Shh don't tell anyone :P (definitely one of the most fun Defender combos I've tried; in pvp watch out for high defence, obviously kinetics is nothing if it all misses. And always use Siphon Speed as soon as it's ready) Have fun
-
/signed, it's not exactly as if they're expensive but for new players wanting to test their arcs, Inspirations might be needed a lot more than they can afford it.
-
It's weird, half the fun is creating classy costumes with auras, capes the works. But then actually putting a story together with too much of this becomes unplayable due to lag, it's kinda like Wentworths full of stormies or something. Clawing your way out of Atlas MA is bad enough on Defiant....so glad I don't play on Union! And yes, I'm also bored of the MA, especially endless testing of random arcs when almost no changes seem to have been made...just publish already!

For PvE: Sonic works nicely with Kinetics because the -resistance raises damage higher than the damage cap, which can be reached with Fulcrum Shift. Also Siphon Speed will help you stack Stuns and Sleeps much more easily. The only power in /sonic that doesn't always work for teaming is Shockwave, which is knockBACK not knockDOWN, as it says in its description. The nuke is also good, providing a nice stun and with transferance it's less of an issue to get back to Defending.
For PvP: Shout is your winner, as the longer activation time means the damage can reach into 600 after a few self-buffs. Screech is also pretty good as the debuff lasts a little longer. Shockwave might be useful for PvP (I use Repel instead) to keep melee types on their back, but requires practice so you can still heal from them. Besides that, Transferance is handy for the big endurance sap, and Don't be too shy to use Fulcrum Shift on just the one target, it's still a +50% damage buff even if you're nowhere near them. -
Ah yeah I guess Aim would be required for AV duels. If I could have more than one power on auto I'd take it, short-term memory loss as a result of playing Kinetics too long...

Am likely to take the +tohit power for using Howling Twilight on AVs, hate when that misses on my MMs, so will try and make it not happen on my defender
[/ QUOTE ]
iIsn't Howling auto-hit in PvE? I've always thought it was. Aim is nice before Fearsome Stare & Howl followed by your single target chain. Also very handy vs what will be your (ahem) Nemises's. Vengence is very annoying and Aim lets you hit through it. With no -Defense debuffs Aim comes in dead handy.
Rooting isn't a huge issue for a Dark/Sonic, most things are quivering in fear anyway or are getting debuffed by Darkest Night and/or Fluffy.
[/ QUOTE ]
Damnit you're right, I guess on a Dark aim isn't as nice as it is on a Rad cause you can autohit that -regen. Still before Fearsome it should be good
[/ QUOTE ]
On a rad? Surely all that -defence is just a fancy way of doing what Aim does anyway? -
True, with Kinetics you gotta be dancing about or you go squish. Anyways have fun with Sonic Attack ;-D
-
I don't see why it wouldn't. I tend to use Kin buffs first, then Shriek/Scream/maybe Howl before unleashing Shout. The debuffs and my own damage buffs means the longer time Shout takes is worth it. If you use Shout and then immediately Twilight Grasp, or vice versa, you may find yourself rooted for quite awhile, so I'd leave gaps in between just for your own safety.
Also the main reason Shout is so hefty is the higher damage it does in PvP, due to it taking longer to animate. It's not impossible for me to hit 300 smashing + 300 energy. Not bad for a Defender -
Aye it will help against AVs for sure. In that case, you could get by with Shriek/Scream/Shout as your attack chain, Howl as a team-friendly debuff, and Amplify for the AV situations
(Edit for getting confused with the names of the blasts again...) -
Telekinesis is very handy if you're /kinetics, as you can ferry around a minion for health/endurance/speed/damage (solo, or on teams). It takes practice but it's pretty predictable once you get the swing of it.
Besides all of the other reasons mentioned, you can also use TK on something that resists it (say, an AV) and any minions/lts/bosses won't be able to get very close to the AV without being repelled, but the AV itself will stay put. Useful I guess if you want to keep an area safe, just watch out for the AV :P -

I wouldn't sniff at an extra 50% global recharge, even with Hasten...
I'm always happy to see another Kin on the team and there's always a slight chance they'll speed boost me too ;-D
[/ QUOTE ]
Re-reading that it does look like I was being down on Kin/ but I wasn't as I did love them, they just didn't make me squee like Cold/, I would still rather have one than quite a few other AT's/sets.
I just always missed out on the glory of Fulcrum Shift
[/ QUOTE ]
I was being "down" at them, but only because of particle effect / high speed / slow laptop issues. They outweigh the +recharge for me (also the main reason I stopped playing my Kin/Elec as well).
[/ QUOTE ]
Agreed, there are some situations where even Siphon Speed is bad enough, so I wouldn't inflict SB on my poor teammatesSpeed aside though, the +damage of kinetics can speed a team up without, ya know, literally speeding them up.
-
In case you missed the i14 patch notes, Wentworths no longer eats up your stuff if left there, indefinitely.

I'll also squee for Cold defenders.

What a great term for a Warshade expressing happiness! And its exactly how I feel on mine
As for the kin: pre-i13 I wasn't a great fan as I was never in Fulcrum Shift range and SB doesn't make much difference once you have perma-hasten

There is also the fact I will probably only have 4 or 5 powers from which ever blast set because of Dark being so good and it being a team based defender.
I realise that I cant reach the amount of control I have with my Necro/Dark MM so I think I might go with Sonic to give me extra debuff to compensate
[/ QUOTE ]
Another thing I've just thought of...
Shriek/Scream/Shout/Howl/Dreadful Wail (or) Screech is all you really *need* from Sonic Attack to be effective. The nuke is always personal choice, as is Aim/Amplify but you can easily skip the sleep and knockback and not miss them. -
Sonic will help push up your own damage too don't forget. Howl & Tar Patch = -50% damage resistance
Of course everyone's already mentioned the sleep, though you may not need it with all of Dark's control. I would still go dark/sonic though, the -resistance debuff is so tempting in the hands of a Defender. -
Yup, also the "Wedding Tux" tails are still randomly disappearing...
-
I'd pick Circle of Thorns, just for a peaceful life untroubled by most heroes :-D
-
Yeah, but it's funny that when they look at the screen again everything's dead O;-)
-
/Signed, this weird "feature" makes teleporting much harder...
-
Ah well good luck to you, I'm a Defiant gal. Also getting very bored of waiting for i14!! :P
-
Sounds fun, I must resist the urge to make yet another /sonic Defender :P hope to see your toon sometime, is it on Defiant?
-
Ah, yeah that would be a shame..
Ah well, just be happy you have Sleet...I went Kinetics, so the proc in Howl is basically my lifeline if I exemp :P
-
I would suggest replacing the Posi blast damage/endurance with the proc, if you wanted to try it. Howl doesn't do great damage no matter how you slot it, I think of it more as a spammable cone debuff.
But yes, Sleet does it better I guess. It's always nice when the proc fires when you REALLY need it though! -
Well you won't be able to log in just yet, they're still testing "internally."
Other than that, have you turned Caps Lock off/on? Make sure you don't leave spaces either.
