Quote:No mention of Siphon Power? That's an easy 50 - 75% damage buff there, before factoring in sonic's -res. Also FS does last 45 seconds, and an initial AV fight usually does have minions to feed from...Kinetics does not work optimally in most AV fights, because there is only one target to get a Fulcrum Shift to hit. Double-stacked, you will be at 150% damage bonus from FS. Add that to your enhanced powers and you're doing (200% after enhancements + 150% FS damage bonus) 350% damage. That isn't bad, but it is good to be aware of the weakness of your chosen power set.
I went with Cold Domination / Sonic for my debuffer. Cold Domination's Benumb is the best debuff in the game. It reduces the effectiveness of literally every power they activate. Heals do less; control powers have lower magnitudes (Ghost Widow's hold can be shrugged off by Tankers); AVs do less damage; god-mode powers have almost no noticeable effect. That's right, Reichsman's Unstoppable won't stop him from dying. On top of all of that, Cold Domination has two resistance debuffs, the best endurance recovery buff in the game, and defense buffs for the team. Sleet is just amazing; it debuffs resistance and defense in an AoE, and acts like a control power as it causes knockdown to everything in the area. Paired with /Sonic, I debuff AVs for (200% enhanced attacks X 2 or 2.5) 100%-150% -resistance. That makes my enhanced attack powers do 400%-500% damage. Add a Kinetic to the team after that and AVs drop like bosses.
Don't get me wrong though I am jealous of Cold's powers. -
Definitely not an expert with dark miasma but I do know fearsome stare will serve you much better if slotted with to hit debuff. The fear should last long enough considering you have a high damage primary.
-
Though ranged defence would definitely help, you will be in melee range every battle anyway, and drawing aggro with FS. You could do it all at range but then your melee teammates would miss that 50% guaranteed buff from you...and siren's song is usually more than enough to halt a ranged alpha. The Armageddon proc really is amazing in Shriek, as you will be spamming it for the short duration -res anyway.

Levelling up my main on double XP 09 without having the faintest idea about kinetics (before power customisation, the rings matched sonic stack!) and not needing a single enhancement before 50 as I was constantly teaming. Was a mad weekend.
Ooh and when I first found out how to change the colour of the UI. That's one of my fave parts of this game. -
The main reason I would always choose soul drain over thunderstrike is because of what happens during animation. TS: slow period of not being able to do anything, SD: bizarre buggy period where enemies appear to not do anything for a split second, and then there's the shorter activation time for yourself. If you're dead set on that proc then soul drain seems to be more usable. You should have decent global recharge to have it up every 30 secs or so?
-
Ah okay. Well in that case your original dark mastery will, IMO, be more useful as soul drain will hit more with that proc. Yes the +damage is mostly overkill, but the +Tohit is useful and oppressive gloom is a reasonable power for /sonic. Thunder strike is also slower to activate and the aoe radius is very small.
-
Just to add, Transfusion also nibbles a little end from foes, so spamming
it on a boss once you've sapped him will keep him empty -
Looks like a fun build, I would reconsider electricity mastery though. Power sink is not needed and inferior to transference, thunder strike can be annoying if it kbs just a little too much; charged armour is good but let me just mention power mastery instead. Powerbuild up or conserve power (no slots), total focus (higher damage than thunder strike and no kb, with a stun to stack on bosses with screech) and force of nature that, with defender values, can cap all resistances but psi and Kin can easily manage the crash. Just my two cents. Kin/sonic is my favourite combo anyway so you can't really go wrong..!
-
If you want pure green numbers then an empathy defender has the most of those. Dark miasma and kinetics also have great heals, and though they take more skill to use, with these sets there is less actual need to heal.
-
I do not have Tactics and rarely PvP, I can't post my build atm as I'm on my phone. I have around 50% global accuracy and plenty of accuracy slotting, I only seem to use yellows against spiders and their blinding.

