  1. Anyone seeing this?

Parallels 5 will kernel panic my machine whenever CoH is running. Launching PD5 is OK, but the moment I start XP it will take a dump. I tried turning off the 3D acceleration but that didn't change it.

Before I started trying to fiddle with different VMs and settings I was wondering if anyone else had run across this yet.

-End/-Recov is a wonderful form of mitigation, in my opinion. Short Circuit and Tesla Cage are both -Recov, and Short Circuit and Power Sink are both -End (along with the rest of Electrical Blast). I have an Emp/Elec Defender and an Elec/Pain Corruptor, and both do their best when entire groups are forced to sit there and stare; unable to fight back. Of course, they're both also able to heal themselves to an extent, which is probably a factor in my success.

Bosses and Elite Bosses are even better. With the exception of the Purple Triangles, you can easily stack a couple holds on them (one comes from Tesla Cage) and keep them busy while you drain them, then simply apply an occasional Tesla Cage and Short Circuit to keep them dry indefinitely. People seem quick to dismiss the effects of Endurance Drain on bosses or higher, but I've successfully and completely drained a Lattice in the Abyss without any help before the team took it out. And this was without Hasten.

My teams have always been grateful when the entire spawn just stands there unable to fight back. It really does serve to make the fight a bit unbalanced in the team's favor.
Sounds really neat. I'd love to see that, but to be honest, the time it takes to keep a GM/AV drained would probably be time better spent in dumping their regen or doing damage.

Unfortunately this game is pretty much centered around damage dealing. Slows, kb, -acc and end drain seem to be second class citizens in the PvE game here.

    Yes there is.

    There are some limitations however.

The primary one is that you have to be a dev.

    Hullo and welcome to Justice!

Probably some good reading material from the Justice library:

Most of the strategies are modified from Hero raids, most of the info has been compiled/developed/modified over the years by Quat el al.

Note that Justice is kinda casual and tries to avoid requiring special builds and special teams as much as possible to ensure that everyone who does attend can participate, but obviously some things are required and recommended or perform better than others.

I understand that for mitigation to occur, the enemy's endurance has to be completely drained and the recovery pretty well bottomed out as well, creating limiting conditions. So:

In PvE, would you consider powers that drain endurance and recovery to be effective at mitigating enemy attacks?

If so, what would be your preferred AT and powersets? Do you have non-trivial ideas for slotting the end/recovery-draining powers to make this strategy more efficient?

If not, could you share your experience that leads you to that conclusion?

    Thanks again!
It's probably as reliable in mitigation as -acc is. Great for minions and lieuts, bosses are probably the limit. Once you see EBs and AVs, it doesn't matter what you do to debuff their endurance (or acc for that matter), they'll just ignore it and keep hitting you.

The only problem with fear is that it will slow down incoming attacks on the brutes, but usually there are more than enough romans to keep the fury bar going.
  9. Freedom is the highest load, followed closely by Virtue. I've seen them swap positions but not very frequently. Justice follows as a distant 3rd place, but fairly consistently in that spot.

The others I can't be 100% positive, but I think it is Champion, Infinity and Guardian.

I also tend to try and run them now for speed, without being so engrossed in a speed run when I don't got under 30 minutes. Most recently the TF's I've been running end around 45 minutes (due to me being of all things a slow poke).

But it has gotten me to wondering. What is the best mix of Villians/Heroes for a speed style ITF.

So I'll pose the question to all of you.
[b[] If you could make a team for speed for an ITF what would it comprise of? [/b]

Please note that I'm not asking what you HAVE done, or pictures showing what you have done. But if you were forming a team what would be the perfect mix of AT's in an 8 man group?

If you could include the reasoning behind each choice it would make things easier.

    Thanks,

I've never been a stickler for ATs and power sets, but I guess if I was to have a dream team, it would look something like this:

    1. Good kinetic. Speed boost, fulcrum shift. Transfusion spamming for the computer and when rushing rommie and his 3 stooges on the last mission. Usually more than 1 kinetic is overkill but if your kinetic isn't spamming SB and transfusion, you might need 2.
    2. Rad or 2. For dumping the regen of the AVs. Also good toggles for herding the generals on the 3rd mission to the computer.
    3. Cold def (and/or bubbler). Buff stacking allows for one buffer to hit the def cap on all teammates. Heat Loss is nice and benumb etc. make Cold > FF. FF is nice for Force bub herding but not really much else over Cold. FF Mez protection on 2nd mission isn't a big deal compared to popping a BF, or against Requiem.
    4. Brutes...more the better. Damage cap is highest on Brutes and they tend to be a bit sturdier in a scrum than blasters, although a good blaster is a good substitute except for tanking duties against AVs. Bottom line: Fury + Fulcrum Shift + Def cap is easy street.
    5. Assorted damage dealers and -regen -resist debuffers. Probably a really good single target blaster for going after the Generals in the 3rd mission at range.

