  2. Just wanted to point out to those talking about continuity and tying the universe together and all of that stuff - this reboot isn't half as much about story continuity as it is about that #1 on the cover of the book. The goal is not to get everybody to buy every book, and it's not to make things "make sense." The goal is to give potential new readers an opportunity to get in on the ground floor. When they go out and see a cool Batman movie, or a friend makes a recommendation, they don't walk into a store and see issue #452 and go "what the hell, screw that." Instead they see #9 or #15 or something and they think "OK I'll check it out and if I like it, I can go back and pick up the ones before it."

That's the goal. Will it work? Is it a good idea? I don't know. We'll have to wait and see. All I know is this: After the "New 52" panel at Baltimore Comic Con this weekend, and hearing Scott Snyder talk about Swamp Thing and Batman, I know two #1's I'm picking up in September that I wouldn't have before.

I think there's something wrong with your analogy if the most powerful abilities in the game are represented by a bag of rats.

Just wondering is all. And yes, that's all highly speculative.
If that happens then, yeah, they'd get a month as VIP. But that's not really all that different from the month they get if they activate today, except they'd have a month to explore the Issue 21 content and powersets that they would lose by going premium. Edit: And Praetoria I suppose.

VIP's get Going Rogue content, but if they didn't buy the expansion, they will lose that content if they switch to Premium. So if one plans to go to Premium they'll either want to buy the GR box now, or buy the GR content from the Paragon Market once Freedom launches.

Edit: Also, If I understand correctly (and I'm not 100% sure I do, so take this with a grain of salt), there is no level of Paragon Reward (Veteran) status that gives a Premium player access to Incarnate content. BUT if you purchased Going Rogue, then you will keep Incarnate access as a Premium player.

There's nothing special about this purchase, other than the fact that it can only be used for a new account. When you buy the game, you get a month of paid time. It doesn't matter what the start date is, the end date is a month later.

This is a new subscription you're buying for $2. This doesn't add-on to an existing subscription.

I was able to create a third game account under my master account using a code I just purchased for $2. So it works.

I figured for $2, I'd take the plunge and find out.

It's a subscription. They're going to get at least the 400 points for the first month, even if they don't renew the sub after the first month. They will be VIP as long as they continue to subscribe. If they stop subscribing, they will go to premium.

This is the way it works with all current subscriptions. This one is no different. The ONLY thing different about this one is that you can't use it to add the code on to an existing game account, thereby getting a month of paid time for $2.

Note that this does NOT include Going Rogue. Nor does it include any of the extra goodies like the GvE jumpjet, etc.

I don't think we need to wait and see anything. It's staring us right in the face - and if he had demonstrated this thing as actually working, in a convincing way, to anyone with half the brainpower it would take to not be bamboozled by this charlatan, then the aerospace industry would be falling all over themselves to buy his patent, which he does not apparently have.

From the way it was described, my thinking was that the player and Frostfire managed together to consume ALL the power of the Well, thus becoming, in all practicality, gods. In the end they are all that's left, each having half the power.

I freely admit, though, I haven't read that mission text since I18 beta. So I could have misinterpreted it, or could be misremembering, or it may even have been changed.

What else does he say? "Has done some important research" doesn't really carry much weight out of context.

    Quote:
"To prove his invention Barnes took me with him on an experiment, along State Route 104 from Route 56...We made the trip...without the STDTS turned on in 24 minutes. Coming back, he turned his machine on and I watched the speedometer closely...Back at Route 56 Barnes cheered when we checked our watches. We did it in 22 minutes.

    - MIKE PRATT, THE CIRCLEVILLE HERALD March 2002
A journalist clocked a 2 minute difference on the return trip - not the same route driven at the same speed, but the return trip - and he "watched the speedometer closely." Well damn. Must be a warp drive.

Marshall's approach and have no problem with it."

    - BERNARD MULLIGAN, PhD,
    Professor of Physics THE
    OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY Feb. 2004
"I like his approach" to viewing time is a far cry from "he's qualified and capable of building a warp drive."

    Quote:
"I would like to thank Marshall Barnes for taking the time to talk
to my CS 201 course on Time Machines. His presentation generated a
lot of positive feedback and discussion from the class.

The class of around thirty five students seemed unanimously pleased
and were impressed with his poise and enthusiasm for the topic. The
following class period, we discussed at length his insights into the
use of videotapes and music as a "way back" to the past (or a past).
We compared his work with that of Roland Barthes in his text, Camera
Lucida and with our impressions of photography as a memory aid and
record of the past garnered from a photography exhibit the students
attended at Columbus Museum of Art.

