  1. Global name: @R-Tech
Server they mainly play on: Infinity
Level of PvP experience: Low-Moderate (Did some basic zone PvP off and on until shortly after Issue 13)
Access to Ventrilo and/or mic: Yes and yes
Ability to meet at 9pm est on Fridays: Yes
  2. Awesome! I'll be checking out the arc ASAP.
  3. Basically, my question is exactly what the title says. I'm looking to make a new Corruptor, and I'm having trouble deciding between Sonic/Cold and Fire/Cold. I've played and enjoy all three sets (this will be my first time pairing either primary with /Cold, however), so that's not really an issue.

I'll be using this Corruptor on medium-large teams, including a lot of Task/Strike Forces. So, if you were forming a team and all other things being equal, which would you rather have? Should I go for the higher personal damage from Fire, or the increased -res from Sonic?

    Thanks in advance!
  4. Fighting any non-AE enemy that will drop level 50 recipes will give you the chance for a purple recipe. High level TFs are one way (say, an ITF). When hunting for purples I pull up one of my favorite maps (or grab some repeatable missions from the RWZ or scanner), set myself to +0/x8 on one of my 50s and go to town.
  5. This. A million times this. Props to NCSoft and its employees.
  6. Awesome list Steelclaw, as usual. Thanks a ton for this info!
  7. P.E.R.C. held a green-themed costume contest on Infinity last night, so instead of one of my costumes here are some pics of our winners.

  8. I'm going to have to echo the "Ice/Icy thrives in melee" sentiment, just because so very many of the major powers from both sets require you to be there. If you're really set on being at range most of the time though, here's my own advice...

Arctic Air is PBAoE, and if you're not in melee often, you wont have a need for it. For a ranged play style, either take this late or skip it altogether (*cringes at the thought*). This will make your endurance usage much more manageable. Instead, consider taking Shiver. It has a nice -recharge debuff and is perfect when used at max range.

You're still going to have a decent attack chain available to you between Block of Ice and the Icy blasts. It's not as much damage as you could do, but it's still viable.

Between Hoarfrost and Hibernate I prefer the former, but either one will certainly work. I wanted both, but had to skip one of the Ice epic powers and Hibernate was the one I dropped. Just remember that, even with obscene levels of recharge, Hibernate will have a forced downtime after it wears off due to the -phase status it applies. You generally wont have to worry about that though.

My personal preference on defense is to have it as close to 45% as possible without Power Boost running. If you can get it to the 35% range that will allow you to cap whenever you use 1 small Luck inspiration, and that's a great place to be defense-wise. If you have to choose between permadom and more defense, err on the side of permadom.

Good luck with your Ice Cubed!

Edit: Just a note about Hibernate, since you mentioned you'd be hovering a lot. You can toggle the power on in the air, but it will drop you from the sky.
  9. Yeah, if I had to pick between Permadom and soft cap S/L defense I'd go Permadom in a heartbeat. Even on my Ice^3, truth be told. The end refill and mez protection alone makes it worth it to me.

The original question didn't state that it was an either/or proposition; just that the OP was worried about the end cost of the toggles (or taking other powers they like) vs. the benefits of soft cap defense. So, I assumed they already planned for permadom. If you have to sacrifice one for the other (or aren't willing/able to throw down the inf for both), then yes, Permadom all the way.
  10. I had a great time, and I'm really looking forward to next Tuesday. The AE missions Ray set up were a nice change of pace and served as a really good gateway to RP. Also, a big welcome to Agent Wolfram!

Do I still get points if I cheated to figure out the reference on the Archons? Nice easter egg there, Ray.

Oh! Here's one of the screenshots I got that night. (You can click it for a larger few.)

  11. Tonight's winner's of the Super Green contest are:

1st Place: Just A Passing Frad
    2nd Place: Riggs Wild
    3rd Place: Wirbelstrum
    Honorable Mention: Turbospeed

  12. Tonight's theme is: Super Green (Best use of the color green)

We'll be starting in Pocket D in about 20 minutes!
  13. Bought. Many thanks to ZG.
  14. I'm looking for a Gladiator's Armor +Def proc; my bid is 2.5 bil. Any level will work. Reply here, send me a PM, or contact me in-game at @R-Tech if you have one you'd like to sell for that price.

    Thanks!
  15. Definitely an improvement over the original build. My thoughts on the matter:

    - I feel that you have overslotted Physical Perfection and Superior Conditioning. Without the full set of Perf. Shifters you're at the AoE defense soft-cap, so the set bonus sort of goes to waste.

    - True Grit adds nicely to your total HP, and thus regen rate. Adding some heal enhancements would be worth it, IMO.

    - Is there a specific reason why you skipped Greater Fire Sword? I.E., not a fan of its animation? It's part of Fire's best single target DPS attack chain and is a good attack all on its own.

