE ]
First things first, Welcome to the Game and the Forums! Glad to have you here.
Second, yes there are some overplayed and underplayed but, not in the way you are thinking. This game does not require a holy trinity of tank, healer, damage. Almost any team make up can do any task. So, in certain contexts there are FOTM builds but, really anything can be played.
Since you are looking for what to play, we might be able to help there. What type of character do you like? Like it up close and personal, blast from a distance? Support or damage? Want pets to do your bidding? Like to mez the enemy? Want to be a hero or villain?

GvE for the jump pack is a little bit more helpful, IMO. But, if you know you plan to play for at least two months I would go for both and use the Architect Edition to snag a booster pack (Tech or Magic) that comes with it. Using that edition will give you another free month (worth $15 for only $20 - the booster on its own is $10. Thereby saving you $5 over buying the booster alone).
--Rad
[/ QUOTE ]
GvE gives 30 days too (the one in the original post was the full version, not the in-game pack).
[/ QUOTE ]
I realize that. My assumption is that OP is already choosing GvE (as that was my suggestion for a choice between them). As a result they would already have the free month and the goodies from that Edition. The GvE booster pack is irrelevant in that case. The rest of my reply was was extolling the benefits of having both editions instead of just GvE alone - the 1 free month that comes from the Architect Edition and the ability to choose one of the boosters.