Personally, I have rarely seen someone with the passion that Marshall
    Barnes displayed for his work."

    - SABRA WEBER, PhD, Associate Professor Anthropology Department, THE
    OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY May 2004
What does this have to do with building a warp drive?

    Quote:
"An ongoing, online experiment created by Dr. Peter Naish of the Open University, in conjunction with BBC Science, and hosted at OPEN UNIVERSITY has been cited as being flawed with "worthless results" by researcher and conceptual theorist, Marshall Barnes...The initial hypothesis of the test is that extraverts will see the cube flip more times when asked than introverts, and introverts will see it flip more when asked to just passively view it than extraverts. According to the results online so far, this doesn't seem to be the case. Marshall claims to know why."

    - NANCY R. FENN, THE INTROVERTZ COACH August 2004
This is just a note saying that he claims to have an explanation for something. What is this proving?

    Quote:
"Later this month, Marshall Barnes will present a scientific paper at the 7th annual International Mars Society Conference in Chicago...Marshall Barnes...truly thinks outside the box...The unique mix of creative thinking and science has enabled Barnes to come up with some interesting technological theories.

    - A.M. WHITAKER, COLUMBUS COMMUNICATOR August 2004
What's the paper? Where is it published? I would like to read it before commenting on this.

    Quote:
"Marshall Barnes has proven himself to be a bright, enthusiastic, and
ever-inquiring mind. Time and time again, he has come up with inventive
ideas that take us all to the edges of our imagination. Any program
initiated by him will be well worth attending."

    - FRED ALAN WOLF, PhD, physicist, author (TAKING THE QUANTUM LEAP, others), cinema star (WHAT THE BLEEP DO WE KNOW? , AMERICAN VIDEO DIARY) March 2005
Praising him for imaginative ideas, again, does not imply an endorsement that he can build a warp drive.

    Quote:
"Marshall was able to engage and involve the students in the
SuperScience presentation despite their being antsy about the near
    close of the school year".

    - LINDA LEE KENNEDY, Science Teacher, Briggs High School MAY 2005

"Students were excited and had many questions throughout his
presentation. Marshall encouraged them to ask a question when it came
up instead of waiting until the conclusion - students took him up on
    it.

    - JACK MINOT, Physics Teacher Bexley High School May 2005

"Marshall has an excellent physics background and was able to adjust
his explanations and answers to student's questions at the
appropriate level that students can understand".

    - CRAIG KRAMER, Physics Teacher, Bexley High School May 2005

"Barnes...believes bringing his presentation entitled "SuperScience for High School Physics" will get students interested in areas of physics they never thought possible."

    - SHANNON DILLMAN, WESTSIDE MESSENGER June 2005
All of these are just more praise for his enthusiasm and charisma with students. They don't say anything about his qualifications or ability to build a warp drive or anything else.

    Quote:

"Marshall Barnes shows off a photograph of the Santa Maria that he took...bending light to cause the ship to appear to disappear. The photo will be a part of an exhibit at the Santa Maria Visitor Education Center in downtown Columbus."

    - TRI-VILLAGE NEWS August 2007
I saw David Copperfield do the same thing.

He has an established history in his field and apparently has done much to help children have fun learning science. He's not some random kook that has spontaneously appeared a month ago; there's a lot of past documentation that has him involved in other projects, so he's been around.

I suggest the wait and see approach rather than just judging before you've seen anything.
Again, I didn't say science blogs and websites. I didn't say schoolchildren. I said a scientist. Show me a paper with his name on it that was published in a journal.

Everything in the first two pages of that search was something he wrote about how awesome he is, or something a blogger wrote about how awesome he is, or something about a DJ with the same name (or maybe that's the same guy, too?).

So what was your link supposed to prove?

Edit: I did a quick search of my own:

    http://patft.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-P...rive%22&d=PTXT

These are all the results which come up in a patent search for "warp drive" and none of them belong to Barnes. Most are about yarn. One is for an aerospace vehicle but is, agian, not his.

If he is an engineer and an inventor, what are his patents? I would like to look them up.

PS: Searching by inventor name for his name turns up nothing. A search for "STDTS" turned up no results - is there someplace where he spells out what STDTS stands for? I didn't see it.
