Quote:People who are running Dual Pistols right now have already pre-ordered GR. Now that we know the Incarnate system is going to require GR as well will probably make GR very popular among vets.I certainly am looking forward to checking out the Praetorian zones but people who don't have GR won't be able to get there so if GR is a ticket out of the red side for some then it will be even worse for those unable to get out.
A lot depends on whether there is some huge demand to get hero ATs doing villain missions and just how far the vigilantes are willing to go. I've seen far too many threads by heroes only players to think many of them want to "sully" themselves with villain content but there was that population jump redside when VEATs hit so who knows I may be wrong and they may flock red. -
Welcome back!
Best thing to do is to join the global chat channels Justice United and JFA2010. Super Groups are nice for storage and base teleporters but nowadays all the action seems to be in chat channels.
You can probably find good teaming opportunities and SG from those channels. -
Quote:Most indications are that people who are fed up with the red market and/or feel that there are no teaming opportunities will go blue. The thing that interests me is the question: Which way will the most people go? Will it be Brutes and MMs headed heroside? Or will it be scrappers, controllers... what WOULD people bring V-side?
I have a financial stake in the outcome:I'm going to be doing currency exchanges and hopefully lots of them. I'm quite sure I'll end up with all my money on one side and I'm trying to figure out which side.
However, there is also a real chance that the new zones in Praetoria will be where everyone hangs out anyhow, evening out the playing field for blue and redside alike. Given the fact that all the new zones will be designed with ultra mode in mind, I think a lot of players will want to hang their hats and see the shinies versus the old zones. -
Full screen mode? What model (gpu primarily) iMac?

Quote:Interesting discussion. I think that people have forgotten the original metrics of SFs and TFs benchmarking.actually i gave a legit idea on how to improve the choices for red side. just like every other time anything is brought up for red side. it's called more content for red while revamping some of the blue content.
Originally there was no big reward for running a task force. A badge, a souvenir and a SO were all to be had. People didn't have a desire to run multiple TFs, let alone speed them. They complained.
Strike Forces were designed to appease people by making SFs shorter so people wouldn't have to take breaks in order to finish a long series of missions.
After recipes were added, Villains actually were at an advantage since a rare recipe drop was the reward for a strike force/task force completion, regardless of SF/TF duration. This led to speedy TFs and SFs, especially KHTFs and Edens.
Now that SF/TF rewards have changed to be duration based, strike forces suffer in comparison because historically SFs were sped through to get the drop (dropping the time metric), and there are fewer strike forces in general.
What I'd like to see is the development of Strike Forces based on Ghost Widow, Scirocco and Black Scorpion.
While I think that villain content is much better in writing, I think it is also harder to get a Villain concept going that is rated "Teen" friendly. Parts of the Vanguard stories and most of the midnighter arc is evidence of the shoe-horned nature of villain content lately. This leaves villains feeling gypped. Heroic motivations are easy. Villain motivations not so much unless you want to make them insane.
Eg. Barracuda Strike Force: When Mueller rescues Reichsman, he refuses to reward Mueller and pops everyone instead. Why keep the villains alive and kill Mueller?
I'm just hoping the villain writing gets back to the level of Westin Phipps. Now there's a Strike Force I would do...instead we'll probably get ebil emo vampires for the next Strike Force. -
Quote:Leveling slower isn't just a function of uber builds. The player is a much better judge of how fast someone can level over what IOs they are slotting. It's mainly a function of people who want to get into the upper echelons of the game or feel they need some specific build for the sake of completeness that it is bothering them. That's a bit like saying it's OK if all villains level slower, because they're villains. Given that IO us has always been presented as an alternate progression method to gaining XP (particularly when characters can't gain XP any longer due to the level cap), it is very much like that.
It doesn't have to be exactly the same. It should be comparable. Right now, with respect to the market, it is not comparable in my opinion. Just because there are other ways it is not comparable does not justify any of them. They should all be improved if possible.
That's not a solution to the problem. That's deciding the problem will never be fixed and giving up.
The fact is that the invention system is a part of the game. If it's available, it should be available in an equitable way. Simply because it's optional does not imply that it should not have equal applicability. As soon as it does, there is the implication that if you want to make good use of the system you should choose one side over the other. That's bad.
Why would you say it's giving up? Given the information that has been published about GR I'm surprised you're taking such a myopic view of the need to merge markets.
GR will have heroes who wind up to be villains and vice versa. Each will still trade into their respective markets, as far as I've heard? Are you implying that everyone is going to make a villain and then go heroside in GR and then every hero not switch sides to villains?
GR itself will likely be a boost to both markets and since the BM is slower than WW it will get a pickup. A significant one I believe. Then the point will be moot on whether the markets need to be merged or not. -
Quote:Again, being PO'd isn't a good reason just to merge the markets. Lower teaming opportunities and lesser content are probably a big part of the reason on why the BM isn't as easy to fill out recipes than on WW. As well having Heroes around for twice as long may have something to do with the playtime differentials as well.only if you have lots of time to grind merits, which I do not. Tickets are random, so they don't count.
which isn't a problem blue side, where I just make tons of inf then buy the stuff i want.
it isn't 'fewer goods' per se, it's the fact that villains get a DEGRADED GAMING EXPERIENCE compared to heroes.
Is it really that hard to grasp, or do you just not care that one faction gets it in the rear compared to the other?
When it comes to the market heroes are tooling around town in sports cars while villains are taking the bus.
I don't see how one side is getting it in the rear versus the other. If you're *that* interested in getting an exact recipe for your specific toon, then secure them from an alternate source. It's really not that difficult, although it might take more time and work differently than the way you want to do it.
The gameplay experience from villains to heroes isn't exactly the same and I don't think they could make it the same. If you want to claim a degraded experience because things are not vis-a-vis identical, there are more than a few things that you can say that about, such as strike force level gaps.
Sorry that the BM has taken a dive, but maybe GR will have more heroes come over to the dark side and help it out. If not, I guess you can always use GR and go blue.
The game has been balanced around SO's so it's not like not having a huge selection is crippling either. Again, if you bothered to read what I had said instead of just feeling hurt that I'm not pushing for your cause, I think the markets should be merged but the devs have so many other things going on that it just won't happen.
Buses are better for the environment, btw. -
Quote:The only things that can't be bought outside of the market are PvP IOs and Purples. Using merits and tickets is an alternative to items you can't find on the BM.Inventions is a major game system and villain participation is limited by poor game design.
If villain participation in MA was limited by some game mechanic that wasn't present hero side, everyone would agree it was a "substantial harm".
Market participation is no different.
My villains deserve and expect a experience roughly equivalent to my heroes and they aren't getting it.
Earning power is irrelevant when there's nothing to buy.
I still don't see where being PO'd because there are fewer goods becomes substantial harm. -
Quote:I think part of the reason why they are being kept separate is the amount of effort needed to merge the markets. It doesn't sound non-trivial to do it.The only reason a player that understands the mechanics wants them separate is to exploit the low population on red side. It's very easy to corner a certain good because there is such a small pool of goods available there.
There are several reasons (like RP, "my HERO would NEVER buy stolen goods from a VILLAIN') not to merge the market if you DON'T understand the mechanics.
The flip side then is if you are surmising that it costs 30% more to equip a toon redside than blue, it usually means that whoever is selling the items is making 30% more on the items they sell as well. I know my villain, who I played a lot less of, hit the inf cap way faster than my hero did. There's a lot of other things like drop rate/mob types and not just population that would reflect the higher prices red side.
The other question is, are villains performing worse than heroes on average? That is, are these builds 30% worse because the market isn't balanced?
Personally I think the markets should be merged but if you can't prove substantial harm (not benefit) to villains I don't think the devs will see it as a problem. -