Here's an example of what I'd do with the slotting. I avoided purples and PvP IOs, and kept most of the powers you had in your build. I did swap One with the Shield for GFS, but that can be changed to suit your taste obviously. You could also consider picking up Grant Cover; it wont add to your defense, but it's nice combined with Maneuvers for your team, and is one of your sources of Defense Debuff resistance. Not a requirement by any means, but it does come in handy if you plan on running a lot of ITFs.

A note on the Enzyme in Active Defense: That was chosen to boost the power's inherent Defense Debuff protection. It's much more expensive, but the protection is nice for the same reasons Grant Cover is.

  16. Welcome to the world of base editing, Zep!

    Quote:
What is the differences between the two types of plots? Other then cost that is.
Secure base plots cost more, but allow you to use multiple power and control generators. I believe they also allow your base to hold more Items of Power, but that feature isn't currently implemented and thus has no real bearing on anyone at this time.

    Quote:
If I wanted to do a park like area with a few buildings in it could I? Could I just make it one giant room? Put grass and trees all over the place and some of the required equipment in the middle?
You absolutely can do this, but you have to be clever about it. Rooms in a base are forced to have at least one doorway between them, but by using items and wall/floor textures you can give the impression of smaller buildings in an outdoor area. I've done this myself a number of times, and there are some incredible examples of it floating around this very section of the forum.

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask! Have fun in the editor.
  17. Assuming you have all the personal +Def powers from your secondary, Weave, and Combat Jumping/Hover with 3 SOs worth of defense slotted into each, you're looking at 30%~. That leaves you with 15% more until you hit the soft-cap of 45%. Maneuvers adds another 3.5%. The Steadfast proc is another 3%. That leaves you with 9% defense needed to hit soft-cap.

A Gaussian's set in Build Up will net you another 2.5% defense to all positions.

So, that leaves you with roughly 6% to go on all positions. Two full set of Mako's Bite in melee attacks will cap you on Ranged. Two full Obliterations or Touch of Death sets will cap you to Melee. Two sets of 5 Aegis or full sets of Performance Shifter will cap you to AoE defense. Since the defense in shield is positional, I'd recommend going for positional set bonuses, as opposed to typed. The typed bonuses wont give you as much bang for your buck, typically.

Here's a fast example build for Fire/Shield that will put you at the soft-cap. This example shows what slotting the above recommended sets will get you. There are lots of slots left over (21) that could be put wherever you want, and the epic powers can be swapped out without affecting the build at all.

    Hope this helps.

  18. R-Tech

    Super Team

I think I'm booked up since I'm part of a different static team, but this sounds like an awesome idea! If you want, I can help spread the word that you're forming this super team and direct people back to you. Would that be okay?

I think some of the folks from the global chat channels would also be interested in this.
  19. My thoughts and heart are with all of those affected by this tragedy. With as devastating as this event is, it does make me feel good to see that we do, in fact, have a global community. Best wishes to all.

  20. Titan Sentinel has an option to automatically export your build from in-game to a Mid's data chunk. So, with one click you can copy/paste your build to Mid's. You can get it from the Titan Network, which is now connected to Mid's, City Info Terminal, Paragon Wiki, and others.
  21. I don't recall (I'm still semi new around here), but welcome back.
  22. I also skipped Jack Frost on my Dom. Truth be told, he doesn't add enough to my capabilities, factoring in the way I play, to be worthwhile. Most of the time I get myself into situations where he's pummeled to death within seconds.

I play my Dom like a Tanker: I go in, draw their attention, lock down what I can, and help destroy anything in my way. I don't see where Ice Control gets a bad rep for being light on control - It effectively gets a pulsing toggle version of Seeds of Confusion that doesn't require an accuracy check, an AoE hold with a large radius (30 ft), and a power that comes at level 12 that will almost completely neutralize minions, Lts, and even bosses with no accuracy check and it can be fired off from around corners. This isn't even factoring in all the -recharge from the powers stacking up, again two of which don't require an accuracy check.

Ice Control is like Electric Control in that it "feels" different when it comes to play style. It's certainly not a set for everyone, but in the right hands it is devastatingly effective.
  23. On the Ice side of things, I'd list the following as "must haves":

    Block of Ice
Shiver OR Arctic Air (You really don't need both. Between them I recommend Arctic Air.)
    Ice Slick
    Glacier

Everything else is to taste. You'll probably want one of the immos. Just be careful; using them will negate Ice Slick, but they still come in handy. Arctic Air is a great place for a Coercive Persuasion purple set and provides a surprising amount of mitigation if you don't mind getting into melee. Ice Slick is really an Ice Control staple and an amazing soft control power. Glacier is on a long recharge timer, but with Domination it is a beautiful power.
  24. Loving it. I'm always happy to see custom AE missions in a play session.
