Quote:and I'm assuming you were not factoring in a monitor in that price point). I'd be interested to see the system spec either way.
Mmmm, got me on that one. No monitor.
To be honest, after price checking some things....
How to say this...?
Arcanaville is absolutely right.
(Again. >.>)
Edit: I built my rig slowly over a period of about 12 months. I could take a quick system snapshot, but sufficed to say its worth several thousand dollars from Dell/Alienware.
Core i7 3.33
8GB 800mhz (was getting some weird errors with 1333mhz *shrug*)
Nvidia 295 Galaxy (No need for SLI with this beast)
80GB SSD
500GB 7200 HDD
Win 7 64-bit
The most awesomest fan and heatsink system ever.
Built it for a total of about 1100, mostly due to sales, business contacts, friend contacts, and refurbished stuff. -
It really is a shame because with just one set of directions you could order Father Xmas' 600 dollar rig and spend almost half the money for about the same performance.
Directions like this.
There are so many sites and videos on Youtube to help. If your friend is tech savvy, he can help. Putting together a computer is just adult Legos (easier, actually... Legos can go anywhere, almost; computer parts cant). I taught myself through trial and error, and I'm pretty dumb. >.> Just ask around. -

Quote:First, here's the review of the box at Tom's Hardware. The PSU is an 80 Plus Bronze which means it's efficient.
From a power standpoint, I don't see a problem with a single GTX280. That leaves the question whether or not it would fit, lengthwise. Now quoting from the review;
Sounds like the system can handle both a long card as well as the power requirements to me.
But I would download the manual for the unit and take a read and see if it mentions any limitations. Also posting on small form factor websites or even contacting Shuttle directly should be on your list of places to check this out as well.
That's pretty much what I thought. I called my friends computer place and talked to some lackey who was like "all systems much match certified speeds, wattages blah blah." My friend called me back and said he did a test close to what I was asking. Only problem was the heat that can build up in that tiny box, but otherwise...
Thanks for being the only person to actually answer my question, FX. :P -
*coughs*
And that's before I cut a hole in the box that will let the 280 sit on the outermost PCI-E slot and let the heatsink sit on the exterior of the box.
Edit: Cant find it now, but a guy fit a 295 into the Shuttle just by doing what I said. Find the pic, its gorgeous. Only a moron would put a high-end card in there and not leave one of the panels open, or otherwise modded. -
"All of this is powered by an uncompromising 500 Watt 80 PLUS BRONZE certified mini ATX PSU,"
-
Can this run a Nvidia 280?"
I have a spare 280 and 8GB of 1066MHZ memory (though, I think one 2GB stick is no good). Going to pair it with a 1TB Seagate 'Cuda and a 2.66 Bloomfield.
Only worried about that blasted 500W PSU. Comp is going to be used in my living room to watch Hulu and online movies with my girlfriend. Can the GPU get enough power to play CoX on a 48 inch Samsung flat screen? (Prolly at 1980x1600 or w/e that exact setting is.) The comp will only be used to play CoX and download movies and let my girlfriend put music on it for company (don't worry, I won't let her actually touch the rig itself :P)
I see many reports that 500W does, indeed, work. Then some that are like "lol no 2 u, fool." Then people tell me to get an ATI 5870... but I don't like ATI and already have the 280.
Opinions?
Edit: Found someone running a Nvidia 295 on it that says it works like a gem. Opinions if you like, but with his pictures and benchmarks all seems well. Now to figure out how to mod the case.... -
Crimson - Michael Madsen, without the long, bad@$$ pauses for smoking
Mark IV - Paul Bettany (the voice of Tony Stark's computer in Iron Man)
Detective Freitag -John Ashton, "Taggert" from Beverly Hills Cop
W.M. Deitrich - Michelle Pfeiffer, but mean. -
Sister Psyche - Milla Jovovich (using her regular Western accent, not Lelu. :P). I've always thought Milla's voice sounded way too old for her.
Borea - Amy Smart. Borea seems way too perky.
Levantera - Amy Smart with a huskier tone (they're twins). -
A have quite a few. When I make a villain....!
Radiant Killer (Fire/Rad) -
The Praetorian twin to my main rad/rad defender, he is a psychotic super-genius who was once the head of a large resistance group. When they were sabotaged from within, his best friend was decapitated by Marauder in front of him. When he attempted to contact Primal Earth for help, he was sent spiraling through an unfinished warp gate. Coupled with an already unstable depression, the reality bending energies of the portal tore his mind away from him. Now he seeks to destroy any and all things that have to do with Marcus Cole, and that includes us. He likes burning things and laughing maliciously while doing it.
Enoch Sisters (DM/Fire, Dark/Cold, Ice/Ice) -
Easily some of the most malicious toons I ever did make. The Enoch sisters (Jessica, Alyssa, and Sandra) are a group of Mu-descendant siblings that wantonly abuse their mystical background. Their bodies are inscribed in head-to-toe tattoos that allow them to make pacts with demons of the worst sort. Oh, they are also bat-**** crazy. Two of them actually believe that devouring people gives them power; the other merely tears their limbs off and watches them die. All three of them appear as beautiful young woman until their powers manifest, turning into aged hags with demon wings. Seriously, they devour people and torture them.
Scrap Arm -
Newly made. Natalya is a gymnast and model from Eastern Europe who walked into the wrong Czech bank at the wrong time. A psychotic criminal shot most of the people and put a gun to Natalya's head. He forced her to torture most of the others, and then used the vault doors to rip off her right arm and left hand. Bleeding to death, she managed to make it to her feet and get her legs around the mans neck. Before he could even scream, she about snapped his head right off. When she awoke, she had temporary prosthesis in place, the kind with the hook/grabber ends. She promptly stabbed the first nurse through the eyes and butchered the entire hospital floor. -

