The human brain can interpret more than 60Hz. Most people can see the difference in 60Hz televisions and 120Hz (frame interpolated) televisions, although there are diminishing returns.

Setting a maximum framerate of 60Hz works fine in most non first person shooter games. In terms of 'improving' performance, for the most part this game is not very CPU dependent and most dual core machines (and up) are not saturated. Capping the frame rate won't do much to improve performance unless you are running more than one instance of the game.
  3. Ran one last week. Ambrosias seemed to be working fine for melee. EoEs do NOT work for the Crystal Titan, never have.

Unlike Hami, PA are unaffected by the Crystal Titan so Illusion controllers work fine for tanking the Titan.

I think there was a significant change to the Eden trial (compared to last year) in that the accuracy of the Titan's attacks have been massively increased. Previously it was possible to fight the Titan without Ambrosias by gulping down a whole load of defense insps. Doesn't seem to work very well nowadays so Ambrosias are necessary for melee at the very least for the team to be successful (unless you've got your illusion controller handy).

I have already bought a 5970 Radeon specifically for Eyefinity and Ultra. Once Ultra hits with support for more than one GPU I'm looking to pick up another 5970 if the dual GPUs isn't enough to power the system effectively.

Currently I've moved the GTX280 to the secondary GPU slot and both video cards are powering Dell 3007s. I have a third 3007 to plop onto the ATi (effectively making the Nvidia card a physx processor only) once eyefinity is supported in CoX.

I would have considered a GTX480 but they are not here yet and I've heard only 2 monitors per card whilst the ATi 5970 supports 3 per card, and it is available now.

This is the only game I play.

    Ssd?

I bought windows7 ultimate 64bit and an 80GB Intel SSD (G2) for $300CDN during a boxing day special.

The SSD was faster for booting than my 7200RPM HD but for CoH it wasn't *that* much faster. I wound up going back to the Hard Drive and using the SSD as the location for my swap file.

The SSD just didn't have that much space when you consider that my photo library is 36GB (25k photos) and Steam is sucking up 500MB to 10GB per game. I might switch the disk over to divide apps and data but I'm pretty settled in at the moment.
  9. I would suppose there is a guaranteed way of getting into Closed Beta, and every subsequent CB after that too:
    1. Go Here: http://www.reuters.com/finance/stock...mbol=036570.KS
    2. Pickup about 1-5% of the outstanding shares.
    3. Get voted on the board.
    4. Demand access.

    Another way:
    1. Pick a person here:

    2. Join their family by way of marriage or adoption.
    3. Enter Friends and Family program.

Other than that I can't think of any other way you can guarantee access to CB without being on a mystery list.

That's why I said you could only buy one week at a time. If you wanted to jump the queue to sequentially stack your ads, every week's jump would cost another 1B on top per week (eg. moving an ad up 3 weeks would cost 3B extra). I would be doubtful that anyone could afford to keep any billboard going for a whole year exclusively, since a popular board would probably have a lineup that is quite deep.

    Love the Billboard idea.

Charge 100 Million inf per week per billboard minimum per server. Double that amount if it is not the paying toon's native server. Ads never last more than 1 week before the next person's is rotated in. Jumping the queue costs 1 billion for every week forward you want to push ahead of someone else.

Every ad submitted gets a deposit fee of 100 Million. You lose that amount if an ad gets rejected/banned, otherwise it goes towards the advertising fee.

There has to be a way of automating the ad system or having the community approve/police it, since it could never work if the mods/devs would have to approve content, although we do have a moderated system in the forums and in AE which is manually reviewed.

    I need to vent!

Personally, I think a kin that doesn't SB is a waste of a toon.

When people are paying over 100 Million influence for a LotG global recharge, which gives a measly +7.5% recharge, and speed boost gives a +50% recharge, plus end recovery plus run speed, it is a no brainer that keeping the team speed boosted is key to making sure everything goes smoothly and quickly.

Whenever I see a teammate with no end, and kin is on the team, I start thinking the kinetic has not done their job.