Looks like evening PUG raids are getting some decent traction.

It worked out quite well, only needed to abort the wave the first time, but managed to get 5 out of 6 yellows. After that it was smooth sailing. Like a small sailboat in a big ocean.

Watch the seeds with the healing nictus, and GL!

18 PUG folk, finished with 27 unhidden in zone.

Quote:Are you running booting the kernel in 64-bit mode? Parallels 5 will freeze the system if you are running CoX and 64-bit kernel in 10.6. 32-bit kernels work OK with PD5 and CoX.I'd like to see the panic log for this if you can find it - I haven't been able to duplicate that issue.
Also, WoW has a much different and more simplistic method of rendering characters and scenes than CoH does. CoH makes use of multiple layers of textures, which uses up a lot more memory and requires more precise timing. -
Wouldn't surprise me. Used to be in i3-i4 there were 2 raids per evening on average and sometimes a 3rd midnight raid as well. Occasionally someone would run a mid day raid because people were feeling left out so Justice was raiding 1-4 times a day.
-
Quote:Just to be clear for everyone else, the raid I was referring to is actually a different one from the OP's. I just liked the title since it is a relative reference vs absolute. They where full to start with but after retreats due to multiple dc's including hami aggro and a few mito aggro tanks people started to leave. The DC's continued but they still wanted to try to do it. There is nothing wrong with trying and eventually it was just called as hopeless. I saw no leechers that night i think it failed for a few reasons that each one alone wouldn't have been a problem but together was just too much.
To compare a freedom raid to a Justice raid in my opinion is unfair. They have completed maybe 20 (a guesstimate) over Justice's thousands (also i am referring to the freedom group LSK was referring too not necessarily the whole server). It's like comparing cheese and chalk when talking about success and experience.
Someone had made a comment about getting a hami raid together and I thought that Justice has the chops to do a last minute throwdown pug style public raid. Even though Justice was quite low on the population list (was about 6th spot on server loads where it is normally 3rd), I thought enough people were lazing about that we could put them to good use.
It took about 35 minutes for enough people to finish what they were doing and get to the hive but I'd guess that we started on GMs with about 25 people and it went quite smoothly from there.
Wasn't looking to compare servers but Justice has a very deep population of skilled players, enough to pug a hami given zero notice. Private raiding is possible too but given the open nature of Justice, it's hard to exclude joiners who want to hop in and contribute. -
The problem with red side is that the market isn't as deep as blue side, so if you are looking for something very specific usually the price will be stratospheric if it is on the market at all.
-
Well done! Kudos to you and Plas for putting it together.
-
Quote:Wait! You're saying we're old?!!?The fact that there are hundreds of players on Justice who have literally been to hundreds of raids under the various Hami incarnations certainly helps.
It also helps that we have had so many people willing to lead raids...this means there are always new experienced people there, and new people are constantly welcomed in rather smoothly.
Also, I think we can all agree...Champions = lawlz -
-
Thanks for everyone who showed up at the last minute hami raid last night/this morning. Was nice and smooth although it took hami forever to show up.
-
Theoretically all are available. There was an exploit that allowed cross faction transfers for a while and I know a couple of hydraOs made it over redside.
-
Interesting idea. Should allow crafted enhancements to be changed for 1M per level and recipes at 700k per level. This would slightly encourage changing at a recipe level and stimulate the lower level salvage market as well.
If you can change the level of a HamiO I could see everyone swapping their 50s to 53s overnight, and TitanOs being level bumped just for the novelty.
You'd also have to monitor limits so IOs cannot exist outside of their proper range...eg. 10-30, 20-50 etc.