Someone should have vengeance in case a pwnage happens, and rez and tp are always nice too (usually the rad, kin or cold). Brutes and blasters with AoEs are nice, VEATs with non toggle dropping nukes are nice as well, to dump all the minions and Lts. for the countdowns.
  11. With 4 tanks on your team, it would really depend on if you had an immob/slow.

Given that many melee can do enough damage to steal aggro from your taunter, I would have dragged her near the boat then immobed and slowed her so the boat people can help. The Longbow and turrets should have helped with enough ranged damage to make sure she couldn't heal faster than the incoming damage.

Also having the other 3 tanks turn off their taunt auras and slug away at her should have done the trick.
  12. Shouldn't be a problem at all. Running on a 4870 here fine.
  13. You'd probably have to roll it into the cider/wine environment to make it work.

  16. What a poorly designed survey...I voted CoH where I could, but to *have* to vote for every category is patently absurd.

Since we're talking about MMOs, how many people would have tried every game on each category, let alone heard of them.

I suspect their results are going to be a bunch of hooey and they'll publish it anyhow.

Cosmetic 'Surgeons' are physicians of any sort who sell botox injections and other 'minor' procedures. Generally this is the wild west of health care so you have to be very careful of who you choose to see since they do not undergo the same regimen of training that a plastic surgeon does.

IOW, Cosmetic surgeons want you to believe that they are as qualified as Plastic surgeons the same way a Chiropractor wants you to believe that they are as qualified as a Doctor of Medicine.

While the Paragon Studio Devs probably can't comment on exactly what went on at Cryptic, we do know that City of Heroes was essentially run on a skeleton crew across Issues 7, 8, 9, and I think up until 10.
That is a pretty serious allegation. Do you have any direct proof showing that Cryptic was actively attempting to kill CoH? NCSoft would probably sue the pants off of Jack/Cryptic if there was any such evidence.

I would presume that CoH was suffering from quite a bit of neglect because Jack Emmert was busy working on securing DCU and MUO, and diverting resources to land the 'whales', but that would just be trying to bite off more than he could chew rather than claiming he was trying to commit suicide.

From an external perspective (at the time), it would make more sense to build up the CoX customer base and then sell them the idea of transferring over to something like MUO after it was launched. To try and kill your only cash income stream before the other product has launched makes no sense whatsoever.

Hey dude, the dating thread is over here.
  20. Try to monitor your stats, especially defense. If you are getting debuffed it might lead to a cascading defense failure (followed by the classic faceplant).

Also aren't some patch powers auto hit? The solution to those would be to move your pets off the patch.
  21. I've had a similar experience although I can't guarantee whether it is on my end or not (yet). Once I finish a couple of projects off I'll try to delve into it more, but right now I've notice lag during prime time (6-12 PST) that tends to clear up beyond that.

Heh, I rate people as well but I never really thought it was snobbery but more akin to gear fear. Just like the OP's friend who was concerned they couldn't keep up, I always thought that someone who believes their team NEEDS sets and bonuses or even specific ATs and builds just doesn't know any better. Nothing really wrong with that, but nothing really right either.

Usually those people are at the mid point of the learning curve of the game, where they are just figuring out the mechanics of their toons and haven't truly optimized their playing (yet). Some people may never get past that mentality and will plateau there.

People who figure out their way beyond that usually are a lot more casual about what they bring and will self select their toons to optimize what is best for the team's needs.

A good team leader will make sure that all the basics are covered, a great team leader will make sure also have 2 or 3 alternative plans in their back pocket just in case something happens. Whether a specific person is IOed out or not really doesn't matter then.
  23. It's an indication that they are trying to melee their target. Sometimes they take off because all their other powers are still recharging so the only thing they can do is run up to poke their foe in the eye.

Sometimes they run up and do nothing because their other powers have recharged by the time they get to their destination and they've 'changed their mind'.
