Quote:... idiot proof?
I've seen several teams experience wipes because of the anchored debuffs being left on runners, aggroing more spawns than the team could handle.
There's quite a bit a rad or dark player can do that will screw over a team, or simply fail to help a team.
I mean, seriously, can't we just stop?
LEARN. TO. PLAY.
It doesn't matter if you are Rad, FF, Emp, Super Strength, EA.... just L2GDP.

Quote:But the core of this issue is about why people can't get past the roadblock. Is it because they honestly and truly can't? Or is it because they need to prepare more or play differently than they have before?

WHY WON'T YOU LISTEN TO US? ^ THIS x10000000! -
The general "I want to smash things and never look at my health/end bar" build is SS/WP. Or Elec/WP.
Fire/Shield can delivery some honktakulous damage.
Though I disdain the combo, the most damaging, smashtastic Brute is a SS/FA, by all accounts.
If it were me? SS/EA. -
Quote:I don't have a lot of friends, not many who are still with the game, anyway, but very often I can scrounge up at least ONE other person if I feel like doing something more adventurous. Having the ability to do so with TFs would actually be very welcome.
I will play with the boy! Come, I shall raise you with the herd, to be one with the elements!

Errrr, I'd love to team with you, Sam... on Freedom or Virtue. :P -
It's true. Many people need to learn to play. At some point, I needed to learn to play; thus, I did, and still am, for that matter. My first Apex on Test was awful... musta died 50ish times (literally).
Second one? 42 minutes, I didn't die once.
I L'd2P.
Edit: I'm not asking people to have the same learning curve as me... just that they have one. -
Quote:Well, that's total nonsense. Your experience is whatever it is. Dark Miasma being required for any TF is absurd.
Just like saying emp is required for an STF. My coalition makes a point to NEVER run with emps if we can help it, just to prove the point.
.... crap, I'm elitist. -

Quote:Just cuz someone says 'bad player' doesnt mean they mean 'they need to learn to play'
Take for example a person who doesnt take practised brawler on a SR scrapper, and then complains about being mez'ed all the time.
Are they a 'bad player'? or do they need to 'learn to play'?
Now, for a different example, take a person who toggles whirlwind and puts the nearest melee character on auto-follow.
Are they a 'bad player'? or do they need to 'learn to play'?
They need to learn to play. -
Quote:Ah, Dark Miasma. Such a simple and easy thing to fall back on, isn't it?
And for the record, I have failed one ITF that I can recall. We were down to five people, all squishies, and after we wiped on Rommy the first time they were more interested in giving up than rethinking their tactics....which mainly consisted of standing there and dropping dead one by one. I still think we could have done it if people had actually loaded up on insps like the team leader and I did (incidentally, we were the last to die) and tried to muster some semblance of cohesion. Oh, and stay the **** out of melee range of a broadsword AV when you're squishy. I have run them with and without Dark Miasma users, with and without Masterminds, with PuGs and SG and coalition mates, with people IOd to the gills and with people who noticed their SOs had gone red halfway through....and we have always found a way.
*golf clap*
I love this post. -
Quote:Dunno where you are, but I constantly get people asking if anyone needs "XXX recipe I just got;" the other day, someone walked up to me and gave me 5M inf because they liked my costume. I will admit that many people are being market monopolists, and that **** needs to stop. Manipulating the market is greed of the worst kind.
I watched the introduction of loot with a sinking heart - with IOs, came greed. People stopped being heroes, stopped giving away influence, and became merchants. They do this because the game design prompts them to, and rewards them for that attitude.
Quote:Then came the STF and LRSF. With it came more elitism, more pickiness about powersets, etc. Yes, the community has adapted to them. But it's gotten more ugly as a result. L2P is the common attitude, or more nicely and diplomatically, "hey, adapt and get used to it. It's -really- not that hard, you can do this and that, blah blah, etc." The separation has started. Not everyone discriminates against a character only in SOs, but a few have begun to, and people don't shout them down anymore in favor of inclusivity, they just shrug.
Having said that, adapt and play. You can't say people are elitist and then say you don't want to adapt to new things; that's classical elitism. I'd never, ever, ever turn someone away for only having SO's; hell, I'd probably send you a Steadfast KB IO if you were on a squishie. People who don't accept SO'd toons need to... say it with me now... L2P. (To be honest, I'd respect an SO'd only toon better :P )
However, people who refuse to even give the Inventions System a try because it seems soooooo confusing (and, hey, it can be) need to... everyone with me now! L2P
Quote:Teams have lost the united feeling. People are soloing in their IO'ed builds in a team, zooming off in different directions because they can. Hey, watch my soft-capped defence pwn this spawn of 8! WOOT, I got a purple drop (link link link). Count how many incarnate shards I got this mission ("I'm uber because the RNG gave me so many" is the implication.)
Quote:And now Tin Mage and Apex throw in a hardcoded gimmick, FORCING people to turn away anyone not alpha slotted. Even the nicest guy is reduced to "Hey, uhh, we are really really sorry, we feel hopelessly bad about this, but you can't play until you get the alpha slot, cos of the design of the TF." And trust me, not everyone communicates so nicely. It is dev and game design-prompted elitism (if that's too strong a word for you, call it a separation and division of the playerbase into the haves and have-nots, the can-dos and the can't dos).
It is recommended you take part in the Incarnate System. This is not the invention system; the game will be made harder because of it. By the end of the Incarnate branches, regular newspaper mishes will probably be soloable by a Defender on +2/8 settings -

