  1. Necessary? Far from it. Awesome in theory and practice? You betcha! I'm a long-time fan of "always there" defense, the kind that toggles and set bonuses give, so my opinion is skewed in that direction. I really wouldn't build for soft-cap if it's going to force you to take powers you really don't like or skip on powers you do, though. Being incredibly sturdy means nothing if you aren't having fun.

Me? I have Stealth / Man. / Weave and Ice Shield, and after playing at the soft cap on a Dom I don't think I would personally be happy with anything else. My endurance took a beating (I run an Ice^3 for reference), but between the +end mod from the Musculature alpha and Dom refilling my end bar, the endurance has become very manageable. Being Elec/ and potentially having Conductive Aura, I think you'd be in even better position, end-wise.
  2. Right! Thanks for adding that Herc. I had shortened it due to size restraints, but I think from now on I'll either add the full name to the image or add a text list in the post itself. While I'm at it, I want to make sure I have the name spelling right: "Void" is "Void Emissary" correct?

If I tell jokes at the one on May 30, will I have a better chance of winning?
It might help. The theme is supposed to coincide with April Fool's Day, so I'm all for some light-hearted jokes. I might even give out a special prize just for that!
  3. Many thanks to those who showed up tonight, and to my co-hosts Hercules and Dark Bladed. Here are the winners of the Golden/Silver Age costume contest:

    1st Place: Golden-Age
    2nd Place: Gabriella of Mercy
    3rd Place: Void Emissary
    Honorable Mention: Lil Shockie

  4. Definitely looking forward to next Tuesday! The RP was fun and I got a level, to boot.

The team was "interrupted" just before they learned exactly what Cleos found out from Archon Assunta. Following up on that could be interesting. I also like the idea of finding some sort of clue to reveal more about the weapons Offworld has, or the Council/his short term goals.

  6. Special Note:
The IDFS has had a schedule/format change! It's now every other Saturday at 9 PM Eastern. You can get the details, schedule, and more in the new thread:
    http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=262908

    ---

    P.E.R.C. Presents: Inter-Dimensional Fashion Show
    Every Wednesday @ 10 P.M. Eastern

    What:
A costume contest with a different theme every week!

    When:
    Judging begins at: 10 P.M. Eastern / 9 P.M. Central / 8 P.M. Mountain / 7 P.M. Pacific
Arriving a few minutes early is encouraged and appreciated! If you're late, we cannot guarantee that you'll be counted during judging.

    Where:
Pocket D, out on the dance floor. The line will be formed just in front of the platforms surrounding the supergroup base portal.

    Who May Participate:
Any character, any level, any alignment. The only requirement is that you show up wearing a costume that falls into that week's theme!

    Prizes:
    3rd Place: 40 million inf.
    2nd Place: 60 million inf.
    1st Place: 100 million inf.

    Additional Info:
    1) Powers and Emotes are allowed (so long as they don't affect others).
Feel free to draw your weapons, toggle up, or strike a pose! The only request here is that you avoid using powers that affect other players' costumes, such as Grant/Group Invisibility, Steamy Mist, Dispersion Bubble, or Ice/Thermal shields. If you would like to display these abilities, please feel free to use them on the event organizer, R-Tech. If you're not sure whether a power you have is allowed, go ahead and ask! Using a power that affects others may exclude you from being judged.

    2) There is a one (1) week waiting period between contest victories.
This means that, if you place 1st, 2nd, or 3rd in a costume contest one week, you won't be eligible to win the next week. You are still welcome to participate and show off your costume, you just won't win a prize. After the waiting period is up you are eligible to win again! This is in place to make sure that everyone has a fair chance to win.

    3) Unless noted, bios will not be taken into account.
I love a well-written bio, but these contests are focused on costumes that suit a weekly theme. If you like the idea of ocassional bio contests though, let me know!
  7. Grats, CP!

I have to agree with Rylas; I'm not sure which is more impressive... The ebil or the sheer number of temp powers on your window.

If I had an extra 2 bil that I didn't have plans for? Oh yeah, the SG registrar would be my new best friend. Another vote for 88ing it!
  8. Someone call the men in white coats. We're going to need a LOT of straightjackets.
  9. Just a quick note: Spiritual is the Alpha that provides a boost to healing, not Musculature. Musc has a boost to End Mod in the Radial tree though. Is that what you had in mind?
  10. Those are crafted base defense items -- Stealth Supression
  11. I'm available any evening besides Wednesday and Sunday at the moment. If you have a preference, just let me know. Otherwise... How does Tuesday/Thursday sound?
  12. Man Infinity, you guys really know how to kick ***! We had dozens of people participate in this event; so many, in fact, at one point we spawned a second instance of Cimerora! I cannot say "thank you" enough to all of the people who turned out for the race and the costume contest and made this event a success. We had lots of people volunteer to anchor and that really helped out, and all of our players were patient, knowledgeable, and/or skilled. You rock. Seriously.

You'll see just how much you rock below. Because of the big turnout and number of people who massacred this TF utterly, we even added a few bonus prizes!

So, here's what you've all been waiting for... Our winners! I'll be posting screenshots of winning costumes and times/death totals soon.

