I'm definitely in favor of the OP and also the "Incarnate Mode" challenge upgrade, but I wanted to highlight this part and say this is an important thing to have. For team sizes less that the "standard minimum" there should be an extra dialog window that comes up and says something like "You really should bring more heroes/villains with you... at least X of them." and then an option to click "That's ok, we can handle it!" or "You're right, I'll come back when I have X heroes/villains on my team."

That way you make extra sure no one has a legitimate complaint when they get to the last mission of the STF or LRSF and find out they can't complete it.
  2. I just gave 2 bil to a friend to help outfit some of his toons so I didn't burn anything this past weekend, but I should have another bil to burn Saturday or Sunday.

  5. I've been out of town for work this week and have only logged on a few times with a spare laptop, and as a result I haven't done much earning. I dropped 120m into the fire this morning and I've got some things cooking so hopefuly I can drop a more meaningful amount in after the weekend.

    Looks like we're #58 now.

You also can't resell it or trade it for something else so you're stuck with it.

I think the altitis solves most of the "have enough shards for new powers on day 1" issue.

If someone stockpiles enough shards for the new powers day one I doubt they will stockpile them in copious amounts across all their eligible toons. And if so, they earned it by playing the content, they might as well be able to use it for something useful to them.
You were encouraged to do that content to get Shards to make your Alpha. Any extra you got beyond that, you have some options. You can make more Alphas so that you can switch between them on the fly, as appropriate to the situation. Or you can convert those Shards to threads. If you chose the latter, you have to chose between converting them slowly and getting a 1-1 return, or do them all right away and get (about) a 1-2 return.

If I could still earn Threads and such doing the ITF or STF it'd be one thing, but now if I want one of the four new slots, I'm going to be running Lambda and BAF over and over. Not to mention the fact that if they do it again for the next round, Lambda and BAF will be useless and we'll be on two new trials that we are quite literally farming for these rewards. Let the new Salvage but available as rewards for old content, as well as threads dropping like shards do, but as it is now, the "end game system" is just becoming very segmented...

The moving shards into threads isn't horrible, but considering how much shards do vs how little threads do, it seems like a downgrade, not to mention the fact that for some reason I don't personally understand, breaking down incarnate salvage results in much less shards than it takes to craft it. Why on earth should I only get 1 shard from a nictus essence that took 4 shards to craft, does it matter if they can be broken down back into 4 shards? I mean it's not like I can sell the shards off, it'll just be turned into another component...
I think that there will be more content for earning Threads directly but only time will tell. Right now, I agree, two trials as the only way is a bit too limited.

For converting Shards to Threads, I think threads do more than shards and that the amount of time and defeats it takes to earn the 10 shards to convert 1-1, I think the conversion is fine as it is. I agree the components-to-shards rate is too low, should probably be at least 2 shards if not 3 back. I also think there should be a way to go backwards from threads to shards.

@Wendy, I didn't miss the point, I do get the complaint. I don't even really disagree, it is annoying to have all this different stuff. All I was trying to say is that, like it or not, that's probably the way it's going to be and this is the reason.

I've gone into a couple of PUG Lambdas expecting to do just that and then been pleasantly surprised to make it all the way to fighting Marauder (and in one case, damn near defeating him).

I find it easiest to designate one person to get all the acids and one to get all the grenades. Make sure everyone knows who to give their temps to, and when you're in the bunker about to head out to face Marauder, have them all give their temps to the designated people. Then one person can go seal the doors while everyone else deals with Marauder and his buddies.

Probably would work well with two people on acids sealing doors - a little faster - but I think it's less confusing to stick to one person and haven't had any trouble as long as that one person know what they are doing and does it fast. I always volunteer for acid duty on Lambda because I've done it so many times and can do it pretty quick now.

We had seven last night (one person quit after dying in the first spawn) and we would have succeeded if we'd had 5 more seconds. Marauder's health bar was so low it looked empty. And this was with a PUG, not a seasoned group that plays together all the time.
  13. I had a Dark/Elec brute on my second account that cost me a small fortune, but was pretty close to indestructible. I know Deathsurge does mostly energy damage, so tanking him on an /elec brute might not sound so impressive. But I didn't tank just one. I tanked six of them at once without taking much of a scratch (this was during last year's anniversary bash when Ocho was spawning them like mad in Cap on Infinity).

That account is inactive, so I'm currently leveling up the praetorian version of that character, a dark/elec scrapper. I look forward to getting her to 50 and finishing her build to see how she compares. On paper, she looks like should be even better.

And then there's my main, a Fire/Rad corruptor named Cherry Bombshell. She just kills things so fast. And my Ice/Psi/Ice permadom. Also a powerhouse.

    So I think what I'm saying is, I can't pick a favorite.

Your comment about the inf costs on conversions does support that a little bit, I'll concede that. But I don't think that just having the new salvage for crafting new powers is doing that. I think that's aimed at preventing the average player from having it all on day one, not the outliers.

(I will, however, edit this to add that one thing I do think is somewhat silly is how many new salvage items there are. I don't think we need that many items when they are all earned in exactly the same way. I'd have cut it to, say 4 commons, 2 uncommon, 2 rare, and maybe just 1 rare. Or even just matching what Alpha has, 6 common, 4 uncommon, 1 rare, 1 very rare)

You said they got their tier three in some slots on day one. That's not one or two trials, that's rushing.

I don't think it's all that grindy either, especially just to unlock with ixp, but the rares require a considerable amount of threads being spent.

Notice that in my post I was very deliberate in saying everyone and not anyone. Yes there's always going to be some outliers who push like mad to get it as fast as possible. Some folks are willing to spend tons of Inf and pay 2-1 shards for threads, just so they can get it right now. That's going to happen and there's not much point in crippling everyone to stop it.

But there is a value in limiting that to those handful of hardcore folks. If they had made these new powers use just Shards, straight up, I'm willing to bet that a MUCH larger number of people would have been unlocking and slotting the new powers without ever setting foot in an Incarnate Trial.

We can argue about whether that is good or bad, but the Devs have expressed that they think it's bad, and I happen to agree with them. So that is the reason. Even if some folks don't like that reason, that's the reason.

I don't know if it needs to be an Incarnate Trial but I would like to see it added to the turnstile.

Edit: Although on second thought, it would be nice to get some kind of reward like Astral Merits for, say, wiping out each mito bloom.