Granted, I started with a kinetic defender and have a fire/kin as well, but if you're not ready to be a bit obsessive about the SB, then you're not ready to be a kin

As far as kicking goes, if someone wants to pull attitude with me, I'll shovel it right back at them, especially if I was trying to be diplomatic. Every team needs a bit of discipline in order to get things done, especially the more trying tasks. If you don't want to follow the leader's orders during the tough periods, then leave and make your own team. Simple as that.

  17. Not sure if you've got it licked or not, but you may want to try "single display performance mode" in the nvidia driver, and choosing "windowed" resolution in the CoX client to see if anything changes.

It's a clean install of Windows7 with the latest Nvidia driver (before the rollback...196.21?).

    No physics card installed.

It looks like the monitoring routine for MSE is intercepting the calls during knockback for whatever reason to inspect them more thoroughly.

Before the reinstall I was using NOD32 so I didn't have a frame of reference to compare it to.

It could be something similar to the false positive that some AV software had but MSE didn't flag it as a false positive like the others.
  19. Wait. Right now is kind of the worst time for a CoX buyer to look for a video card since:

    1) Nvidia cards work better on the current CoX client because there are fewer driver issues.

    2) Nvidia has been caught with their pants down and screwed up their next generation launch windows badly.

    3) AMD/ATi cards are way better than Nvidia cards right now.

    4) AMD is the new partner for CoX going forward.

    5) Ultramode is still not finished yet so no one knows what the final performance is going to be like on Nvidia or AMD

    6) Without any real competition AMD cards have no pricing pressure.

If you can wait this out, Nvidia's new cards will hopefully put pressure on AMD to either drop prices or release revisions to their cards for better price/performance.

Also, in theory Ultra mode will fix all the driver issues that AMD cards have had, and hopefully have crossfire/SLI support so you can have a better choice of cards to work with.

Of course, if you are an Nvidia die hard, I wouldn't buy a card right now because the GTX2xx platform is quite old when compared to the 5xx0 series as well.

It's one of the reasons why I get all confused when somebody says ATi is the one with the driver issues. The recent 9.12 release aside, Nvidia's the one with the reputation for bugged out drivers... and to AMD's credit, they had a hotfix out for the 9.12 bungle pretty quickly.
To recommend that someone switch platforms for a single driver flub it a bit extreme. You give credit to ATi/AMD for fixing a driver screwup but not to Nvidia for suggesting a rollback.

Looks like all the vendors have their own issues but I wouldn't recommend throwing out the baby with the bathwater just yet.

If you were referring to a host of other issues that Nvidia is facing you might have some traction though...
  21. I found a bug that probably won't affect many people but it took me forever to figure out what was wrong. I'm not even certain that it is the entire root cause but it did mitigate it.

After reinstalling Windows7 Ultimate 64 bit because the RC was expiring, I found that under certain circumstances I was lagging a lot.

Normally I see 30-50 fps but whenever I lagged I would see .2-3 fps. The entire system was stalling, like mini freezes.

Normally most people won't even see the problem, but if you have lots of knockback it may happen if you have a slowish storage subsystem and you are running Microsoft Security Essentials. Note that I had no lag otherwise until I used knockback powers on 3 mobs and up. After about 10 mobs and up the game would be essentially rendered unplayable (.1 fps or less), and the network connection would stall as well since the system was freezing up entirely.

The solution is to put CityofHeroes.exe on unmonitored status in MSE, uninstall MSE and use something else, or forgo lots of knockback (ie. force bubble herding or footstomp or hurricane).

Alternatively a fast storage subsystem, like a SSD, can be fast enough where the MSE monitoring doesn't seem to cause any interference.

Again, I'm not 100% certain that MSE alone is causing this since I had to reinstall the entire OS from scratch. It could be that I have non-optimal drivers installed for the hard disk to make it lag with MSE.
  22. are you running microsoft security essentials?

    Worst Miss Tells

I had a friend who wanted form a TF and he proposed Citadel.

Too bad he mistyped it as Clitadel.

I told him I could never find the con to do that TF.

Luckily it was on a smallish channel so the ribbing 'ahem' wasn't too prolonged.