    Best Times
    3rd Place: Team MoHopper - 32:42
2nd Place: Team This TF is dUmb - 29:29
    1st Place: Team Brimstone - 29:10

    Fewest Deaths
    Longest Time w/ 0 Deaths: Team Hot Cakes - 1:30:59 - 0 Deaths
Fastest Time w/ 0 Deaths: Team This TF is dUmb - 29:29 - 0 Deaths

    Bonus Prize for Most Deaths
    Team Francis - 4 Deaths

    Top 3 Costumes
    3rd Place: Pesky Ninja
    2nd Place: Peace Hunter
    1st Place: Angela Gibrilli

Rock on, Infinity! Money has been handed out to our winners. If you weren't present when the prizes were handed out but were on a winning team, make sure to check your in-game e-mail!

And stay tuned: we have more events in store! Including the start of weekly themed costume contests held every Wednesday evening, starting on March 9th!
  13. 10 minutes until the costume contest! We're meeting up in Cimerora along the bridge, near the gate to the castle. Feel free to send me an in-game tell (@R-Tech) if you need directions once in zone.

    Good luck!
  14. We're well under way and have launched a dozen or more teams already, just within the first 30 minutes! There's still plenty of time to enter, so feel free to join us in Cimerora if you want a chance at the prizes!
  15. Re: Unlocking the Wisp aura

    I just did the following:
    - Downloaded, installed, and ran the NCSoft Launcher
    - Ran CoH from the Launcher
    - Logged in with one character and received the "Wisp Aura Unlocked" message
    - Exited CoH completely
    - Ran the old CoH Updater and logged in
    - Logged in with a different character and received the "Wisp Aura Unlocked" message

Based on this, it appears that by running CoH through the NCSoft Launcher once is enough to unlock the aura on all characters, without the need to log them all in at this time. I am allowed to make a new character using the wisp aura using this method too, even after switching back to the old CoH updater.

This leads me to believe the reward works like the VIP Badge and Pocket D teleporter award... IE, it's account based and will be available to any character you log in from this point forward. I'm sure we'll get some official word on the details soon, too.

Oh, and I'm digging the new launcher.
  16. Just two more days until the big event, folks! I wanted to let you all know that you'll be able to pick several event organizers and assistants out of the crowd by looking for the players in referee uniforms.

Hope to see you Saturday evening!

    Soooo /Ice ...

Now I'm tempted to try Elec/Ice. And just when I thought I had my altitis under control...

    Soooo /Ice ...

    Quote:
But in terms of damage, /Icy isn't that good. It is a fast set for sure.
Interestingly enough though, "isn't that good" is still good enough to do things like solo Rikti pylons (assuming you have the survivability, of course). That's not to say that a number of Dom secondaries couldn't do it faster or easier... But sometimes fast is all it takes.
  19. Having any Alpha enhancement slotted is enough to avoid the -4 level debuff, even if it's a Tier 1 (Common). Tier 3 (Rare) and Tier 4 (Very Rare) provide a +1 level shift; handy to have, but certainly not needed for Apex.
  20. I've also had multiple shards drop off of one enemy. It's exceptionally rare, but I've heard of people getting three on one defeat. I'm trying to track down info to substantiate the claim of Mitos dropping shards at a higher rate than average, but there's that possibility too.

And of course there's always a hefty sum of merits for what can be 30 minutes or so of work if you prefer them.

    Soooo /Ice ...

I've played /Fire, /Thorn, /Psi, /Earth, and /Ice and Ice is still my favorite. Fast animation times, several good melee attack options, power boost, and an early, powerful AoE are what really sell the set for me. I do have to agree about Chilling Embrace though; the -recharge is nice and all (especially stacked with the other attacks), but I wish it had the -damage aspect that the Ice Armor version has. I'd spec back into it in a heartbeat if it did, even though I have Arctic Air already.

/Ice does more to compliment a primary than /Fire does, IMO. Thing is, /Fire really brings the damage, especially since its boost power is moar damage!!1!eleven. I'd say Ice is a jack of all trades, master of none. It does a little bit of everything and does it well, but the area it stands out in (added survivability with -recharge and a smidgen of -tohit) isn't as highly valued as the more direct, immediate benefits of some other secondaries.
  22. Sounds awesome so far. Definitely like the sound of some light RP added, like you had mentioned. I'm still leaning towards my Ice/Cold corrupter, but I'm giving it a little time to stew and see what other folks are bringing to the table. Just got my main compy fixed and now my options for what I play are no longer limited by lag concerns.

We have a Mind/Emp Controller and Fire/Fire Dom for sure so far, right? Anyone else confirm that they're up for it, and what they may be bringing?

Evening play times starting around 8-9 central work for me.
  23. There are definitely shards to be had by fighting Hami, not to mention the fun of having the community together for a massive Jell-o fight.

I had been asking around, gauging interest in the revival of Hami raids on Infinity not too long ago. My schedule has been hectic lately, but I'm still really interested in the idea of participating, promoting, or organizing some raids.

So, does this mean there is, in fact, interest?
  24. If we're talking recent (as in within the last few months, up to and including today), I was surprised that I managed to snag...

    Rhyme
    Hunted
    Underdog
    Streakbreaker

Other names I've claimed at one point or another that I was surprised to get (dating back up to a few years, but well after launch):

    Shift
    Wildcard
    Iconoclast
    Boundary
    Feverpitch

Most of those have been on Virtue or Infinity.