Ideally, what's numerically threatening should reflect what's canonically threatening. The War Works robots I can see, they make sense. We'll just say we're fighting stronger versions in that TF. But Malta? Yes, I know they're supposed to be strong enemies, but brawling me for close to my entire hit points bar with a punch is NOT one of the things they should be doing. Want to make Malta look more threatening post 50? Make all of their minions into Hercules Titans, make their lieutenants into Zeus Titans and come up with something more interesting for a boss. A Victoria-style super-efficient robot assassin, why not? Or, hell, say they learned how to clone Moment and put shapeshifters as their bosses. Or why not honest-to-god heroes they've brainwashed? THAT might convince me that they're a threat big enough to knock my socks off, but guys with guns should NOT be this strong. It's a stretch already, but scaling them up to 54 is just going too far.

GG gets a point for making me laugh. -
I think it also boils down to looks.
When I'm fighting in the Apex/Tin Mage TF's, and seeing WarWalkers drop from the sky and hearing that an ultra-powered super soldier from another dimension has just dropped from low orbit into the middle of Steel Canyon... yeah, I feel like this is something worthy. The WarWalkers (and, hey, the Clockwork, I guess) look like they should be kicking our butt. This army has been preparing for years and years to invade.
What I DON'T like and makes me feel like a chump is Director 11 brawling me for 900 damage. Or using that same stupid purple gun to almost one shot me. What, are you telling me bullet technology has increased ten-fold in Malta? And what about his armor? It's standard, crap armor. It looks weak, and he is powerful merely because someone says he is.
That's my only gripe with the new stuff. The Praetorian Army is relentless and a juggernaught; it should be winning. Malta? Not so much.
To quote someone I can't remember: "He's killing a proto-god in one punch and Malta fears US?!" -
I will admit to being guilty of hubris, sure, but more often then not, Sam, giving advice usually leads to "but I can't do that" or "that is ridiculous." At which point my personality simply devolves into a rabid dog.
Especially with Johnny, who openly wants the game to fail. -
I'll never understand why some people play this game if they are, apparently, five seconds away from a rage-quit.
Johnny: Go play a different game. Actively wanting the entire system to blow up in the Dev's faces? Okay. *golfclap* Seriously, I've never seen anyone on here that maliciously *****es like you.

Castle,
I could repeat what everyone else has said, but, I won't. I merely will give you the most startling compliment that can be imagined in this game.
I love all the work you did for Energy Aura. The colors, the way it shimmers right before I kill someone (or maybe that's just me). Even before Power Customization, I loved the look and feel of the set, especially on my Brutes. I'm sure you don't hear that often.
Adios, Powers Guy. Now, if you'll just report over to this room right here, we can begin your "Unlearning of Glorious CoH Programming for Betterment of Game" goodbye ceremony.

For you, Castle.
Now, where is that "Castle Says" utility... meh, not on Badge-Hunters, anymore.
Castle Says: I'm leavin, and takin' all my sweet ideas to WoW!.... nope, just not funny without the website. -

BS/WP Scrapper: Popped one purple, autoclicked Parry, set to follow, went and had a cigarette.
DM/Shield Scrapper: RNG got nasty. Died once. Killed her quickly the second time.
Elec/Shield Scrapper: pure ownage.
Rad/Rad/Power Defender: Popped four purples, cast debuffs, autoclicked Neutrino Bolt proc machine gun, went and had a cigarette.
Fire/Rad/Power Corrupter: Popped four purples, cast debuffs, autoclicked Blaze. More nicotine.
EM/EA Brute: Popped two purples, she was down in 30 seconds.
DM/WP Brute: Lulz. She died very fast. -
I don't mean to be an ****, here, but...
When I read this thread, I thought it was a joke until page... four? I saw Ultimo's post count and really thought it was a funny gag.
I just blew a mental gasket.
I would help, but I think you may infect me. -
I don't want to to want to see this movie.
But, help me, I do. As long as Paul Walker and Jordana Brewster stay together, I'll be good. Also, calling it right now: end of the movie, Dwayne Johnson ends up part of the crew. He's DEA (it seems) and yet we saw the main group stealing drug money and/or burning it....
Just saaaayin....
