Unfortunately, this has been a long-standing issue that's been going on for many months. I've been mostly following this topic regarding the situation, but there hasn't been a recent acknowledgement of the situation from anyone, though I'm sure a few people are hoping for progress in getting this resolved.

Keeping the names on and targeting for info is the one way I decide whether on not I want to strike up casual, unsolicited roleplay like a "first meeting". It's RP common sense, in my opinion, to not automatically make that part of your own character's knowledge unless the other person states or infers that it's alright to do so. If you have questions or doubts, ask OOC in a tell first. If I'm browsing concepts for the heck of it, I might throw a "nice name get" or "interesting idea you have" out there.
(Then there's the issue of striking up a conversation when the other party isn't in for it. I had that happen at least once, though we ended up having a good OOC exchange where I gave the player some encouragement in terms of getting into RP again.)
In terms of canon and whatnot, it's a framework that the developers happen to have in place for the people who want to use it for their characters, piecemeal or otherwise, but I don't see the need to make it an end-all that people must adhere to in order to be considered as credible roleplayers. It all ends up being personal perspective when it comes to drawing the lines, anyhow. -
Quote:There's technically something like that already on the Titan Network, the Ouroboros Portal site. I personally haven't used it in ages (heck, I have a hard time even keeping my VV up to date) but it's something that's there if you're so inclined. What we need is a website like Crey Industries hero threat database, or Virtueverse, except for the all of the servers. Something like an extension from the main site that lets people write the elaborate tales behind their heroes.

I can actually second Akry's idea here.
One of my retired characters is a character that turns into a cloud, and having the sole there makes it a bit awkward... -
Quote:Not sure if I'm thinking of the same one, but it *is* possible in (said) certian MMO to lock costume parts so they don't change their appearance when you equip something else, but you still have to deal with statistics. There is a super hero MMO out there that has powers tied to clothes, and imho it´s the definition of suck.
I played it in beta and yes, I am ashamed of myself
Still a "no" on my end. -
Expanding basic tights/masks/etc. as per the discussion taking place elsewhere in this forum section, eventually moving forward into Golden/Silver Age stuff.
*cross fingers* -
Thanks for the backup, Thunder Knight. I was aiming to post something along those lines but never managed to find the right words. At any rate, it's that kind of elitist attitude about special equipment which dissuades me from playing certian other MMOs in the first place.
In terms of the current Incarnate themed pieces? I don't easily expect to use them in the near future since they don't fit to any concept that I like to make, and CoH has enough tools in its repertoire for me to make characters that "stand out" with the pieces I *do* use.
Hopefully with the Tights discussion here, and the previous Classic Age thread, that toolbox will grow for me and the (many) other people who lean towards those simpler pieces. Anything beyond that, in my opinion, is extra and secondary. -
Costume parts have always been cosmetic, there's no need to start turning them into rare equipment with status for any reason, even to distinguish ourselves.
Back to topic... multicolored masks? -
C, for simplicity's sake.

I am stuck between A and B, but willing to go with the latter if there's a no-rings version as well.

Prestige Power Slide needs to be made available to the Market as it is already, first, but I'm totally with you for ice sliding.

