  1. I think if Pixar had a motto it would be...

    First do no wrong.
  2. I like the fact that all the heroes and villains were wearing all the classic silly costumes! Whether the situation called for it or not. Some of them were way, way over the top and would only work in a comic, yet they pulled it off. There was so much, and so many old faces, action, etc, it was just a banquet of superhero goodness. At first I thought they might have taken too big a bite, but then I thought they handled all the characters and stories nicely.

    I'm looking forward to more.

As for the animation, design, and stuff. Its par Marvel. I don't expect a lot from their animation, so I'll let it pass.

It already started. Whether you like it or not, No Ordinary Family would never have made it to ABC if Disney didn't acquire Marvel. At least that's my thought on that.

  5. Good, keep it under one roof. Although It will be weird at first to see the magic castle logo before a superhero film. With Pixar they have shown that they can allow for an independent production to fly with their flag, so hopefully the new Marvel films wont get disney-fide, and will stick to their current ratings.

    I'm sure they will.

I figure it'd be cooler to see this kind of prequel film than some kind of "Son of Indy" spinoff.
This! This would be so cool! Idea's are already spinning in my head.
  7. Also, Mutt doesn't have the education. He may be smart, (didn't see much evidence of that in the film) but I don't think he'd have the chops to know things like exactly what page to find a picture of the arc in an unabridged copy of the bible, or how to speak fluent Hindi, or how to interpret old-English clues from the coffin lid of a knight.

He's just not as interesting a character, nor does he have as interesting a skill set. Motorcycle riding and fencing does not an Indy Jones make.

I don't care how much "teaching" his father and mother gave him after crystal skull. He'll never have the world experience and education that Indy had.
  8. I would watch a new Indiana Jones movie, if it was a reboot, with a new cast, and a new Director Producer team doing it.

Yeah, good point. This will be a challenge.

I prefer the realism of knowing that morality is NOT my natural state, taking comfort in knowing I was raised that way, and seeing my own lapses of morality as opportunities to better myself.

    This... so this.

What makes humanity great, is we are capable of chosing morality. We chose to act this way, because we can, not because we have to. Only a few animals express this ability to chose right from wrong. We have developed it to such a high degree that we take it for granted, as a givin. But it isn't.

And that, is what makes Humanity amazing.

Like the Doctor, sometimes I just want to give humanity a big hug.

  14. As many other threads have pointed out, lots of trouble has followed this film since its first announcement. Lets hope it sheds its bad luck before filming.

Article here: The Hobbit has Officially Greenlit, From Comingsoon.net

...and Peter Jackson is officially directing. I get the feeling he's burnt out on the subject, also lots of people didn't like Peter's take on Lord of the Rings. Personally I can't see anyone else doing this project.

Here's me with my fingers crossed.
  15. From the West Wing, but I changed it for Superpowers

Leo McGarry: Oh, well then you're just as stupid as these guys who think that capital punishment is going to be a deterrent for drug kingpins. As if drug kingpins didn't live their day-to-day lives under the possibility of execution. And their executions are a lot less dainty than ours, and tend to take place without the bother and expense of due process. So, my friend, if you want to start using Super-human strength as the arm of the Lord, you can do that. You're the only superpower left. You can conquer the world, like Charlemagne. But you'd better be prepared to kill everyone. And you had better start with me because I will raise up an army against you and *I* will beat you.
    Nuff said.

  19. Perhaps being a Superman class villain wouldn't be the end all bad thing we are making it out to be. After all, if you can become the thing that Humanity hates, then Humanity will have to join together to defeat you! Perhaps your villainy will spark a golden age of peace in the world.
  20. This thread is slowly losing interest for me. Arguments about drug problems, big hulking issues of morality, justice. Ambiguous concepts of good and evil mashed with half ideas and armature in-site. Remember Superman IV, where the boy in blue tackles Disarmament? The topic was beyond his reach, and made for a boring movie. There was a comic that was for famine relief where Superman again tried to solve the world food distribution network, and it wound up being preachy and boring.

That's whats happening here, the topic is going beyond our reach, and the stories we would tell are boring.

  23. This is a really interesting thread, and I have to delve into it more in a little while when I have time, however, I would hope that not all would become evil. I hope I wouldn't.

I think of some of these oaths, or codes...

    "First, do no harm."

"With great power, comes great responsibility."

"I do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States."

These are just three, there are many more...

First as a doctor, having (Super to the rest of us) knowledge that can heal as well as harm. Knowing that their actions can bankrupt a patient, cripple a patient, or cause the patent more harm through arrogance or miss diagnosis, and in some ways the cure could be worse than the sickness. The Hippocratic Oath has helped many a doctor make a choice that, without it, would find themselves perform evil actions without realizing it.

I always loved "With Great power comes great responsibility!" One of the best things to come from the Marvel Universe. This is a direct response from Absolute power corrupts absolutely. Its a reminder that with this power, one must restrain and consider before action. Peter made that mistake at first, he started as a villain, and all that got him was Uncle Ben's death. In Real life Average people find themselves in power over other people all the time, as a Boss to an Employee, as a Teacher over an impressionable Student, as a Cop over an alleged criminal, these people have power over others and they must act responsibility.

And Finally the Oath of Office. Who in the world has more direct power over the world than The President of the United States. But he must act in accordance to a code of law that the American People created, and his power is checked and balanced by two other governmental offices. Without this oath, Washington could have renamed himself George Washington the First King of America, (Some people expected him and even wanted him to do that.) But the Oath, and the creation of checks and balances has kept the Executive office a relatively benign force of good. (You can argue otherwise, but lets keep this civil)

Anyhoo, what I am saying is that Super Powers are a cultural Metaphor for what is happening today. In in today's world there are people with powers over others, and there is corruption that goes along with it, but not everyone is corrupted. There are good politicians trying to do good for their community, there are good doctors trying to heal rather than cause harm, and there are good people, helping others, every day, in small ways when they could take advantage.

So, I think if you add super powers to the mix, hopefully there will be some, some few, who will resist the urge to carve their faces into Mount Rushmore, and will take responsibility over them selves and their abilities.

As you can see, I'm an optimist.
  24. My wife, who is just getting into superheroes, bless her, said that she finds the show unoriginal and a TV Rehash of Fantastic Four, especially since the guy playing the father is playing the same character as The Thing.

I agreed, kind of, but then I told her, I like the show because its like having the Fantastic Four on for an hour every week. Which is fine by me.

Yeah I had problems with, as mentioned, the robbers holding on to the ring from a robbery a week ago.

Also had a problem with, as mentioned, the mother not super speeding the guns out of the robbers hands.

I think her choosing to do nothing was fairly reasonable under the circumstances.
Yeah, that's what I figured after some thought, but still felt gyped for some reason. Would have been nice if she said something like, I got high heals on, or I'd never make it around all those tables, however then they show her having no problem swiping a key card, or trading glass test tubes at speed. Sometimes she has great control of her powers, other times, her attention just isn't up to it.

Would have really liked a moment during the break in where she makes a wrong turn and has to keep running around the halls a few times till she makes it because she can't stop running.

Also had problem with a guy falling nine stories on to the hood of a cop car, and living. When the father first pulled the guys leg, I heard Syndrome in my head say, "Wow that's a little dark for you." but when the guy gave a goofy face after he landed I flashed back to the A-Team and groaned.