I've just unlocked the third spiritual tier (parial core revamp I believe) on my Kin/Sonic/Power, and the extra recharge has me wondering if I could get away with swapping the single rechage Io I currently have in Power Build-Up? I'm thinking of replacing it with the +perception from Rectified Reticle set and leave it at that. My question is, is the +perception going to be a noticeable improvement compared to about 6 seconds less recharge? Also I'm guessing the +perception is a constant and not only happening after I click power build-up? I barely use the power really, taken as a pre-req for Total Focus/Force of Nature.
Thanks -
Quote:My first Defender was sonic/sonic, rerolled into kinetics/sonic within a day of playing. I guess it depends what you intend on doing solo, but sonic makes kinetics much more soloable, and kinetics makes sonic much quicker to solo. Win/win. As others have said rad/sonic is a great combination too, but I find it tedious and unpredictable keeping the toggles up/in the right place, and it's fun to abuse nukes with transferenceTry Sonic/Sonic
Sonic Resonance is one of the funnest sets to play, due to its passive support giving you more time to blast.
Sonic Blast is arguably the most efficient blast set available to defenders, but some are put off by its animations and sounds. It fits thematically with Sonic Resonance however.
Cold/Ice and Ice/Cold is also very nice. Cold requires a fair bit of active debuffing(Sleet in particular), but it's not that bad compared with Rad Emission in that regard. Ice Blast is very solo friendly, and you have the benefit of Ice Storm and Blizzard having blaster values, with Corr Scourge working well with them as well. Also, once you Blizzard you can use Heat Loss to recover.
If you find kinetics too hyperactive *twitch*, cold/sonic would be great too. I'm guessing you've noticed the trend for /sonic attacks... -
Viable maybe but not optimal. Energy blast IMO doesn't mesh well with kinetics. Besides the kb interfering with 3 of your most powerful kin abilities, this kb isn't reliable enough to plan around. You'd be better with sonic, ice, dark or perhaps rad for solo.
-
If you do go with Psychic Mastery, take Mass Hypnosis. That will go a long way to solving your problems with melee alphas, as fulcrum and the other kinetics powers won't break it (barring Repel). Not the best for teams but it does help.
-
Looks a solid build, however with kinetics you are unlikely to really need Stamina. I've never taken it (though I made my kin on double XP weekend, so the lower levels shot past), and have never needed it, even flashbacking. With good slotting, you can get 100 endurance from Transference at least every 15 seconds and I can't honestly see you using/needing more than that. Even if you decide it's necessary, I would work Hasten in much earlier - stacked with Siphon Speed from level 8+ it's a huge boost for flashbacking/early levelling. Speed Boost is also taken late and that's a shame, being a huge bonus for Defenders over kin Trollers as they get it so much earlier. One more thing - ID, taken at lvl 49, is unlikely to be of as much use at that level. Ofc it's always handy but it will be far more useful to teammates of low levels. You also don't have a huge global +acc bonus, and so Touch of the Nictus may prove more useful than Doctored Wounds, in Transfusion. I can't remember the boosts of the DW set, but if they're not too pivotal I would really think about swapping it out for TotN.

I myself use Power Mastery with kin/sonic, and Psi Mastery with rad/rad. Power is great fun with Force of Nature, as kinetics can overcome the crash. With radiation, having all your toggles drop could be disastrous so I'd recommend against that. I have World of Confusion with my rad/rad Defender and have filled it with procs. The confuse is rare/low, but with the procs and Choking Cloud's procs going off it's pretty vicious, and lots of fun! Dominate is also a great hold, but don't dismiss the mass sleep...it allows you to lay your debuffs without much of an alpha. Based on your 3 options, I would gun for Psi Mastery.
-
Desperately need alternatives to the skulls in Dark Blast/Dark Miasma, I love both sets but cringe every time my 'hero' flings a skull...though I guess the sets are kinda 'evil' in themselves, the skulls are definitely too cheesey-evil for me. Talking specifically about Gloom and Fearsome Stare here.
-
Just a further point: Oppressive Gloom's endurance cost is pretty negligible, it often stays toggled after nuking if I use a blue quickly enough. So don't see it as "another toggle" in an already end-heavy build, and it can be far more mitigating than something like Maneuvers, depending on your build.
-
I would agree, also throwing in an occasional Screech for the -res, as its animation is also quick at 1.5s.
-
A kin's work is never done
My main goal is to finish off my second build, it's the only thing (not including the extreme badges) I ain't got around to yet.. -
Thanks for the pics, was a fun night!

I've tried using the new Auction House interface on several toons, and I can add/drop items into it but it refuses to let me buy or sell, or withdraw anything. The "get" and "post" icons don't illuminate. So confused..! Help?!
-
-
Restoring 100% of a teammate's endurance after they nuke (with Transference), without asking them to reposition makes me giddy inside

Stuck at work but finish at the same time the servers go back online apparently..! Can't wait for this!