There's not really any hard and fast rules to RPing, but people do have their preferences.
Sometimes the best way is to jump in. Find someone that has the (RP) tag in their description and make conversation. Of course, it can be hit or miss, but it's a question of effort. You can't just expect it to come to you, even though sometimes it does.
Another way is to look into supergroups that roleplay by looking at the Supergroup Directory thread and/or going through GuildPortal sites, reading up on their themes, guidelines and activity levels.
Also, character is everything. Even if you don't have a full-out origin of a toon to start off with, at the very least plan out how you think the character would act and feel, and find the character's voice. -
I can whole-heartedly support the last option in particular (animal transformations). I deleted a concept character because I wasn't happy with using humanoid versions of animals pieced together from the costume creator.
And while not new, make the old Prestige Power Slide available first before making anything else with that animation available. -
I already have an entry idea for this contest, whenever it would be announced.
However, without any details... I'd rather make something completely new, than nominate one of my alts and risk having it become exclusive company property. -
Damn, I found another one that I'd like to add to the list. You can probably find an interesting use for this one...
Gumption, a detective who works a private investigations office in Steel Canyon. He has a cowboy's attitude and an athlete's determination.
He's also a mutant gifted with above-average strength and healing, but with one little quirk: when his skin comes into contact with water it becomes extremely adhesive and gum-like, sticking to most anything it comes into contact with. It causes him much annoyance, but he does find "practical" ways of using his gum hide to his advantage. -
Oh, I'd like to try!
This is Action Trooper. He as an ability to alter reality, but it's mostly put to use in bringing his military action figures, and other various toys and play-gadgets, to life. He can also render himdelf into a solid, statue-like state at will, sometimes using this ability for protection and at other times to be slightly mischevious around his friends. All of the effects caused by his arsenal, such as gunfire, are purely psychic in nature.
He has a full complement of toy soldiers. (The medic and two spec-ops he has at his current level, 25, aren't in the screen because it's old, although I'd kind of like to see one of each kid of pet with him (soldier, medic, spec-ops, commando) in various states of size and "animation". If you get to this one, let me know if you want me to screen another version with more of a reference.)
He's currently searching for his mother since he was separated from her during the Galaxy City meteorfall. His father was a soldier in the military that was apparently killed early in the first war with the Rikti. -
Something I wish I could go to in person, but I'll definitely try to catch the stream.
(Also, if there's a contest that will be attached to this pummit, please don't make it about getting a haircut.) -
More A and B, but small bits of C would be fine on occasion if they can work with more than just a handful of patterns.
I agree that the white "tights" on skin needs to be addressed, especially in terms of mask patterns (since I rarely make female characters in the CC). More patterns, more emblems (and places to put them)... I think i'd mostly be echoing what's already come up here and in the old Classic Age topic that was closed.
Go in this general direction. -
Quote:Other than a power that causes chaining like Electric does, I'm not sure about a Swarm Melee. I'd port such attack to the Blast set, giving it an initial short range to make up for the eventual spreading out.as much as i would LOVE this [meelee and blast! nice!], and an Animal Control[serpentine holds, bird flock/bug swarm immobs, charging knockdowns, ferocious animals fear/stuns] set or a Beast-Warrior[think thundercats or He-Man's buddies] MM set...
I feel like the way they made the new MM set, they sort of mashed all those together thereby making these other [better organized for the AT imo] sets less likely to happen.
Maybe i can try to work out some specs in the future. Depends on how distracted I am. -
I had heard of this in a couple of global channels outside of RPV, since a few of my friends did know of the player.
I offer my sympathy. -
I'm a little lukewarm on this idea of having the association of Statesman with a developer that hasn't been working on the game for years be the reason why the character should be killed off.
I've played the story, and knowing this information now lessens the impact even more than it already was by having it spoiled a month in advance.
A thought occurred to me: why wasn't the "Statesman" moniker passed on to someone else when Emmert left to go work on other things? Players ask for someone to release names they're not planning on using anymore, and I think I would much rather have a member of the current staff take on the Statesman identity (I was half-hoping Nakayama would have done so on his promotion, but he's cool as he is now, too) and allow the character to persist rather than perform this act of "purification".
The memorial art (for the new log-in screen) is also well done, don't get me wrong on that, but with Statesman supposedly behind us now it would be better for that image to be the background, fading, and featuring either the rest of the Freedom Phalanx and/or a montage of "player characters" (a la the original CoH log screen) in the foreground.
In terms of a Statesman statue/history plaque, I'd throw in my support for this in a heartbeat. He should get the same, if not better, treatment as Atlas has currently in the game lore. Put it in Prometheus Park, or the green area south of City Hall, or even the park south-easterly from the Architect building. Put one in Independence Port, somewhere. Put one on Rikti Hill in Talos Island. I'm... running out of ideas.
Then there's the mystery of the Salute to Statesman loyalty program... the one thing that we really don't know about is the vanity pet that they'll be giving us, unless I missed something. Is it going to be a mini-States following us around? What else can they come up with for a promotion like that, really?
(Personally, I want the mini-Statesman so I can use it in a concept. Do it.) -
I also brought this up in the dev-topic regarding Golden/Silver age requests, though admittedly it probably wasn't the *best* place for it. I still agree that we need more options there.
-
Depending what I see when I log into the game today, I might have to petition them for being "late", myself. The last time I had my VIP points awarded was December 7th, my "billing date" is (now at my best correct knowledge) the 13th and it's now the 15th of January.
It is disappointing that there's still no solution to this mess of problems four to five months on. -
I might as well go ahead and request that, if that CoH was originally intended to portray the whole idea of the "classic" ages, then I would prefer to see the grand majority of these suggestions rolled out as part of content updates (patches/issues/updates) and not not not for purchase in the Paragon Market whatsoever.
Thus opens the door.