Quote:Numbers are fun
Source
Claws seems to do more damage and DPS than SS for " brutes " by the numbers, also Spin and Footstomp both have a 10 target max.
Um... wow! o.o -
Just a quick sidenote:
Everyone here knows this was an obvious joke, right? XD -
Submitting my bid for a review. Spent a lot of time on this arc.
Arc Name: Demon of Ice and Fire
Arc ID: 254714
Difficulty: With everything turned down, easily soloable by most (sonic/pain MAY have issues). Multiple EB's and two AV's (both of which can be turned down). Some of the minions have inherent synergy that make them challenging but fun.
Ideal For: Solo Level 50, or large teams. Medium sized teams may run into problems with increasing spawn size.
Length: 4 Missions
Description: (from the summary)
After being contacted by a mysterious woman, you are thrust into a dimension-bending battle that spans to the very brink of Time itself. You must rebel against good and evil alike if you are to discover the truth behind the Menders and their deity-like manipulations.
Shorthand: You are chosen by a mysterious, self-proclaimed "god" to destroy the Menders and the source of their power. All is not as it seems, however.
Notes: Many references to in game canon. Consider it my best work. -
Quote:I get that Tyrant started out as this main villain, who was cruel to everyone, screwing his Granddaughter, etc... But he's evolved since then, with the upcoming expansion; Going Rogue.
Why, oh why, is Tyrant still called 'Tyrant'? If you ask me, it seems so out of character. While Emperor Cole may be a dictator and an Emperor, he still casts himself to the public as a pretty alright guy... I mean, he's got his own city.
So why is he called 'Tyrant'? Wouldn't something less-villainous suit him better, considering he's not quite so villainous (to some) now?
Just a thought thrown out there.
I believe Tyrant is what we call him. Even in full regalia, he probably is still called "Emperor" by all his citizens. -
Quote:Eh, I try to avoid all the windows and lights and things.
Current case - nice to work in.
New system is going in either this or this, most likely.
Heh. Yeah, skyscrapers are gettign popular. I still like my Zalman 9500s. though.
That second case looks sleek and sexy. -

He does. Let's recap:
Almost died from mustard gas.
Watched his best friend (and brother-in-law) fight for him and then abandon him.
Watched one of closest friends, Devin Wilcox, get thrown into a hellish series of dimensions (didnt WATCH per say, but you get it)
Watched his wife die.
Watched Stefan become Recluse.
Created 90% of villains, with Stefan.
Watched heroes following him in Russia get incinerated in a nuclear blast.
Saw Devin come back and be like "lol back now **** you, old man."
And he hasnt aged a day and the only person he can relate to is a psychic with a serious obsession with short, red archers. -
Quote:Statesman's hard-line, no breaking the rules attitude always gets him into to trouble, but is also his greatest strength. The primary reason that Tyrant is, in all honesty, so much weaker than States is because he murders his opponents whenever he can.*Yes, we should.
But really, is Statesman all *that* evil? I thought he was just sort of a cranky old jerk.
Statesman is not evil, just ungodly (rather, godly) powerful and has a vision.
*This is just like Superman vs. Ultraman in Infinite Crisis. -

Quote:My tower. :P*nod* Yeah, I already have the system mostly priced out. Components now, depending on if I go AMD or Intel = around $1100-$1200, and that's with splurging on one or two items (I'm picky about cases, and the two I'm looking at - both coolermaster, both apparently wonderful to work in - run about $200 sans power supply.) No SSDs or anything fancy, twin "good old fashioned" HDs - and the prices on some of those components will likely go down by the time I buy them.
*coughs* My airflow cooling system
